Aveda Ancient Attar & Aveda Men Pure-Formance, American Eagle Aerie ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 29 October 2008 9 Comments

Aveda Ancient AttarAmerican Eagle Aerie perfume

In November, Aveda will launch Ancient Attar Pure-fume (above left), a new all-natural fragrance for women celebrating the brand's "30 years of aromas featuring pure plant and flower essences".

Ancient Attar was developed by in-house perfumer Ko-Ichi Shiozawa, and features "a rich and delicate rosy note infused with the freshness of organic neroli oil". Additional notes include sandalwood oil and rose geranium oil.

Also new from Aveda, Aveda Men Pure-Formance, which launched this month:

A rich, spicy, refreshing aroma comprised of certified organic essential oils of spearmint, vetiver, lavender and citrus. Definitively masculine and multi-dimensional, the Aveda Men signature aroma evokes sensations of northern air and deep, rich forests.

Additional notes include lemon, orange and kunzea.

Aveda Ancient Attar is $70 for 30 ml. Aveda Men Pure-Formance is $65 for 50 ml. (via press release)

American Eagle's Aerie brand has launched an eponymous signature fragrance. Aerie for Women (above right) is "an enveloping fragrance of lush fruits, delicate florals and sensuous musk".

The notes include flowering quince, green apple, watery jasmine, blue freesia, sandalwood and musk.

American Eagle Aerie is available in "fine fragrance spritzer" (size unknown, $15.50) or "fine fragrance" (50 ml, $39.50), concentration unknown. (via ae)

The Aveda Men scent (is it really called Pureformance?!) is really great in my opinion. Very fresh take on vetiver, and the mint is subtle. I like the scent of their new men's haircare products too though. It's based on the grassy fresh vetiver-lemongrass accord.

Haven't tried the Ancient Attar yet but now that I know it exist I will look out for it. Aveda are my next-door neighbours 😉

I have also tried the Pure-formance while in the States this month.

It smells like hand-mixed oils, nothing fancy at all, which is not a bad thing for me.

IMHO it smells too much of hand-made, and a little too potent for my taste. The top and midnotes are very in-your face raw essential oils.

I would wear it but only in special occasions.

    Mixed feelings about this one.

Have not smelled the other 2.

I like Aveda products lotion and men's line and there's a convenient local shop. I'll smell this out of curiosity but I can't imagine ever buying a full bottle.

Yep, Pure-formance! I don't care for Pure-fume either. But whatever.

Did you smell the LE Rose Attar they did a couple years ago?

I didn't manage to — my local Aveda never stocked it — but reportedly it was really nice.

The Aveda scents I've smelled definitely have a natural vibe, and they go for strong — in the hair products as well. I've mostly given up on their hair products because they overwhelm my perfume.

But as I said above, I heard their last rose attar was wonderful.

American Eagle Aerie : OMG… this one (TO ME) smells like dirty socks followed by a hint of Angel 🙁

Am I wrong? it smells so terrible to my nose. I never EVEr hate any perfume but this is a first.

    I don't know if you're wrong — I haven't smelled it! And you haven't made me want to, LOL…
