Happy Almost-Friday and happy Johnny Appleseed Day! Birthdays: T. S. Eliot, Olivia Newton-John, Serena Williams. The swapmeet is still open! What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m in Sarah Jessica Parker Stash SJP.
Reminder: 9/27 will be Young(ish) Guns Friday...wear a perfume by Jérôme di Marino, Quentin Bisch, Fanny Bal or Dora Baghriche, if you have one. If you don't, see if you can think of another mainstream perfumer aged 45 or under that you can represent.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hiram Green Shangri-La for me today, again thanks to Austenfan. It’s been a week of Hiram Green for me, and so far there’s only been one that really didn’t work (Lustre). Yesterday I tried Slowdive, which is a nice honey. I’m quite liking Shangri-La today. I’m surprised at the staying power of his perfumes (again, fortunately, with the exception of Lustre).
Anyway, it’s working for a rainy fall day. I got out of the house to do some grocery shopping for dinner and work at a cafe while it stopped raining for a bit. But I came home, dropped my purchases, and needed to go back out to get a couple things the specialty groceries didn’t have, and that’s when the heavens opened up. I’m sitting here watching it absolutely pour and trying to wait it out. I live in / above the trees on the fifth floor, and the swaying is quite dramatic right now. It needs to lift soon, though, as I need to cook an early dinner before I have a 1.5 hour presentation at 7:30 p.m. (the glories of working Canadian hours in Europe).
I’m so glad you are enjoying the Hiram Greens, they had been languishing in one of my perfume cabinets for years.
Hope it stopped raining in time!
I’m wearing CdG Blackpepper today.
Love this one!
Hi everyone. Continuing with my Imaginary Authors theme, today I will wear Memoirs of a Trespasser because I’m cold. We left the windows open overnight and it was in the low 50s. Gearing up to take a shower.
Sorry for everyone in the US struggling with Hurricane Helene, what a massive storm. Hope those evacuating can get out safely.
Very nice scent!
I’m in my old friend Vanille Insensee. Another gorgeous fall day here and it’s my Friday.🍂🍁🍃
Friday twins!! Enjoy your weekend.
Smelling mighty nice today!
I thought you thunked your Vanille Insensee?
Not yet. I wonder if you’re thinking of Lea? I have about 1/3 of my 100 ml bottle left. I’d like to thunk it this winter.
No points for me (again) — I’m in Kerosene Broken Theories, by the absolutely-not-mainstream John Pegg. He might be young-ish, and he does look like a young gun (or maybe shiv!), but he’s indie for sure.
But you smelled great today 🙂
CP points – Van Cleef & Arpels Rose Rouge by Julien Rasquinet.
House twins!
Lots of great smelling people here! Musc Ravageur, which is so pretty in cooler weather. I know it’s fall cause our business has a storage building , and here come all the boats and cars that people are putting away for the winter.
Oh, you smell so fabulous.
Thank you 🙂
Wearing my one Quentin Bisch according to Fragrantica, L’Artisan Iris de Gris for the greeny green pea vine note.
That sounds a nice note for a perfume.
Today I’m wearing Ginger Biscuit from a split for comfort. Lots of comfort!
We’re hitting the road today but not going too far because of the lingering heat at lower elevations. This last week has unearthed some pretty gnarly things revolving around money that I won’t get into (I know everyone is relieved about that!). But, it leaves a bad after taste and at this point I know I wouldn’t return here. I was given the option of staying until after the first week of October, but I decided to head out.
I’m watching Helene closely. High tide this morning was 2 ft higher than normal with parts of my town already flooded and the storm is still over 300 miles off shore. This one really has me shook and I’m generally a rather phlegmatic personality type. I think I may end up going through my entire decant of Ginger Biscuit today.
Be safe out there, peeps!
I’m sorry your stay in Utah seems to end on a sour note.
Safe travels Deva!
Thanks! Like everything in life, it had its pros and cons. 🤷🏻♀️
So true – be careful driving!
