It’s Hump Day and National Red Wine Day. Birthdays: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Edward Burne Jones, Robertson Davies, Janet Frame, Rita Dove. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Frédéric Malle Carnal Flower.
Reminder: on 8/30, for the start of Labor Day Weekend in the US, wear the fragrance you think you probably wore the most — or wish you'd worn the most — for summer 2024 (or if you're in the southern hemisphere, for winter 2024).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello NST.
Just back from vacation! Hope everyone is enjoying the last sips of summer. Commando at the moment. I have been up since 5am. Thank you jet lag
Have a missed any big fragrance news?
Some potentially interesting new fragrances from Patricia de Nicolai and from Diptyque.
Oooo tell me more!
Not fragrance, but Guerlain’s released the Pucci collection
https://www.guerlain.com/us/en-us/p/rouge-g-the-customizable-ultra-care-lipstick-S000076.html
Lipstick case is appealing, but the eye quad is a puzzler (weird color combo).
loving the packaging. May have to splurge.
Welcome back!
Hope you had a great vacation!
Hi, welcome back to the fragrant fold.
Where did your travels take you this summer?
We did a road trip around Scotland. Loved the wet and cold beauty of that country. Driving on the “right side” was a bit of a challenge at first.
How lovely!
Hope you had a great time!
I did! But didn’t make it to the Scottish perfumery in Edinburgh as planned 🙁
Next time! That is, if you go back. Would you?
Welcome back! I noticed your absence and wondered what was going on.
I had almost no cell service and I was doing a lot of hiking
No worries! I’m glad to hear it was for a positive reason.
Hello.
Sotd is the glorious aldehyde queen that is Dia 40.
I am also lighting a BBW x Stranger Things Argyle’s Pineapple Pizza candle. My living room now smells like the best pizza parlour. Baked pizza dough, juicy pineapple chunks (I know what some of you are thinking, but I actually reallllly like pineapples on pizza. 😛 ) and fresh basil.
Ooh, never tried Dia 40. I’ll have to look for it!
Dia 40 YES,Pineapple on pizza though….🙈🤐🤗
Another lover of pineapple on pizza here! (Sorry J B!)
Hi all.
Wearing Cristalle to calm my nerves and feel stronger.
I have a programming project presentation in three hours, and it looks like I will have only a short 2-hour window between power outages in the evening. I asked the instructors if I can present early, plus I have a battery, and a teammate promised to take over if I am not able to present. I guess I am lucky that 6 out of 8 sessions in this course were trouble-free. This is the eighth, the final one. Deep breath.
Good luck, and I’m so very sorry that you have this extra stress on top of the more usual stress of making a class presentation. I really hope it goes well.
Good Luck!
Good luck Glannys!
I hope all goes well, Glannys!
I hope it goes well for you!
Wishing you very good luck!
Hope it goes well for you!
Hoping for a positive outcome.
Best of luck Glannys!
Good luck Glannys.
Wishing you good luck Glannys!
You seem very well prepared, 🍀.
Thank you, it went well. They let me present first, so I managed to do it before the outage.
My teammates and I wrote a recipe search program. The user enters ingredients that should be in recipes, then (optionally) the ingredients they want to exclude from the search, cuisine type (say French), calorie range. And then the program saves the list of the results in a file – with links to the recipes, number of servings, cooking time and list of ingredients. It was fun to make. The instructor said we did a great job.
I’m so glad it went well! And your project sounds really really useful and interesting!Well done!
Hugs!🤗🌹🤗
Congrats on you presentation! Wish I could have seen it. 😊
Wow, I would definitely use that search engine! It sounds so helpful, but complex to write. I’m very glad you felt good about how it went.
Congratulations on the great work! I would definitely use that site/app. A lot. 😉
Very happy to hear that your presentation went well, and that you made it before the power went out!
More congrats Glannys!
That’s great, that everything went well, and the recipe search sounds helpful.
