Welcome to the weekend and our standard-issue open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you're hoping to find in the splitmeet next weekend, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I didn’t make it here to post yesterday, but I can attest that I supported the CP with the smell of rosewater in the soap they used at the hammam I went to yesterday morning in Istanbul. Today I’m in 31 rue Cambon from my travel bag.
I’m looking forward to flying home tomorrow; it’s been a good trip but 16 days out is a long time. I have to turn Ockeghem Teen around right away to leave for a week-long school band work week at a hostel in a castle on the Rhein…sounds idyllic to me, but we’ll see what she thinks.
I’m glad to hear your trip has gone well, but it’s always good to get home 🙂 .
So glad it’s been a good trip!
Hope Ockeghem Teen loves the band work week, I think it sounds excellent.
SOTD is Ummagumma — wore it at bedtime last night and enjoyed it so much that a repeat was called for.
Plus sometimes it’s just nice to not have to pick a new scent 🙂
Commando at the moment, probably going to do Tam Dao for a “get it done calmly” sort of vibe.
We bought a new to us 22 Ford Escape Hybrid yesterday, before the old Honda CRV started spitting parts out on the road – it was making those sorts of noises.
I don’t really have new car excitement, just a sense of relief that this one will not leave me stranded on a bridge on I 94 in a snow storm in the near future… it is pretty tho, red with the light interior. The salesman tried to sell me an all black one, black inside outside wheel rims window tint. I told him I had no interest in a gangster car. He was puzzled. “That’s what it seems like to you?” I laughed, and told him since I was not transporting illegal aliens, or cooking meth in the back seat, I had no need to hide away from the world, and I wanted to let the light in. “But it helps with air conditioning,” he said. I pointed out that here in Michigan I ran air conditioning from the middle of June to the middle of September at the outside, and appreciated solar heat the other 9 months of the year. Marketing! I also told him that they needed to stop letting colorblind, depressed white men pick out the color schemes. One of the reasons I kept the Honda as long as I did is because it was cream and brown, very pretty. I want turquoise cars, and raspberry pink cars, or copper colored cars, or at least racing green with British tan interiors, not Black, White, or three shades of grey in between. Sigh. Now off for my Saturday Dump run, then a quick stop at Ulta to get some more of my favorite sunscreen of the moment, LaRoche-Posay SPF 60 face sun-screen, it absorbs, doesn’t leave streaky films, protects like crazy and never ever makes me break out. I know someone here mentioned some Korean sunscreen that is popular, but I try to keep it simple by using things I can buy locally. I have tried every single thing they carried at my local Meijers, but my skin and I are picky, and I moved on to Ulta. I am still irritated at Lancome for changing the formula of their very nice SPF30 day cream to something that gives me red rashes. How do these places stay in business? Hope everyone has a good weekend!
Also, what a great picture, Robin!
Congrats on the car! Mine (Subaru Forester) will be 12 years old next month and not that need a new car but the eyes wander 👀 …
I have been seeking more Tesla, just the regular car and most of them were black except for one I saw recently that was pink and gray.
Pink and gray can’t be original. Did it have a Mary Kay sticker on it? Back in the day, the top Mary Kay salespeople got pink Cadillacs, iirc.
From what I have been told, ANY paint color on a Tesla is an option. And you have to pay for it.
But some owners put wraps on their cars instead of painting them.
My brother still keeps in touch with some people in the auto biz, even though he quit wrenching professionally several years ago.
I saw a Tesla truck the other day and had to do a double take. I felt like I was in outer space. Very different.
I’ve seen a couple Cybertrucks in my area. They look REALLY weird….
Well THAT figures — I should have known that they would find a way to squeeze more 💵 out of people. Now that Kris mentioned cybertrucks, I do recall seeing one with a poison green paint job. 👀
I feel you on the bridge/I 94/snowstorm scenario! Agree strongly on the car color situation as well. Congrats on the new acquisition!
Lol at all you said to the salesman! I agree with it all.