Ginger Bikkie is a cuddly-blanket of a perfume.
It is! And perfect for fall. 🍂🍁
Sorry about how your job ended Deva.
Sorry for the sour note but glad you can move on free and clear! The good news is I think folks along the Gulf are taking Helene very seriously.
Ach. Sorry to hear about the money shenanigans at the end of your camping site adventures.
Time for you to ramble on!
Well shoot. That’s disappointing.
I’m wearing Lubin Idole from a sample, I can barely smell it by now.
Had an incredibly rainy day in Alsace, but as I overdid the hiking yesterday, it wasn’t that much of a problem.
Yesterday, I inadvertently ended up doing “the most dangerous hiking trail in the Vosges” (google “sentier des roches, Vosges” and you get the idea). I have a fear of heights so that didn’t help at all. Still one of the advantages of a youth being forced to spend days walking in the mountains or skiing, is that I know I can cope, somehow. I finished my walk without falling or slipping but I’m feel a bit the worse for wear today. I visited the Bibliothèque Humaniste in Sélestat, which was just great. Just one more day, and then a brief drive home.
Holy Krakatoa, Batman! I googled it and almost fell off my chair. Please tell me you didn’t go by yourself..? That one would be a big fat NOPE! for me. In fact, it would rank right up there with eating roasted insects…🤢 Hope you have a well deserved rest today.
I did go on my own, because I am an idiot. Still, there are quite a lot of people on that trail, so it didn’t feel isolated.
No, No don’t call yourself an idiot!
You were being fiesty and adventurous!
What a beautiful walk. I remember it from one of my holidays, and the lake. So nice to be out on the hills, away from the crowds. The forest must have been lovely, too. What a great day. I also had a childhood of long weekend tramps ( hiking) and it never really leaves you. Hope you have a nice rest today.
If you don’t suffer from vertigo, the walk offers some of the best views in the area. I only caught glimpses of it, too focused on not falling and just getting on with it.
I had found it in a book that didn’t mention the difficulty of it, at all. And it wasn’t indicated at the start of the trail either, which surprised me as other steep trails were labelled as difficult and not recommended during winter.
All the railing and steps were well maintained though.
The forest was lovely, would have been even better with a bit of sunshine but the leaves of some of the trees were turning yellow, so that was really pretty. My favourite bit was the top the the Hohneck, very windy but starkly beautiful.
Such a beautiful part of the world! But that trail would make me seriously nervous. The Bibliothèque Humaniste looks lovely, though — right up my alley. I’ve been a lot of places in Alsace but not Sélestat so far. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
While Sélestat is not as pretty as Strasbourg, Colmar or any of the smaller villages, that library is so worth a visit. Probably one of my favourite museums in this area.
I did a small hike through the vineyards on Tuesday and they were harvesting the grapes. By hand. It made my walk even better, that and the smell of grapes that were starting to ferment.
Uff da! Definitely not a trail for those who are afraid of heights!
I do not have a fear of heights in general, but that would have made me extremely nervous! I hope you enjoyed parts of it.
I am trying to collect partial CP points today for Jorum Studio Spiritcask, sampling today. I believe the perfumer and owner is Euan McCall and he looks very young in his photos. Spiritcask really is a delightful perfume. At first all I got was an herbal, earthy scent and now I am getting the boozy aspect and some woods. Another 2025 purchase contender . .and makes me want to visit Scotland.
I am home this week, trying to do a bunch of household tasks. I wish I could get more done but organizing, filing financials, cleaning, cooking, and exercising all add up and the day is gone before I know it. What I am really trying to get done is my requisite continuing education done but I can only concentrate so long at that so I have been spacing that out over days. And of course it has been nice and sunny every day.
Good luck getting all the tasks done! I had a huge list today and barely scraped the surface. It is going to be a busy weekend.
I am scent twins with Robin today in SJP Stash. Such a good scent, and proof that good scents don’t have to cost $$$.
Hey twin!!!
