Narciso Rodriguez will launch Essence, a new fragrance for women, this coming March. Rodriguez says Essence is "very sexy but has that crisp, clean, pure quality of sunlight”, and is a daytime scent for the woman who wears Narciso Rodriguez For Her at night.
Essence is a floral powdery musk and was developed by perfumer Alberto Morillas; the notes include iris, rose, benzoin and musk notes.
Narciso Rodriguez Essence will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum and in matching body products. (via wwd, where you can see a picture of the bottle on today's cover)
Update: more on the upcoming Narciso Rodriguez Essence, from the press release:
This spring, world-renowned American fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez reveals his latest signature fragrance called 'essence', an olfactory homage to the duality of a woman's nature - the intense and the ethereal, the simple and the complex. [...]
As the designer's olfactive signature, musc lives at the heart of 'essence' with a renewed perception and a new vitality. Internationally celebrated perfumer Alberto Morillas magically enhanced the modern heart of musc with radiant notes of rose petals, powdery notes of iris and hints of amber resulting in a floral, powdery musc fragrance.
Narciso Rodriguez Essence will launch exclusively at Saks in mid-March. (via prnewswire)

Ooh, a new Narciso Rodriguez! Notes sound ok, wonder if it'll live up to expectations, mine of course 🙂
Um, what did you think of the bottle? Me no likey, esp. the cap because it makes the bottle look as if it's just about to propel itself off the shelf/vanity. Yeah, I know, I'm insane, LOL!
Will be interesting to see what that bottle looks like in person — looks like they had a very strong light on it from the front and then they shot it from an angle — might be much more boring in real life. Caps are NEVER done right!
I can't wait to try this.
Musks work well with my chemistry and I'm totally head over heels over Musc Oil for Her. It's amazing stuff.
Hmm. Does not compute. How can “crisp” also be “powdery”?
I'm one of the few women I know who does not like the original, and musk and I don't get along, so I guess NRE and I won't be getting together. (*Sigh of relief from wallet*)
Haven't thought of that so suppose you are right. We'll have to wait and see the real deal.
Hi Robin
If you want an excellent example of “Crisp & Powdery” try Allesandro Del Acqua's original scent.
A review of the frag was done on perfumebloggers.com Dec 8th edition. It's not easy to find, but I get lots of compliments on it.
I think of some cold iris scents as crisp — like Hiris?
Another that comes to mind is Crown Eau de Russe.
I haven't tried Crown Eau de Russe. Must add to the list.
I can't remember if I've tried Hiris… Hermes right?
Yep, Hermes. The Crown one, unfortunately, is discontinued.
Has anyone smelled N.R. the perfume? (In the pink bottle) It has a lot more flowery chypre notes? But all the body products are the black musk. Which one do you have a reaction to Robin? And how different do they smell? I like the Black edt but might like it more if there were more flowers.
Joy, Becca
I've smelled and worn all three, the Musc, EDT and EDP.
The EDP (pink bottle) has more floral notes and is more romantic.
I love the Musc and EDT is my second favorite, but the floral, is meh.
The SA's all tell me that out of the three, the EDT is the best seller. That is a more “contemporary” scent whatever that means?
Becca, I'm pretty sure my reaction was to the EdT, but I wouldn't swear to it, and I never tried any of the others…
Thank you SFLizbeth. If all the body products are in the black EDT version, I am assuming they blend with the EDP. But that is a guess. Does the EDP smell like the EDT except for the Floral notes. I love the EDT but I would like it more if it were a bit more flowery (I'm a boring woody musk-floral girl). What you consider meh, I might consider yea.
Hi alotofscents,
They could work well, like the lotion with the EDP would soften the woods a little bit. I noticed the EDT and EDP both smelled great layered with the Musc oil too.
I remember at the Nordies fragrance fair, the rep mentioned that the EDP (more floral) has amber & woods, so it's more powdery in the middle and earthy in the drydown. From my memory, it was a very lovely soft and woodsy drydown after 6 hours, not as sweet on me at all.
The EDT has vanilla and musc in the drydown so it's a little sweeter. I wear that layered with the Musc Oil.
Thanks, sounds like I would like it. The EDP won a Fragrance Foundation award and I usually like what they like though not always.
I liked the original, but it disappeared on my skin within seconds ! Was it only I who had this experience ? I so look forward to Essence and hope it stays. OH please do stay……… :))
The original I thought was a good perfume for a lawyer who wants to concentrate- powdery yet sensual but it was so short-lived and my body chemistry obviously was in need of something with a bit of staying power.
I would guess you're anosmic to the musk in the original then — it really isn't that short-lived.
Hello everybody
I was lucky… I won't say how but I saw it in real and smelt it also
The bottle is so much more amazing in real than in the picture and the fragrance is just OAOW…. Can't wait to buy it
I'm already a fan
bye
Nice to hear, thanks!
Ugh! When I think of “Powdery Musk” I think of the baby Harajuku Lover, and I HATED that one!
I’m not a big fan of powdery musk either.