I desperately need a new car but can’t get one now. I did stop just to look and the things they tell you to try and win you over are ridiculous.
ugh! my son is in need of a new car and I am amazed at how everything is SO different from when it was when both of my daughters bought their new cars! I hope things turn around eventually!
I am a big fan of LaRoche-Posay sunscreen, for all the reasons you mention here. I haven’t tried that exact one but Anthelios-50 is my daily choice. I picked up their Hydraphase moisturizer (light version) when I arrived in Galway in September and love it — and now I need more, and have discovered it’s apparently seasonal — only the rich version is in stock now.
I feel the same way about the RAV4 we just had to buy after our Highlander was totalled. No excitement, just exhaustion at going through what the car buying process is today and annoyance at having to settle for something I didn’t want. I do have to say that in Germany I’ve been seeing a lot of acid green Opels (of all things), and I really like that colour. There are also some nice reds out these days.
Congrats on the new car!! And completely agree about car colors…BORING, BORING, BORING. I am looking a new Civic Hybrid and can’t believe the color choice, it’s depressing.
Congrats on the new vehicle! I hope Tam Dao served you well in the calm department.
That was absolutely the funniest rant about buying a car. 🤣 I have the same thought about car colors, too. It’s hysterical when I’m in a large parking lot, and the rows are filled with huge SUVs in various shades of grey. Everything you mentioned makes me so happy that when we could afford a new car, I bought a MINI Cooper. No saleman necessary, until you’re ready to sign at the dotted line. You can just go online and choose the details you want. Which means you can also leave out the ones you don’t want. Fun colors, too. One year they had this gorgeous shade of metallic periwinkle! They make racing green with British tan, too, of course. The DH got a bigger SUV-style. I insisted on AWD after he endangered his life by having to drive on a Portland highway during a snowstorm. 😱
p.s. NOT affiliated. Simply a happy customer.
I had to laugh about your boring car colors rant!
Here’s the skinny on WHY so many vehicles are black, white, or grey. Those paint pigments are cheap! An OEM manufacturer will budget X amount of money for paint options on their models. Sometimes smaller cars will have bright colors available. Those pigments cost more. But a smaller car needs less paint than a truck or SUV.
It’s how manufacturers can keep their profit margins up.
Former paint chemist here.
I honestly did not know that. I thought they were just boring people coming up with the boring colors.
Blame the bean counters!
SOTD = Guerlain Rose Cherie
I was going commando as I have a haircut appointment later, but I couldn’t resist so here we are – one spritz.

For those that are in the process of choosing a Medicare health plan, here’s an article from The New York Times. I know I have been advocating for traditional Medicare and I still do.
https://www.nytimes.com/explain/2022/medicare-open-enrollment?unlocked_article_code=1.VE4.BlCj.ShqlHG1MtcLX&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare&ngrp=mnp
Love your scent.
I completely agree with you on traditional Medicare. I don’t even need to read the article. I also would mention to get a good supplement as well. My husband and I have had zero issues and unfortunately, he has had to deal with numerous surgeries recently. We have had very few out of pocket expenses.
You smell beautiful! I think I will copy you today.
i am really interested in your take on Medicare.I might reach out to you privately
Thanks for the article. I cannot wait to get on Medicare.
Thanks for the PSA, Hajusuuri. After doing research and talking with a volunteer
Medicare advisor, I chose traditional as well. I won’t offer an opinion on Advantage plans, because it would be filled with expletives.
By the way, I believe that most states offer this (free!) service through various entities. Perhaps springpansy is reading this – she knows a lot more about it than I do.
Appreciate you passing along your knowledge on Medicare! It sure helped when my brother and I were dealing with my Mom.
I’m assuming Millesime Jasmin will be well-represented in the splitmeet… or should I get a bottle to share?
I would think there would be some interest. I did get it, but don’t plan to put it in the splitmeet.
That’s one I’d definitely want a portion of if it shows up at the split meet.
