sb-blimeysb-hippie

Smell Bent is a new LA-based indie niche line, debuting this month with 10 fragrances:

Blimey, Limey (above left) ~ "fresh lime juice taken with a shaker of sugar, made to walk the plank and then splashed into a salty musk".

Commando ~ "a motley crew of animal musks rounded out with a base of tonka bean absolute".

Debonair ~ "neroli, sweet orange, a bit of oakmoss and a hint of vanille".

Horny Little Devil ~ "golden amber, black pepper, filthy musk and a touch of cinnamon".

Hungry Hungry Hippies! (above right) ~ "freshly baked pot brownies dusted with cassia over an earthy dose of finely aged patchouli".

Incensed ~ "omani frankincense and kenyan myrrh smoldering atop a pile of vanilla soaked woods".

Lemon Cowboy ~ "he’s a creamy, dreamy lemon wearing a ten-gallon hat and pair of musky leather boots".

Little Miss Panda ~ "pikake flower, fresh soil, a bit of pink pepper and a twist of key lime".

Mama Cassis ~ "juicy black currents muddled with refreshing peppermint and a delicate vanilla musk".

Sunshine ~ "sun warmed blood oranges over rich sandalwood, vanilla-drenched resins and a golden musk base".

The Smell Bent fragrances are available in 7.5 ml Perfume Oil for $20 each and can be purchased at the Smell Bent website. Samples are $3.75 each or 5 for $15. (via press release)

This website is adorable, and I love the refreshingly lighthearted fragrance names and descriptions. There is WAY too much stuff out there that takes itself too seriously, IMO. I’ve decided that I need to try Blimey Limey, Little Miss Panda, and Sunshine. The lemon leather and incense sound intriguing, too. Fun!

These names and descriptions reminded me of Carnival Wax, just a great deal less expensive. 🙂 Some of them do look interesting, though, and I’d just love to say “Blimey!” when someone asked me what I was wearing. Maybe I’ve watched ‘My Fair Lady’ one too many times. 🙂

Yes, a much better price! Less goth. Perhaps the goth costs extra 🙂

The last 2 sound good to me, but again…oil. Just doesn’t often (if ever) really work for me.

Somebody is having fun! Good for them. Don’t know where the stores…or me, for that matter…will find space, but the copy sure does make me want to whiff and investigate. Always happy to cheer a good product on. 😉

There are so many lines now, it’s hard to keep them all straight! But still little enough fun, so hey, one more…

Nowadays, commando normally refers to naked underneath. “Going Commando” means not wearing any underwear, especially if you are male. Perhaps that is exactly what they want you to think – the fragrance is naked under the musk. Just a thought. Denise

The website is too cute! I’m interested in Blimey Limey, Horny Little Devil and Sunshine and will definitely be ordering a sample pack.

Me, too – I’m hoping that they’ll have a reasonably priced sample pack of all of their scents. I’d hate to actually pay $3.75 each for them.

Apparently, reading comprehension is not my friend today – I see that they have a 5 for $15 deal. Why $3 a sample is so much better than $3.75, I’m not sure. Hopefully that includes shipping.

I’m not into oils, but this is really cute. I’m a little slow on the take–it took me a minute to release smell bent was a play on words for the saying “hell bent.”

Now, why is it that ELd’O’s brand of humor just ticks me off, while I find this sort of cute? As in, it made me laugh instead of making me indignant?

Incensed sounded good to me, but I’m stillllllll working my way through the DSH website.

Like Ms Kitty V I’m not into oils at all. I don’t know why….they always smell too ‘oily’ on me, if you know what I mean. Such a shame because I do like the sound of Debonair and Mama Cassis 🙂

There are a few I wear, but in general I just find they stay to close to the skin. I want a little projection.

I’m an oils girl so this is right up my alley. I love that they have so much dirt and musk and animal. I guess I’ve been wearing perfume oils since my teenage hippie days and they have never bothered me – they last a long time, usually, and have less chemical undertones than some eaus.
    Sample pack, coming right up!!

First thought: A new niche line?

    Second thought: 10?!

But then I read the article. Cute! I may need to try these. But I’m contemplating a lot of stuff right now and I’m gearing up for a FB buy, so we’ll see.

On the strength of the note descriptions, sense of humor, and wanting to support a fellow Basenoter, I ordered a sample pack (Sunshine, Little Miss Panda, Incensed, Horny Little Devil, and Commando). There is indeed free shipping right now.

I find there’s a place in my fragrance wardrobe for oils. I don’t often get the projection I’d like from oils, but on the other hand, it’s nice to give my dry-ish skin a break from the alcohol.

I’ll try to report back on how they work on me.

LOL! The names are awesome, and the notes don’t sound horrible. My first fragrance purchase was handmade perfume oils sold by a middle eastern couple. I’d completely forgotten about them until I read this article.

I’ve found that most oils have great lasting power, but stay very close to the skin. I may have to try these as a discreet office scent that isn’t boring. 🙂

Thanks for posting about this line! I was charmed (plus, a Basenoter, how cool!), so I bought a sample pack. My first foray into oils, but for $15 and free shipping, can’t really go wrong (or certainly not any more wrong than this night has already gone…water heater woes, argh) 🙂

Oils are not my favorite vehicle for scent, but I thought this was a fun site and I do find myself wanting to support small lines, particularly if they offer quality at affordable (and these days, that’s apparently anything under $5/ml) prices.

I’m not a fan of oils either. And I havn’d had any luck with any of homegrown scent houses that have popped up recently. That being said, Smell Bent is a winner. I have tried 6 of them and havn’t been disappointed! Very complex for oils and very professional in execution. Commando, 2010, and Pere Noel Coward are my favorites so far.
