Ava Luxe Hong Kong Garden, Opus Oils Fetish Collection ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 3 March 2008 11 Comments

Ava Luxe Hong Kong Garden perfumeAva Luxe has launched Hong Kong Garden, a new woody oriental fragrance...

...based around the ethereal Iris flower. The root of the iris known as orris root has a sweet, earthy and somewhat powdery aroma which is very distinctive. The opening notes sing with brilliant fresh verdant hues of cassis, citrus , green grass, and a hint of metallic aldehyde which give it an unusual twist. The top notes give way to heart notes of iris, rose, white violet and musk. The base notes are where the fragrance is most pronounced with deep vetiver, powdery sandalwood, orris, ebony and mosses.

Ava Luxe Hong Kong Garden is available in Parfum extrait or Eau de Parfum. (via Ava Luxe newsletter)

Robin, have you tried the Hong Kong yet? This sounds right up my alley. Can anyone else comment on this one? Bueller?

Hong Kong is a very subtle, rooty, delicate scent, in EDP.

I await my extrait today or tomorrow.

It feels sheer to me, although not simplistic; I might have preferreed a bit more oomph, but that's probably just me.

It will be great in the heat.

S, I have not, sorry! Chayaruchama, thanks for chiming in, it sounds lovely. Any comparison to Prada's Infusion d'Iris?

I think that the Prada certainly pleased Serena, and she's wanted to 'do' an iris scent for awhile.

The resemblance lies only in the sheerness, I feel.

it is certainly worth having, especially at the price point, and quality.

on one hand, i'm really touched that they use such nice notes to depict Hong Kong (i'm from Hong Kong although I am in London now), on the other hand, I am worried about my finances because my wishlist keep growing (and the only solution I could think of is to move them from wishlist to purchaseD list…)
hope the little one is feeling better!

Chaya, is it sweet? Sweet and I do not get along, but the notes themselves, and your description, sound lovely.

    Thanks!

It's not sweet, the way SMN Iris is, or Iris Ganache, or 28 La Pausa; the extrait arrived just awhile ago, and does have more 'oomph'.

    I'd describe it as woody/floral/ethereal…

    Very spiritual.

    Very pretty.

    Very wearable.

He is almost entirely better, thanks! And I know what you mean about the wishlist. I don't even have time to sample everything that interests me, much less the money to buy it.