Good luck with your presentation. I hope everything works out power-wise so you can relax and perform at your best. Congratulations on getting this far.
I’m wearing 4711 AC Pomegranate & Eucalyptus. I wish I’d worn more of these scents, since so many of them are perfect for summer.
That one does sound so nice. I wish they were easier to test.
Robin, you smell amazing.
I’m wearing the strangely compelling Myths Man from Amouage while waiting for the car to be serviced. Nice to be in something that elevates this mundane experience.😎
House twins!
What is Myths Man like?
The best description I’ve found comes from Bangkok_Hound on Instagram. He writes:
“Ashy, floral, powdery, leathery. At first sniff, this is very avant garde, but the more I smell it, it seems rather classic. I’ve always thought it could have been a Guerlain in an alternate universe.”
It’s definitely unusual, but I really like it.
Thank you!
Yes, that’s the sort of boring chore that calls for a really special fragrance!
Acqua di Parma Lily of the Valley and a cup of Irish Breakfast tea.
Always interested in a LOTV! How is this one?
Is this a new-ish release?
I didn’t know that they made a LotV. Yes, do tell!
first time wearing it yesterday. It is very soapy. Nicely made, very floral and refined.
I’m in Eau Sauvage, definitely my most-worn scent this summer. It’s a gorgeous, crisp, autumn-feeling morning here, but the forecast says temperatures are heading to the upper 90s this weekend.
You smell wonderful! Eau Sauvage is the best of the best. I didn’t wear it this summer but I get to enjoy it everyday thanks to Mr. allo💕
I so wish Mr. G could wear it, but his skin does something to fragrances that dirties them up too much. Memo Italian Leather is fantastic on him though, so I have to be content with that.
You are lucky, allo! I tried to get Mr. E to wear this, but to no avail. So I swapped with a wonderful NSTer for a decant, and now I will wear it myself from time to time.
I wanted to like Eau Savage when I tried it, but it did not like me in the slightest.
More for everyone else!
Chanel 5 L’eau – although I wear this year-round, I especially love it on a warm day after my evening shower. I wore it quite often this summer. We’ve had some very cool and rainy autumnal days recently but more warmth is coming this week and I’m happy about that. I don’t want summer to end yet.
Robin, I love the photo above. The flowers look like little dancers.
I just got an egg bottle of this! It is a happier version on No 5 to my nose, not so serious.
Agree!
You smell wonderful! I’m wearing L’eau on Friday, it’s definitely been worn a lot this summer.
I love this one, but just have not worn it that much this summer. I guess I got caught up in all the Zara fragrances I purchased.
You smell lovely🌸
While I was away I used up a lot of my Chanel samples including your SOTD
No. 5 L’Eau is indeed an excellent year-round perfume!
I didn’t get around to commenting here yesterday or reading comments, but we were scent twins! And I join you in not being ready to say goodbye to summer yet.
Amouage Ubar, in all its weird glory.
LOVE!
Me 3.
SOTD is Irisss again, just enjoying the fact that I can spray with abandon whenI feel like is! But it is cold here at the grocery store where I am drinking a flat white Ang going over my shopping list. We are in the area of no power today in Michigan, but we have put the Ford hybrid F150 with the big battery to the test, and it powered our house last night for the equivalent of 40 miles of gas ( about a gallon and a half) far less than the gas generator would have used. I am now totally sold on this pickup! We are not running the hot water heater, just essentials. Power is suppposed to come back to us at 9:00 tonight. Always something, but this is a lesser hassle!
I hope your power is on sooner, not later.
Nice backup in the form of that F150!
Iriss is lovely! Nice trick with the F150. It’s a wonder that there are electric and hybrid trucks now.
Sorry to hear about the power outage, but glad that you have a reliable backup (or two) in place!
