NST leaves town…

Posted by Robin on 29 July 2005 35 Comments

Henlopen postcardI have no review today, and no excuse other than sheer laziness. Just as well then that I am off on vacation. Am wearing Les Bains du Marais Fleur d'Oranger, and looking forward to a relaxing week. My plans: eat french fries, sit under a beach umbrella and finish the Billy Strayhorn biography I've been neglecting all month, eat some more fries, and take my son to the boardwalk to ride the bumper cars.

I am trying to limit the number of fragrances I bring, because if last year's beach vacation is any indication, I won't end up wearing any of them anyway. In my bag so far: Carthusia Mediterraneo, L'Eau de L'Artisan, yesterday's Parfums de Nicolai Eau d'Été, Un Jardin Sur Le Nil, and Creed Jasmal. No doubt I will throw in a few more before I leave.

If it turns out (and I suspect that it will) that I do in fact have to come back home, I will post again on Tuesday, August 9th.

Have a safe trip! Let me know how you end up liking the book, because it has been recommended to me by a friend. I love his music.

Thank you V! I usually eat enough french fries to gain at least 3 pounds. And crab cakes, and ice cream, and they have a wonderful creperie. I will not go hungry :-)

V, I love Strayhorn, but I find biographies hard going in the summer. Hope I will finish it. Just found out yesterday that a new biography of Dinah Washington came out this year and I will have to read that too, although all the music bios turn out the same: massive talent destroyed by alcohol & drugs.

    Hey, R.

Sounds like you're going to “the Shore”. Mmm… salt water taffy. Fried Taylor Pork roll on a bun. The boardwalk perfume of grease, sugar, coconut suntanoil, fried skin, Jean Nate. Oh, I just described JLo Miami!

    Have fun!

A, Where I come from we said “beach”, and since moving to PA I have learned that that is how you distinguish those that go to NJ (“the shore”) and those that go farther south (“the beach”). Is that why I don't know what a Taylor Pork roll is?

But the other smells, I imagine, are all about the same.

Have a funfilled vacation, R, and eat some more of those fries for me!

I need to get ahold of that Strayhorn bio. I always hoped that he would come out from behind the Duke's shadow and be recognized as the major talent behind the talent! :) And a Dinah Washington bio, too? I don't know much about her life, but love her velvety voice.

Hugs and love. Have a safe vacation, darling!

R, Will eat enough fries for everyone, I'm sure ;-)

Dinah Washington was another lived hard, died young — she was only 39, and apparently her voice was already completely shot.

    Thanks for the good wishes!
