It's the weekend at last, and we're relaxing with our standard open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance that says "December" to you, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Today, the Sample Sea has seen fit to toss up a dabber of Vintage Caron Poivre perfume. This must have been sent to me during a swap or some such other trading activity here on NST. It’s lovely! Not my usual cup of tea and something I’d surely skip over if I was ordering samples from a distributor. It reminds me of my grandmother but not in any negative way. I think it must be the carnation. She was not a perfume wearer as she grew up very poor during the Depression and never, ever lost her suspicion of the many and varied detriments of “frivolous money habits.” Frugality was in her DNA, which is not surprising for those who lived through those times, I guess. So, she saw perfume as very wasteful spending which is sad.
And bad news for those wanting Trump’s new Fragrance (“Fight, Fight, Fight!”) Sorry to say it’s sold out on the website. Really, I don’t know if I should be laughing or crying…
I finished my beaded scarf necklace! I’m hoping to take it (or a newer and better iteration) with me to France next year and wear it when I visit Notre Dame again. It’s a beaded homage to all the scarf wearers in that lovely country. I think it could definitely dress up a nice T-Shirt and jeans. Thrown on an understated bag and some wedges and you’re styling! Neither of the models were very cooperative. One had a double chin getting in the way and the other was only interested in getting payment in the form of a biscuit. 🐶 Here’s a link for those interested in seeing it. The beads are much more dimensional and colorful in person.

Happy weekend!!
Happy weekend Deva!!
Until the end of her life my grandmother depended on gifts to get her beloved Jean Nate. I think it was the same, she did not think she should spend the money on herself.
Am leaving the Trump comment but that’s the end of that discussion, ok guys? No politics please!
Oh gosh I adore Jean Nate!!! That and 4711 were the inexpensive staples in my childhood home
It was really nice stuff! And the bubble bath was excellent.
I have not smelled a new bottle in eons, no idea if it is still lovely.
I’m sure it still has the Jean Nate DNA. Now I’m itching to try it lol
I went to an estate sale yesterday that had fragrances. There was a bottle of JN bath salts but it was half empty and expensive, so I passed.
They did have two small Laliques of L’ air du temps.
I have fond memories of sharing a big splash bottle of Jean Nate with my Mom when I was a tween.
That necklace/scarf is impressive – you are very talented. How many labor hours go into making something like that?
And Caron Poivre is lovely, at least in my scent memory – haven’t smelled it in many years.
I’ve had a lot of time the last couple of weeks because I’ve been stuck in a hotel. I’d say I worked on it for two or two and half solid days but this is the first time I made this particular pattern. Mistakes were made, errors happened, there was some back tracking (and bad language!😅), but next time should be much quicker. It drapes just like fabric, but next time I will change the thread used to give it even more drape. The thread I used for this one is a bit too stiff for my liking.
Surely bad language is an integral part of any creative process??
🙃
That’s a wonderful necklace/ dog collar. I think T Rex would make all the Parisian Poodles green with envy if she wore that down the boulevard. I’m impressed.
Thank you!
That necklace is gorgeous!! Bravo!!
Thank you!
Your scarf is most excellent! Those pictures should be in People Magazine’s “Who Wore it Best?” 😀
So elegant, it has an art deco vibe too.
My gosh that is a lovely scarf necklace!
Your beading is awesome!
Your beaded scarf necklace is beautiful.
Love the beaded scarf! I wish I had the patience for a project like that.
Wow! Beautiful beadwork! Most impressive. 🤩
Such beautiful beadwork! Really loved seeing the photos.
Love your beadwork.
I absolutely love the beaded scarf necklace and its homage intent and, yes, a fitting tribute to the classy-looking-citizens-no-matter-what-they’re-wearing-but-especially-those-wearing-scarves of that lovely country! I want to go back there again!❤️
Allons-y! 😃🇫🇷
Your beadwork is fantastic! Thank you for sharing!
The necklace is stunning and looks great on both models. On T-Rex, it blends beautifully with the fur, creating a harmonious look. But I also love the striking contrast against the red jumper.
Beautiful scarf necklace!
This is so gorgeous, Deva. Well done. And well done on the model who works for biscuits!
