CB I Hate Perfume M #3 November, Walking in the Air & Gingerbread ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 15 December 2008 43 Comments

New perfumes from CB I Hate Perfume

CB I Hate Perfume has launched two new fragrances, M #3 November & Walking in the Air, and has released this year's holiday limited edition of the Gingerbread fragrance:

M #3 November ~ "For decades November depressed me. As the year died away, I too longed for warm green grass, long summer evenings spent with friends outdoors and the sight of fireflies twinkling in the woods....But i have learned to embrace November and find comfort in the beauty of decay." With notes of pumpkin pie, fallen apples, bonfire, wood smoke, dried grass, fallen leaves, wet branches, damp moss, chanterelle mushrooms and pine forest; available in 2 ml and 15 ml Perfume Absolute or 100 ml Water Perfume.

Walking in the Air ~ "One day, in November 2007 when it was unseasonably warm, I found myself longing for the smell of Snow. Not on me but in the air around me in my studio. I wanted to imagine myself working quietly in the middle of a snow covered pine forest - rather like the ending of the first act of Balanchine's Nutcracker...So I made up a bottle of Snow-scented Home Spray." The notes: new fallen snow. Available in 150 ml Home Spray, 2 ml and 15 ml Perfume Absolute.

Gingerbread ~ The 2008 version uses the same formula as last year. "This warm spicy blend has long been one of my favorite winter scents– so much in fact that I’ve begun to do a special limited edition of“Gingerbread” for the holidays. CB “Gingerbread” isn’t a literal interpretation of exactly how baking gingerbread smells – instead I’ve blended all the flavors and spices that go into this wonderful dessert. I’ve combined Chinese Ginger Root, Indian Nutmeg, Cinnamon Bark from Sri Lanka with a subtle warm smoky vanilla-like base (but not too sweet) made with Tahitian Vanilla Absolute." Available through December only, in 2 ml or 15 ml Perfume Absolute.

I imagine “Walking in the Air” is named after the song of the same name from the children's film, “The Snowman”. For those who haven't seen it, in the story (which has no dialogue except for the song) a little boy builds a snowman, then, that night, after everyone is asleep, he is taken by the snowman on a flying journey over a snow-covered world. The song is quiet and almost melancholy, sung by a boy soprano. I'd love to know what the perfume smells like!

The smell of snow? That appeals so much to me. I hope it is not the usual iris-violet-powdery combination.
I did find the *perfect* high mountain smell – in a couple of body products from a tiny french brand “les fermes de Marie” . Why, o why, don't they make a matching perfume? Well, I must wait and try “walking in the air”.

The all sound too good to be true! I'd love to see what the all smell. “I wanted to imagine myself working quietly in the middle of a snow covered pine forest” – sounds exactly like what I want to do right now!

Thanks — I know the book but not that it was made into a film.

There is also “snow” in CB's Winter 1972…

The only one I've tried so far is the Gingerbread, which is just as described. What I want to be doing right now: lying on the beach 😉

I went to the CB I Hate Perfume store last time I was in NY and I was looking at the single note accords and I was going to buy something really ~*unusual*~… but I ended up buying the incense one. Which is nice but not very unusual.
I want to try all three of these
    I looove gingerbready perfumes

“rather like the ending of the first act of Balanchine's Nutcracker.” Oh, I LOVE that part of the Nutcracker! And I know exactly what he's trying to evoke. Lovely. I'll have to try it.

Lemming, lemming, lemming… 😀 Or, for free, I could just step outside, I guess. Windchills of -40 today, and freshly fallen snow to boot. These all sound wonderful, as usual.

hmmm- we have not had a real snow in this city since 1985- so while I am curious about the smell of snow, I have no olfactory reference…

The November one sounds fab – except for the pumpkin pie – I'm tired of that scent in everything

If I could just get it without the pie. Has anyone smelled it? Is it really pronounced?

I would've commented earlier, but I was too busy ordering.

Come down and sniff the Bond No. 9 Boca Saks exclusive and I will show you all the best beaches.

I think I just found out what I'm buying myself for Christmas – the gingerbread sounds fantastic. I'm currently obsessed with Winter Delice (AA)by Guerlain, yet it's gingerbread accord doesn't have enough oomph to overcome the pine and holly berries on steroids.

How I love CB! I think it's because it's the first line whose site I started exploring when I started this obsession.

I'm excited about Gingerbread and I'll just bet it's just as high quality as Lutens but a much better value (for this bargain addict). Also very curious what his Snow scent might be like. Has Demeter already done Snow?

That's a great short film. I think it either won or was nominated for an Oscar for animated short.

My thoughts exactly…if only it weren't for the pumpkin pie note. I don't like even a little of anything like pie, custard, or cupcakes in perfume (even though I adore eating those things, I don't want to smell like them.)

Also, that Walking in the Air bottle (in the middle) is quite different for CB. I like it, but I also like the unifomity of the usual CB bottles. I'd hate to see them go away.

Never have had the pleasure of sniffing any CB's at all. What's with the water concentration? Is that like a sheer body mist type of thing?

Burst of short lived citrus, followed by a fruity jasmine (not gardenia to my nose at least), with a fruity amber dry down. Kind of dull.

I *believe* the absolutes are going to have more staying power – I have some water perfume samples of Memory of Kindness and Wild Hunt – they don't last half as long as my purchased Fire from Heaven….YMMV. I just love the gallery, the concepts, and the presentation.

*And the Nacho Chip scent was the one that made me laugh out loud in the store!

I wish it snowed here. It NEVER snows here and will be stinking hot soon. Mostly it has been a mild summer so far but it is very early days still. I have found the seasons are shifting and summer continues all the way through autumn. I have never seen snow fall but only have arrived in places where snow has already come down. It must be fantastic. What exactly does it smell like?

I have lived in Sweden all my life and obviously experienced a lot of snow, but I have too say that I have no idea what snow smells like! Winter has a smell to me: pine, wet wool mittens and gingerbread, but snow…?

I like it too. I was going to say that it looks like the other home sprays, but you're right, the label is totally different. I do like the new label though.

It smells like cold! No, really, it doesn't have much of a smell. As w/ rain, most of what you're smelling is all the natural materials (dirt, whatever) that are now wet from the snow.

Yes, the water perfumes are like body mists. I'm sorry but I haven't smelled “Leaves Water” — didn't even know about it, is that in the accords series?

Late reply, but yes, it looks different because it's a home spray & seems to have a new label.

Well, part of the smell is the wet pine, right? And wet ground. And when everything is covered w/ snow, I think the air also smells crisp & clean.

Both M#3 and Gingerbread smelled fantastic…until I saw the price tags! But seriously I would trade my 835+scents(decants/bottles) for more Smokey Tobacco! It makes me awe in joy, and beg for more…The introvert in me of course did not dare to say “hello” to Mr.Brosius, but I sure did with his lovely dog!!! 🙂
