We're more than halfway through August, and we're trying to stay in the moment with our standard open thread poll.
Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the last perfume you decided not to try after reading something in a poll here or elsewhere, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Third Saturday in a row I’ve swung by the Lush in the mall to see if they ever got those limited-edition body sprays, third week in a row of nothing. (I could ask the staff, I suppose, but they generally don’t know anything, no fault of theirs, plus I try to avoid them — they swoop down like vultures, again no fault of theirs.) I’m not going to order any of them online without trying it first, so I guess it wasn’t meant to be.
Today I’m in Fragonard Eau du Séducteur, a silly name for quite a nice scent.
Yeah, they do swoop in like vultures. My Lush store is tiny and I avoid it for that very reason. ☹️
I stand outside the door and ask for a container of Sleepy lotion.
To go inside guarantees a headache for the remainder of the day.
**whispers”* I can’t shop in Lush stores at all, the wall of scent gives me a headache, too! 😆
I completely understand. Bath and Body Works, same.
They do swoop in and I politely just say I will ask for help when I need it. I’m hoping I’ll find an errant bottle of Sticky Dates body spray …
The samples I ordered from Luckyscent came, and I wore Epona yesterday afternoon. It is spicy, floral, leathery in a refined uni-sexy way, and while I was not immediately fascinated, I did keep smelling my hand. I want to try something else today, but I am looking forward to giving it a full day test ride. (Ha, see what I did there? Epona, horse, ride…oh, I am so witty right after my first cup of coffee!) I expect that Epona will be a good fall/winter candidate – it does seem to have some heft to it, if you know what I mean, and just thinking about this now, I want to go smell it again. I think it will grow on me. But today, I will try some one of the several iris-forward samples I got. I sniffed them all, and yep, iris. Afraid Iris Makilan (sp??) is a no go- I felt that I detected the dreaded, to me, hint of allergy trigger tobacco, but we will see. I also am out of night cream, and since Google became a pay for play shopping aggregator, it is almost useless for doing the sort of product reviews I used to waste time ( 🙂 ) doing. Anyone have a super-favorite night cream good for “mature” skin, fine lines, dark spots, general “looking brighter, feeling plump and refreshed in the morning” product? I have been using a Philosophy product, which is pretty effective on skin, but migrates into my eyes and makes them burn, so I am ready to move on. I used one of the Lancome ones for years, until that dreadful reformulation a year or so ago – I was one of the people who thought it smelled terrible and got red blotches for my money. I now won’t buy anything without smelling it first!
I highly recommend Paula’s Choice moisturizers and currently use her Skin Recovery Replenishing Moisturizer at night. (My skin is dry and has fine lines but no deep wrinkles … yet.) Her line is mostly online sales, although I think some of her stuff might have an in-store presence. There are many, many moisturizer products in her line, some of which might suit your skin better, and she does samples of nearly everything, so you can read and experiment before committing. Good luck with the search!
I have seen that brand. I will check it out. Thank you for the recommendation. It gives me a place to start!
Thank you so much for the Epona update! I’m looking forward to trying it but last I heard it was sold out here in the US.
As far as skin concerns go I second SheriG above. PC has affordable efficacious skin care. As for the dark spots, you will something to specifically target them (like a Vit C or other specialty ingredient) but nothing will work unless you wear a high SPF religiously. PC has a great combo moisturizer, SPF 50, with other added skin care ingredients. I’ve used it for years and only stopped because I was looking for a tinted sunscreen, then fell down the K-Beauty rabbit hole. The website can be a bit overwhelming but you can look up products based on you specific skin issues, which will bring up a host of products to target it. Will also add some type of retinol is a must, especially as we age. Too much info, I’m sure but WHOOP, there it is! 🤣
OH, thanks, Deva. I remember you discussing some of the Korean stuff. I had a Taiwanese co-worker for a while, who was so sweet – she would bring me samples of stuff she used because she perceived me to be not nearly concerned enough about the state of my skin! Her skin, of course, was immaculate. But the things she gave me are unavailable here in the states, and I have no idea how to find any of them on-line – language barrier and what not. Do you have any Korean products that you could suggest I try?I am willing to explore. Sorry for sidetracking this discussion, Robin!