A day late and a dollar short, but my one layering combination this week is Dryad + Private Collection. They smelled like they have some notes in common, and I was right: bergamot, narcissus, orange blossom, oakmoss. Just lovely.
Interesting combo SarahN! I can see that working nicely.
Scent of the morning is my custom blend EDP from when Sarah Horowitz was known as Creative Scentualizations. She created this blend for me in honor of my eldest, as a signature scent to remember me by. It’s called Brigitte and the notes are grapefruit, freesia, African violet, waterlily, Egyptian musk, French vanilla, Pavarotti sandalwood, waves, soft lilac, spicy lilac, African musk. I’m not hoarding my bottle because I took advantage of the Thanksgiving sale and bought an extrait version for my birthday present this year.
That’s so cool you have your very own perfume!
Back in those days it was insanely affordable to custom blend. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to do this!!
Sarah Horowitz is very talented.
I gave her gardenia perfume oil to my gardenia loving sister. It was very realistic, I thought. Just gorgeous.
Did some picking up around the house and contended with some budgeting. Now it’s off to take a shower, eat lunch and then go to work. Will be wearing Eau Premiere today.
Good for you for getting your chores done, Dawn!
How did your first day back at work go?
Yesterday was fine but today I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off.
Congrats on the budgeting. That reminded me to make my spreadsheet for 2025.
Ava Luxe Moksha today. I smell like a busy carpenter’s workshop. In a good way.
I’m so impressed with the Ava Lux offerings. Thanks to cauzabon I’ve tried quite a few. Definitely an indie brand worth supporting
I have had this vial for a very long time. Haven’t explored any recent AL offerings, but maybe I should!
Ava Luxe, yes, another wonderful indie perfumer whose work I really enjoy.
The smell of summer and Christmas is in the air: lime ( linden) trees. I love the unexpectedness of the smell such as when I was in the supermarket car park the other day packing groceries into the boot of my car and a swirl of scent swept by…from a tree across the road.
My ‘ residency’ house is working out well so far. It’s very hot here but the house ( modernist) opens out so air flows through, and the views are beautiful of the river and mountains. I can’t see any neighbours but ( unfortunately j a house nearby plays incredibly loud music from dinner until 2am, the bass is like a jackhammer. I feel sorry for the permanent neighbours as it’s already driving me mad.
I have some of Gaynor’s samples with me so I’m layering Isra and Minaj Stephane Humbert Lucas ( spicy, fuggy vanilla) with Cap Neroli. Seems okay though a bit rich ( dense) in this heat. All the cherry trees in the nearby orchards are ripening and all the briar roses are in full flower so might try for a cherry / rose combo when I can. Reading Rebecca…from the shelves . Enjoying it.
https://www.heritage.org.nz/list-details/349/Listing
This is where I am, and what I look at
That is a gorgeous view!
Gorgeous view and yay for Rebecca! My Cousin Rachel is one of my absolute favorite books…I may need to do a rereading soon.
I know I missed it, but why are you in a different house and how long are you there for?
Just a couple of months over summer for a writing residency in a house in a small town overlooking a river. It’s a hot, stone-fruit growing ,part of the country about two hours from home
Gosh, I would not mind at all if Christmas was warm and the air smelled of linden!
That’s a shame about the music, though.
My sense of smell is diminished due to my lingering cold, so will probably go commando today.
Does anyone here watch Jeopardy and caught the scent-related final Jeopardy clue this week?
Category: Brand Names
Clue: They’ve been described as having the unique scent of “slightly earthy soap with pungent leather-like clay undertones”
Any guesses? I was totally stumped and none of the contestants got it right.
I randomly thought of Nozema, but knew it wasn’t right. And one contestant came close guessing Play-doh. Another contestant guessed Birkenstocks, ha!
The answer is Crayola Crayons. And the description is from their trademark application for the smell. Fascinating.
That is a good catch – glad you share it. I definitely get the clay part.
Interesting. I would have never guessed Crayola. I will have to dig out some of my daughters crayons.
Ditto. I can see it now, but would never have guessed it.
Gosh, me 3.
Interesting! I don’t remember smelling soap from Crayola Crayons; I remember paraffin.
