It's Thursday, plus National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day. Birthdays: Ruby Hurley, Albert Camus, Al Hirt, Joni Mitchell. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm out of town and in my haste to leave yesterday I totally forgot perfume. I'm in my favorite DIY lotion with ylang and sweet orange, and will be claiming zero comunity project points this week, unless anyone would like to join me in a community project on ice cream consumption. (Last night I had a scoop of Roasted Banana and a scoop of Choco Choco from Mimi's Handmade in Arlington.)
Reminder: on 11/8, for the 10th anniversary of our Friday projects, we're repeating the first one we did, way back in 2014... think of your favorite fragrance note (or one of them, if you can't narrow down), wear your favorite fragrance that features that note, and tell us about it. (Hat tip to happy888cat who noticed the anniversary! We are quite a few months late, but that's how things go around here.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello.
Robin, your ice cream sounds delicious!
Sotd is Dusita Melodie de L’Amour. Beautiful wedding bouquet floral with a touch of honey.
It was excellent ice cream…the owner roasts the bananas for 4 hours, one day I will try that at home.
I haven’t tried this one by Dusita, but it sounds very nice.
I discovered pepper notes this year and have several decants with that note. Today is Toy Boy from a mini. This is love and I need a full bottle. Yum!
Plus, way cute bottle!
Bois des Isles EDP is my scent of the day
You smell most excellent today!
You smell wonderful!
Continuing with amber today, in Memoirs of a Trespasser. It’s a gorgeous sunny day here, so this afternoon will be spent putting all the garden items away that can’t stay outside all winter. Before that, though, I plan to try a new apple-cinnamon muffin recipe. Fingers crossed!
You are smelling good Sheri!
Thanks Kris — so are the muffins!
I bet they are delicious 😋
My favorite, you smell wonderful for outdoors. Hope the muffins turn out well!
So far the muffins look and smell great — five more minutes cooling and then Mr. G and I will descend upon them like vultures! 🤣
Copying AnnieA from yesterday in VCA Bois d’Iris. I have one friend that loves it when I wear this. I will be seeing her today so thought it would be a good time to spray away.
Hope you had a great visit with your friend!
It was nice. Thanks.
Ones of my favorite notes is clove so I am wearing Coco Noir today. I feel like this one is under appreciated a bit.
That roasted banana ice cream sounds amazing.
I love Coco Noir. I may wear that tomorrow. I have the body cream too and usually apply that on my legs. It is so nice.
Chanel body products are the best, bet the cream is wonderful.
It really is.
Love the smell of cloves, but I’m not sure they like me in perfume.
I use a teeny pinch of ground cloves in my chili.
I use a teeny pinch in ham and beans! I’ll have to try it in my chili.
I have not tried that in chili. That’s a new one. May have to try that.
Fairly chilly here with a brisk breeze which requires some warming perfumes and clothes. T-Rex is all zipped up and cozy in her fleece with a full belly of kibble and cottage cheese to keep her engine running. I went for Taklamakan by SHL, from a dear and very much missed commenter here on NST. Still so thankful for her generosity!
As for the CP, I can’t pick a favorite note. Years ago I would have said vanilla but I’ve branched out since then. No fun being a one trick pony! While I can confidently say I still adore vanilla, I also love Vetiver, tobacco, incense… really anything other than shrill florals and aldehydes. If it’s clean and bright, ok by me. If it’s a truckload of skank and barnyard, that’s great too! But whatever the perfume is, it should have personality. Some perfumes remind me of the Stepford Wives- boring, generic, narrow, and afraid to ruffle anyone’s feathers. Always agreeable, always pleasant, living in fear of being found lacking or disliked by all the other Wives. Yep, I like perfumes that have a lot to say! I’m sure no one is surprised. 🙃
I’m going to spend the coming year dreaming and planning my next trip, giving the Baby T-Rex the best belly rubs possible, enjoying the birds and the trees, and just taking one day at a time because I don’t want to look too closely at reality for a little bit.
I like your plan for the year. Sounds great.
You smell great and I fully subscribe to your plan. ❤️
They always say that the best way to deal with the return to normality after the end of a holiday is to start planning the next one!
You have a destination picked out for next year already?
🇫🇷😍
SOTM is Pinrose Campfire Rebel. Can’t decide whether I like it or not. I was not familiar with the label and feared this was a clone of MMM Replica By the Fireplace, which was way too sweet for my nose. But this is an unsweet smoky campfire with a bit of rose or is it raspberry, whiskey, and agarwood/oud (can it be real?) Came out in 2014 before clones took over the marketplace, right? At least it’s not screechy screamwood). Good longevity on me but reviews of some of the others in the line raise issues with lasting power.
Oh, I love screechy screamwood! I don’t know what aroma chemical that is, at the bottom of so many new perfumes, but you have nailed the description of that smell.
An old friend, who is sailing around the country, arrived in port last night so I will go and visit him and his yacht later today. When we lived together we did some cool sailing trips, sometimes accompanied by dolphins surfing off the bow. All my trips were in sheltered sounds and around islands rather than days on the open sea, and I always liked being able to drop anchor in a sheltered bay at night rather than being tossed around on the waves. I noticed yesterday that all the peonies are now in full bloom in the gardens I walked past. Beautiful big blooms. Wearing Gris Clair …it’s grey and heavy rain coming later.
Oh, my, how interesting to hear about your sailing past. I am envious of you seeing peonies in blossom! Now there’s a flower smell worth bottling!
