It's Tuesday and National Cake Day. Birthdays: William Cowper, Mary Edwards Walker, Eugène Ionesco, Tina Turner, Marilynne Robinson, Elizabeth Blackburn. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm commando for a routine doctor appointment later this morning. Tea at the moment is Upton Meleng Estate Assam.
Reminder: on 11/29, pick your Black Friday poison: wear the last fragrance you bought, wear a cheap thrill, or wear a fragrance you love but refuse to buy in a full size because it's too expensive. (We've done this project several times.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Fir Branches with Golden Pinecone Teapot from Augarten ("...with intricately hand-painted pine branches and golden pinecones. Elegantly adorning the Belvedere shape, a classic Augarten pattern designed in 1735, which has a gentle scalloped rim") is $$1,251 (oh my) at Kneen & Co.
I’m wearing DSH Inner Sanctum again today since I’m wearing yesterday’s around the house sweater, which smells great. This is the perfume I bought two years ago with my mom’s gift (it’s the same amount of cash every year.) The only requirement is that it goes for something I really want and I usually get perfume but this year I need boots. It’s fun to plan on.
I like the wintery teapot! It’s difficult to find decor for winter without a holiday theme.
Just looked at the price of the teapot 😳
Yeah, seriously!!
Cute teapot! I thought it would be something affordable til I got to the end of the paragraph. Money saved. No SOTD yet. Getting my oil changed and tires rotated before we hit the road for Thanksgiving tomorrow. Craving a cotton candy comfort scent. Ralph Lauren Beyond Romance fits the bill best since it’s not a total toothache, but is at my office, so may have to go with Pink Sugar.
I wore the original Romance for years. I thought it was such a pretty scent. My mother, who died four years ago, wore it too so it would be difficult for me to wear now.
Save travels tomorrow Sapphire!
Hello.
Sotd is MMM Untitled. Beautiful green scent, like being in the middle of a forest. It’s been days since I last spritzed and do I miss it!
Cake day is fitting because I am buying a cake for mum to celebrate her successful surgery and finally being home. We are thinking black forest or carrot cake.
Such a good sign that your mother is home. I just bought a carrot cake too, maybe we will be cake twins, I don’t even have the excuse of a celebration like you but I sure enjoyed the slice I had.
Use the china
wear the dress
eat the cake…
YES!
Words to live by!💃
Glad to hear your mom’s home! I can always support either a Black Forest torte or a carrot cake…or both? 🙂
Glad your mother is home. I would gladly take either cake😊
Yay for successful surgery and maybe both cakes!?! 😉 🍒🥕
Excellent news! Enjoy the cake! 😋🍰🧁
Hope you took the advice here and got both cakes!
I’m wearing Hermann à mes Côtés, which is a favorite. I bought a 30ml bottle last year, and it’s about 1/3 gone. I know that I will probably spring for the big bottle when its gone.
I was thinking of this one…going to stop in at ELdO this weekend when I’m in Paris and was trying to think which I’d buy if I decided to buy…
My drain was removed yesterday. My skin has calmed down and there is some irritation right where the drain was but I feel so much better.
Getting our turkey today with yams and some dessert. Debating on Lyric or some Rose de Nuit for today.
Glad you got the drain removed. Hope you were able to get everything else straightened out for your time off.
So glad you are feeling better, Dawn.
What a relief – glad you are feeling better.
So glad of your good news, now you’ll have a pain-free Thanksgiving.
So glad for you, Dawn!
Glad to hear things are progressing!
Oh I’m so glad it was removed. Did they give you any tips on dealing with the skin irritation? Anyway I hope it improves soon.
Just to keep it covered, especially the first 2 or 3 days. They said that Vaseline would help with irritation.
Glad you are feeling better, Dawn. 🤗
Glad to hear that drain was removed and you are feeling better today.
Oh good news!
Tea:Earl Grey
SOTD:Journey woman
Lippy: Revlon Rum Raisin Super Lustrous Lipstick
BTW how brown is the Revlon?