Tons of K-Beauty stuff available here now. Some in very mainstream stores like Ulta and some online at sites like YesStyle. One of the best ways to decide where to start is to watch some Derm recommended skin care for your specific skin issue. If they’re just pushing their own brand, skip it. You want objective educated opinions. There are many Derm MD’s on YouTube and instagram that will review a certain product, a line in general, or focus on a specific skin problem and talk about various products and therapies. It’s time consuming, yes, but it’s better than wasting a bunch of money on products that are 100% hype and 0% science. Plus you’re educating yourself which is precedes! Most high end skin care is a waste of money and you’re paying for the name. IE: la mer skin care is exorbitantly priced and most MD’s will say it’s a complete waste due to lack of active ingredients or that these ingredients are at the tail end of the list and therefore useless.
I linked 3 videos below from derm MD’s on the subject of dark spots. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
Also, sorry Robin!

You can find Korean and all other types of Asian products including skincare at YesStyle.com. I got this info from Deva. Right now I’m just trying some out and so am not sure how effective they are, but I can definitely say I love the sunscreen from Beauty of Joseon. It’s SPF 50 and it’s very light and blends in easily, and does not make my face feel like it’s wearing plastic wrap the way most other SPF creams do. Not expensive, either. If you order from them it can take some time, just be advised.
Beauty iof Joseon sunscreen rocks.
Ooh, skincare! One of my favorite topics. My very favorite night cream ever is Kate Somerville K8 peptide, but ouch the price is crazy. I just finished Oskia bedtime beauty boost and liked that quite a bit. More affordable options I’ve liked are Super Healthy Skin Ultimate Anti-Aging cream from Beauty Pie and Moisture Surge Intense 72-Hour lipid replenishing hydrator from Clinique. Also, my favorite skin care guru Caroline Hirons has her own line- Skin Rocks which has a moisturizer that is very nice and a rich moisturizer- that one I haven’t tried but plan on it this winter when dry season sets in.
Very cool, thanks. I have seen Kate Somerville mentioned. I will check it out. Also the Clinique. I have used some Clinique in the past. That Moisture Surge sounds vaguely familiar – is it the pink hyaluronic acid one? I appreciate the info!
It’s this one:
https://www.clinique.com/product/1687/79628/skincare/moisturizers/moisture-surgetm-intense-72h-lipid-replenishing-hydrator
It has more of a traditional “lotion” like texture than the original one which is more of a gel.
Ah, I bet I had the gel one. I will look for the lotion. Clinique is trustworthy for my skin.
Iris Malikhan didn’t work for me either. There was something in it that turned on my skin. Usually, it would be a type of musk, but I don’t see that musk is in it.
I swear by Clinique as I have used it for years. They have products for all skin types. I would definitely check into that line.
Agree. Their dramatically different moisturizing lotion is my one holy grail skin product. I like to dabble in different cleansers, serums and night moisturizers, but I’ve been using that lotion everyday for over 35 years and it has never failed me.
I’m an Estee Lauder kind of gal (besides La Mer). I use the Night Repair serum and I believe there’s a matching face moisturizer which I have never used.
Ah, I think my sister uses that line! Thanks!
That’s all my mother ever used.
Old lady here, with dry skin and fine lines, love the products from Biossance. Not too pricey, good on my sensitive skin, and available in large sample size variety packs so you can try out different items. I love the oils (not greasy) and the eye creams. Also, the straight up squaline oil really helped heal a surgery scar. Good luck!
Not familiar with this line, I will look for it!
I wore Agar Ébène late yesterday and was reminded how much I love it, so I’m back in it this morning.
You smell lovely. 😊 I l have a sample of AE somewhere, I must rummage in the perfume cupboard until I find it.
I’m wearing No 5 L’Eau for it’s sheer prettiness today. I found a great deal online for a mini of vintage Coco parfum that’s being delivered today, that should make an easy transition.
And I’m just about giving up on losing the last 10 pounds. I’ve been in a plateau for months and really, I’ve met my goals except reaching that magical number, so the total lost is at 90lbs. I’m ok with that.
Congratulations on your accomplishment! As for the 10 pounds, if you look in the mirror and like what you see (using the eye of objectivity and not the eye of self criticism), I wouldn’t worry about it.
