It's Tuesday and Root Beer Float Day. Birthdays: Andy Warhol, M. Night Shyamalan, Lucille Ball, Alfred, Lord Tennyson. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm running late already, so I'm just in my DIY scented lotion (ylang + sweet orange). I will pick a (real) fragrance in the late afternoon. Tea at the moment is from my blend of random Upton black tea samples, with a sprinkle of nutmeg.
Reminder: on 8/9, we're off to Greece! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Greece, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to Greece, or that features a local ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: The Aegean teapot ("Porcelain teapot with ornate handle and lid with finial in 24K gold, platinum, or white. Inspired by the Greco-Roman treasures of the ancient world, reimagined for contemporary tables") is $500 at L'Objet.
Root Beer Float Day? I’m in! Layering Boucheron Trouble for that root-beery ambiance with a little CSP Vanille Ambre for the vanilla ice cream.
Creative!
Excellent.
I am wearing Patou 1000 and imagining, dreaming of living in another time !!
Back at work today and tomorrow.
Oh, you smell heavenly!
Vintage Patou 1000 is incredible stuff.
Hello.
Still adjusting from being in “holiday mode”.
Sotd is TF Beau De Jour.
This is one masculine fougere that is unisex to my nose and easy to wear. It is green, fresh and very nicely blended. I loved it since it’s launch but never bought it. BUT! In the airport duty free, I went to the TF counter to kill some time and I saw it 30% off! There were 3 bottles on the shelf and I grabbed 2, no hesitations. I recommend you to try it out if you haven’t already!
I just ordered a decant of Beau De Jour, based off of your recommendation. It sounds just up my alley. Thanks!
Hope you’ll like it! đ
I’m in Eau des Merveilles.
I’ve been trying to decide whether to get the last bottle of Elixir des Merveilles in a perfume shop near me. They currently have a storewide discount of 15%.
I have L’Ambre des Merveilles already and a miniature of Eau des Merveilles Bleue.
Hmm, should I get the Elixir?
I vote yes.
So do I! The Elixir is my favorite among all the options!
I have the original and love it, but am just wondering if the others are that much different. Is it worth having the Elixir and the Ambre? Just curious.
Another yes vote!
I vote yes too.
It is Marvelous…
Go for it!
Pretty brutal heatwave here in the Valley of Los Angeles – I think we’re heading up to 100Âș again today. I’m embracing it, and wearing one of Malle’s Desert Gems, “The Night.” I know it’s divisive – lots of folks can’t stand it, and even my adventurous daughter thinks it’s “interesting, but really barnyardy.” (She’s right, but to me it’s the most heavenly barnyard imaginable.) It’s also crazy expensive.
Yes, it’s an acquired (olfactory) taste, like a lot of the world’s finest pleasures – coffee, gin, and oysters come to mind; when you love them, you really love them. I think “The Night” might be the best smelling thing on the planet. As such, even at its astronomical cost, it’s probably underpriced.đ
Happy Tuesday, everyone!
I think you smell amazing! Bring on the barnyard!
Elegant teapot up top, Robin. đ«
Iâm wearing CSP Vanille CafĂ© today. Been really loving my CSP scents this summer. Theyâre so easy and fun, incredibly uncomplicated, and I donât feel like Iâm racking my brain to figure out all of lifeâs mysteries when wearing them.
Itâs just myself and my child đ in the
office today so hoping for a nice underwhelming day. Happy Tuesday all!! đ
I flew over the Flaming Gorge area yesterday evening. Waved in your general direction as I zipped past.
đđŒ *waving back!*
Hope you got the uncomplicated day of your dreams!
Thanks! It was seriously uncomplicated, just the way I like it!
I grabbed a decant of Via Camerelle today. I’m enjoying it, and I think I need more Carthusia decants. I have three, and I really like all three.
They do travel sizes if that helps!
My take on the CP this week is inspired by the myths of Ancient Greece. Many plants were sacred to various Greek deities, and numerous origin stories describe how a god or mortal was transformed into a plant.
Today, I am wearing Lush The Olive Branch in honor of the myth behind Athens’ name. Both Athena and Poseidon sought dominion over the then-unnamed city, but the inhabitants preferred her gift – the olive tree – so she became the city’s patron.
Here is a handy guide for anyone who wants ideas: Plants of Greek Myth
https://www.theoi.com/Flora1.html – part 1
https://www.theoi.com/Flora2.html – part 2
That’s a very clever and interesting approach! Thanks for the links!
That’s a great idea, Glannys! I’ve always loved reading the stories of Greek myths – thanks for the links. đŠđ±đïž
Very nice and well thought-out choice today Glannys
Thank you very much Glannys.
Should be quite a bit of Hermes this week.
Or Demeter!
Cool idea for the CP!
Thank you, Glannys! This is super helpful.
Excellent, thanks so much Glannys!
Hello everyone!
I’m about 45 minutes out from my lab final, which unfortunately seems like it’ll be harder than my lecture final.
Wearing Alaia as I’ll be working out afterwards.
Have a great day all!
