Atelier Cologne Oolang Infini ~ fragrance review
I have a love-hate relationship with cologne. I love the idea of the clap of a tart, citrusy cologne and how it wakes you as surely as jumping into a swimming pool. I love the luxurious ritual of a splash of cologne between shower and dress. In Perfumes: the A to Z Guide, Luca Turin summarizes it well:
A good cologne is the perfumery equivalent of a postconcert encore: brief, familiar to the entire audience, which sighs with pleasure when hearing the first notes; and completely devoid of any ambition beyond transient joy. Spring Citrus: Atelier Cologne Clementine California & Citron d’Erable ~ fragrance reviews
Atelier Cologne fragrances are stacking up. In 2016, they released 10 perfumes, and as of this writing, I count 32 fragrances for sale on their website (that’s 32 fragrances released in under SEVEN years). Diptyque has been around almost 60 years and has about the same number of fragrances (not counting discontinuations) as Atelier Cologne. Frédéric Malle (10 years older than Atelier Cologne) has not broken the 30 mark (it sells 26 fragrances). But what a difference! Diptyque and Frédéric Malle sell some sensational, memorable perfumes. Atelier Cologne? Not really.
As the years have gone by, Atelier Cologne has developed a recognizable style: the perfume equivalent of the Lacoste polo shirt…

Sad. Falling into her poor black eyes (ouch!) and then giving a guilty kiss … as recompense? (thanks for nothing). I guess we’ll blame the translator of Atelier Cologne’s Encens Jinhae1 PR…

Part three in our eight-part series on fragrance related holiday gifts features scented items for men, although there are plenty of “unisex” ideas in the other articles, and as always there are probably a few things here that women might like. Do add any of your own recommendations in the comments!
From DS & Durga, Bowmakers in a pocket perfume oil roll-on: “Amongst the transcendental woods of the 1800s, craftsmen from the Massachusetts Bay Colony built violin bows in the tiny towns of the Pioneer Valley. The shops were filled with old growth mahogany, burled maple shavings, amber pine rosin, aged walnut and the craftsmen’s unique, secret varnishes. An androgynous, full bodied scent, Bowmaker’s ether reek is subdued by supple leather and a variety of woods.” $72 for 10 ml at Twisted Lily…