This weight loss started with my daughter, who gave me a talking to about my health. I was pre diabetic and my joints have all taken a beating. Now my A1C is normal and I can walk! More important than looks, to me. At my age, my birthday suit looks like a deflated balloon lol so who cares.
Your daughter is so proud of you, I’m sure. Having a normal A1C is golden! And who can put a price on feeling better and increased mobility? You’re the Queen and here’s your crown! 👑
Huge congrats, blood sugar is so much more important than how much you weigh.
Plus, 90 pounds! That is just amazing.
You smell great and nice find on the Coco.👍
Wow, ringthing, that is incredible! Good for you! If you have plateaued and you’re okay with it, it may be your body telling you that’s the weight it wants to be at.😊
The Coco smells amazing!
That is a big achievement. Congratulations! Give the body a chance to get used to this new normal, and you can worry about the last 10 pounds later!
I have been considering some No 5 L’Eau instead of replacing my original No 5, as I am close to thunking that bottle. I don’t have to go sit in meetings anymore, so maybe I don’t need the original any more… 🙂
I love the original No 5 and L’Eau, and Eau Premiere…..they’re all good!
Wow! That is super. 90 pounds is a lot of weight to lose so be proud of yourself.
Congratulations! you should be proud of what you have achieved. Every body is different, and maybe you are just where you need to be.
Congratulations on the weight loss and the Coco!
This is amazing, ringthing. Well-done!
You are amazing!!!! You have basically lost almost my entire body and I applaud you for this! Don’t sweat the last ten pounds. You are exactly where you need to be.
Congratulations, ringthing! That is an incredible accomplishment. Good for you on being proactive about your health!
I’m in Prada Un Chant d’ Amour from my newly arrived bottle. It smells just as lovely as I remember. The box reads Tester so maybe that’s why I got such a good deal. Regardless, it was about one fifth of what it retails for so I am extremely pleased I found it.
It’s overcast but my daughter and I were up and to the farmers market anyway. Yesterday we did her back to school, or more appropriately, off to college shopping. I’m really enjoying having her home.☺️ I love coming home to a not empty house and having dinner together as a family. Last night she airplayed her phone to the tv and gave us a slideshow of her favorites from the 2 months she spent working at camp. She had such a good time. I’m so happy for her to have these experiences. I do have just a little bit of fomo, and earlier this week I told her I was tempted to just quit my job in the spring and spend my summer as camp nurse. Her immediate response was “god mom, no! That would actually really suck!” 🤣 okay, fair enough, point taken. I’m keeping it as my “retirement” plan though.
house twins! 👋😊 Thanks to you and your daughter for making me lol. 😅 Yesterday I showed up at my daughter’s work place to do some shopping, she looked half thrilled to see me, the other half was pure horror.
Lol. I actually laughed out loud when she said it, I have to appreciate her honesty.😂
Good to see you posting house twin!🙌
Your daughter’s reply is hilarious!🤣
😂 and it was an instant response. She didn’t even have to think about it.
Maison Margiela On a date is my choice for today!Cheerful fruity rose, fun and easy to wear.
Iris Palladium from Les eaux Primordiales finally arrved here, eager to go and test it out, possibly tomorrow.
I also recently smelled Prada’s Paradoxe, and I keep thinking about it so I shall revisit asap!
Happy weekend!
XO’s
I really should sample Paradoxe again. I tried it once but not on skin.
I need to do as well, there was something-something in it that defo warrants another sniff!🤷🏼♂️😉🤣

I’m still commando and am not sure what I’ll put on after my shower. Today is my birthday! and later on I’ll be going out with a friend who also has an August birthday. We always celebrate together and plan on going to a very nice Italian restaurant. I’ve been feeling a bit down since my family is basically gone now after my brother’s death, and I would often go to spend time around my birthday up in Michigan to go out with him, his wife, and my parents for a fun fish dinner. And my mom would make me key lime pie–my favorite! But, things change, and we go on as best we can.
Happy Birthday Calypso!🎉
Sorry you’ve been feeling down and missing your brother, I can certainly understand that. I hope you can have fun celebrating with your friend!
Happy Birthday!
Hope you have a good day and an awesome year!🌹🤗
Happy birthday to you!!

Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Happy Italian food with friends, hope you can rustle up some key lime pie somewhere!

Happy birthday Calypso. I hope you have a day filled with joy and happy memories of your family, and a great dinner. Here’s to a new year!
I hope you have a good day, in spite of missing family!
Happy birthday! It is very human and natural to miss loved ones and the rituals you shared with them.
And I just saw your insta – it looks like you had a good time with your friend Lynn.
A Very Happy Birthday to you, Calypso!💐💐💐
A belated happy birthday. Hope you will find new joys to celebrate, in time.
Happy birthday, belatedly! I hope you had a nice time with your friend. I saw pictures of your meal on Instagram, and it looked delicious.
SOTD appears to be orange oil, as I’ve been oiling the woodwork in the camper this morning. About 90% done but taking a cool down break right now. Yesterday I started washing and waxing the outside of the camper and truck (a HUGE undertaking!) but only got about 25% done before the sun became murderous. I’m trying to work WITH the sun by staying in areas that happen to be in the shade as the sun treks along, but the sun is NOT cooperating! So much sunshine all the time is really a PITA. (Said only me, ever!)
Also, the beading circle has now enlarged and another lady has joined us. I will admit that having people come to my camper during my off time and knock, knock, knocking to ask me something about whatever or just walking in is slightly annoying. I like clearly delineated social and private time with good solid boundaries. I guess some would consider me a *biotch.* 🤷🏻♀️ As mentioned before, one of these lovely ladies has beginning stages of dementia and I’m constantly repeating, repeating, repeating everything, which is tiring. Thankfully, the other lady has full faculties and has been very crafty her whole life, so I can start her off and then she flies. I have a sneaky suspicion the the forgetful lady is subconsciously upset because I invited another participant. Sometimes you just can’t win.
Anyway will probably go with Shalimar Body Creme after a shower.
Happy weekend to all and please, take all my sunshine away! 😅
You don’t even have to ask twice. Yes, please, give me all of the sunshine!🌞
I can understand your annoyance. I worked on my old unit for almost 15 years and they had their own Facebook page and I got lots of peer pressure that I just had! to get on Facebook and join. I was like, nope, I’m good. Work is work and life is life. I like those solid boundaries also.
I’m sending it all 🌞 to you, overnight express!
Sending you my UK weather but it’s actually lovely today.
I’ll take it! I love lovely, but not a fan of feeling like I’m in an incinerator. 🔥
I also think Sun is a PITA and I only like it when I do.
For the beading circle friend who is in the early stages of dementia, what can you do to encourage her to seek help?
Oh, I don’t think that’s my responsibility at all. She has a husband who does everything so apparently they have found a way to work through this and remain independent, functioning and safe. I have no clue if she’s even been diagnosed by an MD, but being a nurse and working with all ages, newborn to geriatric for 30+ years, I’d confidently say she’s in the early stages of dementia. But, it’s certainly not my place to bring the subject up to either of them.
A lovely 24C day and eating two nectarines. Today I picked Baiser volé edt and enjoyed it, I’m halfway through my 50ml bottle and it’s discontinued, I also have the essence but it’s a vanilla bomb best in winter, also discontinued, maybe when the edt is finished I will get the edp. Tonight it’s Jean-Louis Scherrer edp which I should wear more often.
I have not had a nectarine all summer, I should do something about that before it is too late 🙂
They’re delicious at the moment, and you can choose between yellow and white too.
Have I mentioned how delicious it is to not have an alarm clock wake up? This retirement thing has its benefits.
SOTD is Chloe Vanilla Planifolia.
Retirement rocks.!
why yes, yes it does.
How do you like your sotd?
Two sprays are enough. It has a spiciness to it that drew me to purchase it.
Happy you’re happy! 🙂
thank you Deva!
You smell wonderful! When I retired, I moved the alarm clock off my bedside table. It was a loyal “co-worker,” but one I don’t want to see every day anymore! 🙂
Amen to that!
sotd = infusion d’amande
Easy to enjoy, always makes me smile. 😊
Feeling very lazy today.
To encourage rest and downtime this summer I’ve watched The Extraordinary Attorney Woo. I have one episode left and will watch it this afternoon.