This CP has brought home to me that I have no idea how Young any of the Guns are for my collection. Upon further reflection, I don’t actually know who the Guns even are. It is fun to hear about other people’s favourite noses (of any age).
Anyway, wearing Cristalle today, to stiffen my spine for the afternoon’s travails.
You smell beautiful!
Ditto!
Cristalle is an excellent choice for spine stiffening!
Testing #3 of the new Dyptiques. Today is Lunamaris post shower.
So far, all the fam in Florida doing okay.
Glad to hear your family is good and I hope they miss the worst of it.
Also, just looked up your SOTD, which sounds lovely. Have they moved on to different packaging or is this a separate line from Dyptique?
This is their new line that recently launched. The bottles are very lovely.
So far Lunamaris seems to be like many other fragrances but will see by the time I sit down to Slow Horses again this evening.
From St. Pete – Tampa – Brooksville – Gainesville.
Gotta keep my eye on them all.
Glad everyone is ok
So far, so good.
Been doing this for the 50 + years and more since my mother and dad moved to Florida from NY.
Good to hear that your peeps are safe so far.
I’m in “Une Rose Chyprée,” one of my absolute favorites from Tauer, (along with “Lonestar Memories.”)
You smell amazing! It is one of my Tauer favorites too.
Oh, you smell wonderful! I haven’t smelled any of his recent work, but of his older creations Le Maroc pour elle, Lonestar and URC are my favourites.
Love that one — you smell fabulous!
Une Rose Chypree is a beautiful, Baroque Christmas rose of a perfume. Andy Tauer does roses SO well!
Another chilly start and flurries of snow are racing up the valley and dusting the hilltops paddocks opposite me. I went outside for a few moments and came back in, shuddering. Sunrise in twenty minutes and things should seem a bit brighter then. In the meantime wearing Dune because I can reach it from my bed, which is where I’d like to stay. Summertime daylight saving starts this weekend but I suspect this winter will drag on a bit longer.
Gosh…that is not what you look for at daylight savings.
Tried to cancel a Bath and Body Works earlier today but the package has already shipped. Now I have to wait until the package comes and go to the store to return it. It sucks that Bath and body works only gives you about an hour to cancel an order. It was an impulse purchase that I didn’t need. Wearing Shalimar for a little comfort today.
Sorry Dawn!
I’m nowhere near the CP this morning. When I was jn the shower, I was struck with a sudden thought about Madame Rochas, so that’s what I’m wearing today.
I’m nowhere near the CP either! This is my own personal least favorite CP I have ever come up with.
I’m in Paris-Venise body lotion today. It’s quite strongly scented so it’s all I need to have on for now. Maybe it’s the cool weather that’s helping this smell so good. Temps are down to 16° celcius, around 61° fahrenheit.
I hope all those in the way of hurricane are safe.
I’m a little envious of your coolth today!
It sure was a welcome change! I hope you get some cooler weather soon.
Might get a cool down late next week. But at least it isn’t stupid hot in the meantime.
SOTD is VCA Bois d’Iris.
Very elegant!
I finally caved and went to Le Labo yesterday to buy Myrrhe 55, because I couldn’t live without it. So that’s what I’m wearing today!
That is the best kind of perfume purchase. Enjoy!
Glad you picked up the Myrrhe 55! You really took a fancy to it.
Wearing Jovoy Fire at Will sample, a beautiful vanilla by Vanina Muracciole, whom I think fits the cp.
Currently stressing about the crime situation in Seattle without enough police. So I think I will go out and do some weeding to deal with the anxiety.
Weeding is a great mind-clearing activity! If I do it long enough, I see plants when I close my eyes to go to sleep that night! 🙂
I think about you and hope you keep safe Springpansy.
Such a bummer about Seattle’s crime situation. I enjoyed being able to go wandering thru Seattle when I was there in 2010 and felt safe then.