Wearing CSP Vanille Abricot today. I’d say this small travel size 4 bottle set has made the heat of summer a bit more bearable. I still have and love my bottle of Corsica Furiosa, but these little CSP gems are just so easy and happy. I bought Vanille Abricot, Coco Figue, Vanille Banane, and Vanille Passion for a discounted price quite a while back. Also have full bottles of Amour de Cacao and Vanille Cafe.
It’s the K-Mart of the perfume world versus the Bergdorf Goodman type of perfumes, but I’m quite happy being low brow. Also, like the fact that I get positive feedback if I’m around others versus the “PU! Who’s got all that perfume on? I’m allergic to perfumes…!” 😬
Happy Hump Day!
Also, are those Fuchsias above? I remember seeing them all over Ireland when we were there…
Yep, fuschias.
I can’t spell this early!
I spelled it incorrectly until a few years ago. Somehow it just didn’t click with my brain.
It’s not how it should be spelled so it makes sense that it didn’t click 🙂
I bought some Sun Bum sun screen yesterday and it smells a lot like Vanille Banane. It’s a face stick, spf 30 .
My favorite CSP!And the only one I HAD TO HAVE in 100mls!Smelling fabulous!
Did you hear about the $100 million grant that the National Park Service received from Lilly Endowment Inc.?
No! Wow, I hope it goes to the people doing the actual work in the parks, revitalizing existing infrastructure, and increased conservation efforts but let’s face it, it probably won’t.
SOTD is Zara Romance d’Iris today. I went to the chiropractor today so thought I better wear something inoffensive. It is to me at least😉
Better to be safe than sorry with perfume & office visits.
I’ve never had any comments at a clinic, but about the time I say that I suppose it will happen some day.
Murphy’s Perfume Law!
🤣
I went to a cool event/ exhibition opening marking the 100th anniversary of Janet Frame, born 1924. All her archives were left to the university here, so there is a lot of material. Frame liked books, and the exhibition centres on her bookshelves. At one point she had 22 in her house. Her houses were very modest, always, so it’s quite something to imagine and see photos of her working space. A hugely talented writer, across so many genres. Wearing Ostara for her, as I’m pretty certain she would have some daffodils flowering in her garden or in a jar in her table at this time of year.
https://unescomow.nz/inscription/janet-frame-literary-and-personal-papers
Her work has just entered the UNESCO Memory of the World, and you can see a nice photo of her at her desk in this link
Nice, thank you!
Whenever I read the name Janet Frame, I always think of you.
She was particularly brave I think and I loved her autobiography.
You smell great btw.
I know you love books, and while I was away I visited an interesting library in Glasgow.
https://womenslibrary.org.uk
That’s very cool. Thanks for the link
I was also admiring today’s photo. My mother had always had a few fuchsias in the garden, so I’ve always been familiar with them, but I was reflecting on just how stunning those flowers would be if I hadn’t seen a fuchsia before.
Inspired by the picture of flowers, I’m wearing Scherrer 2 today.
I grew them very successfully in SoCal, much less successfully in PA…hard to find the perfect spot for them here.
Thierry Mugler Miroir de Majestes.
I would love to wear this more often, but the bottle I have is so precious to me,plus a little goes a very long way all day! It’s a favorite amber for sure!
XO’s
You must smell good! I haven’t tried that one..
Fresh strawberries.
I chose vintage l’Air du temps EDP this morning, the golden canister is very beautiful and preserved the scent so well while my EDT is not off exactly but it’s a little wan. Tonight it’s AC Bois Blonds, Avery calming scent which was languishing at the back of the cabinet.
l’Air du temps is a beautiful classic, you smell(ed) lovely. My first time trying it was when a friend purchased it on a flight over to Spain (at the time you could buy duty-free on planes). I love it when fragrances get mentioned and it brings back instant memories.
Glad it made you remember a happy occasion, it is indeed such a lovely scent.
I had some dried strawberries as a late afternoon snack today. Time to see if any really good fresh ones are in the stores here.
Do tell if you find some, it’s full season here.
