Friday scent of the day 7/9
Happy Ice Cream month! Our community project for today: tell us your favorite flavor, share a recipe if you like, and wear any perfume that you think fits the project.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
My favorite flavor is chocolate, although I’m not all that interested in plain chocolate ice cream. I like any ice cream better if you add chocolate chips, though, and I like chocolate better if there is something else added, whether fruit, coffee, nuts or spice. When I was still making ice cream regularly, one of my favorite recipes was the Vietnamese Coffee from Saveur, with about 1/2 cup of chopped chocolate thrown in the ice cream maker at the last minute.*
I never made fig ice cream, but now I’m tempted to dust off the ice cream maker and try a batch. So for today, I’m wearing Diptyque Philosykos on one arm and Imaginary Authors + Salt & Straw A Whiff of Waffle Cone on the other…

However, after the forced confinement of 2020 and early 2021, I felt the need to escape my urban surroundings and my daily routine for a few days. A few days at an inn in a wooded riverside landscape turned out to be just what I needed; even two hours’ travel from New York, there’s enough greenery and quiet solitude to shift my perspective.
Returning to my metropolitan perch, I found myself reaching for a few nature-themed, “green”-heavy fragrances that I’d gathered into a little pile earlier in the summer. They’ve been helping me to extend that outdoorsy mood a little longer, even as I settle down at my laptop with my window view of adjacent apartment buildings. Here are three I can recommend for sensory refreshment and mental wanderings…