Sorry for not appearing around for quite some time. Last few weeks have been tough at work and tough for my head and my mood. The situation is still not great but I’m a bit more hopeful.
I am wearing 1979 New Wave from Les Bains Guerbois today. Such an interesting pairing of mint and Iris.
https://www.instagram.com/p/DDR4AiDoj80/?igsh=MTJhM2JrNjF2c21u
It’s nice to hear from you, and I hope things improve soon at work.
Hi lucasai, it’s great to see you posting and you smell great, of course😊
Hi!
I was thinking about you the past few days and here you are, smelling great!
The holidays can be hard for so many of us, so extra glad to see you.
Sorry you’re having a rough time, Lucasai.
Beautiful photo today, though!
Oh, hope hings get better soon for you.
Sorry to hear that things have been rough at work.
Your photo composition is always beautiful.
Yesterday was lovely, it’s finally starting to feel like summer. I’m out of practice and didn’t think of sunblock before I went out for a walk and the back of my neck was a bit red last night. It’s fine this morning, so it was very minor, but the sun is ferocious here, I believe it’s a combination of a thin ozone layer and Earth’s orbit.
I’m contemplating FM’s Noir Épices this morning.
First sunburn of the year, that’s officially summer then!
Joining SarahN in late to the CP party with Aura body cream and Un Bois Vanille. The mad fruitiness of Aura rules, but some of M. Luten’s spicy vanilla made it through to join Aura’s musky vanilla. Trying to get the house back in order after 3 weeks of travel. Left 60 degree weather behind to arrive in 18 degrees. I just hid in the house for a day but we had a wonderful trip. Sunrise beach walks almost every day and lots of fresh Gulf seafood. Now I have laundry from three seasons to wash and put away. Plus, although we were not home to mess things up, the kitties were.
Welcome back! I’m glad you had a nice trip.
3 weeks of sunrise beach walks, yay!!
Welcome back home! It sounds like you had such a lovely holiday; I’m sure your kitties are happy to see you!
So glad you had a blissful vacation, the kitties must have missed you.
Welcome back! Did the kitties snub you for a bit when you returned?
SOTM is Ambre Russe, from a dabber sample. And then, somehow, a FB was ordered. Don’t know how that happened! 😂
Amazing how that happened!
I liked Daphne so much yesterday that I’m wearing it again today–but solo, without the layer of Orgasmo on top.
My latest K-drama had a scent element. It’s called “The Girl Who Sees Smells” and is about said young woman who had a bad car accident and was in a coma for six months, and awoke with this new ability. It’s clever the way they show it with special effects that look like trails emanating from objects in sparkling little clouds of various colors and shapes. She winds up helping police solve a serial killer case. She’s kind of like a human bloodhound. I must say that overall it’s a very mixed show that I can’t quite recommend, but I did like that aspect of it, and it has a cute romance of her with a young policeman, and the serial killer, who turns out to be a celebrity chef, is very chilling. It’s just overall too weird a mix of rom-com with genuine suspense/thriller stuff.
In one scene she takes an older woman who has been kind to her into some sort of scent store where you can mix your own perfume, and I know that NST’ers would enjoy that scene a lot–I did!
I have never watched a single K drama and probably would not start with one about a serial killer, but that does sound like a fun premise!
Back from a birthday brunch with a very dear friend. My birthday is Dec 4th and his is Dec 8th, so we meet in the middle to celebrate each other!! SOTD is a spritz of Fille de Berlin-rosey and warm.
Need to clean and decorate, but so much going on. I am meeting on Tuesday to finalize selection of a new apartment, and will be moving soon in the new year….Yikes, the thought of all that I have to do is just overwhelming. I think all of my Christmas “gifts” will be downsized items from my stuffed townhouse!!
Moving can be overwhelming, but you will get there. Definitely break it down into sections or rooms or something. Best of luck finding a new apt.
My parents downsized several years ago, and my mom’s philosophy was “throw out at least one thing every day, no matter how big or small”.
Happy belated birthday jepster! And very good luck with the move, that is soon so I understand being overwhelmed. Hope you will enjoy the holidays anyway!
Rather belated birthday wishes, jepster! 🎊🎂🥂
I totally understand the overwhelm of a move. I got thru mine the same way you’d eat a bison; one bite at a time. Small goals lead to big results!