It’s brown but not Toast of NY brown.
My other favorite shades are cherries in the snow and wine with everything
My mom wore Cherries in the Snow! It is a classic!
All of those lip colors look really nice.
You smell great.
I like Journey a lot
I just bought the rum raisin last night!!
lol! we are on the same lippy wavelength. Its a nice shade for fall and doesn’t break the bank
I wore it years ago in it’s first iteration.
My hair is silver now, so we will see how it goes!
I think it will look fabulous
I was just telling a friend this morning that I need a new lipstick — because I need some color with my silver hair. Wonder if I can find Revlon at one of the chemists….
Rum Raisin was gorgeous on me back in the early 2000’s. Wonder if it still is?
It’s cheap as chips if it doesn’t work out it’s not a big loss
True. It’s the time of the year I need lip protection anyway.
It may be cake day but I’ve just enjoyed the most gorgeous cranberry walnut bread from Costco. It’s not a sweet, desert bread, but a delicious whole wheat nutty, tangy bread that toasts up all crispy on the outside but remains soft and tender inside. Yum! They stock this all holiday season so I’ll have to make sure I get back to a Costco again over the next few weeks.
Digging through the sample stash last night and found an OLD dabber sample of Montalé Patchouli Leaves. So old it was a dark, dark brown with visible sediment that had separated. Gave it a good shake and wore it last night to bed. Really gorgeous, especially as it settled down. This sample is probably over 10 years old and not sure why I didn’t get a spray sample of this when I got a huge collection of Montalé 3ml sample sprays a couple of years ago. Anyway, don’t know if it’s changed or been reformulated by now, but I’ll be reapplying after my coffee. Never thought I was a huge patchouli fan but I’m really enjoying this one.
Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday week! Here’s to some warm family get togethers this Thanksgiving. 🦃

Num for both the bread and the sample.
P and Full incense are the only ones I liked but it’s true I haven’t tried all the Montale perfumes.
*PL
You’re the second person here lately to mention that Montale.
SOTD is Leather Jardin. I noticed that I really need to be careful when spraying or it becomes too overwhelming.
Getting hair colored and then coming home to make some pumpkin bars.
You smell fabulous! Leather Jardin is the perfect example of a wonderful smelling, inexpensive fragrance.
I am surprised Jo Malone would let them sell it so cheap. I suppose she doesn’t have control over that. I knew nothing about Zara before hearing about it here so not sure how the whole pricing things work.
I agree that Leather Jardin can be a big perfume! But it smells great.
As I was waiting for the Body Shop yoghurt-y cream to calm down (didn’t know peach could be such a punch in the nose), I then forgot to put any perfume on before I left the house. Am now in the fail-safe and sedate Prada iris absolue, my emergency backup perfume.
Such a great Prada.
Oh, bet that is nice over the peach!
The very last of my full bottle of All That Matters is my scent of the day.
That is a beautiful fragrance!
THUNK!
I’m excited to welcome a bottle of CdG Peppermint into the fragrance fold later today (found a great deal on a partial bottle). I’ll wear it tomorrow.
Today I’ll go with SL Fille en Aiguilles because it’s a recent purchase but a partial bottle because a FB would be too expensive and more than I need. But today it’s cold today so I definitely need it🌲
You smell wonderful! I love Fille en Aiguilles, I’m looking forward to wearing it on Christmas day. Last year I decided it will be my Christmas day scent.
What a perfect Christmas day scent. I’m going to join you!🎄🎁
Congratulations on your new coming bottle.
Thank you, Aurora! I hope it will be on the doorstep when I get home tonight.
CdG Peppermint sounds perfect for Christmas! (Yeah, I know, probably too soon!)
It is VERY minty!!!
Always nice to welcome new fragrances to the fold! 😀
Oops — that was for allo, above.
Indeed it is!😊
I’m finally getting around to trying Glannys’ layering suggestion, a spritz of Ormonde Jayne Woman with an adjacent dab of Vert d’Encens. I smell witchy & green, perfect for this overcast day and my slight grumpiness over Thanksgiving hosting/cooking duties.
