Jean Patou Joy in Baccarat

Posted by Robin on 13 October 2009 28 Comments

Jean Patou Joy in Baccarat

In case you've got a few extra dollars set aside:

An exclusive luxury fragrance for exceptional women—only 50 limited-edition inscribed Baccarat Pure Parfum bottles are created each year for Jean Patou Joy.

During two short weeks in summer, several kilos of blossoms are harvested from the Jean Patou flower fields in Grasse to achieve the 10,600 flowers required for just one bottle of Joy perfume. Jean Patou was the first designer to use his initials as a logo, presaging the monogrammed designer labels of today.

A floral bouquet of Bulgarian rose, Ylang-Ylang, Tuberose and Grasse Jasmine, the scent is a timeless masterpiece in simplicity.

In 30 ml, at Neiman Marcus, $900.

Hummmm, that means 900-250= 650 for the baccarat bottle and packaging…
That is a bit too much for a nice bottle.
    650 bits too much, actually!
Well, who cares, i wouldn’t shell out the 250 to begin with: would you beleive I never properly tested Joy?
    Not even on strip!
Shame on me: I smelled the cap and thought: flowers…

Luckily for me, I like the “regular” Joy bottle considerably more than this one.

*jaw drops* Earlier this year I picked up something very much like that on *B**…for $20. (I don’t know how old it was; all of the packaging was included although some things were coming unglued.)

This is so timely. I spilled my beloved bottle of parfum last night. :( Now everything smells like Joy.

Eww… but then your house would stink! But at least you would still have your bottle of Joy. But your house would stink.

I tried using one of my mistakes (Fresh Lemon Sugar) as a room spray – then my bathroom just smelled like lemon bug spray. *shudders*

You could even get a few Amouages or Ormande Jaynes for that price, and it’d likely be money better spent. Of course I don’t know since I have yet to smell Joy, so I have no idea what I’m missing. But I’d happily take a parfum concentration in the usual bottle if it’ll save me $650.

I managed to get a bottle of Fracas parfum in the 1.0 ounce size for $60 on Evilbay two or three years ago and now that it’s nearly gone, I’m having to talk myself into buying another for more than twice the price. lol Maybe I’ll just give the EDP a shot this time…

Of course there’s always the Laura Mercier parfum that’s also peaked my interest and has got me really wanting to spring for a sample… Decisions, decisions. At least this bottle isn’t one of them.

Joy in Parfum is gorgeous, as is Fracas. I like Fracas EdP too though!

I think Joy is the only classic perfume I have worn as parfum. I can hardly stand the EDT, but the EDP is fine. The parfum, though. whew. Something I will have again someday.

I have to say, if I had the money, this would come home with me, no matter how impractical.

Sigh. But the bottle is so pretty, worth having a look at on the NM site using the zoom function. Wouldn’t we all love to own something like that if we could?

Thanks for the link Robin. I’ve never been to the NM site. It’s fun to have a browse in the ‘Fragrance of the Month’ and the collectibles section. And again, if some prince is going to arrange for me to receive an ‘iconic fragrance’ every two months, I’ll not say no.

But what a lot of weird stuff Lauder brings out as collectibles! Pleasures delivered to you in an ‘intricately carved’ horse and carriage? I think I’d be telling my prince thanks but no thanks.

Yes, it’s fun to browse at NM! I don’t know why, but I love the EL solid compacts…they just crack me up. But I don’t think I’d spend money on one.

$900 is around the ballpark of limited edition 30 mL parfum in crystal bottle from a department store (think saw Nina Ricci L’Air du Temps limited edition parfums with similar price tags as well). Obviously the Patou & Baccarat combo isn’t new but it’s good to know anyway–thankfully my mom switched from Joy to Chanel No. 5 many, many years ago (never settled for anything less than parfum, btw).

I bought my mom some Joy perfume last year…at a discounter, at a fraction of this price. Dont’ think she would care about the bottle, but you never know.

Perhaps she is the type of woman who concerns herself with what’s in the bottle and not out. My kind of girl!!
