Posted by Robin on 23 April 2009 25 Comments

Roger & Gallet Bois d'Orange cologneRoger & Gallet has launched Bois d'Orange, a new unisex fragrance:

With Bois d'orange fresh fragrant water, rediscover the magic of an olfactory journey to the heart of an Andalusian garden under the shade of the orange trees. Let yourself be swept away by the vibrant, sunny freshness of the leaves and fruit, the sweetness of the flower and the soft, woody fragrance of the orange tree. Bois d'orange fresh fragrant water can be worn in the sun.

The notes feature mandarin, bitter orange, orange blossom, verveine, basil, amber, palissander wood and cedar.

Roger & Gallet Bois d'Orange is available in 100 and 200 ml Eau Fraîche Parfumée and in matching body products. (quote via cosmetik-paris, additional information via aufeminin, masculin)

Uh oh. There’s a Bois d’ORAGE also, isn’t there? Is that the Malle aka French Lover (just working off memory, too lazy to Google)?

That being said, I’m always up for sniffing yet another oraNge, even though there are soooooooo many. I’ve never tried anything by RG.

Yes, but since the Bois d’Orage is probably not sold in any of the stores that sell Bois d’Orage, it probably makes no difference, right? And it isn’t like they’re marketing to the same groups?

I never get to try new stuff from R&G…it’s ironically harder for me to get my hands on than Frederic Malle.

HA! And you’re probably right about everything, just thought it was funny since we were chatting about the orage/orange mixup recently. Heaven forbid someone somewhere buys a gift of Bois d’Orange for someone who really asked for Bois d’Orage.

Yes, or vice versa! I like “Bois d’Orange” better because it means what I think it means 🙂

Oh, imagine how disappointed Frederic Malle is now…

Higher end drugstores/apothecaries, usually — and I don’t have any such thing near me. You can also find it online.

Turns out there is a store fairly near me – one I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT – how could I forget a store called Common Scents??? Yeesh.

Does seem like there’s positively been a rash of d’oranges lately…so much the better (I like orange blossom, rind, oil the whole business) but also bad (my credit card statement is a real shocker)

Ohhh I can’t wait to try the new RG scent. I’ve worn several of their scents and love their body products too. Their french-milled soaps are heaven, very thick creamy lather.

Their sandalwood soap is one of my all-time favorites…

I like that Frank Voelkl thinks a “perfect summer day” involves tequila. 😉

I am quite interested in Gant Summer which emits an atmosphere of woody air. Its notes are so different that I am wondering what the mixture would be.

I’m a fan of R&G, because I love the packaging and the prices are reasonable. Also, the fragrances are so fresh, wearable, and truly unisex. If you are looking for a good selection of true cologne-types, they are great. I have Lotus Bleu and Shiso. This one sounds good, too.

Thumbs up on the Bois d’Orange – excellent unisexiness, nice sillage, perfect blend of fruit, blossom and wood – I get a lot of the orange rind, too, just a bit bitter so it doesn’t smell like Juice or Pez.