What should I watch next? 📺
The house will be empty save for me and a sweet doggy companion. Maybe TV time will turn into nap time. 😴
Have a wonderful weekend frag friends!
You smell great!
The Extraordinary Attorney Woo is fantastic. If you like paranormal, Wednesday is good!
thank u! 😊 I love amande.
Wednesday has been on my watchlist for a while, good idea to get started watching. 👻😳
yes Ms. Woo is interesting!
Thr quirky gene runs deep in my family, so I am really enthralled with Attorneys Woo. 😊
Infusion d’Amande is so lovely.
💖😁
A few more Netflix recommendations:
– The Good Place
– Loudermilk
– Tacoma PD
– Atypical
thank you, hajusuuri! I think Atypical will be a good follow up to Extraordinary Attorney Woo. 😁
If you want to watch more k-dramas there are MANY excellent ones out there! Warning, it’s a big rabbit hole! I would recommend the recent drama Queen of Tears. It’s on Netflix also and is full of romance, some sadness, terrific characters, and lots of hilarious scenes. Oh, and the main villain(ness) is someone you love to hate!
oooh, I love a good villain(ess)! Thank you, Calypso! 😅
SOTD = Tom Ford Vert de Fleur
💚💚💚 Love and I really should just wear this more often!

In other news, I knew August was a month of news subscription renewal. I managed to unsubscribe from the auto renewal for Barrons, which I only read perhaps 10-15% of the time and even at $1 per issue, it was not worth it. The Wall Street Journal was quite expensive at $235-ish, but I held off on unsubscribing because I still have until early September to do so. My big surprise was for the New York Times which went from $5 per week to … take a guess … $2 per week! I had to have the CSR repeat this again as I never would have thought. Anyway, $2 per week ALSO got me unfettered access to games (did not think I had to pay for it), Cooking, Athletics and Wirecutter! I thought I won the lottery. With the $52 and the $156, I almost have enough to pay for another full year of WSJ!
After a series of Trump positive, Democrat bashing articles, I saw people writing letters to the editor explaining in detail why they were unsubscribing. Then my renewal price dropped also, Not to be political, but now I write letters to the editor critiquing the journalism. It’s fun. Once in a while one of the reporters responds.
When The NY Times had the Ethicist, I wrote with a question and it got published (answer was supply / demand way before surge pricing was even invented). I also wrote several tips related to career and commuting which were also published.
My local newspaper delivery is silly crazy expensive. Now is miss NYT more than ever. 📰
The crazy delivery is what finally encouraged me to go all digital. It also helped with a much diminished volume of garbage.
I recently subscribed to the NYT. I had resisted for the longest time not because I thought it was expensive but I feel I am drowned in information already. I have to say, I think it is quite worth it for the cooking alone. I love the cooking app in which one can mark recipes for the future. Of course, the news is good also and the news app is better organized than the one for my local paper.
I converted my local paper to an online subscription except weekends when an actual paper is delivered. Most weekdays, no one was reading the paper and it would get recycled at the end of the week. I do like a local paper to keep abreast of local news. At work, I find I am about the only one who reads the paper.
Oh yay, another NY Times subscriber! I don’t usually go to the Cooking section because I always get stopped but now I can. My life has not changed much but I am trying to easy fewer processed foods although not succeeding much yet for now.
Borned and raised in NYC, I can still remember my dad getting into the station wagon and going to get a copy on Saturday nights. There was nothing better than that thick paper waiting to be taken apart.
I still read NYT all the every day and write letters all the time.
I am sampling Pelargonium by Aedes. It’s awfully savory on me, I get a load of clary sage. It’s going in the “no” pile. Today I am missing having a dog; Nima died nearly four years ago and I travel too much right now to have another. But someday…
I too, miss my doggies. Then my sister tells me about the latest escapade at her house and that puts my doggie yearning on hold for a while. A couple days ago, right before she had to help guide a tour through some local ranches, one of her dogs got skunked and ran into the house, tore around through every room, throwing up everywhere, before they could catch him. The people on the tour commented. Her house still smells. She has scheduled a profession carpet cleaner to come in and do something to help- all her carpets were replaced this spring. Just saying.
Oh, I know…I would not want to go through a puppyhood again, Nima tried to eat the siding off the house.
