Trish McEvoy Precious Oud ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 27 October 2008 20 Comments

Trish McEvoy Precious Oud perfumeTrish McEvoy has launched Precious Oud, a new fragrance for women:

Precious Oud, the mysterious, provocative fragrance by Trish McEvoy, is an intoxicating blend of oud essence infused with incense, patchouli, natural sandalwood, rose, musk and amber. Like every piece in Trish McEvoy’s unique fragrance wardrobe, Precious Oud can be layered with any Trish fragrance for an array of spellbinding, customized scents.

Trish McEvoy Precious Oud is available in Eau de Parfum roll-on; size unknown (but the bottle seems to match the new-ish "pocketable" bottles from Trish McEvoy, which are 5 ml each), for $100, and can be found now at Nordstrom or Bloomingdales.

I wear a lot of TM cosmetics, and I generally like her #8 Citrus Petals (now discontinued), and the rest of her frags are ok. It seems to me like she's trying to go from 0 to 60 in three seconds….Her regular frags are resonably priced, but I can't imagine paying $100 for 5 ml of her oud…I'd rather spend comparably on a Montale or Amouage, which I know would be divine…Based on the quality of her regular perfumes, which are good but not outstanding, I'm wondering if she can actually pull this one off. I'll be interested to hear comments from those who smell it.

I agree. I liked “Trish”-it reminded me a bit of Vetiver Tonka (not as stunning and simple)- But then I realized that ml for ml it was actually MORE expensive than VT- the 15ml bottle was 65? 70? dollars versus 50 dollars for the same size of VT. 100 bucks- should have called it Oudrageous…

Ann, do bear in mind that I've no idea if it's really 5 ml — I'm just guessing! I just checked Nordstrom again and they still aren't showing the size. But agree, if I wanted some precious oud, Trish McEvoy is probably not where I'd go.

Whether it's 5 or 15 ml (That roll-on doesn't look too big) 100$ for this EdP is a joke. I just checked Amouage website, and You can get a beautifully boxed set of 10 scents (2ml) each for 60 Euros or about 75 bucks. 10 x 2 ml = 20 ml. I'd rather go with that that Precious Oud.

I know…I double checked with Nordstrom as well before I posted. I thought maybe they'd show a set of two or three, etc. But regardless, they used to sell 15 ml size bottles of their frags, which are great, for about $40 or something like that. I still think $100 for 5 or 15 ml, or whatever it is, is still too much, especially given that TM frags aren't ususally that outstanding. Please keep in mind that I actually really like TM and use a number of the cosmetics. Even one of their reps I speak to (about cosmetics) thinks it's unfortunate about discontinuing customer fav's like Citrus Petals, and adding an expensive oud that isn't likely to attract a lot of business. But TM is an international brand…..

Unless this turns out to be really fabulous, I'd have to agree.

There was a set earlier this year of some other TMS, I think 3 of them, in these roller-ball bottles. Looks like this one is on its own. And agree: even if it's 15 ml, $100 is pricey. We'll have to see if it's fabulous, although don't know that I'll even try it if the tester is a rollerball.

I just checked with a rep – it's 6 ml. She says it starts off “strong” but then dries down to a very lovely scent. I'll have to wait to test it until it pops up at a decanter or next time I'm near a Nordstrom/Bloomindales.

Just for kicks & giggles….a 8ml decant of Amouage Lyric from TPC costs $49.99. Hmm….I think I'll take the Lyric!

The Perfumed Court – they do samples and decants. There are others on the web that may have better prices, but I just use them b/c I am a creature of habit. It's nice to get large decants of some really neat frags that are either too hard to get in normal circumstances or too expensive for a full bottle. They've also saved me from a bunch of un-sniffed purchases that would have been tragic!

The notes are interesting enough and the roll-on is nice and portable too.

Probably good combined with the White Iris.

I'm a crank — I hate roll-ons! Oh well, people must love them because they're sure popular.

I tried it yesterday and loved it for about 5 seconds. I ended up washing it off. And yes, it's $100 for the roll on. They also have limited edition roll ons in the other scents for $20. Go figure.

I am with you on the roll ons. If a perfume only comes in roller ball, I don't need it!

I just received two BN rollons by Trish McEvoy in a swap, one mandarin & ginger lily, the other snowdrop & crystal flowers… they are both such beautiful fragrances! I liked the mandarin & ginger lily because it smells like a TRUE mandarin note-perfume to me. I had such high hopes for Jo Malone's mandarin and basil, and it turned out to be a flar, boring waste of my time.

Trish's mandarin is tangy, sweet, crisp and just done perfectly. I

was looking for a perfect mandarin scent for a while.

The other scent that I have now is Snowdrop & Crystal Flowers and this is absolutely STUNNING. I would never guess that this would turn out to be such a beautiful, fresh, soft and very fragrance. If snowdrops had a scent, this is probably what they would really smell like.

All I'm saying is that I was happy to try Trish's fragrances AND I was very nicely suprised, if her scents for $20 are so amazing, then Precious Oud for a $100 should be absolutely out-of-this-world stunning. But still a hundred bucks is just a little too much…

I did hear the Precious Oud was nice, but no matter — not spending that much on it! Glad you like your 2 new ones :-)
