Guerlain Shalimar Anniversary Edition, Fragonard Confidentiel ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 7 November 2005 12 Comments

Guerlain Shalimar anniversaryTo honor the 80th anniversary of Shalimar, Guerlain has launched this limited edition 75 ml bottle of the Eau de Parfum.

The bottle and label have been gilded in gold; the outer packaging features a short history of the legendary fragrance. (via parfumessence)

Fragonard has launched a new line, Confidentiel, with four Eaux de Toilette: Soudain, with Italian green mandarin, lemon, Guatamalan cardamom, jasmine, orange blossom, Paraguayan gaiac wood and musk; Cette Nuit La, with galbanum, neroli, essence of coriander, Bulgarian and Turkish roses, and iris absolute; Apres Tout, with Bulgarian rose, Sicilian bergamot, essence of rose de mai, violet, raspberry, crystal rose absolute, oak moss, amber and musk; and Mensonge, with grapefruit, ginger, green leaves, cardamom, nutmeg, clove, tea rose, jasmine, Haitian vetiver, sandalwood and lavender absolute.

The quartet is available now at Barneys. Thanks to Laura for passing on the details, and also check out some early thoughts on the line at Life in Paris. Update: see a review of Fragonard Soudain.

Apres Tout is calling my name…I think…I am actually not sure if I have tried a single Fragonard in my entire life …shame on me.

I could kick myself for forgetting to try these last month! (Perfume fell by the wayside for the most part on that trip.) Soudain and Mensonge sound really intriguing, though Neela's impressions dampen my enthusiasm somewhat. I'm really eager to try the line to satisfy my curiosity.

M, I don't love any of the old Fragonards myself, although I adore Eau de Garrigues from the Naturals line. Gave these all a quick spray on paper at Barneys & would say they are well done. Soudain is the only sample I was able to snag though!

L, got a sample of Soudain, which was my early favorite based on a quick spray on paper — which I already figured it would be, based on the notes. Hopefully will manage to review it soon.

For a second, I thought that bottle and box for Shalimar were of my dad's old favorite Crown Royal whiskey.

Seeing the Shalimar bottle reminds me of that ridiculous ad campaign for Shalimar Light a while back…the one with Keith Richards' and Patti Hansen's daughters. That struck me as a little odd…they were obviously going for the young & glamorous look, but Theodora and Alexandra Richards? Not exactly hot properties.

Wow, I missed that entirely. Will have to go see if I can hunt it up on one of the perfume ad sites.

    Happy Birthday, Shalimar!

I'll be sniffing the new Fragonards on my next trip to NYC. I currently wear Lune de Miel, Reve Indien, Eau Fantasque, and Fragonard de Fragonard. Cette Nuit La sounds like something I would enjoy.

Interesting ad, and I would say un-Guerlainish except that I don't follow advertising closely enough to say — for all I know, most of their new ads look equally young & hip.

Do let me know what you think, C — wish I had managed to get samples of all 4.
