Snare drums! I want to recreate the scent of snare drums – tssss tsssk tsstkaa tsskaa. Pink pepper, white pepper, something metallic and somewhat powdery for sure. Maybe a little Ionone Alpha? Ooh how about some Cashmeran? It’s always smelled “scratchy” to me. I think it would give it a soft grittiness. If only I could find an olfactive way to translate the space that occurs between each snare once one crashes into the other – instantaneously and simultaneously jumping right back off again in a millisecond.

For a moment, I wonder if the thing is going to leap out and attack me. Curled into the base of a steel box, it's a tangle of what looks like fur, claws and hide. It could be a piece of a garish Halloween costume. Or the remnants of some very strange Biology experiment gone wrong. I stare at it for a moment. And then, reassured that it's quite dead, I bring it closer to my nose and breathe in.

Inspired by Mugler’s childhood memories of fun fairs, Angel celebrates the duality and strength of women, pairing sweet notes of passion fruit, chocolate, caramel, vanilla and candyfloss with a stonking big and masculine patchouli note. The result is an olfactory drag queen that is Amazonian in its presence. Imagine RuPaul in a giant wig, glittery couture gown and 9 inch heels and you’re on the right track.
