New Perfumery Museum in Washington, DC.

The Qatar America Institute for Culture (QAIC) has opened a Perfumery Museum / interactive exhibit inside their headquarters in Washington, DC.

Remarkable objects used for la toilette

Hillwood’s founder, Marjorie Merriweather Post, focused on acquiring magnificent pieces of eighteenth-century French decorative arts, which she valued for their exquisite designs and historic associations, during the first half of the twentieth century and many remarkable objects used for la toilette made it into her collection. Perfume & Seduction will trace the form and function of perfume bottles, explore a variety of shapes and materials and the process of making perfume, and examine the evolution of forms during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, highlighting examples from Hillwood’s collection.

Cucumber-melon-scented air fresheners

Call it a win for sensitive-nosed riders. Metro has abandoned plans to install more cucumber-melon-scented air fresheners on the Green Line.

The kerfuffle over a well-meaning olfactory endeavor came about last month, after Metro announced it had conducted a pilot to try to improve the smell on 6000-series trains by using air fresheners installed in the ventilation system.