Mostly by default, all our doggies have been adults when we got them. Our realtor got us our first dog (I sold you a house, now how about a dog my friend has to give up to go with it?). Then my father in law (this dog followed me home as I walked with my dog, do you want her or else I’ll take to the shelter?). And the last 2 were acquired after seeing videos of languishing pooches in shelters sent to me by my sister and a friend. Their past can be a mystery, but they’ve all been wonderful and we’ve skipped those troublesome first months/year, though there has definitely been some digging, chewing, getting skunked, etc. Same with our cats — all adults, which we are told are harder to find homes for. Our last cat passed away at 16 this year. Big orange tabby, a female, which is unusual for the gingers who are usually male. There may be a new adult orange cat in our future.
Orange cats are the best!
Yes, senior cats usually don’t get adopted. Which is why my two daughters adopted three who now live with us. They are my world and I love them to bits
T-Rex sends her love! 🐕❤️
Thanks! I miss wiggly kisses!
I’ve been sniffing my way through my latest batch of samples from Luckyscent. I ordered them as soon as I saw Epona arrive. I’ll test it further, but I think it’s a little too leathery and smoky for me.
I also included Gallivant Bukhara. It’s a nice iris and, on first sniff, I can see the similarities with Iris Silver Mist that people have noted on Fragrantica.
I enjoy Bukhara. Not too heavy, not too light, not too sweet.
I have the day off today but feeling pretty stinko. I’ve just been overwhelmed with stuff. My car made an awful noise today so that just piled on top.
I did manage to get to the mall and sample the new LVEB flanker. If you like raspberry, this has a ton of it. I also smell the leather underneath. I do not smell any of the original LVEB in this. I will re sample on another day when I am feeling better.
I hope you are feeling better today, lillyjo.
Thank you foxbins, I am.
I’m so sorry that life is piling up on you, lillyjo. I hope you had a good night’s sleep and feel better today. Hugs
Thanks ringthing. I had to get up early for work but I got to take my stinko out there. Lol.
I hope you feel better, lillyjo. Thanks for the rec on the new LVEB flanker.
Thanks hajusuuri. After the drydown came, I realized it was reminding me of Tuscan Leather but with 10 times the raspberry. I prefer the Iris Absolue.
Ugh. I hope the “stinko” hightailed it out of your life and you’re feeling better. Here’s something to cheer you up:
https://www.instagram.com/reel/C-EQIrDNdrI/?igsh=MWJsaXBiM3o1Y3Bzbg==
LOL 🤣
Lol! I have naturally BIG hair so I resisted the aquanet styles. At one point I tried the Joan Jett hair. Didn’t work, but I wore my eyeliner like her until I turned 50. Lol.
ZOMG! Never saw any hair that big IRL!
Lololol this truly cracked me up.
stinko
great word choice, lillyjo.
it is what it is.
Thanks apsara. It’s one of my favorite words. It’s like stinky but more defeated. Lol.
Bummed to hear that your day off was stinko, friend. 🥹
Thanks friend 😊🤘
My SOTD is Lann-AE’l Lostmarch, a small indie Breton France parfumeurie. This was all the range on MakeupAlley about 15 years ago and it’s so pretty and soft and soothing, all milky sweet cereal grains with a touch of citrus and other fruit. Perhaps one of the early gourmands and ahead of its time. I looked online and it’s still available from France but I never hear people talking about the brand ahd I don’t know if the composition is still the same.
I fell in love with Lostmarc’h Iroaz years ago, and finally was able to obtain a bottle through Suzan Becker, who runs the Shop In France website/service (no affiliation, of course). I gather it wasn’t easy for her to get either, but I’m happy to now have it. Fwiw, the juice in the FB seems unchanged from the years-old sample.
Now I want to try them all!
I have an old decant of Lann-Ael from those MUA days that I love, you described it perfectly. In my head I call it fancy French Froot Loops.
Love their website,need a frag-mole to France asap!!😉
Wearing Queen by Queen Latifah today. Yummy! Also, had to put the kibosh on procrastination by washing my makeup brushes. I have a too many. Time to downsize that department. Meanwhile, I will continue to procrastinate in other areas of my life. Again, (still) very hot and sunny today. Some amazing skies yesterday as a band of thunderstorms came through. Looked to be the End of Times but it mostly went north of us, luckily. I live in fear and dread of hail storms. 😬
Happy Sunday Funday, Fragrant Filks!

