Posted by Robin on 23 January 2010 19 Comments

Smell Bent Leisure Cruise

Indie line Smell Bent has launched Leisure Cruise, a collection of new limited edition fragrances:

From the sunny French Riviera to luscious Thailand, the S.S. Smell Bent is making stops at fragrant ports of call. We're bringing the world to you! All you have to do is sit back, relax and let your nose do the rest.

The fragrances include:

St. Tropez Dispenser ~ "a day at the beach without all that pesky sand. jasmine absolute, fresh coconut, aloe vera, and a light breeze over a vintage musk".

Thai'd Down ~ "sparkling kumquat, fresh mushroom, and soothing buddha wood spiced with crushed pink pepper, clove and rum. deliciously exotic."

Brussels Sprouted ~ "sprouted greens, himalayan cedar, and deep green musk growing in fresh, wet earth. inspired by the ancient Charcoal forest."

Monaco-Dependant ~ "budding orange blossom, bright greens, sweet orange oil, and luscious opoponax. light and utterly sophisticated."

Bollywood or Bust ~ "a playful twist on a traditional recipe. an intoxicating blend of red rose absolute, robust sandalwood and rich, savory spices."

The Smell Bent Leisure Cruise fragrances are $20 for 7.5 ml Perfume Oil, and can be purchased at the Smell Bent website. (via newsletter from Smell Bent)

At first glance I thought this had something to do with that scented cruise ship mentioned a few days ago! This sounds much better, though… I’m a sucker for odd veggie scents, and Brussels Sprouted sounds fun. (FYI, Sinfonia d’Artichaut was a total disappointment — I detected no artichoke whatsoever!)

      I didn’t love Sinfonia-whatever either. Too bland.

I liked their Fleur de Santal. But not much there there, I agree.

These all sound like fun. However, because this range is perfumed oils, I’d be curious to know about sillage and longevity from those who’ve tested it.

    Thai’d Down is particularly intriguing.

lilydale, too bad you didn’t like Saveur d’Artichaut. I do detect a hint of artichoke in the opening’s greeness…not the choke’s heart, but delicately steamed leaves….mmmmmmmm

Oops, “Saveur d’Artichaut” — not only did I get the name wrong, but I mixed French and Italian! Scusi-moi…

But lucky you for getting some artichokeyness — it’s just sweet and dull on me.

Monaco-Dependant and Bollywood or Bust have my full attention. I wish this company offered samples of the LE scents. Granted they aren’t that expensive, but I’ve had a love/hate history with untested perfume oils. It was love at first sniff with Monyette Paris but not so much with LE BPALs.

DL & Co’s Angels Trumpet has a lovely mushroom note in it. I didn’t think I’d like it in my perfume, but it truly adds an interesting earthy aspect to AT, and I’ve heard the same for Black Orchid.

These sound good. I don’t know if we have smell bent here, must check that out. I love the amusing names and the cute pictures that accompany the info on the line.

It’s a very small indie line, and so doubt they’re anywhere outside the US.

I think Smell Bent are always fun to sample, even if oils aren’t my favorite. I guess I view them as novelties (very well priced!), but heir “Sunshine” might actually be worth owning.

These sound fun and a bit odd (e.g., the Thai mushroom) and the St Tropez one reminds me of two CBIHPs I finally got to try this week, and enjoyed: M Hulot’s Holiday & At the Beach. Those beachy scents can be really fine (like B#9 Fire Island).

I like the beach scents – I have CB At the Beach, too. I am tempted by a couple of these. I forgot to send you a bit of Felix Navidad – next time if I remember. It is quite nice.

Okay, I just ordered Monaco-Dependent – when I got the Felix Navidad they sent me samples of the other holiday limiteds, so we’ll see.

I got two samples – the Thai and the St. Tropez. The Monaco is fab – very strong!! It is more what I was expecting from the Prada Infusion Fleur d’Oranger – green green citrussy blossomy. I think it will be very nice for spring in small doses. Thai’d Down is wack, all mushrooms and streety smells – will take some getting used to and it is definitely for an adventurous perfume-hound. I kinda dig it but don’t know if I want to wear it. St. Tropez is just what it sounds like – a nice suntan-lotion beach scent, a touch soapy but not bad. I only have a tiny dab on, but tiny dabs are all you need in this line.

Now of course I (perversely) want the Thai’d Down.

I’ll send you mine. I wound up having to wash it off.
