Now Smell This takes a break…

Posted by Robin on 6 May 2005 17 Comments

I have no perfume review today, and I am taking the rest of the weekend off. Come back next week for reviews of the new L'Artisan by Olivia Giacobetti, Extrait de Songe, and Bond no. 9 Chinatown.

If you are wearing something fabulous today, or if you have tried something new & wonderful lately, please comment!

I feel so behind. There is a new L'Artisan by Giacobetti? In the meantime, I am wearing SL Bois et Fruits and wondering, exactly, what the difference is between this and Feminite du Bois. Is it lighter? Is it fruitier? All I know is, I'm wearing it, and to me, it smells like almost exactly like FdB, and perhaps that was the point.

Give that sniffer of yours a good weekend rest, and I look forward to seeing the next post!

I think Bois et Fruits has more fruit in it. I'm actually wearing it today. Can't wait to sniff the new Extrait de Songe.

Looking forward to the reviews, especially of the Extrait de Songe. Does anyone know if Bond No.9 is available in the UK anywhere?

Oh, and after my exciting shopping session yesterday, and falling in love with Sous le Buis, I'd be interested in your analysis of the Gobin Daude range!

I agree with cazaubon below, BeF is fruitier & sweeter than Feminite du Bois, although I never tried them right next to each other. I like the Feminite better.

Giacobetti did the new Extrait de Songe, and I need to sign up for your first writing class: that isn't clear in the post, is it? It sounds like there is a new Giacobetti, plus something new called Extrait?

It is very “cottony”, just as the L'Artisan rep at the Soho store said it would be. I like it!

You must post on POL, right? I think I read your shopping post there and answered it. I like Gobin Daude very much, and Sous Le Buis is my favorite, Seve Exquise being a close second. I wish they were a little cheaper in the US, and for that matter, I'm not sure you can buy them here at all now.

Harvey Nichols is supposed to get the Bond line by the end of this month, but I don't know who else has it.

Yes, that's me – TogetherAlone – on POL. And you're Izzi there, right? How expensive are the Gobin Daude's in the US? 1.7oz cost £58 -about $90? It's expensive enough HERE for that size.

Yep, I'm izzy231. I think the GDs were $140. Just about everyone who carried them here has dropped the line though. I hear they are half price at Les Senteurs too, or they were? Is that where you bought your bottle?

This would certainly be a well deserved break… I don't know how on earth you keep up so well with all the new stuff and the news and the releases, and then to write it all up and… gah, I get tired just thinking about even.

I'm sporting Floris' White Rose at the moment. Very pretty, sort of odd. Comes on neutral, then it warms, and then it gets to be what I'd call a very cold rose. Interesting. Not the most overly complex rose I'd say, but interesting. I'm tempted to layer this with Cuiron and see what that is like.

Today I am wearing Persian Lime Blossom and Mimosa by Slatkin & Company. Christophe Laudamiel (IFF)created the fragrance and I receive more compliments on this edp than any fragrance I have ever worn. It's fresh, floral, lactonic, and musky…as if you bathed in flowers after a sunshower, on a warm day, with the afterscent of thunder in your hair.

I read a comment in the New York Observer, a few months back, saying that Laudamiel has created a custom fragrance for Amanda Lepore that is not yet available. Now that should be VERY interesting…

Note to VanillaGirl, as to the Bonds. Yes, you will be able to purchase the Bond scents soon at Harvey Nichols. I heard from Laurice this week and she is heading to London soon to launch the Bond scents at that store!

I haven't tried the White Rose, and will have to add it to my list. What is Cuiron, is that another Floris?

I like the Lime Blossom & Mimosa, and I need to add the Slatkin line to Laudamiel's list on the noses page. I saw on the S-Perfume website that he had done something for Lepore but I didn't know they were going to market it! That should be interesting.

Cuiron is a Helmut Lang creation. My favorite leather, or more to the point, the only leather I really favor. It's not overly tannic, and it's like smelling swatch after swatch of leather and suede samples. It's supposed to be a men's cologne, but it's terribly versatile. I think it's an overlooked gem. Gah, I need to get off my bum and order some sample supplies, just so I can mail one of this off to you! I think you'd really find it interesting.

I am not a huge fan of leather, but I will look for it! Anyway it is always fun to hang around the men's counter and have the SAs tell me I won't like something because it is too masculine.

I am not usually a huge fan of powder, but Iris Poudre is a lovely scent! And thanks for the compliment on the blog :-)