Courage, how nice of you to host and cook, hope you will get some help.
I’m wearing Dior Hypnotic Poison, a very recent purchase. Today is get-lots-done day as my 1.5 year old grandson comes tomorrow morning. It will be a blast but so busy.
Today: Make the cranberry sauce, organize the dressing ingredients, make dressing for salad, make the pecan pie, make the sweet potato casserole, get ingredients for homemade pizza together (that’s tomorrow night’s dinner). Then clean bathrooms!
OMG your list is making me so tired I need a nap already!
Ha! I may take a breather eventually.
Sounds like what I am doing the next few days, but I like the cooking and baking.
I like it, too, but it’s a lot for one day!
I added another pie, too – needed a pumpkin pie.
1 and a half already!
I know. And so much fun!
Have a lovely holiday with that little one!
That sounds so fun, hectic but fun!!!
Have the best time with your grandson, and good luck getting all the cooking done!
That’s a whole lotta cooking! Enjoy the time with your grandson.
Is your HP the EdT or EdP?
I’m wearing a somewhat recent purchase, Deux Amours from the Patou Heritage Collection.
How many of those do you have now Gaynor?
I’ve been finishing samples that I’ve had for years. Sprayed Nanban on Sunday, Iris Nazarena yesterday and an unnamed sample today. The label must have come off.
It’s a smoky fragrance, quite nice but not something I would want to own.
Oooh, Iris Nazarena! Swoon.
It’s very elegant and beautiful but somehow it does not quite capture me. I also have trouble actually smelling it.
Today is Tea for Two, enjoying it’s lovely smokiness.
Glad I have a BUB of this one.
Smelling wonderful!
I’m wearing Chipmunk today. I did a little cleaning this morning but I need to get the ashes out of the fireplace, always a dusty, dirty job. In the spirit of the season I bought a can of pumpkin yesterday and I’ll make pumpkin custard in ramekins with a pecan graham cracker streusel on top. Like pie but without all the work of pie.
Oh good idea! I bought pumpkin puree yesterday too but plan on making those pumpkin cookies I posted a link to the other day. I really am enjoying Chipmunk this time of the year–it’s a perfect autumn scent.
Yes to Chipmunk and pumpkin cookies! I hope your recovery is progressing well.
The custard is the best part of pumpkin pie, IMO.
Bond No 9 and a cup of Lady Grey tea
*waves to Barqs*
Hiram Green Hyde today…returning to the line to see what I’d buy, though I just realized today he apparently doesn’t have any Parisian stockists. Anyway, not Hyde, which is an 18th-century-log-cabin-that-has-had-fires-in-it-every-day-since smoke bomb on me, and only softened slightly way into the drydown. (I like smoke, but not that much.) Probably Shangri-la is the one I’d get. But I won’t this weekend, apparently. Pretty sure it’ll be a Nicolaï purchase, but there will be some sniffing.
What fun!! I have heard relatively little about the new PdNs.
Greetings, everyone, from a person who is luxuriating in the thought of not having to clean my home for any guests and not having to cook a turkey… etc. Sorry!
My SOTD is Amouage Opus VIII which is just an incredibly beautiful perfume but it is SO HEAVY and STRONG that I wear it seldom–good thing since it’s discontinued. Yellow and white florals and amber. I am noticing more right now of its similarity to some of the perfumes I sampled (and one I bought) last December in Saudi Arabia, though I can’t pin down exactly what it is that’s the same.
At least I will be baking later today, or possibly tomorrow morning: those pumpkin cookies with salted maple frosting that I posted a link to the other day. I’ll let you know how they come out! I promised my physical therapist I would save some for her when she comes tomorrow, so that means if I make them today, I can’t eat them all. 😉
Yes, I saw those cookies and they look like they would be very tasty.
Hope your PT goes well tomorrow!
