Kiehls Forest Rain ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 9 September 2008 21 Comments

Kiehls Forest Rain fragranceKiehls has introduced Forest Rain, a new unisex fragrance "evocative of a crisp, fresh forest rainfall":

Our fresh, yet spicy woodsy blend of Muguet, Vetiver, Citrus and Musk was inspired by the extensive essence collection of the original “Kiehl Pharmacy,” where 122 unique fragrant oils from the world over have been offered over the years.

Kiehls Forest Rain is available in 50 ml Eau de Toilette and in matching body products. (via newsletter from Kiehls)

I like Kiehl's fragrances but for some reason, their scents disappear right off my skin. I'd be interested in a sniff just to see what it's like though… My local Nordie's has Kiehl's, I wonder if maybe they'll carry it.

Seriously, Kiehl's Musk disappears right off your skin??? I'm shocked, that's pretty strong stuff. Or do you mean one or more of the oils?

All the oils that I've tried, and the original Musk, lasts about 1-2 hours.

Every other Musk oil that I've tried (BT-Egyptian Musk, Alyssa Ashley Musk, Jovan Musk) wear for 10-12 hours.

Interesting — I find that Musk unbelievably strong! Have only tried a few of the oils though. BT Egyptian Musk is a funny one — I get olfactory fatigue from it amazingly quickly, but if I stop smelling it, I might notice it suddenly hours later.

Hmm, this looks ineresting. I'v been a reedy-green kick lately. I wonder if it will smell more grassy than musky…

This actually looks and sounds interesting, R. I will definitely test it when I see it.

    Is it out yet?

Seems like rainy, foresty scents are hot now. B&BW rainkissed leaves, Hermes Un Jardin Apres La Mousson, L'Artisan's fleur de liane, there was something else too but I can't remember.

I'd be very interested if they'd left out the “rainfall” part — don't want any more fake fresh water this week ;-)

    Hear Hear!! No fake water!

Although I will probably sniff this. I lost interest in Kiehl's (or lost respect, anyway) when they discontinued Rain. I first smelled that when I was on acid and it has been a part of my collection ever since.

I was sorry when Kiehl's discontinued all but a few of their “essences”. I used to adore “New Mown Hay” and “Moss” ( I do wonder if I would still love them, now).

I liked the Mown Hay, and there was another I really liked that might have been called Heather? Or something like.

I always knew it as Rain but wound up as Exquisite Rain. It smells just like peppery roses on the bush (but not like domesticated “rose”, if that makes any sense), with lots of leaves covered with spring mist, damp and sharp. I'll be interested to see if this new rain is anything like it.

I don't want a rain forest, though! Give me asphalt and rain! ASPHALT AND RAIN! I live in Portland, Oregon and I am addicted to the smell of the city when it rains.

I checked out the local Nordies, and they don't have it at their Kiehl's counter. But I'll be downtown SF over the weekend, I'll check Neiman Marcus for a sniff.

my bottle arrived this morning and i have had it on for about an hour. here are my impressions, not very good with notes, but here we go…

it is lovely & this is one i think i will wear often. it's fresh without being too airy- there is a minty-ness there, and a taste of muguet (but a green muguet if that makes any sense) but it starts to settle down to a dark, mossy, & woodsy scent. there are soft hints of the famous Kiehl's Musk, but it is barely detectable. it is quite foresty & woodsy, it could be spring or fall, but its a dark shady forest. after rain. lol

i am not sure if there any shared notes ( maybe just the woods) but i get whiffs of my memory of Christian Dior Fahrenheit, if it were fresher, minty-er and wetter. it does have a water-y accord, without being the aquatic. like a soft sweet rain.

that said.. if you are not a fan of Fahrenheit, i don't think you will like this, but that's just me.

Hey, that doesn't sound bad at all. I'll look for it again next I'm in the mall, thanks!

Forest Rain by Kiehl's is literally disgusting! Once the minty fresh headnotes dispappear, it smells exactly like a men's room urinal cake. Yuk!

Don't these companies do any consumer testing prior to dishing out millions like that?

This is a nauseating scent that will appeal to neither women nor men and is destined for failure.

Sorry for the very late reply — I missed this somehow. Anyway, I still haven't tried it, and as I'm trying to avoid the mall until the Xmas rush is over, it's going to be awhile! Sounds like it's a love it or hate it…
