Posted by Robin on 26 January 2010 37 Comments

Victoria's Secret will launch a new Life is Pink trio of perfumes next month:

Life is Pink Wish Pink (above left) ~ "A romantic blend of peony and vanilla, Wish Pink is the ultimate girly girl. Addicted to love and lipstick. Always the center of attention. Collects pretty things. Finds excuses to dress in the frilliest frocks. Wears diamonds and pearls. Nails painted pink. Adores a scent that's soft and romantic. Young hearts love free."

Life is Pink Live Pink (above center) ~ "A bright blend of passion fruit and raspberry nectar, Live Pink is uniquely creative. Independent thinker. Inspired by art and photography. Shops for vintage clothes. Listens to obscure bands. Takes risks. Craves culture. Passionate about changing the world. Likes a fragrance that's bright and bold. Everything's coming up daisies."

Life is Pink Hope Pink (above right) ~ "A fresh blend of strawberry and jasmine petals, Hope Pink is a natural beauty. Comfiest in a pair of worn jeans and a faded t-shirt. Lives in flip flops but prefers bare feet. Treasure hunts at the local flea markets. Writes poetry. Picks wild flowers. Always outdoors. Loves a fragrance that's clean and fresh. Love in, peace out."

Life is Pink Wish Pink, Live Pink & Hope Pink will be available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum ($32) or 125 ml Sheer Fragrance Mist ($15). (via victoriassecret)

Am I bad person if I say that even though those scents sound utterly dreadful and I would think that we as a culture ought to be completely pinked out by now, the bottles are enchanting?

The yellow one cracks me up. Can’t make up my mind about the other 2. Would be fun to have all 3 though!

I think it just wouldn’t be the same if you didn’t have all three bottles on your dresser.

I suppose I like them because I have a thing for upside-down bottles. OhLaLa had a bottle that was meant to look like a (very fancy, very baroque) glass of champagne, and that architectural YSL Homme bottle was terrific fun. Sculpture by Nikos (the men’s version) and Rochas Homme have the same sort of thing. I just think they’re neat.

Oh dear, Pyramus, I’m starting to worry about you, because all I could wonder when I saw these is how I could erase the imagery from my brain. I’m not opposed to “cutesy,” but…

No, you’re not a bad person though! 😉

To me, they read as “cheap and cheerful” rather than “overblown and tacky”. The target audience really does seem to be a gaggle of eight-year-olds in crop tops, but I still like them: they’re like candy, or party favours. They’re like second-generation iMacs with perfume inside.

I’m sure the perfume inside is pretty appalling, though.

Um….cute …..but maybe for the younger crowd….and by younger I mean the 7-12 group?? And just as an aside: I rather doubt the ‘diamonds and pearls’ set is going to rush out to the Mall for these…maybe the ‘feather boa ‘set?

I got a red one for Christmas – I’m not sure but that maybe my cousin meant to send it to one of her grandkids.

Anyone ever do any of those cognitive tests where you read the name of a color printed in a different color, just to cross your brain’s wires? Like the word ‘red’ printed in big blue font? I looked at this and thought, “hope pink? hope blue? Live yellow pink? The bottles are cute, sort of like fancy lightbulbs. Not really tempted by the notes.

Victoria’s secret is that she’s actually a conceptual art piece by Bruce Nauman.

bergere, I didn’t have that problem, but I think it took me awhile to wrap my head around the headline and not read it as a sentence: “Victoria’s Secret Life is Pink Wish Pink.” And now I’ve spent way too much time thinking about this tacky launch!

I vote for MORE fragrances based on hot air balloons! And light bulbs! More balloons and light bulbs please!

Did this remind anyone else of the old PBS WonderWorks logo?

I have a question: where is the juice? on the top or on the bottom of the bottle?

It’s in the coloured glass part, the top. The bottom is a clear acrylic cap that acts as a base. (You can see the sprayer mechanism through the clear acrylic.) The bottle are therefore displayed upside down.

Given how top-heavy and wobbly these sound, I’m just thinking about how much fun my cat would have if she managed to get on my dresser and knock them on their side since cabinet space is reserved for the more pricy frags. I’ll confess the Live Pink sounds yummy as a light summer splash, though. I love raspberry and passionfruit.

My first thought upon seeing these bottles is that they look like something you’d plug in an electrical outlet – like a night light or one of those air freshener things. Reading the notes, I think b) is correct.