Good luck with your lab final! You got this. đ
Thanks! Got an 89, so it’s possible I can get an A! It’s been a chaotic summer.
Yay!!
Thanks!
Best of luck!
Thanks!
Glad to hear that your lab final score wasn’t bad at all!
Alaia is wonderful in hot weather.
Thank you! Highest in the class, but it’s been very chaotic….
89 out of 100? Sounds like a great score!
Thank you!
Root beer floats! My grandmother made me root beer floats when I was a kid. She’s been gone for years, and I’m not sure I’ve had a root beer float since. Surely I need to remedy this.
Scent: Philosykos, because CP.
Brewing: green tea
Weather: 70, cloudy, breezy, still humid. Kind of chilly, really – yesterday was over 90.
You smell great!
Sounds exactly like our weather.
I was thinking of Philosykos for tomorrow. Maybe the rest of the week đ
First day back at work after vacation. As lousy as my vacation was, I don’t want to go back to work. Wearing no 19 edt.
So sorry you didn’t have a nice vacation.
At least you smell great! đ
Oh, I’m so sorry about your holiday. Sometimes they just don’t quite turn out the way you had imagined them to. I always struggle to go back to work, even though I really enjoy what I’m doing. I hope you get used to the daily grind quickly.
How’s Sydney doing today?
Wearing Red Musk Fragrance Mist from the Body Shop, which smells to me like a throwback drugstore musk from the 70s with a touch of fruit and spice thrown in. I like how it tickles my nostalgia. Husband finds it too strong. Oh well, he’ll be at work all day. Dog likes it just fine.
đ Dogs count!
In another Zara favorite today – Romance d’Iris.
It’s been a summer of Zara for you.
I know. Crazy, right?
Is the rice note fairly prominent? (You got me looking at it again!) đ
On me the rice is not very prominent. It is violet/iris and powdery in my opinion. I really like it.
Thanks Kris!
As predicted, Iâve been wearing the heck out of Au DelĂ Narcisse (Mr. Gâs comment: âwow, thereâs a lot going on thereâ), but this morning the hand went to Rocabar.
Congrats on your new bottle of Au Dela Narcisse! It’s gorgeous, isn’t it?
Thank you! And yes, it so is! đ
Smoothie is two white nectarines which are in full season and so good. Elie Saab Le Parfum resort from a red ombrĂ©e bottle, I think there is another version of Resort in a blue bottle, anyway this is a tropical flowers scent, very pleasant and no obnoxious ambroxan, I have two other Elie Saab perfumes, essence gardenia and essence rose and they are so good, I would gladly have more from the essence collection but the line is discontinued. Tonight it’s Maria Candida Gentile Sideris from my little 15ml bottle.
Your white nectarines sound delish!! đđđ
I’m wearing Desarmant this morning. It’s so sad that some perfume houses, despite wonderful fragrances, can’t stay in business. La Perfumerie Moderne was one, all their scents were so good.
When did they go out of business? I have a bottle of Belles Rives and had a decant of DĂ©sarmant that I finished a while ago. It seemed like a very well curated line.
A couple of years ago, I think. I tried to get a BUB of Desarmant and there was none anywhere.
There is a Dutch trailer who still sees to have some: het https://www.parfumaria.com/la-parfumerie-moderne
Decided to join the root beer party with some Acqua di Parma Mandorlo di sicilia.
Oy! My root beer fix would have been satisfied by Alien!
Put on the pretty-but-fleeting Douceur de Siam this morning despite knowing I would be at work. Okay then, time to put on some….(rummages)….okay, dia.
Love that scent. I have thought about getting a BUB, but canât decide.
Hiram Greene Vivacious today, sweet powdery violet on a very rainy day. Turned in absentee ballots to the ballot drop at my Township Hall, where all candidates are on the ballot, but you have to pick one parties ticket or the other and then vote your favorites there. Hubby chose one party, and voted for âthe least crazyâ candidate for each position as he saw it, based largely on all the advertising junk mail stuff in our rural route mailbox. I vote for other party candidates based on name recognition and perceived effectiveness. Feels nice to have done our civic part! Now mailing a present to my brother, a few tubes of splurge high end expensive oil paint pigments, he is an artist, and one can never have too many tubes of oil paint, right? Well, the rain has quit for a minute, better run into the grocery store while I can stay dry! Have a good day, one and allâŠ
I used to have a smidge of Vivacious in The Sample Stash but I don’t recall if I used it up or not.
Yay for voting.
Hermes Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate. Bright, tart, refreshing on a kinda grey and cool summer morning. One of my cats decided a few months ago that he was done being standoffish, and that his rightful place is on my lap while i work. For hours on end. Which is absolutely fabulous and so sweet. He does get a little self-righteous about it, and if I put him down so i can grab something from the fridge he is insistent on getting back on my lap.
It is only remarkable since he is 14 and this is a new behavior. We call him the Time Release Cat since his behaviors change and develop over the years. Our other guy has the same habits he did when he arrived as an 8 week old. đ
Thatâs very cool. I love how animals behave and follow their own path.
