Hard to tell from the pic, but the bottles almost look more vintagey to me. Nice touch, if that’s correct.

They’re similar to the Private Blend bottles, but with clear glass & a different cap.

I don’t know if it counts as irony, but about ten minutes before reading this I happened to put on some Tom Ford Black Orchid, so obviously today, I’m in the mood for something complex, dense, dark and quite heavy indeed.

I’ll gladly dish out $200 for a 6.7 of a Chanel (Eau de Cologne, Cuir de Russie, etc.) but really….nearly the same amount of my hard earned cash for a 1.7 ounce? As lovely as some of these musks sound, I’ll have to pass. Surely I’m not the only person who thinks that pricing is wayyyy out of line for what it is.

Well, the Musk Pure sounded very nice to me right up until I got to the price, then the glow was completely gone! But I wasn’t surprised, it’s not like Tom Ford is known for his reasonable pricing schedule….I’d sniff it if I came across it….but at those prices they’re the last thing I need! Nope, there’s enough light musks available at much better price points.

speaking from the comfort of my huge AIRFORCE nightshirt, sorry if that’s TMI, I’m having a lazy day too….so don’t bother checking anything you don’t have too….Tom Ford is always disgustingly pricey. That just means he’ll always be a decant to me!

“My, sir! What a large 50 ml you have there!”
“The better to overcharge you with, my dear.”

These sound good but the notes definitely don’t sound light to me. I guess we’ll have to see. Though, honestly, at that price, they might as well not exist.

I have liked anything I’ve tried by TF so far – and these sound good. They don’t sound like they’d be THAT light – maybe compared to Black Orchid. But, alas, the dang prices for the Private Collection… *sigh*. I’ll have to pass, even though those bottles would look SO good in my bed & bath.

Give me something more complex any day. And really, do we need musk at $180, when many people seem very satisfied with their inexpensive Jovan Musks?

Agree with all of the above. Also, shouldn’t he have released these in time for summer if they are so light and fresh? Alas, I’ll probably like them (I always find ambrette seed an interesting note), but not as much as the PBs.

I think he has sized up the situation and gotten the wrong size. The NYT article talks about how people are not buying perfume because they can hardly smell it or distinguish it from shower gel or laundry detergent. And this is his response? Pass me the Vero Kern Onda please…

You know, if he hadn’t made the “simple and light” comment, I would have totally gone for it. You can do musk and still have it be rich and complex. The actual notes sound pretty good. Here’s what I’m hoping for: Maybe this is Tom “Doesn’t Do Subtle” Ford’s idea of “simple and light,” which will be about as simple and light as a jackhammer. Here’s hoping.

Wow, although I’m a musk addict, spending $180 for a 50 ml bottle feels like making a huge mistake nowadays. For a “simple, fresh, light and a little less heavy” musk, I’d still go back to my Kiehl’s Musk. On a second thought, does anybody still want a clean, expensive musk when one could get a dirty, complicated musk like MKK on a similar price??

Well, so much to say about Tom Ford line actually; how come they release so many frags at once, while they still have a dozen more to smell and appreciate? That, really confuses me. :-(

I doubt these fragrances will be as “Fresh” and “Light” as a Bvlgari Eau The Au Blanc or something as such… but i am sure they will be less Opium Den Rich and Heady as some (MOST) of the other Private Blend fragrances… For God’s Sake… It IS TOM FORD! he simply can’t make a Fragrance that isn’t in some way DRIPPING with Lascivious Swagger and Unctuous Sexiness… Just look at the Campaign…. Does that Come off as “FRESH AND LIGHT” to ANYONE???

well, in the spirit of a true contrarian, I have to say that Tom has his finger on, at least, my pulse. I have enough perfumes and fragrances of depth and am definitely in the mood for something light to contrast with the heavy, cloying air of what promises to be a humid summer here in Elgin. And besides, he’s talking Musk, for heaven’s sake. How wonderful and politically incorrect an ingredient to feature!

These sound interesting but I’ve got a 100ml bottle of white musk for men from The Body Shop that cost me $60 (Australian) that I think pretty much satisfies my need for a light and fresh musk that I don’t need a bank loan to purchase.
But who knows? You guys have taught me to give everything a go regardless so if I ever come across them…

In total agreement with Miss Kitty V above who says that Tom Ford’s idea of light is probably about as light as a jackhammer. I hate the prices of the smaller bottles of the Private Blends and I’m not motivated enough to arrange splits of the larger ones. But I did break down and buy a bottle of Champaca Absolute and a decant of Amber Absolute. Some of the others are interesting but not fb-worthy for me. I would like to give these a try though. Urban Musk looks particularly interesting. I do believe that a very well-composed musk is different from a drugstore musk, although the differences are subtle. And they often wear so close to the skin that you have to walk around with nose glued to arm to really get it.

I was just sent some samples of these. I really like them…but Light….I dunno about that. I wasn’t sent White Suede, but of the others I like Urban Musk, Jasmine Musk, and Pure Musk…in that order. I found the Pure Musk “soapy” smelling. I might be biased…being the Private Blend head that I am, but I think these are all worth sniffing.