*Love* QL! I think there are a couple other NST fans, too: lillyjo? Jalapeño?
I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that I have never tried Queen Latifah Queen. 😳
I remember Queen!Such a goody.I drained two bottles in no time, back then I was thinking “this is Angel I can actually wear!”,and not Chopard’s wish which was also too sharp on my nose.Just lovely
Wearing some Lyric body butter and might apply a smidgen of the extrait version a little later. I have no idea why Amouage pretty much did away with the body stuff. When I use the lotions and body wash, I feel wealthy.
I am surprised too, but I guess they don’t sell enough.
Have we ever done a community project on what Bittersweet would be like?
Personally, it would be something to see us all in a room together devising such a scent.
It is a word that comes up a lot for many of us.
I think an NST convention would be AWESOME!👍🏼
I might not really understand the project, can you elaborate?
Sorry to overcomplicate, Robin.
Maybe I just meant to say ” what fragrance do you wear when you are having a very bittersweet day?”
oh, I thought you meant perfumes that had both bitter and sweet notes. Cuz that would be interesting too if we can come up with any
Thank you!
It’s my birthday today ( almost birthday twins with Calypso) and I’ve woken up to a cold, dreary day with rain and possible snow…so I might treat myself to a trip to the florist for flowers. It’s also my wedding anniversary, 26 years. We tend to be a bit low fuss in this household ….maybe a bit too low fuss, so it’s a DIY event. For perfume, not sure. I share the date with Coco Chanel but am thinking something yellow and bright, Ostara might do it.
Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary, Kanuka! I hope there will be cake…
Happy Happy on both occasions!
Sorry your weather is so sucky,we had a sunny 27 celcius today!
Sending hugs!🤗🕺🏼🌹
Happy birthday and happy anniversary! I think Ostara is great for both occasions, particularly on a grey day.
Happy birthday!
Super Happy Birthday Kanuka! And Happy Anniversary!
Happy Birthday Kanuka!
Ostara is definitely yellow and bright!
Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary!
Happy Scented Birthday *and* Anniversary, Kanuka!
I hope you got some lovely fresh flowers, Kanuka.
A belated happy birthday and happy anniversary!
Happy belated birthday and anniversary, Kanuka! Coco had nothing on you!💐💐💐
Happy Almost-Twin Birthday!
I hope you had a wonderful birthday and anniversary yesterday! Looking forward to hearing about your potential flowers from the florist.
Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary!
I hope it was lovely.
Happy Anniversary.
I share your DYI and low-fuss approach to my birthday and our anniversaries. When I turned 5, my family threw me a birthday party and I was so mortified when they sang HB to me that I crawled under the dining room table and refused to come out until they stopped. Still feel that way.
(Happy to put on dog and pony shows for the birthdays and anniversaries of others, however).
SOTD is some very old Chanel No. 19 splash EdT. It’s a bit musty at first but the notes eventually slay the must and shine forth in a lovely way. I wonder if it might develop better if I decanted a bit into a spray vial.
Happy Birthday!
For the CP I wondered whether we ever did “jolie laide”. Perfumes with some less pretty aspects that render them even more beautiful.
I wore Jubilation 25 yesterday and Sacrebleu Intense today.
I went to see my parents on Saturday and spent most of the weekend being stuck in traffic. Lots of people going on holiday or coming back. All in all a pretty exhausting trip, but they seemed to be doing ok, and were very glad to see me, so there is that.
I also managed to squeeze in a visit with a friend who has lived in the US for decades. We met over 50 years ago in primary school. Friendships like that are special.
Great idea for a project, and I am in need of ideas…thank you!
Sorry about the traffic, that is a pain, but so glad your parents are doing well. And how lovely to see an old friend!
great idea.
Cool idea for the CP. Sorry about the traffic woes on top of your visit.
SOTD = Le Labo Myrrhe 55
Shanghai City Exclusive IIRC. Very nice. I still need to do a full wearing and then will decide.

Is it actually myrrh-ish?