Revisiting a sample of Secret du Nil today…it’s really beautiful.🍊🍯🍨
Top notes: Bergamot, bitter orange, bitter almond
Heart notes: Orange Tree, neroli, toasted almond, honey
Base notes: Vanilla, icing sugar, cedar, musk
That does sound lovely!
I’ve been a bit MIA but I’m finally making time to comment today! I’m in Chanel Boy for the cp since it’s one of the last bottles I purchased. Even though I haven’t been commenting much, I’ve still been reading NST and doing the CPs. I’m just usually a day or two behind in reading.
With the election, events that get me out and about, stress and body aches, and my partner finally being employed again and starting a job with a commute, there’s been a lot going on. I’m hoping by the end of the year, we’ll have gotten into a new routine.
I did want to share an article about a scented art exhibit at Seattle’s National Nordic Museum. https://www.thestranger.com/arts/2024/11/20/79791337/heaven-scent
There was another scented exhibit there in 2023 that I missed, but I’m definitely going to this one! I hope the gift shop has testers of the Fischersund perfumes because I’ve been curious about the line since it launched.
Glad to see you here!
Hope things do settle down, that sounds like a lot.
And I did not even know Seattle had a National Nordic Museum! Article looks fascinating and have bookmarked to read over the holiday, thanks.
I was thinking about you today and voilà! I hope that you have some time off this weekend and in December/January to rest and regroup.
I heard about the Nordic Museum exhibit and need to get down there. They definitely had Fischersund testers the last time I was in the gift show.
You smell marvelous, by the way.
shop
That’s good to hear that the gift shop should have testers. Thanks, allo.
Unfortunately no extra time off for Thanksgiving, just the day of and the weekend. I’m planning to take some time off later in December though.
SOTD = Opula Perfumes Dulce Solis Violet
As I mentioned on my IG post, I rarely wear the same perfume twice in a row but I’ve done it with Dulce Solis Violet. There’s something in it that is making me want to wear it over and over again! My source is someone who posts here and I will let her decide if she wants to reveal this. Regardless, it is a wonderful perfume!
https://www.instagram.com/p/DC2T8I0R9Px/?igsh=MXFrZTVhNzZnNTY0cQ==
I can’t believe Thanksgiving is so late this year! My car needs an inspection and I thought I had until next week to get it done but noooooo, Monday next week is already December 2nd 😱!
In other news, I am going to an aunt’s place for Thanksgiving. My contribution is a medley of fruits. I know I shouldn’t overthink this but I did. I will buy them at Wegmans tomorrow and I just have to decide on the container. I am doing the ultimate in laziness as I will simply wash the fruit and present them as is.
Why can I not find this perfume anywhere when I google it?
Enjoy dinner at your Aunt’s! Hope the weather won’t be too horrid.
Last year Thanksgiving fell to early for me.
I had a nice breakfast with my cousin this morning. Then, like a fool I went to the grocery store. ( a fool and her money were soon parted. Lol)
I’m wearing Alien liqueur version. It is being overpowered by my gingerbread hand wash.
Yay for the cousin breakfast. How many Thierry Mugler in your collection?😉
I did a quick count. 15 plus 2 minis. Alien and it’s flankers are my most worn. I really want to try the new Angel Fantasm but it hasn’t come around here.
Thank you for counting your bottles of Mugler, Lillyjo, my biggest number of one brand are Guerlain 51, followed by Dior 18 and Chanel 17.
A hand wash that can overpower TM Alien? YIKES!
It’s bbw gingerbread bakery. I can still smell it!
I’m in Livre Blanc, both the last fragrance I purchased and a cheap thrill.
Still trying to maintain my no buy, and talked myself off the ledge yesterday. I almost purchased a bottle of Vanilla Eclat. It contains the notes of rice, vanilla and sandalwood. Right up my alley!
Oh is that the Navitus collaboration with Perfume Nest? It does sound good. Have you tried any of the collabs?
Yes, that’s the one! No I haven’t tried any other collaborations. I really like Chris, and her videos are great! She has impeccable taste.
