Histoires de Parfums Tuberose Trilogy ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 29 December 2009 37 Comments

Histoires de Parfums Tubereuse 1 La Capricieuse, Tubereuse 2 La Virginale and Tubereuse 3 L'Animal

Histoires de Parfums has launched the Tuberose Trilogy:

French perfumery Histoires de Parfums is adding a tale dedicated to the legendary tuberose to their library of scent. Offering three interpretations of this unique and mysterious plant that blooms once per year at night, the Tuberose Trilogy evokes moods and emotions from ultra femme to vixen, giving you the option to choose the tuberose tome that best represents you.

First discovered in Mexico thousands of years ago, the tuberose is a flower of many faces, and its powerful fragrance is considered an aphrodisiac. It presents a noble challenge for any perfumer to bottle, yet has inspired many legendary fragrances through the ages. The latest addition to the Histoires de Parfums scent library, which includes 12 existing fragrances, the Tuberose Trilogy captures the sweet and heady perfume of the tuberose and combines it with different middle and base notes to create three distinct tuberose fragrances.

Tubereuse 1 La Capricieuse is a powdery gourmand floral with notes of saffron, bergamot, mandarin, tuberose, iris, ylang ylang, cacao, suede and white musk.

Tubereuse 2 La Virginale is a floriental with notes of mandarin, cherry, tuberose, iris, tiare, frangipani, blond woods, patchouli, vanilla and white musk.

Tubereuse 3 L'Animale is a floral leather with notes of kumquat, bergamot, neroli, plum, herbs, dry grasses, hay, jasmine, tuberose, blond tobacco, immortelle, woods and labdanum.

Histoires de Parfums Tubereuse 1 La Capricieuse, Tubereuse 2 La Virginale and Tubereuse 3 L'Animale are $185 each for 120 ml Eau de Parfum, and can be found now at Miomia. (via shopmiomia)

Since I love my tuberoses so much I will make sure to try each of these!!!
(However I should say the list of notes doesn’t appeal to me *that* much… they all sound fruity and white musky… And HDP hasn’t knocked me head over heels – yet. But I love the concept of fragrances as books, and at least the press release doesn’t sound ridiculous!)
And above all, three tuberoses? Wait for meeeeeeee!

Fruit & white musk don’t usually excite me either…hoping these are less clean & sweet than they sound!

I’d like to make a new perfume rule – all scents released in a series must be offered in a cute little coffret to make it easier to try the whole series.

That’s the sort of rule that the IFRA should be making instead of mucking about ruining classic perfumes.

LOL…so true! And 120 ml as the standard size is too big anyway, especially now.

HDP has a wonderful sample coffret of their historic “twelve tomes” line. All twelve scents in 1.5ml vials. Wonder if they’re offering a similar sample kit of the tuberose scents…

Love HDP, BTW, but can’t see shelling out $185 for a 4ml bottle (not expensive per se, but why not offer smaller bottle options?). So glad they just released that three-scent travel kit. I may have to get one. Wish they offered all scents in it, though!

Oooooh! They do offer all scents in the travel kit – go to beautycafe.com.

Thanks! Hopefully the tuberose scents will be available that way eventually, but seriously don’t know why they don’t do at least a 50 ml bottle.

    Floral leather tuberose? Hey now…
Although in the immortal words of Larry King, “Kumquats, now there’s a weird fruit.”

Ack! A trio! That always tends to throw me into overload/shutdown mode… though the concept of sampling three different treatments of a note actually is appealing (à la TPC sampler sets).

L’Animale sounds like the most intriguing of the bunch to me.

I know – half the time, I can’t even make it all the way through the descriptions before I lose interest. This one only caught my eye because of the tuberose.

If all 3 are really excellent, I’ll forgive it…we’ll have to hope.

Oooh!! *bounce* I adore tuberose, hence always keeping some Fracas extrait on hand at all times, and have loved everything I’ve tried from HDP enough to own three bottles so far.

Any idea how one would go about sampling these three? Does Miomia have them or could I get them from the HDP site? I don’t know if I need 120 ml, but a split of them would be niiice. 😀

Miomia sells samples, as does Beautycafe although I don’t know if BC has these yet.

Ooh, excitement! One of the few bottles I’ve actually replaced over the last year is HdP’s Ambre 114, because I’d used up the whole 125ml of my first bottle. I like this line; wish it were more widely available.

They’re hard to find here too. I do think the huge bottles can’t help sales.

No. 3 for me, please. I’m not philosophically opposed to white musk, but I don’t like it very often in practice. 🙂 Like those bottles, too. Do you love any of the previous Histoires, R? I quite like Sade and Colette.

I like Colette — would probably buy it if I didn’t have to take on 120 ml — and the Noir Patchouli.

Colette is a gorgeous and springlike floral. I got a bottle and am so glad I did. It’s so pretty and green. I also like George Sand, though the fragrance is the furthest thing from what I imagine she’d wear… I’m really curious to try DeSade and Mata Hari.

I love me some tuberose, but none of these are really calling my name. L’Animale (#3) comes closest, but honestly, I’m not sure anything would be better than Carnal Flower. (I need a bigger decant to make sure!! 😉 ) Fracas is astounding, but it can wear me, and it’s a little extravagant for my lifestyle.

Mals, you’re really making me want to try Carnal Flower. 🙂 Of course given my love of tuberose, it’s practically criminal that I haven’t yet. 😉

I just tried all three of these at Takashimaya and found all three to be fascinating. Clean and sweet does not describe any of them, although Tubereuse 2 La Virginale was rather feminine and very pretty.

Tubereuse 1 La Capricieuse has such an interesting interplay between the iris and tuberose. Although it is described as a powdery gourmand floral, I would not call it a gourmand at all. Too elegant and not very sweet. I bought it immediately.

I really wanted to buy Tubereuse 3 L’Animale, but it was sold out. Leathery animalic tuberose. Nuff said. Yum.

What was that? *cocks head* Why, it’s the sound of my wallet frantically trying to creep away unnoticed from the newly born HDP lemmings, of course, though I know it’s all going to end like an episode of Wild Kingdom.

My wallet was already snared. And will probably be lassoed again for Tubereuse 3, given that I am completely taken with the dear SA at Takashimaya who roped it this time around. I will be splitting some of this when I get home from NY.

I got to sniff Nr 1 and 3 from the trilogy yesterday and I am impressed. Nr 3 is leathery having a unique blend of tuberose. The Nr 1 is a tuberose with a strange – sweet powdery edge, it could be the iris & the mandarine I have never smelled this combination anyhow…. It’s worth trying!! And the samples are not at all expensive 12 for 5 euro + post expenses.. But they are out of stock now, i have just tried to order.. 🙁
