Essence by Porsche Design ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 18 May 2008 8 Comments

Essence by Porsche Design cologne for menPorsche Design Group, a subsidiary of Porsche AG that focuses on men's accessories, will launch their first fragrance, Essence by Porsche Design, this October in conjunction with Azzaro (whose perfume business is in turn owned by Clarins):

One molecule — Artical, from International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) — was the starting point for The Essence by Porsche Design's fresh aromatic woody juice.

"We wanted an ultrafresh fragrance, but not with a marine freshness," said [Brigitte] Lacaze, who explained Azzaro executives had envisioned an urban, cultured, intelligent, sporty, sensual man in the 25-to-50 age range as the user.

The fragrance was developed by perfumers Anne Flipo and Bruno Jovanovic, and features notes of artical, juniper, blueberry, coriander, black pepper, pine, fir balsam, patchouli and incense.

Essence by Porsche Design will be available in 50 and 80 ml Eau de Toilette and in matching grooming products. (via wwd)

Update: Per Moodie Report,

The juice, created by IFF, is described as fresh, aromatic and woody with "blizzard and tundra" accords which play on the theme of cold and warm at the same time.

There will also be an 80 ml "Luxury Edition featuring an all-aluminium bottle".

    Oh boy! Another marine-aquatic-fresh-sport-young scent… Can't wait.

In a way this reminds me of the local Porsche dealer, who promptly invested in the Porsche-design kettle and coffee maker when they were launched some years ago. Within three weeks they had gone to the local DIY and bought a kettle and coffee maker by some mass-market brand, because although the Porsche designed kit looked terrific, it didn't work very well and wasn't remotely practical.

“Ultrafresh” sounds like something from sanitary towel packaging. (sorry!)

The notes sound quite nice though.

Notes are very different, but I immediately flashed to “Hummer Lite.”

Just like those new cars that now come with an MP3 player or adaptor for your iPod, I can imagine new Porsches will have a little compartment for a bottle of Essence, with some electronic gadgetary that presses the spray every 10, 30 or 60 mins say to release a burst of the fragrance! Or come to think of it, it will be an intelligent car that gauges just when a spray is needed and acts accordingly (beware the driver that eats too much wurst!)