Those sailing trips sound really fun.
How nice to catch up with an old friend, and one you can share such memories with!
Aromatics Elixir today, because i love oakmoss and needed some perfumy backbone. my most worn scent too…
Aromatics Elixir is wonderful stuff! Have you tried the lotion?
That’s a great one for backbone! One of my favorites.
I’m wearing Rose Cherie by Guerlain from a small sample vial I found in my stash. At the moment I have no idea where it came from but I have worn this for the last three days and am feeling an urgent need for a bottle, NOW! It’s gorgeous. I am not monogamous about scent notes but know ones I like a lot. For this week’s CP I think I’ll do the ROSE because I like florals a lot but am sad that most of them simply can’t live up to the true scents of real flowers in nature. Rose perfumes seem the most successful and they are so endlessly varied! I love spicy rose, lipstick rose, dark red rose, sweet innocent pink rose, and any rose + oud combination. I have my SOTD picked out already for tomorrow.
This is goody. That’s for sure!
Thank you for the inspiration🌹It’s fun to think about a rose by any smell😊
Hi Calypso,
If you see this message and are still interested in the Amouage Gold split, please email me. Thanks!
Oh I’m very sorry I forgot! Preparing for surgery and got sidetracked.
I just wrote you!
I’m another rose fan, and I agree that rose perfumes often do actually smell like roses. I sniff every rose I see in the hope that it will have what I think of as a true rose perfume!
Love Rose Cherie and roses in general too!
Rose Cherie is beautiful. Wish Guerlain did travel sprays!!
I’m going to be in Rose too. I’m finding it very comforting🌹
Today is Perris Monte Carlo Rose de Mai.
This one sounds very nice from what I have read.
I went with mint. Guerlain AA Herba Fresca and some peppermint oil dabbed on hands. Mostly because I had a lot of work to do, and peppermint is supposed to help with concentration. Finally delivered the file and can relax.
Peppermint does help, I find! And Herba Fresca is so good. Congrats on being done 🙂
I’m commenting a bit later than usual for a weekday, because I’ve taken the day off. It’s the day I’d planned to take off work for my birthday, but four weeks late! We are also going away for the weekend for a wedding.
We were planning to be away only on Saturday night, but the accommodation was booked for both Friday and Saturday nights, so we’re making a long weekend of it. I haven’t decided yet what perfume to wear, maybe Diorling, but we’re driving, so I can throw as many perfumes as I like into the car.
We’ve just been out for breakfast, and I’m wafting Guerlain’s AA Figue-Iris again.
Yay, hope it was a fun day off and hope the wedding trip is great fun too…
I have an assortment of stuff here but no one favorite note perfume; in the overall collection I have a lot of tuberose, jasmine, sandalwood, and incense, so I will probably pick one of those for tomorrow. Today I’m wearing Goldfield & Banks Sunset Hour while putting together a new nightstand. I have been working on it for an hour, it’s about half done. Not difficult, just a lot of little fiddly parts and the directions say not to use a power tool for assembly, so hand-tightening it is.
Hand-tightening only? Yeah, that’s super fiddly.
How about a CP based on a favorite ice cream flavor (or other dessert for those who don’t like ice cream or are lactose-intolerant)?
SOTD is Angel Muse. Just felt like it.
I think we did that or something similar, but I will check, thanks Sapphire!
In lemon again today with vintage Cristalle edt. Gosh, I MUST find another bottle of this. I got this bottle from an ebay seller who turned out to live five minutes from my house. When she runs into vintage perfumes at estate sales, she lets me know first 🙂
Wow! That’s pretty neat.
What a fantastic discovery, SarahN!! And yup, vintage Cristalle edt is amazing. My mother wore it so it always reminds me of her when I smell it.
Oh, how fantastic is that!
Very awesome, having a perfume friend like that!
I’m in Orris Tattoo, continuing my week if iris based fragrances.
Nice 🙂
I’m wearing Fenty edp today because ringthing mentioned it yesterday.
I bought a few things from the Sephora sale for my daughter for Christmas. I looked around for a perfume but nothing caught my eye or nose.
I wish I could have waited for the Sephora sale, but I ran out of skincare items last week. 🥺
Traveling this week for a conference, and have been mostly commando. I brought along a sample of Sycomore and a roller ball of MCMC Mociun #2 oil. I think the MCMC would work for the CP because woody notes are some of my favorites, and this has black spruce, patchouli, and rosewood.
It’s my first time attending a conference since the pandemic, and I feel exhausted, overwhelmed, yet invigorated. It’s great to meet people and learn about new ideas I can apply to my job, but it’s also super draining. I never got much out of the online conferences though, so this is overall a good thing.
Hope you have the chance to slip away and recharge for a bit during your conference.
Chilly here today, but I got a break from the snow. I even had a few peeks of the sun late in the afternoon. Other parts of the state weren’t as lucky. Glad I went grocery shopping at the beginning of the week when the weather was pleasant.
SOTD = Belle d’Opium EdP. Patchouli is one of my favorite perfume notes. This is sweetened up with gourmand notes and a bit of jasmine.
I saw the Colorado snow on my weather. Brrr!
It’s all to the south of me. Right now my streets and sidewalks are dry as a bone. The 2 inches I had are gone.
But one of my cousins down in the Colorado Springs area has had over a foot so far. And the snow isn’t supposed to stop until Saturday.