I’m giving my Le Labo samples more of a run today. I started off the day with liberal sprays of the new City Exclusive, Coriandre 39. As I mentioned yesterday it goes on VERY green and juicy. Within a short while it morphs into something more mild and a bit minty, but in creeps an increasingly obnoxious aquatic note. That finally made it a scrubber for me after a few hours. Now I am wearing Myrrhe 55 which I think is going to be what I buy this time (while they’re available in stores). I find it quite beautiful; it’s delicate. Be sure to sample before purchasing, it’s unusual and I don’t think it really smells much like myrrh. Jasmine and musk and something that gives it, to me, a toasty note (is that ambergris?). It is not heavy or overpowering, but it has very good lasting power.
I thank you for taking care of my curiosity about Coriandre!
SOTD = and Fragrance Bean
🫘 lovely and yes, I should wear this more often!

And apropos of nothing except for the upcoming Apple extravaganza coming up in about 2 weeks, there are new products to gawk at. I don’t usually buy anything new in the market and this will not be an exception, but for what it’s worth, I am curious about how A.I. will be featured as an enhancement!

How does that bottle feel? Is it nice to hold?
It’s very nice to hold; however, this was the one that suffered leakage so lucky to have it as it normally should have been returned!
Ruh roh!
Glad you have it anyway.
Summer isn’t quite ready to give up here. Getting nice temps right around 90 for the next few days. Haven’t really seen any leaves changing yet.
Still working on getting that rash to go away, so I decided to get a little creative with wearing perfume. I sprayed in a location I normally don’t. It was a little awkward, but it seemed to work.
SOTD = Smell Bent Pepper Ylang. This was definitely one of my most worn perfumes for Summer 2024.
What about just spraying onto clothing?
I’ve noticed that a lot of perfumes I have smell different on fabric than they do on me. Not as much evolution.
I just need to switch up my perfume-wearing spots, I think. Blasting the same area over and over again doesn’t seem to be sustainable now.
It’s still hot here but the leaves are turning anyway.
Did the new perfume spot develop any irritation?
Nope, no irritation in the new spot. I sprayed the small of my back.
Wow, I think I could do that and call it yoga lol. That would be tricky.
Too hot here and the humidity! Hopefully these will go away in a day’s time! As for spraying, I just spray and walk into the mist …
You and lillyjo are under a humungous heat dome, from what I have heard. But cooler weather is on the way for you all.
Today it’s 4711 Litchi and White Mint. This was a new and welcome discovery for me, as it is the opposite of what I usually gravitate towards. But I love it! Not too sweet and very refreshing in the heat. Of which we’ve had more today.
Seasonal temps to return soon!
p.s. PriscillaE, was it you who mentioned this to me? If so, I present you with a shiny, new, enabler pin! 🌟
YSL Rive Gauche – where has this been my whole summer??? I’ve fallen in love again.
Is yours a recent version?
I probably bought it about 5 years ago.
You smell fantastic!
What a lovely perfume, you smell wonderful!
Last night I received 2 purchase alerts regarding my credit card. Ugh.. I was able to cancel immediately and will get the amount refunded but I am still distressed. In other great news I have an 8 o’clock dentist appointment in the morning for 2 fillings ( I obviously don’t know how to make a decent hour appointment)
Today I wore Chloe Lumineuse for work. I love this perfume and am already starting to hoard it.
Oh some good news.. I just got back from the grocery store and stocked up on $1.97 a pound hamburger. It’s the little things that make me happy. Lol.
Don’t hoard and congrats on the $1.97 / lb hamburger!
Look at it this way: you are getting the worst part of your day (the dentist appt & fillings) out of the way quickly.
And that price for hamburger can’t be beat!
Good luck at the dentist.
SOTD is Zoologist Squid. Still getting back into enjoying my collection, not remembering to spray anything until the end of my work day.
12-hour day today. Sigh. This is what my last 2 weeks will be like before my vacation. I’ll pay for it on the front end and the back end. 😔😫
