It's the third weekend in July, and we're marking the occasion with our usual open thread poll.
Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you're thinking maybe you'll buy after all, the weather, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Hello and happy weekend!
Sotd is LV Fleur du Désert. Trying this out for the second time. It smells nice but very reminiscent of something. Then it came to me, Nivea cream. Not exactly the same but it’s family.
I think I am very close to getting Comete. It is just so pretty and I love macarons, which this perfume reminds me of.
The weather is just intolerable! Heavy rain and super hot 35C for days and the foreseeable future. It’s only July. I am shaking just realizing the same, hot August and September are ahead.
I am glad you like Comete-for me it faded fast
Comete was love at second sniff for me….I caved to a 75ml bottle!
Would love to try Comete. It sounds like something I would like.
My sympathies to you on that weather, it sounds horrid.
Bletch. I do NOT miss humidity like that at all. It sucks being stuck in it.
Wearing no 5 Eau Premiere today since no 5 seems to be my go to for a work perfume. I am trying to figure out things to do for tomorrow. West Side Market, the Aquarium, or Botanical garden are options.
Chanel No 5 in any iteration is good. I may wear L’Eau this weekend sometime.
Twins!
Cartier L’Heure Brillante VI perfume from a sample
This is a very beautiful fragrance.
Picking up books from NYPL, having one of those lazy mornings and haven’t made it to the farmers market yet.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend
A lazy weekend with new books to read sounds great!
I’m in Paris-Deauville for a hair appointment this morning, second one with the substitute practitioner while my regular person is out on maternity leave. The sub did well last time, but I’ve found that the second time is the real test. We shall see!
Hair appointment twins!
But went to the barber….he finally got my instructions perfectly!
Isn’t that just the best feeling? Hair just exactly right is one of my favorite things!
It took two years more or less for him to “get”me!!🤣🤣
Oh my — either you are really patient, or he’s really convenient … or (just a thought) he’s really, really cute. 😉
Sherig I hope you see this!Lol…
Really convenient.
REALLY cute.😉🤷🏼♂️🤣
J B — aha! LOL!
Hope it turns out great!
It did! It’s funny, but I often have hair people who cut brilliantly but can’t seem to dry my hair the way I want — but that’s better than the other way around. I can always come home and re-dry it my way. 😁
Great fragrance Sheri!
Thanks! It’s one of my top ten. I bought the smaller bottle and almost immediately wished I’d gone for the big one.
Yay for second-time haircut success!
Onda VdE today. Happy weekend!
Happy weekend!
Tell us about your Korean beauty purchases! I bought five skincare products, no makeup, but I’m interested. I got a face mask, cleaning product for face, toner, serum, and face cream. The serum is a bit tingly. I’m also going to look for their sunscreen. I absolutely hate every kind of sunscreen I’ve tried, and I’ve tried many, but no Korean ones. None of them let my face breathe! I know it’s an essential product to use but I can’t stand wearing them!
For sunscreen, try the Beauty of Joseon one…it’s thin, moisturizing, doesn’t leave a white cast and is SPF 50 PA++++. I wore it the other day for the first time and it was lovely! I usually stay away from chemical sunscreens because they break me out. Mineral sunscreens are so thick and pasty, though. Anyway, this is a combo sunscreen and it’s very light feeling and there is zero white cast. I’ll be repurchasing for sure, and it’s so affordable! It’s also 20% off now.
https://www.yesstyle.com/en/beauty-of-joseon-relief-sun-50ml/info.html/pid.1107744417
Take an enabler pin or two for yourself, Deva! I went on the YesStyle site and bought not only that but another few face products and some lipstick stains that are supposed to be good. I really can’t wait to try their type of sunscreen.
I bought a couple of lip stains, too! And a little bento stack of makeup for my upcoming travel. I really like the lip stains I bought because they’re not drying, and the stain lasts a fairly long time. I also bought a couple of tinted sunscreens in the hopes they can do double duty on vacation. I hope you like all the goodies you got! It’s fun to shop there because the prices are great and free shipping. I’ve never purchased anything there before I placed this order and I’m very happy with the shipping time and the way everything was boxed. Hope you’re equally satisfied with your stuff. 😌
I ordered some Peripera Ink Mood Glowy Lip tints. They are pretty famous and I’m sure I’ve seen women apply them in some of my k-dramas. I almost bought some eyeshadow palettes too but then I held off, thinking to myself, “I’m not sure I really will look as beautiful as the k-drama actresses do with their luminous dark eyes and their pretty eyeshadow shades of pink and peach. I might look more sickly or scary with pink eyelids.”