It is really so special! They are their own beings…even if these two are glorified stuffed animals (in the best way possible).
Teflon kitty was not a lapcat when she was younger, but in the past couple of years she has become one.
Root beer wasnât something you could buy in NZ a when I was growing up . We had coke and sometimes Pepsi but root beer and Dr Peppers didnât really exist so I was 12 years old and visiting relatives in Vancouver when I first tasted it. I loved it . Even now , root beer doesnât really seem to be on our supermarket shelves, at least not at my supermarket. I think there may have been a time , when I was a teenager, that Bonne Belle was sold here and there was a lip smacked that was root beer flavoured. Anyway, wearing Tauer Tuberose on a clear, frosty pitch black morning. It should be a beautiful calm, sunny day later.
The Root Beer Bonne Bell Lipsmacker was one of my favorites growing up.
I bet lillyjo remembers them, too.
I remember them!
I’ll have to think about links to Greece, but I do have one perfume from a Greek perfumer that I bought in Athens last year – Sillage Royal from Manos Gerakinis. I’ll save that for Friday.
Today I’m wearing Myrrhe ImpĂ©riale from the Armani PrivĂ© line.
Hermes? Demeter?
Bombay Bling for a hot summer day in Luxembourg. I will try if I can find a Greek Connection this Friday.
I admit I did not think of it til this afternoon and then all I thought of was Philosykos. I will read Glannys’ list tomorrow morning though!
SOTD = Chanel Coco Noir EDP
So good! đ€đ€đ€

I recently won a sample set of Broken Anatomy Perfumes, including Brain Dance, Burnt Remedy and Chasing Memories. Now that I donât have many incoming perfumes (more than half the year is over and I am thinking that my low-buy is working), I will absolutely endeavor to wear a sample a week through the end of August!
https://www.instagram.com/p/C-V2TUFRIqa/?igsh=MTM4NXhxcXlsYXRkNg==
That little black bottle is SO stylish!
It is, isnât it?
I love Coco Noir in the winter, but can’t see wearing it in the summer. I would think it would be too strong. Of course, I use the body cream with it so am sure it would be too much!
You smell great! And the other day too in Angel Muse.
Is anyone gonna wear an Argos fragrance this week?Or even better,Korres?(I miss the line,it was dcâd here in SA)
SOTD!
Costume National 21.I think the best from the house.I never knew they are also the people behind the Jusbox brand.
Happy Tuesday!
XOâs
Korres is an option for me this Friday!
No Korres here although therabbitsflower just posted that she did!
What do you think about Argos? It’s pretty popular on fragrance youtube.
You smell great today!!
Korres is not as easy to find here as it used to be. I miss the shower gels.
Robin, the Korres website sells some of the showergels here in the US. I order from them every so often. They’re cheaper than Amazon.
Thanks! I mostly meant there is no longer a brick n mortar store near me where I can smell them, and stuff gets reformulated so often that I’m afraid to buy even the ones I used to like.
I’m in my only perfume from a Greek brand today, Korres Pepper Jasmine Gaiac Wood Passion Fruit. That’s a mouthful! Funny thing is my bottle and box don’t include the Passion Fruit part of the title for some reason. This is a very nice perfume and the packaging is adorable too. I should wear it more often. It fits well with the cooler, cloudy day we’ve had so far.
Is your Korres perfume one of the older ones? It doesn’t sound familiar to me.
Yes, it looks like it came out in 2009. I’m pretty sure I have a bottle from the original run. They did a whole series of names that are just a list of ingredients. I used to have Ylang Ylang Heliotrope Citron, but I swapped it away within the last couple years.
Greetings NSTers!
I’m back after attending my 40th (gasp) high school reunion over the weekend. It was a lot of fun. I had a couple of travel misadventures along the way, which makes for a more interesting story.
However, I am also super tired and feeling a touch under the weather today, so a recap of it will have to wait. But I did get 2 bottles of perfume during my trip; one on the outbound leg, and one on the inbound leg. Those duty free stores in the large airports are dangerous!
Robin, I am so happy to hear that your Mom is OK and out of the hospital now.
SOTD = commando. When one is feeling like getting out of bed is optional, sometimes not even perfume sounds good.
Glad youâre back! Iâm glad your reunion went well! Hopefully youâll be back to normal in no time!
Thank you! I was both excited and a little apprehensive about it. Wasn’t quite sure what to expect.
Looking forward to your stories and the treasures you found at duty free!
Thanks Gail!
Welcome back! Curious what you purchased.
Thank you!
Welcome back! Looking forward to the recap and purchases.
Thanks!
Sleep well tonight Jalapeno!
Thank you Robin!
I’m so glad you went, so much fun, now you can get some well deserved rest, how is the weather now, less hot?
I’m in my carrot seed oil concoction today.
DIY twins then đ
I wore Tobacco Vanille for work this morning. It was cold and rainy and it was the perfect fit.
Right now I am in Gabrielle L’eau and loving it.
Jealous of your cold and rainy weather! But I should be getting a cool down later on in the week.
