Happy Almost-Friday and happy National Hot Fudge Sundae Day! Birthdays: Josephine Tey, Elias Canetti, Johnny Hodges, Iman. What fragrance are you wearing?
For the 1981 Stones song Waiting on a Friend, I'm in Eau de Givenchy.
Reminder: 7/26 is Mick Jagger's birthday. Scent a Rolling Stones song, or scent the man himself, or do whatever you want with the theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is a cropped still from the video for Waiting on a Friend.
Hello.
Sotd is Cherry Oud. Sprayed heavy-handedly as the heat shortens the wear time considerably. (I thought I was imagining this heat effect but google confirmed I am not crazy. Lol)
I am eating a thick slice of chocolate marbled pound cake I made yesterday. Imagine that with a hot fudge sundae! That’s a proper meal all right.
I am imagining it now đ
Hot fudge sundae..yummm
I am still on my JM layering. Today is WSS with Green Almond & Redcurrant
I don’t have many JM’s but am open to suggestions for your fav layering
Another one I liked was Orange Blossom Body Cream and Blackberry and Bay Cologne. I am not sure if you have any of the lotions or not so just throwing this out there. Also, Orange Blossom and English Pear and Freesia.
I have Blackberry and Bay but no creams or the other two you mentioned.
I haven’t done any layering at all with Jo Malone.
But I have considered getting a travel size of a body butter, just to check that product out. I’m a sucker for a good scented body product.
I heard a rumor that is worth perpetuating, regardless of its veracity: Keith Richards (at some point in his rock and roll life) would spray his underarms withâJoyâ from Jean Patou.
I will not be applying it under my arms, but it will be my Rolling Stones/Mick Jagger-adjacent scent of the day.đ
Ah, that is completely worth perpetuating. I wish I still had some Joy.
I hadn’t heard that one, but regardless it is a lovely scent.
What hasn’t Keith Richards done?!?
Lalique Encre Noire (Black Ink) for Paint it Black https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4irXQhgMqg
The tune is so catchy and sounds upbeat, but the lyrics are very sad.
“No colors anymore I want them to turn black”
Just noticed the birthdays. Well Encre Noire works for writers as well. Never read anything by Canetti, but enjoyed Tey’s Daughter of Time, Miss Pym Disposes and Brat Farrar.
Yep, perfect for both! I have also never read Canetti, I guess I should, but have read lots of Tey.
Your matches this week have been awesome Glannys!
Thank you! đ
Looking forward to your choice tomorrow!
I’ve enjoyed your picks this week.
For me Clapton is God đ
I’m in FM Cologne Indelible-in the body milk format. I couldn’t find reviews of the body products so I tried them. They’re more like a cream than a body milk and the notes are true to the fragrances. I hurt myself cycling almost two weeks ago, and it really lifts my spirits to apply such a beautiful cream. Makes me feel much better. And it wasn’t a serious accident đ
Glad it was not serious!
Glad you are ok carole!
Good to hear your accident wasn’t a serious one. Speedy healing!
This is the nicest place on the internet đ I’m fine, and thank you, ring thing, Jalapeño, and Robin đ
I’m wearing Vetiver Dance, which is one of my favorite Tauers.
I am a fan of the Stones, their music was a big part of my growing up years and I’ve seen them live several times. So I don’t understand why I can’t seem to find anything for the CP! My creative juices are stagnant.
So today I’m wearing Imaginary Authors The Soft Lawn. I should have a travel spray of this one.
Points!