It is indeed!
A belated thank you!
What Robin said! So many things that claim to be myrrh foward are myrrh completely abscent to my nose…
Interesting!
That’s a nice looking sample! The last LL samples I got were dabbers.
Ah, I was planning on doing a full day examination of Epona today but it is chilly and Oeliettes Rouges called to me – I must have sprayed the outside of the cap at some point. So now i am in carnationy goodness to fill out various forms – hubbies Medicare application, our new Passport applications because bothour passports are lost in the detritus of the Covid lockdown, and it is easier to get new ones. LOL. Although, looking at the forms, that has been a error of judgement.
Good luck with the forms. Hopefully they won’t be too much of a chore.
I’m still in Antonia’s Flowers Sogni del Mare because I love it and also because it is starting to go off a bit (all of hers have done this) and I want to enjoy it before it’s too far gone.
Has anyone else heard that Antonia is reprising the line? Luca Turin said that he talked to her about it recently. Fingers crossed!🌸
Just finished a much needed massage.
SOTD is Leather Jardin. I know it will be better in the cooler months, but just felt like it today. I love it!
Cooler weather will show up all too soon.
Some of the Fourteeners here in Colorado got a trace of snow over the weekend!
It’s in the mid 60’s here in Ohio and it looks like a chicken soup type of day today. Wearing Vanilla Flash for comfort.
SOTD = Vero Profumo Naja
Look at that snek! It is a wonderful fragrance and this gets the tag of why don’t I wear it more often?

The Naja bottle ain’t half bad either!
Snow flurries and a biting wind kept me inside most of yesterday, but it did clear up enough towards dusk to give a view of the rising super moon over the harbour, huge and orange/ pink over the icy blue water. Still cold but should be sunny today. Wearing Bracken woman, kind of fresh and sporty, which is not really what I associate with Amouage. I have my trusty sheepskin trapper hat on, in bed, waiting for sunrise and then walking Bat the dog.
I Jane a black quilted trapper hat with a faux fur lining, which I wear all the time in the winter- adorable hubby calls it my Elmer Fudd hat, but it keeps my ears warm like nothing else!
Profumum Roma Patchouli today. This is so beautiful (says the mostly hater of patchouli person) – looking forward to cool weather for wearing this more. It’s rich and woody and smooth with a dash of sweetness (but not sugary sweetness). Had a good weekend getting lots done – groceries, annoying chores like vacuuming out the car, changing mattresses, lots of laundry, paper organization. More housework today but I’m still in a happy place. Have a good Monday, all!
Oops – Profumum spells it with a ‘y’ – Patchouly. I think the sweetness is from the amber notes.
Sounds like Profumum Roma Patchouly would work for a mostly loves patchouli person as well. 😉
Popping by to say that I’m wearing winter favourite Chambre Noire again. It’s been chilly over the last few days.
I’m in 2 sprays of fabulous vintage Cinnabar, courtesy of a wonderful NST’er! I could smell the decant wafting away in my closet so decided it was time to wear it.
Lucky you, having a bit of vintage Cinnabar!
I sure am.
A sad story from my dumb younger days, I recall throwing out a giant bottle of Cinnabar when I was moving out. Didn’t know what I was thinking back then! Makes me appreciate the decant I have that much more.
😭😭😭!
At least you know better now!
The heat wave which started here late last week has broken today. It didn’t even get up to 90, On the minus side, I am now under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 9pm tonight. Watch what you wish for: you just might get it…
SOTD = Guerlain Nahema, courtesy of Daniel. It’s a lovely, spicy rose on the powdery side. Not a girly pink rose, but not a dark, gothy one either. It’s in a space all its own.
I like Nahema. What do you think?
It’s a solid “Like” for me. It played quite nicely in today’s weather. Sometimes roses and hot weather do not mix.
Next time, I think I need to apply more than what I did today.
And that should have been a reply to Kris above! 😵
I saw it😉
I’m blaming Monday for the formatting error!
LOL
Trying to get through some professional “challenges” at work. I am not a very outwardly emotional person but I had to pep-talk myself through the last couple of days.
I have been trying to circle back to some perfumes I haven’t worn in a while and selected Estée Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia. I don’t have many white florals but this one is a gem.
