Niche line BeauFort London has launched Force Majeure, a new trio of fragrances marking the brand's 10th anniversary. Cape Wrath, Pyroclasm and The Grudge were "inspired by the sea areas surrounding Britain" and were developed by perfumer Euan McCall.
Cape Wrath ~ "Named after the rugged area of coastline on the most North Westerly tip of Britain, Cape Wrath pulls inspiration from this wild, treacherous seascape. The remote landmark - named after the old Norse word for ‘turning point’ has for centuries been used by sailors to safely navigate the coast of Britain, yet its treacherous waters have claimed countless vessels." With pink pepper, elemi, galbanum, angelica root, frankincense, mastic, geranium, ambergris, vetiver, ambrette, seaweed and oakmoss absolute.
Pyroclasm ~ "Inspired by the forces that created both the basalt rock formations of the ‘Giant’s Causeway’ on the coast of Northern Ireland and in neighbouring Scotland were employed in the shipyards on the banks of the Clyde. Pyroclasm (trans: broken by fire) explores the idea of the intense heat and pressure needed to create the basalt ‘rivets’ of this natural phenomenon and the similar forces involved in fastening the hulls of iron ships." With rust, black pepper, saffron, grapefruit, frankincense, elemi, mineral notes, ambergris, cade, sandalwood, vetiver, styrax, cistus and Atlas cedar.
The Grudge ~ "Inspired by the ‘white gold’ that appears occasionally on Scottish beaches and the alchemy of time & tide, The Grudge finds beauty in the unexpected: the journey of ambergris from the craw of the sperm whale, rolled on the tide, retrieved from a beach and tinctured into a bottle. A metaphor for the alchemy of presence." With wormwood, frankincense, copal, tea, seaweed, calamus, ambergris, tobacco, oud, musk, oakmoss and labdanum.
BeauFort London Cape Wrath, Pyroclasm and The Grudge are available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum.

This is reminding me of far too many makeup magazine articles, with there photos of smooshed lipsticks and crumbled eye shadows. Oh, the waste…
Yeah, there’s that.
Those names are so unattractive I would probably not wear them! Of course, I made that mistake with Malmaison (Bad House) and so didn’t sniff it until it was discontinued. Maybe I would love the Ambergris one, but I can’t imagine telling someone who asked me what I was wearing, “Oh, it’s The Grudge.” Come on people, put a little love and beauty back into the world, there us too much petty, anxiety provoking nastiness out there all ready. (Ha, i am still recovering from my cold, and am crankier than I like to be. But still, ugly names for beautifil things seems like a waste of effort.)
Oh dear, hope you feel better soon meredifay!
Oh, yes thanks, I sm over the hump and now just have residual goopy cough-the couple days of burning sinuses and muscle spasms are gone! it’s like a new lease on life!