I didn’t post last week – just a hectic week, but I don’t layer much. Or actually I do, but it’s all inadvertent. I start off in a fragrance and then think of (or someone mentions) another fragrance and I’ll put some of that on, etc.
I attended a very interesting talk on Smell, Memory and Thought in Seattle on Thurs eve. In addition to the professor from Harvard who spoke, an artist from Iceland also joined in to take us on a “scent journey.” People asked questions and I wanted to discuss all the perfume questions, but I refrained (it was a fairly large audience). I was wishing all of you could have joined me for this!
Will you be joining me in Reglisse Noire for ginger week?
Yes – thanks for the reminder about Reglisse Noire. ♥ In addition, I will be wearing Mx., Mxxx. and JM Ginger Biscuit. Plus PG Un Crime Exotique and Chanel Bois des Iles for the gingerbread notes.
Do you have Tibetan Mountain Temple? Or Berdoues Arz el Rab? More ginger goodness!!!!
Don’t have those. Adding DSH Gingembre to the list!
I think we are both fans of ginger 🫚
Yes!
Interesting talk! Mr. Ockeghem touches on all that stuff in his work, though he’s more interested in the auditory side of the senses. I would have liked to have been able to sit in!
It was very good! And the artist who did the scent journey had a part in creating a scented exhibit that is still at the Nordic Museum (where the talk was held). I haven’t seen the exhibit yet.
I’m wearing Zoologist Musk Deer this morning, I might need a travel spray of this.
When I was in Japan I bought a bag of lemon drops at a 7-11 and now I am trying to find some that taste the same. It’s an interesting venture, I hadn’t thought there would be so many ways to flavor a lemon drop. Some are more sour, some are sweeter. I am looking for a balance between the two.
MUJI carries really lovely yuzu/kumquat hard candies that might meet your requirements. I keep a deep stock of them on hand. (Not affiliated, just a fan!) If you don’t live in a city with a store(s), they do have mail order.
Thank you!
I love Musk Deer and bought a FB of it. I need to get it out of the cabinet and use it now! Thanks for the reminder.
These are possibly no where near in taste to your Japanese ones, but I can’t help sharing. I love the quaint packaging!
https://www.sees.com/candy/200775.html
Thank you!
Have you tried looking on Amazon for your Japanese lemon drops?
Slept and slept. Will I ever get tired of no alarms?
I do have one for next week. Promised a dear friend to attend her little ones’ Christmas play.
Silky Woods today. And laundry.
No, you will never get tired of no alarms! I don’t believe we are made to live our lives around being rudely woken by some loud noise. Ugh! Hope the play was cute! I can’t imagine a kids play NOT being cute! 🙃
They live way on other side of LA.
I no longer like two hour drives.
I’m still playing around with layering Cuir Mauresque and have tried Rose Jam on one wrist and Perris Monte Carlo Rose de Mai. They both work well as CM softeners🌹
Yay!
My CM twin!
SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure
Lovely! I could have used this yesterday but no regrets with my combo!
I made it to the post office today. When I checked on the tracking numbers (ok, I checked one and that counts, right? Right!) and since I saw the post office person just sweeping all my packages to a bin, I did not think they were scanned to be tracked. Those of you waiting for a package, I’ll check again tomorrow.
The CEO murder just reminded me of when I was co-located with Global Security, there was a whiteboard with where our CEO was if he was traveling. Also, he most definitely had 24-hour security detail. That said, I bet that info disappeared rather quickly. For as much as people are torn about being aghast versus supporting (negatively) what transpired, I am hoping that the killer is found and brought to justice!
Hajusuuri, I think it is sad and disgusting how fellow humans think they know who is fit to live or not live.