Today I’m part of a book event. Eight authors each have twenty minutes to read/ talk …so it’s a long afternoon, but broken half way through with a big “ high tea” of butterfly cakes, lamingtons, scones, cucumber sandwiches etc. There’s usually about 250 people and they can buy books and chat to us…but it is a long day.
Yesterday I went to Mecca ( the Australian version of Sephora) and World to test perfumes but didn’t buy anything as I got into that brain overload of ‘ can’t be bothered’…plus every bottle was so expensive. I was really pleased to smell En Passant at last, and some newish Serge Lutens, Arquiste, Memo. I think a lot of people were wearing Santal 33 which I never smell back home. The highlight of the day was the art gallery. A billionaire New York couple, who fell in love with NZ back in the early 2000 s , gifted $200 million of their painting collection to the Auckland gallery and it was in display: lots of Impressionist, Cubist works.
Still in traces of En Passant.

A bit about the Robertson collection. Nice apartment on Central Ave.
Great article, thank you.
I would not mind having Espagnole hanging in my house, ha…
Hope it’s a great event and you get to relax later!
I hope the event goes well, and glad to hear that you’ve had the opportunity for some sniffing!
Hope the event is great success! You smell lovely in En Passant 🤍
Congrats on being invited to join the event! High tea, too! 😋
I’ll bet it makes for a long day. The article about the museum was behind a paywall for me, though. On to google I go.

Thank you!
I took my daughter to ulta today where she behaved horribly. She is now grounded. On our way to the grocery store I saw a lady selling laundry detergent on the side of the road off of a huge banquet table. It was obviously stolen. I wanted to clip the table legs with my car. I hate shoplifters. This is my day off so far, now I am off to clean the kitchen. I am going to copy hajusuuri with Rose Cherie for my sotd.
My parents live in an area which is now a hot bed for selling products that have been stolen. They live in New york city. Unfortunately, the powers that be do nothing about it and there are actually lawyers who are defending these criminals. I am with you, clip the legs!
Maybe I could get a new car out of it 😉
Shoplifting is tame compared to how people get the stolen items they sell on the street back home in Vancouver.
But then today I’m in Istanbul, which seems to be the capital of counterfeiting / copying, which also feels wrong…and I saw a “Paul Martin Canadian” clothing store, and was like, huh? Why that particular former prime minister in particular? Turns out they have multiple outlets and it’s a Paul Smith ripoff. They needed a name that sounded like Paul Smith, and stumbled on Paul Martin, which they thought sounded posh, especially as he’d been a world leader. 😀
Working retail, I see people steal daily. It just infuriates me to no end. I guess I take it personally. Lol.
That’s awful about the counterfeiting. I had a Paul Smith perfume year’s ago. I went through the whole bottle.
Sorry to hear that your day off turned out to be not so pleasant! Hope tomorrow is a much better one 🩷
Thanks. It’s improved. I went to Marshall’s and found Laura Mercier Almond Coconut perfume on sale and bought it. Lol.
I’m glad your day improved, lillyjo. With the LM Almond Coconut, can you say which note is more prominent? (Asking for a friend..lol)
I think the coconut is more dominant so far.
🤣 Glad it helped!
We ran out of nested comments; thank you for the info on the Laura Mercier. I found a fairly deal in the trio set.
Oohh.. what’s in the trio?
There’s a bar of soap, body cream (7 oz) and the edt. Seems like a ridiculously good deal.
Oh I bet the body products are awesome. Report back!
Saw tons of this in the beginning of Covid. People buying all the toilet paper, hand sanitizer amongst other things but would go into a parking lot and sell small quantities for a massive mark up. I work at a grocery store and at least once a week we catch someone attempting to steal hundreds of dollars worth of meet and or alcohol. We bust at least 80% of them. So we have the police on speed dial. I hate thieves and scalpers. Times might be tough for people but this makes it worse.
My store won’t let us stop anyone. All we can do is try and deter(?) People run out with merchandise daily. It’s disheartening.