For the CP, Angel Nova edp by Quentin Bisch. I was surprised that I own or have sampled so many of his perfumes: Chloe Vanilla Panifolia, EL Radiant Mirage, Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajad, and of course the Angel Muses. I happily wear any of them. Angel Nova’s woody note is too clean to make it a love, but I like the lasting power and the sweetness that grows after a long day’s wearing. I love the bottle, too. It was hard to decide between the AN edp and the edt.
How do you like that Chloe?
I like it. It’s one of my Plato’s Closet finds. 😀 Of course the name invites comparisons with Shalimar MVP, but this is a different direction. If memory serves, it has a lighter, brighter profile a la Quentin Bisch.
I haven’t sniffed Angel Nova. I was a huge Angel Muse fan.
For my taste, the Angel Muses are better. But I do like my AN Star!
Another busy day. I had an unexpected meeting with the Principal today. Ugh.
I wore the pretty and professional smelling Chloe Lumineuse.
Uh oh. Unexpected meetings with The Principal do not sound good.
Nothing like having to go to the principal’s office…at any age. Ugh.
Second the ugh. Sorry lillyjo.
Today I’m wearing a perfume from maybe the youngest mainstream perfumer that I know of, Mackenzie Reilly. She works for IFF, and I’m in Sandalwood in Oak that she did for Scents of Wood. This is just a sample, and I’m really enjoying it today. It has a little bit of that pickle facet you get from Santal 33 and Stash (plus the Iles Formula hair products), but it’s not dominant. I find it to be a pretty smooth and nutty smelling perfume. I don’t know that I’ll seek out more when I finish this sample, but I do also like her Cypress in Oak for Scents of Wood too. I believe I got the travel spray as a freebie from pixel and gave it to my partner since it’s a touch too masculine for me to wear.
Yay!! You can have all my points for the week since I’m not taking any 🙂
Taking care of mundane tasks this afternoon, in the A/C. Denver broke a high temperature record today, with a summery 92. Autumn? We don’t need no stinking Autumn! 🥵
Goodies in the Tauer Delight Discovery set are: the new Heraud EdP, Sundowner EdP, Le Maroc Pour Elle EdP, Golestan EdP, and PHI – Une Rose de Kandahar EdP. I’ve been getting whiffs of something wonderful from the sample tin for the past couple of days now.
SOTD = Tauer Cologne du Mahgreb, from the Sample Stash. An evanescent burst of citrus and orange blossom that is gone from my scent glue skin in about 2 or 3 hours. It’s quite pretty while it’s there, though.
The Tauer sets seem like a good smelling investment.
They are around $45, with the current exchange rate. Very nice spray samples, with 1.5mL vials, so you can test a perfume more than once.
I had a big work celebration thing today and half of it was outside (work is in Littleton). I was the planner so I was running around all day. There isn’t enough perfume in the world to make me smell better tonight 😂
I heard about the moose that was on the loose in Littleton! Crazy! But it had the right idea, taking a dip in the reservoir.
sotd = L’air du Temps edt
Wearing a few dabs from a vintage splash bottle today, and it’s my mom’s 80th birthday.
This was her most worn scent when I was growing up. Smelling it always makes me nostalgic. 😍
We’re off to have a big family dinner at Mom’s favorite Chinese restaurant, one we’ve gathered at often over many decades. And I’m so hungry! 😋
Happy Birthday to your Mom!
Enjoy the bday dinner!
More birthday wishes for your Mom!
Sensuous Nude for me today. It’s an easy, comfy wear.
I am so exhausted tonight. We had a big celebration for something at work and it was for about 700 people. Events all day. I was the main person planning it all and it all went great but I’m so worn out. I am off every other Friday and thankfully tomorrow is an off Friday! I am going to lay around alllll day.
Oh and you smell good, Robin. I enjoy Stash so much.
So glad it went well though, that sounds like a lot of work! Enjoy your day of well deserved rest.
Enjoy your day off. You have definitely earned it!
Wow, big event and a very busy day for you! Enjoy the day off!
Congratulations on a successful event! You smell wonderful – I happened upon a bottle of SN years ago, and it is a favorite of mine.
