Home fragrance: Lady Rhubarb candle by DL & Co

Posted by Victoria on 25 January 2006 8 Comments

Lighting the Lady Rhubarb candle by D.L. & Co immediately conjures visions of biting into a crisp rhubarb galette. As the green and floral aroma of rhubarb rises up, its tartness melts into the delicate citrusy sparkle. The sweet mélange of blood orange, red mandarin and pink grapefruit foils the green floral interplay of rhubarb, creating a vibrant, scintillating fragrance that has just enough sweetness to softness the astringent edge. Touched by the creamy sandalwood, the scent is simply wonderful, relaxing and sensual simultaneously.

The presentation of D.L.& Co is among my favourites, with the candles encased in the jewel-toned scalloped glasses. Lady Rhubarb in its dark fuschia glass looks like a glowing ruby when it is burning. The small votives placed around the room and lit in the dark turn any apartment into a potential set for a Bollywood film. The scents themselves have a wonderful throw and a nice subtlety despite their strength.

The votive set includes an assortment of mini candles in the signature scalloped glass arranged in a Burmese silk layered box and tied with a ribbon. Included are Thorn Apple, Cobra Lily, Angel's Trumpet, Lady Rhubarb, Pink Pepper, and Absinthe. The small size of the votives does not detract from their long lasting fragrance, and a small candle is enough to scent my entire apartment.

The votive set priced at $125 includes 6 candles, each 1 oz votive offering about 8 hours of burning time. The regular candle offering 50 hours of burning time is available from $75, at lacremebeauty, luckyscent, and nooksandniches.

This sounds very appealing. So far one of the rhubarb scents haven't worked on me, but as a candle…mmm…delicious.

I've been flirting with the DL & Co candles for a long time…you may have me convinced to try the votive set. Great review!

I have this candle in the full size and it is the BOMB!!! You can smell it even when it's not burning. Just lovely! The set is perfect for using on a candle warmer, because they are small and don't take as long to melt.

I am going to a Makeupalley sniffa at Luckyscent on Sunday. I think this candle is calling my name. I am looking forward to sampling Idole also. The bottle is so interesting.

M, I only like Rose Ikebana, but it is too short lasting. Lady Rhubarb is delicious indeed.

V, I can smell even my small candle when it is not burning. And when it is burning, it is wonderful. I cannot be happier.

Have fun! I have never been to the actual store, but I hope that I will make it to the West Coast one of these days.