When I moved to NJ, I heard people making comments about avoiding buying stuff that had “fallen off of a truck”. It hadn’t, of course.
Mind Games Mentor
What do you think of Mind Games? They had some hype for awhile on fragrance youtube. They seem very expensive.
I had to look it up as I have never heard of it. Very expensive.
I made a too-short trip to Tbilisi this week for work (lost one day to storm-related flight cancellations), so am taking it easy this weekend. Did some sniffing in the airport shops both outbound and on the return. I have FINALLY now smelled Coromandel! It is gorgeous, not really “me,” but the knitted hat that was sharing pocket space in my coat with the scent card still smells terrific. Also tried Comète but it didn’t register with me — would have to smell it again to have an opinion. And three Vilhelms: Smoke Show (no impression of this one — really didn’t smell like much to me), Poets of Berlin, and Dear Polly. Really liked Dear Polly.
I was CP-compliant (rose) in Róisìn Dubh on Friday. Today, Winter Palace.
And so here is an example of why I love Ireland so much: on the sold-out bus from Dublin airport to Galway, my seatmate and I talked the whole time (2.5 hours), and tomorrow Mr. Skal and I are going to her house for afternoon tea. We may not become lifelong besties, but I love the openness to conversation and building a friendship.
How lovely…hope the tea is lovely too.
I’m having a lazy start to Sunday, and just contemplating the joy of a day off tomorrow – our Labour Day.
I can still smell last night’s perfume on my clothes, Sillage Royal from Manos Gerakinis. That was a souvenir of my trip last year, and the trip next April is starting to get more real. We booked the flights a few weeks ago and are now looking at accommodation.
Later on, I’ll try to encourage better weather with Le Jardin de Monsieur Li.
Have a nice day off!
Le Jardin de Monsieur Li is always a good choice 👌
SOTD is Keiko Mecheri Loukhoum. Such a cozy pijama scent, I’m in love.
I think there’s something about rose added to gourmands- makes them so delectable and stops them from being cloying. (Gourmand Coquin, Lush Snowcake).
I would love to know if anyone else has other rose gourmand loves 🤗
Gosh, I never hear about KM these days. The obvious relative is Serge Lutens Rahat Loukoum.
Happy Saturday!
I was in Guerlain Ginger Piccante this morning, for a coffee and croissant with a dear cousin of mine. It was warm and sunny so we could sit outside. Later I went to a local perfumery and tested Kelly Caleche for the second time. I liked it better than the first time, but I am still waiting for it to impress me… I am not giving up that easy 😁
If they have Galop d’Hermes, try that one, too. 😉
Will do!
Wearing Aromatics Elixir. I have the ginormous bottle so I should keep it out for the cold months ahead.
Solid plan!
Smelling great!
PSA: 20% off at Indigo, bottles $90 or more 11thbirthday20%
but it’s not valid on Epona 😡
I was just going to post this. Lol.
LOl so frustrating!
Happy Sunday! It’s another beautiful fall day.
I’m still tweaking Cafe Intense Ristretto as it is a bit dryer and has a bitter edge that needs something. Right away I thought of patchouli but the sweet syrupy kind, so I tried a few dabs of Patchouli Leaves, since both perfumes are Montale. Very nice combo!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day.
Now that’s a combo I have to try!
Oh do, I hope you like it. The drydown is lovely.
I’ll let you know!
Sounds like you are having fun with your perfumed experiments!
I had been waiting for Black Friday sales to get Hiram Green Tryst and Arbole, but caved last night when I got Indigo Perfumery’s email. I think I will make some available in the Splitmeet, I don’t need 50 mls of anything anymore. Today I need to go outside and walk a bit. I’m wearing Cuir Cannage this morning.
Arbole is fabulous!
Trying to get some cleaning done today while not feeling all that great. Had to let my boss know that she had to let me know if my schedule was going to change 7 days in advance. I don’t drive and don’t have access to public transportation. She said that she forgot. I had to remind her that she has my cellphone number and she could text me. I work 4 hours tomorrow and 4 hours on Tuesday but everything else remains the same. I am thinking that when I had to take 2 days off a couple weeks ago, it was a passive aggressive move. Will be wearing no 5 edt today.