That picture is hilarious, thanks Robin!
At the moment Iâm in Eau Sauvage, which I can imagine Sir Mick wearing with elan. But since weâre having a relatively mild day today, weather-wise, I will spritz on some Whiff of Waffle Cone at bedtime tonight and pair it with Brown Sugar.
Well we are twins, although I have a hard time imagining the Jagger in it. Great scent though.
Hey, we smell fabulous! I didnât think of this scent in connection with Mick until I followed the link above and saw him wearing proper tennis whites. đ
HermĂšs Vetiver Tonka today from a travel spray. I tried to wear this exclusively a while back in an effort to thunk it but all I accomplished was to get heartily sick of it. Itâs been in the back of my traveling perfume box since then, I think. Happy to report Iâm finding it enjoyable at this moment, about 1/4 bottle left..
Just coming in from my add on job which is all outdoors and holy Krakatoa Batman! The smoke really began to get to me. Iâm calling it a day for outdoor stuff! We need a good soaking rain for about 24 hours across the entire western US. Most of the smoke is from states west of here and itâs been like this for days nowâŠand also devastated to hear about the fires up in Jasper destroying all the beauty there. One of my favorite places to have ever traveled to..đ
We had a big 5 minutes of rain, but happily the province isn’t doing as bad as it could for fires at the moment.
Glad to hear that!
That’s awful, I think of all the natural beauty too, and the animals and the hardship. We even have smoke in the upper atmosphere here in the Great Lakes, every morning is hazy.
Not sure how far east you are but I know that many areas in Canada are a contributing factor in the smoke. The destruction of wildfire is just horrific. A couple of years ago I was thinking about buying some acreage but really, with fires being so frequent now and the fact that they are left to burn unless infrastructure is in the pathâŠI decided against that option. Just not worth the risk anymore.
One of my friends is quite upset about the situation in Jasper. She used to vacation there with her family as a teen.
Itâs horrible! Such a gorgeous area teeming with wildlife. I had to stop reading about it because it was so upsetting. I can understand your friends emotions 100%âŠđą
And she’s Canadian. So it hits close to home, despite the fact that she’s been here in the States for around 25 years.
Stay inside!
Iâm doing my best to do exactly that!
What do the Rolling Stones wear? Anything They Want, price no object. We could always wear our most eye-wateringly expensive scent in tribute. Hmm…
Today, though, am in the delightfully non-expensive Cartier eau zest thingy that is fun while it lasts (1-3 hours it seems)
Intriguing idea you have there!
I’m wearing Eau Sauvage even though I spent most of my day unperfumed. I simply forgot to put any on this morning.
A funny clip with Sir Jagger and a very relaxed Charlie Watts

Excellent!! Charlie Watts does Charlie Watts so well đ

A campy magazine cover with Jagger and Iman from the seventies ⊠a kind of Christmas office party scene. I keep seeing that he wears Cuir de Russie but I donât even think I have a sample. But Iâm probably more interested in Canetti anyway, having had a bit of a thing for him ( especially his three autobiographies/ memoirs/ essays ) back in the 80s when they came out in Picador editions. I loved Play of the Eyes. Iâm wearing one of the $1.50 perfume dupes bought in Jakarta by my husband, the Vanille tobacco one. Itâs very greasy , heavy oil but great smelling. Friday here and still tucked up under the duvet, waiting for dawn.

Review of Play of the Eyes. Also loved Robert Musils Man Without Qualities, one of my top ten books.
I love that magazine cover!
Thanks for this piece of history. Does Jagger wear Cuir de Russie? I was going to wear it tomorrow as a match to another song, and now I have another reason for it. Unless it is too hot.
I read that he did, no idea if it is true.
I’m wearing Vintage Joy, not spraying it on my armpits like Keith but I appreciate Daniel’s inspiration.
We smell fabulous, no matter our deodorant.
You smell lovely no matter where you spray itđ
Lucky you, having vintage Joy! I smelled Patou Joy back in 2016 at Neiman Marcus, and it was quite pretty.
SOTD = Zoologist Sacred Scarab
⊠the EDP, just to be clear. I wore my usual 8 sprays (đ±) and it is lasting a little longer today than the previous time I wore it. I do love it, so thereâs that! đ€

