Guerlain Habit Rouge Sport, Ferragamo F by Ferragamo Black ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 16 January 2009 30 Comments

Guerlain Habit Rouge Sport cologne for menComing in March from Guerlain will be Habit Rouge Sport, a flanker to 1965's Habit Rouge fragrance for men.

Habit Rouge Sport is described as a fresher fragrance than the original Habit Rouge. The notes include citron vert, bitter orange, pink pepper, bambooo, jasmine, leather, vanilla and patchouli.

Guerlain Habit Rouge Sport will be available in 100 ml Eau de Toilettte. (via abc-luxe.com, vogue.fr, fr.fashionmag)

Other recent launches from Guerlain: La Petit Robe Noire.

Next month, Salvatore Ferragamo will launch F by Ferragamo Black, a new fragrance for men described as the more intense evening version of 2007's F by Ferragamo Pour Homme.

Like F by Ferragamo Pour Homme, Black was developed by perfumer Olivier Polge. The woody amber fragrance features notes of lavender, black pepper, coriander, labdanum and tonka bean.

F by Ferragamo Black for men will be available in 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette. (via moodiereport)

There's something very sexy about a man in a crisp white shirt and smart black blazer, isn't it?

    Now what about the fragrance…

R, do you know if this is the same fragrance as the Habit Rouge Light/Eau Legere that was out for a while? It was good, but I can't remember if those are the notes – doesn't look like enough citrus. Darn, I hate reformulation.

Erin, (Kevin butting in here): Sport's notes are different from the Legere flanker (which smelled pretty much like original Habit Rouge to me…but with a nice red straw in the bottle).

Oo, more “black” fragrances. This one actually sounds good.

Erin, I think Kevin's right — the notes really do sound different.

I immediately thought of Eau Legere also… is it dc'd?

It was a limited edition, I think.

Habit Rouge Legere (for me a much better fragrance than the original, which was just too heavy) might be discontinued but as usual is still available at a number of online discounters: just Google “habit rouge light OR legere” (no quotation marks) and you'll easily find a bunch of them.

The idea of a Habit Rouge Sport is a very strange one, since the original scent was very sophisticated, just the opposite of sporty: this is probably going to be a pure flanker, nothing in common with its namesake except the name and the bottle design. We ought to be used to this by now, I guess, although I still remember my surprise when, before flankers were commonplace, I discovered that Egoiste Platinum had nothing at all to do with Egoiste.

    Kouros Yellow Edition?

Blue's done to death. White is done a few times. Red, too. Yellow isn't too appealing of a color from a marketing standpoint. Green and grey…

I propose they start with patterns now. Like plaid, argyle, checkered, stripe, wallpaper, etc. It'd make the perfume bottles look at least interesting.

I'm so bitter!!!! I bought a full bottle of Habit Rouge untried) based on the reviews on Makeup Alley (after all they're responsible for matching me up with Montale Aromatic Lime – such bliss!) Unfortunately Habit Rouge (worn by Keith Richards) smelled on me like he looks most of the time. The new HR sounds really different tho and I wish I'd saved my $$$ for that. Will definitely sample this one first!!!!

LOL! And somebody did one w/ patterns. Now I've got to remember who. Might be Michael Kors?

Betting they'll add a “fresh” note.

Yes, you're thinking of the trio of Michael Kors Notes fragrances–Tattersall, Glenplaid, and Houndstooth.

And of course there's the Burberry scents, many of which have either a plaid-printed bottle or an actual fabric sleeve.

I'm surprised the phrase “Listerine Bottle” hasn't been thrown around yet….

The various concentrations of Habit Rouge are effectively flankers already – EdP, EdT and the Cologne. The latter is the best one of the lot, by the way. Given the excellence of the cologne, I'm not sure if the Sport is necessary or not…

    EXCUUUUUUSSEEE ME!
How can you get fresher than Habit Rouge?
Habit Rouge is like a blast of spring air every time you spray it on.
I am going to be a Luddite about this and flip the bird at this new offering because I am slightly insulted that this great great fragrance is considered to be even in need of a flanker.
    Harrumph!

Well, and it isn't even the first flanker to HR! I can see why modern customers might prefer something lighter, but as others above have said, don't see why they can't stick w/ the Eau Legere version & leave “Sport” out of it.

    After a month I got a sample.

It's pretty nice! If you like the peppery heart and bitter drydown of Allure Homme's tonka bean mixed with the orange peel crispness and huge dose of Terre d'Hermes' Iso Super E but more watery, you'd like F Black. If that description sounds convoluted, well I'm sorry ;)

F Black smells rather suave so that black coat, white shirt as is rather apt. I need to snag me a bottle (and a black coat). For once a flanker smells like the original with a few really decent tweaks!

F BLACK – The good news is, woman of all ages have gone out of their way to tell me how great I smell. The bad news is, for me the’s like sending an alcohalic into a bar at happy hour. I am a scent junkie and this is in first place.

F – Black is very, very very good. Woman of all ages have gone out of their way to tell me how great I smell. I’m more of a hobbiest than an expert, but you tell a man with even an ounce of Itailian in him he smells great and that’s like sending an alcoholic into a bar at happy hour. Try it!
