Demeter Pure Soap, M Micallef Note Poudree ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 27 August 2007 9 Comments

Demeter Pure Soap perfumeDemeter has launched a new fragrance, Pure Soap:

Feel “fresh from the shower” clean...anytime... anywhere.

There is nothing quite like the clean smell of freshly showered skin, especially when a pure, unscented soap is used.

Demeter’s Pure Soap is inspired by the scent of skin freshly scrubbed with Ivory Soap... clean skin with just a faint trace remaining of pure soap smell... almost like a memory of the soap, rather than the soap itself.

Demeter Pure Soap is available in 15 ml Cologne Mini-Splash, 30 or 120 ml Cologne Spray, and in matching bath & body products and Room Spray. (via demeterfragrance, with thanks to MagicMarti for the tip!)

Other recent releases from Demeter: the Jelly Belly Collection, Crayon.

Parfums M Micallef has launched Note Poudrée, the second fragrance in the Les Notes collection (see Note Vanillée):

The second Perfume of Parfums M. Micallef in the Line of Les Notes is a beautiful powdery fragrance.

At first there is a fresh and fruity accord of fresh peach, followed by a composition of fine Jasmin and Flowers, Roses from Bulgary. At the end, there is cedarwood an a hint of Patchouli.

The basis is made with warm vanilla notes with an mystic amber note, underlined with musque.

M Micallef Note Poudrée is available in 75 ml Eau de Parfum, and is packaged with a "special music CD". Note Ambrée is due to launch later this year. (via mmicallef)

I assumed Demeter already HAD a 'soap' in the vast buffet of scents that they have. Hmm…sounds very three-years-ago, no?

For a much more complex, just-showered-with-Ivory-soap vibe please go straight to Chemistry by Clinique.

    Agreed – very three-years-ago!

And please, Demeter, rather than waffle on about the “memory of soap” just admit you've taken a stock-standard aldehydic lux type or similar and stuck it into a fine fragrance!! lol

I think it greatly annoys me that anyone developed and marketed a frag that evokes skin freshly scrubbed with Ivory soap. Why not just scrub with Ivory soap and cut out the middleman! Goodness, what's next? Eau de Palmolive? I guess I just have something against Ivory (bad childhood memories, maybe?).

I laughed at this bit of copy, though: “just a faint trace remaining of pure soap smell… almost like a memory of the soap…”. That might make a good CB I Hate Perfume product name: “Memory of Soap: 1978”

You know, these soap & laundry detergent fragrances are really popular now. Look at the whole Clean brand — Lather, Warm Cotton, etc. You could just as easily use scented dryer sheets, but people love them.

Agree – the whole Clean line is wildly popular but way overpriced and it's really difficult to differentiate between the scents – Lather and Shower Fresh? Same diff. I've been trying a bunch of soap-type scents lately so I ordered the PureSoap one off Demeter's website. I'm curious. I am surprised that this is a “new” scent for them.

I have White Soap, one of Christopher Brosius' accords but find it a little Carnation-y and sharp, like finely milled gift soap. I still like it, mainly just to layer it with Demeter's Holy Water (White Soap and Holy Water… get it? Yeah, ok, I'll show myself out). Brosius notes that the “clean” category is a particularly American group of scents. I can see that. I doubt any European perfume house would ever come up with something as plain as … soap. The folks over on the BPAL board use the term “soap” to describe a fragrance that just doesn't work on them, e.g. “Dorian turned to soap on me, ugh.”

I am currently trying Philosophy's Pure Grace: it's a simple fragrance that is supposed to evoke Soap and Water. It's not particularly remarkable and fades like lightening, but for some reason have had people chase me down the street to ask me what I'm wearing. Twice. So the soap thing seems to be a real trend.

Philosophy Pure Grace is a HUGE seller, apparently, so not surprised people were chasing you down the street. I don't mind soapy per se, I mean, there are perfumes that “go soapy” on me that I love (Caleche!), but just soap on its own doesn't interest me. Love the idea of White Soap & Holy Water though!