I have never flown Southwest so I have no opinion on the matter. I get obsessive with choosing my seat when I can way prior to departure, if I can. Have you flown Southwest and if you have (or havenât), what do you think of this policy change?
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/25/business/southwest-airlines-assigned-seating.html?unlocked_article_code=1.900.xROe.hBcX9hQLPEI6&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
I have flown SW a few times, I don’t think much about the policy change. Except that I see it as positive or that it makes sense. I like assigned seating and have gotten used to that, so, this gets no gripes from me.
Oh, off topic, I saw the No. 5 L’ Eau teardrop bottle in person the other day, it is absolutely gorgeous. I love it and really want one now lol.
It’s been a while since I have flown with Southwest. I don’t care one way or the other about the change in its seating policy.
Sacred Scarab is so good.
Iâll be flying Southwest next week for the first time in decades (seriously, itâs been so long that Mr. Skal spent about an hour on the phone with CS trying to reconnect to his loyalty account; I havenât bothered but should, because the disconnect is preventing me from using their app). We have a single, short flight, so although we would like to sit together, it should be fine if we donât. If I have strong feelings about the planned seating policy change after this trip, I will let you know.
Wearing Diptyque L’eau de Tarocco, one of my most overlooked scents. It’s a lovely orange-centric cologne that doesn’t smell like a cologne. A light overlay of spice, cedar, and a touch of rose keep this grounded. So nice on an overcast, drizzly day. Hopefully, that will all change tomorrow! âïž
I would LOVE to have a drizzly or rainy day here!
I hope you get one soon!
Thanks!
Thatâs a great one.
SOTD is Zara Romance d’Iris. Lovely, but no relation to Mick I am afraid.
House twins.
Hey twin!
Romance d’Iris and Fleur de Patchouli seem to be the summer winners from Zara for you.
You would be right!
Frozen mango and raspberry smoothie
So I sprayed liberally my one Zara, Blanc ensoleillĂ© and it is still detectable on my blouse, I didn’t even envisage it might last that long and tonight it’s TF MĂ©tallique which I need more of in my life, will pursue this on eBay soon.
Metalique is so good!
Isn’t it, I badly want a bottle now, it got discontinued really quickly, probably no one was buying, more for us.
Yeah.. it didn’t get very good reviews. Maybe you will be able to find a good deal.
When did it get discontinued? I thought I saw it recently in Dillard’s and Sephora.
It’s still around but I think it’s not in production anymore. I noticed it popping up on sale at Sephora during certain times.
Some of the perfume discounters on this side of the pond have decent deals for Metallique.
I was running late this morning and grabbed Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid. I am of course matching it with Ruby Tuesday.
I am glad to be having tomorrow off, because we have another district visit. This is a new district manager and I think she is coming so much to prove herself or something. It’s getting irritating. Lol.
Good luck tomorrow Lillyjo, hope you can do something more fun in between or after.
Glad that you are escaping those district manager visits! (I originally had typed “distract manager”, which you might find funny.)
I did find it funny!đ€Ł
Hello!
Stones, great band, got to see them live a couple of years ago. Very fun, Mick had tons of energy and switched in and out of fabulous sequin jackets like five times. Definitely worked the stage and played some great tunes.
In Byredo Ghost for Living in a Ghost Town
Hope everyone has a lovely day! đč
Hope you had a great day Omega!
Thank you! You as well!
Wondering what song I will pick for the CP tomorrow. I have a short list ready to go, with perfumes matches in mind.
Today should be the worst of the bad air and hot weather. It’s moving on. However, it does mean that folks like Kris, lillyjo, and madtowngirl might be getting a dose of the nasty stuff. Hope it’s not too bad for you all.
SOTD = back in L’Eau de Chloe EdT (the green one).
Edit: “with perfumes/matches…”
Getting better at typing with a cat on my lap. đŒ
I just watched my weather forecast. Everything looks good until Sunday. Then the heat and humidity really ramp up.
It’s so beautiful here right now I almost feel guilty, then I remember the heat is returning.
Sunday is when my weather goes back to super-yuck again.
I think humidity was down to 11 percent here this afternoon. Had Red Flag Warnings for the entire eastern half of Colorado.
Yes, we are getting it! In the 90’s for the next week and we have had some of the smoke too.
That plume of smoke is supposed to be really bad tomorrow and Saturday in your area, according to my weather folks.
Hope they’re wrong.
I’m so sorry about your air quality, those fires are terrible and disheartening.