Well, honestly this is what insurance companies do every single day, don’t they? They decide who gets care, who doesn’t, and those that don’t become increasingly ill, drown in medical debt, or die preventable deaths. Certainly not condoning this fugitive’s behavior. It’s reprehensible but on a certain level I understand it. I also think the outpouring of mostly justified vitriol directed at these companies from the American public since this happened says a lot. What I don’t see is anyone mentioning his insider trading habits that gained him 15 million dollars. With his insider trader buddies, they made about 100 million off the sick and dying American public on top of the 6 BILLION United made in profits off our backs- yours, mine, the mailman, and every insured person in the US. It wasn’t made public until after the incident but an investigation just began when this happened. Oh, he was a stellar citizen for sure! Valedictorian, football star, yada yada yada….🙄
Deva, I get it. I have many health issues that I simply can not take care of due to costs and my insurance being crappy. I pay every week out of my paycheck for pretty much routine exams. I just got the bill for some tests that I finally decided to do, and I don’t know how I will pay it. Also the insurance company notified me that they will now be making my doctors out of network. So now I really can’t go anymore. I live in fear of getting sick and having medical bill people take my house and my children will end up on the street. Separate from that though, in my heart..( the good part lol) I don’t think death should be wished upon or celebrated. I’m good with wishing people out of a job though . I would really like this system to change for the better.
Ugh, that’s just horrible! I’m sorry you are having coverage issues, too. My anesthesia got denied a couple years ago. Had the same procedure at the same place by the same provider 5 months prior (ERCP) and it was covered. Such a scam…😏
Have you noticed that post office deliveries in your area are taking longer due to Christmas volume?
You know what? I have not noticed! I have to say though that the USPS seems to have automatically added 1 day to expected delivery times for ALL packages …
I did participate in the CP yesterday, though not that well, and then I didn’t post anyway. First I thought I’d mix irises, and mixed Puente Iris Doux with SL Iris Silver Mist, but that didn’t really do much. So then I thought I’d add rose, and sprayed on Lyric. Really I just smelled like Lyric for the day. Maybe I should have done it in the opposite order.
Realizing this weekend that I only have a few weekends before we move home, and I’m kicking and screaming against it. Though…next weekend we have our last trip planned, and Deutsche Bahn has managed to screw it up, like just about everything they touch. And you can’t reschedule online after they cancel trains, you have to go to the train station to do it. I mean, I guess it’s good as it forces me to speak German, but that’s not the situation where I want to be forced to do so.
Looking forward to meeting a friend and his family tomorrow for a Gregorian chant mass (he and Mr. Ockeghem are professionally interested) and then lunch. Always good to get out of our little Canadian apartment orbit here.
Hope the chant was lovely! Sounds very soothing and calming. Which you probably appreciate after the transportation issue. 🙃
Wish there was a Gregorian chant mass near me, lucky you and hope it was wonderful!
Hope you get your travel plans sorted and thoroughly enjoy your last weeks 🙂
Sampling Donna Karan Cashmere & Palo Santo today but it’s pretty underwhelming. I find whatever is being used for the wood note to be in the synthetic/screechy realm just like Vanille Antique which was a pass for me too.
Still have quite of bit of stuff to do personally and at work before Xmas. 😅Trying to remain jolly and not stressed. 🎅🏻🎄
Thanks for the min-review. I’ve been wondering about it after seeing it a ton on fragrance youtube.
I bought it and then sold it on ebay. It was so dense and cloying on me.
I wore Rose d’Amalfi this morning.
I feel like this is a more spring scent and I am in the mood for a darker rose.
The book Empire of the Summer Moon starts off with some graphic scenes, and between that and watching Vikings on Netflix, I’m doing my best not to cringe!
I wore a nice velvet blazer and cowboy boots today for lunch with friends.
Gosh I am now 2 days late, but hope it was a wonderful lunch!
SOTD is VCA Bois D’ Iris.
Question of the Day: Do any of you wear Fracas anymore? I have been thinking about buying a bottle. I haven’t had it for years and don’t see anyone talk about it, so I am guessing it is not very popular in this day and age.
Fracas can be a little on the intense side so that is probably why you don’t hear about it often.
Good point Dawn. I probably should think about another tuberose scent.
Here’s a link to an article I read recently about Fracas.
http://perfumeposse.com/2024/12/02/fracas-and-friends/
Thanks for the link. It was an interesting article.
I’ve never been able to pull it off myself, but if you like it, go for it, I believe it’s reasonably priced compared to niche and there is utterly nothing like it.
well actually there are plenty like it (Madonna Truth or Dare for example but that’s dc) but Fracas is The Queen.
