Andre Gas Ensoleille Moi, Serge Lutens Chypre Rouge ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 7 June 2006 25 Comments

Andre Gas Ensoleille Moi fragranceFrench jeweller André Gas has launched his first fragrance. Ensoleille Moi (see bottle at right) has notes of tiaré absolute, bergamot, ylang ylang and coconut. (via vogue.fr)

Senteurs d'Ailleurs will have the latest perfume from Serge Lutens, Chypre Rouge, available in their Brussels boutique in mid-July. Wondering what it smells like? Read on:

Eagle nest, precious stones, coat of arms, standards, what are we made of? Eternity, limpidity, freshness, beauty, softness of velvet. A secret continent of which we would be the body, in golden darkness, moss of spices and vermeil. The kiss of a choirboy on the ring of an archbishop.

In other words, your guess is as good as mine. More helpful, perhaps, is a description at AutourdeSerge, the Serge Lutens forum, which describes it as "une senteur de noix de pécan caramélisée sur fond de mousse de chêne", which translates roughly as caramelized pecan over a base of oakmoss. Chypre Rouge is a haute concentration fragrance and will be in the export range. Stay tuned...

Update: see a review of Serge Lutens Chypre Rouge.

Thanks! Super intrigued by Ensoleille Moi, and, naturally, Chpyre Rouge. “Moss of spices” – I'm sold.

Oh, yes the kiss of a choirboy on the ring of an archbishop. I've always wanted to smell like that.

“Caramelized pecan over a base of oakmoss” sounds incredibly appealing to me…as for the “official” portrayal, I think the Team Lutens has outdone itself in the art of extremely obscure descriptions. I thought they were on some mind altering drugs when they wrote the descriptions for Gris Clair and Cedre. but this…Limpidity??

Still, I have a very strong feeling I'm going to love the scent :-)

The 'softness of velvet' really had me. But a sentence with 'choirboy', 'kiss' and 'ring' is somewhat worrying!

Sorry but the Archbishops Ring also grabbed my attention. I thought that kind of thing was illegal…LOL.

It annoys me when fragrance companies put out this drivel to try and sell a scent. Why not just use plain English/French/whatever?

no further comment on the Archbishop's ring – clearly they do things differently in France. Having said that, I found the obscurity of the description and the concept of a soft red chypre most appealing but sadly the words caramelised and pecans dispelled my interest immediately. Ah well – money saved.

Such hooey! An eagle's nest! My lord if I ever smell like an eagle's nest someone take me out back and dunk me until I get the molting feathers, carion flesh and hatched birdlings out of my hair, please!

I wish George Orwell were still alive so I can send him this ad copy. That'll kill him.

Goofy descriptiong, but that, of course, does not leave me not eager to try it. :)

I wonder if someone actually gets paid to write those descriptions for SL? As for the more informative description: “carmelized pecan” isn't what I was hoping for (I had hopes that the “rouge” suggested either hot spices or roses), but the “base of oakmoss” still holds my interest (oakmoss will do that). Not to speak of the eagle's nest. . .

I wish I knew if that was the real ad copy or a translation…sounds suspiciously like a translation.

I wouldn't mind if only they had released a list of notes as well…it is annoying to still have no clue whatsoever what sort of fragrance it will be.

Same here, but I'm not giving up so easily — that is just one person's opinion, after all!

And the same, I would guess, is true for everyone else. They can call it sewer gas and we'll all still try it if it is from Serge, LOL…

I am still laughing my *#@ off about Third Shift's comment: “An eagle's nest! My lord if I ever smell like an eagle's nest someone take me out back and dunk me until I get the molting feathers, carion flesh and hatched birdlings out of my hair, please!” As a close neighbor to an eagle's nest, I tend to agree. Thanks for posting this.

I think you mean appaling, not appealing! ;-)

Who writes these things? sounds like it was written originally in japanese then translated into french and then english. :-P :-)

Ahh, paint and dusty artifacts, bird molt…cold metal, sweaty hands and choirboys–such anticipated lovliness! All this and the promise of “golden darkness” (I suppose there is such a thing?) Quite a bit of the Macabre about it; The kind of scent Edgar Allen Poe might have imagined poured over the grave of Lenore!

Hope the scent can live up to the vivid description, LOL..
