Time to get a new boyfriend…

Posted by Robin on 10 January 2008 12 Comments

I can't stand my girlfriend's new perfume. It stinks on her, but she thinks it's cool. She paid $50 for a little bit of it. It turns me off, man. I liked the way she smelled before -- it made me want to get closer. But this stuff is like stinkweed once it gets on her and she warms up.

— From the Miss Lonelyhearts column at the Winnipeg Sun.

First, how funny that there is really a Miss. Lonelyhearts column.

And maybe a new boyfriend is in order, BUT – I'd like to think if my darling husband started wearing something that I found repulsive he'd take my feelings into account. I'd never tell him what he can or can't wear though!

I'd like to think my husband would immediately discard a scent I hated, but that he'd roll his eyes in private over my own “stinkweed” perfumes and keep his mouth shut. I'm pretty sure that is how marriage is supposed to work, isn't it? LOL…

Doublestandards, compromise and flattering little white lies – we had those written into our vows. ;)

Very wise words Rose..! They should be on one of those tiles so we could give these tiles to our offspring..;)

Ah, we got the double standards & flattering white lies, but we forgot to write in the part about compromise, LOL…

That is the hardest part for sure. Oh well the boyfriend could go with his girlfriend to the store and together they could choose a fragrance for both her and him…slime, slime.. but I don't believe in that… Shoot, what was she wearing?!

Indeed, it is time for her to get a new man…

But geez, what was she wearing?

    Hugs!

Yes, he's not exactly overflowing in the tact department, is he? And I, too, am dying to know what the heck it was she was wearing – I am sure I would love it.

I can relate to the poor girl – my otherwise amazing Significant Other dislikes “perfume” – though I can usually get away with body lotion and oils, as well as a light spritz of something relatively tame. Smell is such a powerful emotional component – I hope Miss L told them to sit down and talk this one out.

R, that is my question too! Miss Lonelyhearts should have insisted on disclosure :-)

I did love that she paid $50 for a little bit ;-)

That is really hard. My husband is not enthusiastic about everything I wear, but he is generally extremely tolerant. There are only a few scents that will move him to actually comment negatively (oudh usually works).