Sorry Dawn!
SOTD is Indochine 25. I really like this one this time of year.
You smell marvelous, Kris! Such a warm cashmere wrap of spices and woods!
Today’s choice is Cabochard EdT (vintage.) I had just put out my little bottle of the bath oil which I acquired at the last swapmeet, so I had to take AA bath and follow suit with the fragrance. My first choice would have been Ambre Russe which was a magnet that fell into my shopping cart at ZGO (on sale.) I bought it partially for the splitmeet coming up, so I’m not opening it yet. I might also be offering another little thing or two.
I did play along with the CP on Friday in Hermès Galop. Copying Robin, hehe. I keep forgetting that this one is an extrait, and it lasts forever! I am grateful that I had decided on just two tiny sprays.
Oh man. ‘a’ bath, lol!
I love Galop, too, and wore it again today to an event. I do one light spray on the nape of the neck and one into the cleavage. It does last and doesn’t change much either, which I like in this case.
Vintage Cabochard, you smell marvelous, Ann. And I am gonna steal that line: ‘the bottle was a magnet that fell into my shopping cart”
🥰
Still dabbling in my rose exploration project with Liquides Imaginaires Dom Rosa, supposedly a wine-rose but somehow it reminded me of tomato soup on first spray, so not making it into the running for full bottle.
Yesterday I tested a sample of Guidance 46 and I loved it. I can detect the rose but also has a woody/fruity thing going on and the stuff is so well-blended. But, dang, this perfume is expensive.
Another summer weather day. We are in a historic drought. I am used to watering my plants, of course, but we have had to water our trees. I am spotting dying trees on my drive to and from work and it is upsetting me and I don’t want lose any if I can help it.
Heading into another 2 week stretch of work so it can distract me from new perfume cravings for a while.
Tomato soup?? Ewwwwww.
I got V8 juice from Le Labo Ylang 49. I wonder why some perfumes read tomato-y on some of us.
This weekend I’ve been dipping into my cooler-temp plushy and comfort scents, first Astier de Villate Tucson on Saturday, then Perfumer H Suede today. Both make me feel swaddled in cashmere even if it’s not quite cold enough for that except in the earliest of mornings.
I’m excited to see what appears on the splitmeet. I would like to host some winter fragrances by Perfumer H (been nursing my samples), especially the new one, Saddle.
I hope you do host Suede! (And that I remember to log on that weekend!)
Please do host some (or one) Perfumer H perfume! I’m very interested in Saddle and plenty of others in the line.
I’m so glad there’s interest! Thank you!
I’m in Lancome Iris Dragees today. I sprayed myself probably 12 times including my shirt. I did gas myself out in the summer with this (at the same 12-ish spray level), but today it’s a nice cocoon around me.
Tomorrow I’m getting my covid and flu shots, so I’ll probably remain unscented.
Hope that your shots tomorrow don’t knock you flat!
Thank you, Jalapeno! Me too. The covid one usually hits me a bit more. I’ll get my SpongeBob SquarePants ice pak ready to apply to the injection site afterwards.
I flew home this morning and had an amazing view of the Southern Alps. It had snowed the day before yesterday and the landscape right down to the plains was mid-winter white. Such a contrast to the day I flew north when snow was only on the tops. And it will soon be November, almost-summer. Yesterday I bought a bottle of Le Jardin apres la mousson ( a BUB) …it seemed such a good deal ($230 for 100ml) compared to the prices of all the other perfumes I tested earlier in the day. My taxi ride to the airport turned up thirty minutes early this morning which meant I arrived at the airport terminal before the doors unlocked and it actually opened at 4.30am. I am usually early for flights but this was pushing it even for me
I am obsessive about arriving early for flights, usually three hours even for domestic. 😹
How wonderful to see the before and after of snow on mountains!