It’s been so long since I had it that I am questioning if I would still like it. I certainly don’t hear talk about it much anymore.
There’s a lotion version available, if that’s something you’d be interested in. I’ve ordered from here before (not to enable though).
https://www.theperfumeshoppecanada.com/fracas-body-lotion-75ml-by-robert-piguet/
Thanks, but I don’t need any more shower gels or lotions. I am pretty sure I probably have enough for several years. Now that I think about it, I probably have enough perfumes for several years as well😉
Maybe sample Fracas before getting a full bottle?
FWIW, I did not see much of a resemblance between Fracas and Truth or Dare.
I think I am going to forget about it the more I think about it. I really don’t need anything🤣
I adore Fracas. I don’t tend to reach for tuberose much anymore…Fracas or Carnal Flower or the Estee Lauder (and would include Tubereuse Criminelle except it’s been years since I had any) and I don’t know why. Going to try to remember to wear it soon!
Thinking about this for one more minute, I think there are lots of older, heavier fragrances that I don’t reach for much but do still adore and am glad to have when the mood strikes. FM Therese is another. Apercu. Etc. They are all of them a heavy commitment to make in the morning 🙂
I don’t reach for tuberose much anymore either. I love the EL one and also have a few from Rogue I like. I didn’t care for Tubereuse Criminelle as much due to the menthol smell to it. I am still thinking about Fracas though.
I wore a blackberry oil today to do some Christmas baking so I didn’t want anything too distracting. I made some linzer cookies, sandwiched with a bit of raspberry jam. They turned out pretty good for a first attempt. My batch made 20 cookies so time will tell if they make it to Christmas.
Happy weekend, everyone!
I love those, and so there’s no way that 20 of them would make it to Christmas in my house!
I’m sure we’ll take care of most of them! I froze over 1/2 of them, just so they’re out of sight. I don’t think I’ve met a cookie that I don’t like.
It’s early Sunday morning here, and I’m warming up for the ginger week with Rose Anonyme (layered over Weleda Wild Rose body oil). “Chinese ginger” is listed among the notes, but I can’t say I detect it. Still, it’s a lovely rose-oud fragrance – a lighter, more wearable take on the popular rose-oud combination. No ginger, though.
I love the Weleda Wild Rose body lotion too. It goes well with many of the darker rose fragrances that I own.
Never tried their lotions, but so far I love all of Weleda oils tried – Lavender, Citrus and Wild Rose. Wild Rose indeed goes well with rose perfumes, especially earthier ones.
I never noticed ginger in Rose Anonyme either.
Got some good news last night. Our union contract passed. With that contract passing, I will get 75 cents more an hour, get back pay from that pay raise and a $600 bonus. The back pay is because contract negotiations lasted a few months longer than it should have. I guess the company I work for started to listen with employees saying that our paychecks haven’t kept up with the price of anything. The issue is that all the back pay and bonus is that this will be taken care of in stages. One group of people will get theirs and the next week, another group will get theirs. I want mine sooner rather than later.
Will be wearing Lyric later on today but not quite willing to hop in the shower now.
Congratulations Dawn, that’s great news!
Congratulations! What great news, especially around the holidays. 😀
That’s great! Congrats!
Great news for you!
Bonus news great!!
Woo-hoo congrats Dawn.
That’s great, Dawn! It’s nice to hear some good news.
I’m so happy for you!💐
Excellent news, Dawn! Congrats!
Happy for you, and hope you end up in the “sooner” group!
Another beautiful sunny day, two in a row! I was craving rose so I am wearing DSH American Beauty.
Found a very old 300ml bottle of 4711 at an estate sale yesterday for very cheap. Still smells great. Not sure what to do with it.
Wait til summer and you’ll be happy you had it! All 300 ml.
Found some Cuir de Russie edt in my sample stash so that’s what I’m sporting. Wishing chill Sunday vibes to all! 😎
Ha, I am late but you smelled great yesterday! And finally made it to instagram to look at your beaded collar and adding more applause, it is fantastic.
https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/dec/08/ten-dark-winter-rituals?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
This is a very interesting article about ancient Christmas/ winter rituals including pre-dawn walks, and visits to apple orchards…but the first one concerns the ritual of appointing Lords of Misrule, which dates back to Roman times. So, I’m matching with Lords of Misrule but in a far less rowdy capacity.