Those Zara perfumes by Jo Malone were a perfumista steal!
The Livra Blanc is by Olivia Giacobetti and that is a steal too. I wish I would have liked it better.
It definitely was a steal! I was pretty sad about missing her Talc by IUNX. I know the Zara uses more inexpensive materials, but in my head they were sister fragrances (or probably more like distant cousins).
So that is why they are less expensive. I was wondering how these big names were doing these fragrances, but that make sense. I wonder if they “go bad” quicker than the more expensive ones.
That’s for sure! Very reasonable.
No smoothie, plums instead.
Jasmins Marzipane since this morning, it’s an all day commitment as it is insanely strong, I resisted buying a 100ml bub yesterday, my 15 and my 30ml bottles will do. Tonight I applied Brécourt Farah on other spots to avoid JM, it has a delicious date note, otherwise I remember Phaedon Dzhari with date too, I liked it too but not as much. I did some Japanese grocery shopping distraction therapy late last night to get away from perfume shopping, I already did some damage and know as of now that my low buy will be broken next quarter.
I always look forward to reading the great buys and rare finds you report.
Thank you Lil,yjo, that makes me fill better, Jalpeno is asking what I purchased so I’ll confess the latest spree here and be done with it😉
*feel
Quite curious to find out what goodies convinced you to break your Low Buy!
Well, here goes: Caron Nocturnes, 50 ml £38 splash that the nice seller decanted in a high quality spray bottle she sent me the original Caron box which doesn’t fit the spray, it’s pretty so I’ll keep it, Guerlain AA Nerolia Vetiver Harvest 125ml £43; Aveda Love oil 30ml £20, that one is a unicorn as you would say and smells wonderful; Dioressence Eau parfumée 100ml bub £41, in the turquoise bottle, this is the OG 1st version by Guy Robert incredibly strong, it has its own listing on Fragrantica; 3 bpal oils, the Smithfield ghost, 5ml £10, Yule Oatmeal and apple cider cookies and Yule New snow in the avenue £28 for both. Oils don’t count for Donatella😀.
Aurora, you really get such great deals that it still fits into the low buy category in my book. 😃
Commando today — I had an early medical appointment and then the day got away from me. Yesterday, I tested the current version of the original Poison. When it came out I had a glamorous acquaintance who wore but when I tried it, myself, I hated it on me. 30+ years later, I was curious. (Wait. Maybe closer to FORTY years later? Eek.)
Anyway, it’s a lovely scent, I enjoyed wearing it, but it’s not me. Maybe I’ll try something else tomorrow — holiday shopping is really picking up here and the SAs are quite eager to help. 🙂
The Holiday sale’s seem to have started earlier this year.
I noticed that too. Black Friday sales started some places a week ago.
The Black Friday Week sales are going like gangbusters by me.
I’ve been thunking a few lotions lately, so I started a new lotion today, and it was a rare body product FAIL for me. Especially since it’s something from Korres; their Thyme Honey Body Smoothing Milk.
On me, it is Not Good. This is my first experience with a honey scent that smells like pee. And it lasts. 😵😭
SOTD = Smell Bent TEN EdT. Metallic frankincense, anyone?
I really thought I liked Zoologist Bee for the honey, but after a few wearings the pee smell came out and I could not wear it anymore.
Yeah, that is something once noticed, you can’t unsmell it.
Oh no! Honey more often than not gives me that smell.
An unpleasant surprise for sure! 🤢
Eww.. I’ve heard that about honey. I only have had a few samples of a honey fragrance in Slow Dive. It’s more of the waxy honeycomb to me, rather than actual honey.
Nice to thunk a lotion or two! It’s one of those products that seems to multiply here so I have to consciously not buy any more for a long while.
I’d heard about honey sometimes having that “not so fresh” smell, but this is the first time I have experienced it.
Too bad and I understand what you mean as honey can be urinous indeed, fortunately Korres is not too expensive, maybe donate it.
