No perfume review. Again.

Posted by Robin on 7 February 2006 41 Comments

I am still working on programming issues on Now Smell This. Most of what I am doing is time consuming but invisible, however, I have made a few changes to the appearance of the comments section (please tell me if it is an improvement?) and I have split the Noses page in two and added lots of new perfumes to the lists.

I hope to be back with a fragrance review tomorrow, but I wouldn't swear to it. As it happens, tomorrow is also this site's first birthday. Have a nice slice of chocolate cake for me — or better yet, spritz on your favorite dessert perfume.

Coming soon: reviews of Annick Goutal Songes, Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey & Fico di Amalfi by Blu Mediterraneo.

Note: the ad for Deneuve is from couleurparfum.

Oh goodness, Happy Birthday Now Smell This, a day in advance :-)

This is most definitely my favorite online place to read and research and enjoy. Thank you very much for your wonderful blog, R!

I am looking forward to all those reviews. For some reason JM Nectarine and Honey sounds especially appleaing to me. Can give me a hint, R, is it good? LOL

M, it is too fruity-sweet for me personally, and somehow I doubt you are going to like it either.

I cannot wait dear R! Happy Birthday in advance to NST and it is one of my favourite blogs ever! Thank you for providing us with such a wonderful blog.

I promise to be good and READ the names of authors because Marlen must hate me so very much!

I tried Sira des Indes and like it a lot (it launched today)- it is very well blended – banana, sandalwood, champaca etc. The drydown is soft and gorgeous.

Mr. Duriez's inspiration to create a perfume based on India has truly touched me. I hope Sira des Indes will be a huge success and I wish Jean Patou all the very best!

Wow! Has it been one year already, R? I love cake with butter cream frosting, but try to limit my intake as much as possible. LOL! Therefore, I will honor you and this fabulous blog by slathering on Chocolovers body cream tomorrow. Did you get to try it over the weekend?

I love the list of your upcoming reviews, and am especially looking forward to the ones on Songes and Nectarine Blossom and Honey. :):)

    Hugs!

Robin, to whatever extent I can blame someone for inspiring my perfume lust, you are the culprit. Thank you from the base note of my perfume heart. I'm going to put on some Cafe Noir and a side of something orange (or chocolate) in your honor.

MMM, butter cream frosting! I did try the cream, but as always in Sephora, it was competing with lots of other things. Quick decision was that maybe I liked the perfume better, but I'm going to try it again. I did like the texture. Am I right that it is even more nutty & less chocolate-y than the juice?

It is always good to have someone to blame! And my mind is blank: what is Cafe Noir? Whatever it is, it sounds good with some orange.

    Happy First Birthday, NST! Robin, you are doing a wonderful job with this blog. I can only imagine how much time and effort you put into it to make it as great as it is! (I'm kinda doing some “on the job training” myself these days!}

In honor of your special day, I baked, and taste-tested, a Chocolate Babka. My house is filled with the wonderful aroma of yeast, chocolate, and cinnamon, and there is little need for fragrance right now.

Warmest felicitations on your 1st anniversary!!! Your thoroughly enjoyable blog is required reading with my morning cuppa at work each day. Alas, I don't do 'foody' fragrances, but in honor of your blog…and my cuppa (lol)…I'll don The Vert tomorrow. After all, what is food without a beverage?

Many thanks to all you readers for clueing me in to ebay as a source of fragrance samples/decants. My nose (and my bankbook) are appreciative. :)

For me it is half the sugary sweetness of the juice, but a pretty even proportion of chocolate, orange and hazelnut. Woo-hoo!

    Hugs!

Me, too. I have struggled with the cursed nicotine for 40 years, so I am not being judgemental about Deneuve, just very very saddened to see such a waste of beauty. And happy anniversary from me at tasmanianphotographers.blogharbor. Your help has been invaluable, and your blog a daily delight to visit!

Robin, I went and checked and, sure enough, the label on the vial says “cafe noir.” What on earth do you suppose it is? Perhaps someone sent me black coffee! I'll let you know how it smells.

    Happy Happy Birthday/Anniversary NST!!

Thank you for putting so much hard work into your site – I can't wait to get home and read it every day!

I'm not a foody fragrance lover, so in honor of the occasion I will spritz on something fresh & citrusy!

Happy NST Birthday, R! Is it really only a year? You've done so much in that time! I just wish I wasn't 5/6 hours ahead of you – I have to wait impatiently till late afternoon to get my 'fix'. In your honour, I am Now Smelling a vodka-infused sample of Ambre Russe. Cheers!

I like it, but it becomes a skin scent very quickly on me. I 'get' the vodka from the start, although it's not boozy in the way that, say, Idole is. After a while, it turns into something that – on me, anyway – is very close to MPG's Or des Indes.

Thanks! It will probably come my way eventually, but doesn't sound like something I'm going to love.