What a fun and sometimes weird list! Thank you. I liked the one about the Welsh poetry contest a lot!
Cool article. Thanks for sharing the link!
Enjoying reading about everyone’s scents and baking. I haven’t felt up to putting on fragrance. I’ve been getting headaches all week. Not pounding, but enough to zap my energy. Got a good night’s sleep last night and today seems a little better. I don’t usually get headaches, certainly not daily ones. Hopefully just some low-grade viral thing that will get better on its own. But if not, I will get one of my physician colleagues to order some tests.
Oh no, so sorry Sapphire! Hope it is just a virus.
Today I’m in Francesca Bianchi Lost in Heaven and yesterday was spent in Serge Lutens Rousse. I did some Christmas shopping downtown near Pike Place Market, which was a zoo with tourists, but I did buy what I set out to. I thought Rousse was a good holiday inspiration of a scent. It was nice to see all the light displays and Christmas trees downtown, but it was a super windy and chilly day to be down by the waterfront. Thankfully, the wind has passed and it’s much more mild feeling today.
I have wonderful memories of a single visit to the Pike Place Market in September 2016 and also a great frustration.
I bought and took home the most delicious plums (or nectarines?) I have ever had in my life. The seller told me they also did mail orders. However, I’ve never managed to figure out either the variety of plum or recall who the seller was. The flesh of these plums was unusually light in color, like a white peach, but there was plum wine shading around the seed and under the skin. They were smallish plums. Or nectarines.
I’m not sure why I’m posting about this now as we’re far from plum season so I can’t beg you to go back and look for them!😅
Aww, I wish I could help with this! Maybe if we both remember during plum season. 😉
PSA for those of you in Canada-it appears that Zara has Silence Rose Flowers Romance d’Iris in again. I have been checking the Canada site for some of you that were interested in it.
It’s Monday, and I am wearing two sprays of Phaedon Tabac Rouge, which has ginger.
Early points for you Glannys!
Off to London with a friend on Thursday, our annual December visit. Hoping I can manage a visit to the perfume departments in Selfridges & Liberty, & also pop in to the Fresh store & Bloom Perfumery in Covent Garden, & Penhaligon of course, but we have a packed schedule – we’re doing Lift 109 at Battersea Power Station & a tour of The Houses of Parliament, & no doubt we’ll go to a couple of Christmas markets too!
What a fun visit you have planned. Enjoy!
Thank you so much.
That sounds like a blast!
If all the years (except during the pandemic ones of course) are anything to go by, & we’ve being doing this since 1997, it most certainly will be!

Well that sounds perfect! Are you taking any perfumes with you or planning to purchase new scents for the trip?
Taking Bulgari Eau Parfumee au The Vert – 75ml size works with liquids limit (no idea why this is still a ‘thing’!) as we have hand luggage only, hence it’s also doubtful I’ll be buying anything new as liquids have to out of their packaging.
What is Lift 109?

I’m testing a recent commercial sample of ELdO Eau de Protection. It smells good, but nothing like the original 2007 ELdO Eau de Protection Rossy de Palma.

Has anyone else here tried both versions, or either? How do you like it/them?
Funny you bring this up as I was going to wear this on Friday for the CP since it contains ginger.
I am guessing mine is the newer version as I probably purchased it 2-3 years ago. Since I did not try the original, I guess I can’t answer your question. The one I have smells like a jammy rose and seems a bit gothic.
Pretty sure the sample I got from ELdO was not the 2007 version. I can’t remember when I acquired it. I rather liked what version I have/had quite a bit, but I have several dark moody rose perfumes.
Happy Monday!
I’m going with the fragrances that Fragrantica says have Ginger and that I don’t wear very often. First up: ELdO Charogne which is a spicy Lily.
Early points for you too allo!
I wore Reglisse Noire, thanks to CM8 for mentioning about it containing ginger. I don’t really pick up that note, but I love the fragrance.
Possibly another cp idea – wear your most successful blind buy. Not sure if that’s been done before?
It has been done but possibly not for a long time, I will check!
