I got the email from luckyscent about the Francis Kurkdjian line, and was kind of interested. But I noticed that the women’s is more expensive than the mens, even though they each have the same amount. I know that’s not really that unusual, but it still irritated me.

If the women’s scents use more expensive ingredients or are more concentrated, it doesn’t bother me in the least. But no way of knowing that offhand, and I’ve only tried the women’s things.

Although will add that it appears the price difference is identical for both of the duos, which sort of discourages the notion that it’s about ingredients unless he’s averaging things out somehow.

Yeah, I meant to mention that part and forgot. It doesn’t seem like it’s related to the cost of ingredients, but I of course could be wrong. I think it’s just my irritation with the general notion that women are stupid and will pay more for anything. (I realize the price difference between the two isn’t that much.) But then, I’m feeling crabby today. :(

I honestly don’t know…there could be more expensive florals in the women’s (ylang), but it’s also true that many industries charge women more for the same products. So who knows. Hope your day gets better in any case!

First the dry cleaners, now the perfumers are bilking us too? I hadn’t even noticed the price difference, but that does seem irksome. Nevertheless, my SOTD happens to be Cologne pour le Soir, and it’s fantastic — like LAP’s much-lamented Orchidee Blanche with a big dose of incense.

I got the same email last night and am really excited to try the FK line. I’m even tempted by the laundry soap. It sounds dreamy for washing bed linens. And the By Kilian set looks promising, too.

They’re really beautifully done, but happily for me there wasn’t a single scent I wanted to own. Haven’t tried the men’s things yet though.

The By Kilian set would make a great split…ahem…

When I was at Bergdorfs a few months ago, the sales rep just referred to the fragrances as EdP and EdT (APOM EdP and APOM EdT etc) without referring to them being for women and for men. I think the women’s versions are EdP and men’s are EdT, which could explain the price difference — but I could be wrong on that.

Ooops, I meant to post this as a reply to the above comments.

That’s ok! According to both Aedes & Luckyscent, they are all EdP, but I checked the pictures on Neiman Marcus and yes, you can see on the boxes that the women’s are EdP and the men’s are EdT.

I just checked my samples, and you’re right — EDT for the guys, EDP for the gals.

I jumped on the sample pack because, as you all know, I am a weakling. I think they’ll be fun to try even if I have no idea how to pronounce “Kurkdjian”.

I pretty much figure that, as a rule, men’s everything is cheaper than women’s. I’m glad we all eat the same food.

LOL — so true about the food!