I’m the same. I hate feeling rushed and love watching other people
Hope. your reading (or talk?) went well Kanuka!
SOTWeekend is Vacation Classic Whip sunscreen mousse (the one that comes in the miniature “whipped cream” can). It is lightly scented, which is unusual for me. I typically get unscented bodycare and skincare products, so they don’t compete with any perfume I choose to wear. It’s actually rather pleasant.
So far, the sunscreen has been working rather well on my arms and keeps them moisturized but not greasy.
I have that sunscreen. I had to hide it because my daughter was putting way to much on because of the fun bottle. Lol.
HA!
In your heart of hearts, would you like to join her? 😁
I had to look up your sunscreen. How fun is that!
It *is* fun! But takes a little getting used to. My first attempt squirted out a bit more than I had anticipated.
Lots of Lolita Lempicka around here lately. I bought a bottle off ebay that was manufactured 8 years ago, will see how it smells. I haven’t kept up with the reformulations, and the samples i’ve gotten from fragrancenet are all good.
Been working a bunch of overtime, and realized that I can’t do it all with the current set up, so going to see about hiring a short term part time person for a few months so i can get to everything that needs to be done. Brute force is not always the way forward, lol.
Oh, hope the vintage bottle smells fantastic!
Good luck finding a decent hire.
I’m wearing vintage No. 22 which is beautiful but also leaves me hankering for the newer crisp aldehydes. I might get crazy and split a bottle😋
Hey, live it up!
Hi, everyone!! Question- has anyone tried the new Merit perfume??
Wondering what the verdict is on the street!!!!
I plan on testing it sometime this week. My sephora just got it in.
I’m starting this final week of October/first week of November in Tam Dao EDT. If any fragrance can bring peace, this is the one.
You smell so good!
I will copy you tomorrow! I need some peace …
I think we are seeing our last few days of warm weather so will go with Zara Romance d’Iris today.
Tomorrow is going to be 75 here.
We had about that temperature today so tomorrow sounds about right for your neck of the woods.
Gorgeous temps here today but cloudy most of the time. Rumor has it there might be snowflakes flying around Wednesday morning.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
They have snowstorm watches for the Black Hills. We live 350 miles east so will not get it, but the temperature is going to plummet on Wednesday.
Happy Monday, all!
I got my Covid and flu shot this weekend (one in each arm), and shockingly did not have any side effects except for an extremely sore arm on the Covid side. The flu side was only slightly tender.
SOTD is a small dab from my decant of Cuir Beluga. Slowly working on thunking this, or at least not hoarding it!
Good for you about the covid shot! Was your arm worse than kast year? Mine certainly was.
Yes, it was perhaps the worst arm pain I can remember, I could barely even lie down on that side. I was just so pleased the fever never came.
Glad to hear that the side effects from your vaccinations were rather mild this time!
I’m back to work today after a long weekend, the good thing now is that the next weekend is only four days away.
I’m wearing Palissandre d’Or from Aedes de Venustas.
That’s the spirit Gaynor!
Very productive day today, whoo hoo!
SOTD = back in Vacation Classic Whip sunscreen mousse on my arms. It’s T-shirt weather here again. Wearing Dionis Roseberry lotion on my shins, and wishing that scent wasn’t a limited edition. 😢
PSA for Robin and anyone else looking for a tomato-leaf scented candle. Target has a brand called WoodWick that has a Tomato Leaf & Basil candle which smells like the height of summer.
I bought 4 different scents from WoodWick this afternoon. 😳🤪
WoodWick has great candles. I haven’t had one for quite a while, but I really have enjoyed the cinnamon ones.
I picked up Tomato Leaf & Basil, Black Currant & Rose, Incense & Myrrh, and Lavender & Cypress.
Might have to get a second Incense & Myrrh candle.
Nice! That Incense & Myrrh sounds good. I may have to take a look at them.
I really liked the Ginger & Turmeric one as well but decided to exercise a little bit of willpower.
Aha, and I need a few things from Target! Thanks.