Ha! GMTA! I bought two of those and then a matte, blurring style lip ink. I did find the color choices a bit off from the photos though. I bought one that is a warm peach in person but looked pink on the site, but the product itself is very comfortable. The berry one I got is already a daily favorite. As for the CosRx I like the snail mucin 96, the 6 peptide skin booster, and the snail 92 all in one cream. I’ve used these and some others at different times and like them all. Fabulous for dry, dehydrated skin, resulting in glowing, plump looking skin.
Korean sunscreens boast about being watery (and yet high SPF) so if you have the sticky feeling this is a good product to try.
Which Korean brand did you buy Calypso?
All the products are Beauty of Joseon.
Thank you. I have been curious if there is something unique with Korean beauty products since a few people have mentioned them. I’m just not familiar with any.
I think the differences are supposed to be that Koreans emphasize a lifetime of a sort of ritualistic approach to skin care (10 steps, supposedly), using careful steps of cleaning and hydration, with gentle products that are often traditional and/or organic (like seaweed, rice water, ginseng, and snail secretions (!). Overall it is supposed to be more careful to preserve good skin rather than doing anything to strip skin or apply chemicals like Retinol, etc. Plus they have an incredible array of face masks for every possible sort of reason.
Thank you for the information. Maybe I need to think about these products.
I will chime in even though nobody asked me! Much of my Korean skincare, including my sunscreen, is from Cosrx…I really like their snail serums & Cica collection. I also have a few items from Benton (especially love their Aloe gel), and from the Japanese brand Hada Labo.
I think the only “local” skincare I buy regularly now is The Ordinary Niacinamide serum.
CosRx is great- I use several of their products. Ulta (which is where I used buy my CosRx stuff) just can’t match yesstyle for price, though…
Glad to have your contribution–I’ll be on the lookout for items from that brand, too!!
Thanks for chiming in. I never knew until now how popular these products are with a lot of people.
I think it has partly to do with “Hallyu”–the Korean Wave, as they call it, of k-pop and k-dramas. If you watch the k-dramas, as I do, you can’t help but notice what gorgeous skin all the actors and actresses have!
Looking up this website tonight…like I really need more stuff to carry to Germany, though. 🙂 I’ve liked the stuff I’ve bought through Tonymoly so far.
Happy Saturday!
SOTD!Do Son from Diptyque.Reminds me of Spring that’s around the corner!
How can your spring temperatures be any better than your winter? Lol
Also.. house twins! I am wearing L’ombre dans L’eau.
And we smell fantastic!
Evening temps drop down below 10 celcius, then it feels “wintery” at the moment…lol.
Happy weekend!✌🏻
Do Son is so nice.
It really is.A great take on a green fresh tuberose.
Reminds me that I just saw a Diptyque store is opening downtown and there are a number of scents I need to try, Do Son among them.
Just wearing body wash today. I’m at that point with summer heat where I don’t want a perfume. I got three new to me scents from Korres on sale for the fourth and used the Peach Blossom today. It’s fruity while still being adult rather than BBW, if that makes sense. My favorite is Apthocary Rose, but their Cashmere Rose must be a better seller since it comes in a body oil and liter size.
Korres stuff is really nice.
I’m wearing a sample of “Wazamba,” from Parfum D’Empire. (I love this house.) Unusual and compelling stuff, to say the least. Pine, plum, resins, with sparkling aldehydes. Tempted to get a bottle.
Another scorcher here in SoCal, so I’ll lie low as best I can. Happy Weekend, everybody!
One of my favorite houses. Try Fougere Bengale!
Love Fougere Bengale!😊
I love Wazamba, it’s incense is good year round.
I can never see the name “Wazamba” without hearing Animal from the Muppet Show.
Trying out Theodoros Kalotinis Creme Brûlée today and notes are below. It’s quite nice. For some reason I am usually not a fan of coconut in perfume…I like to eat it but not that interested to sniff it.
Taking Mini She-ra and her friend out to lunch and shopping later today and am going to try to sniff anything new at Sephora and Macy’s. Going to try and find a tester of LVEB l’extrait based on some recs here.
Vanilla cream, coconut milk, burnt sugar
Did you see that I caved and bought Zara Romance d’Iris? I bought it unsniffed so if I don’t like it, it may be yours. It sounds good, but some musks don’t work on me so we’ll see.
Yes, I was behind on comments and caught up on Saturday and saw! Looking forward to your thoughts when you get it!
Just got it today and love it! To me it is a powdery violet/iris. It didn’t appear to have a lot of musk. I thought I could smell more of a woody scent. It is beautiful!
Yay! That’s wonderful…glad you love it!
Did you come across the LVEB extrait?
No, I asked the Macy’s SA and she looked at me like I had 2 heads ehaehe but really wanted to sign me up for a Macy’s credit card. 🙁
You have many long weekends as of late!
I’m in Eau de Neroli Dore
You smell great!
Lucasai I am no longer posting on Mondays, so all the weekends will be 3 day weekends 🙂
I was in Eau des Merveilles today. It’s surprisingly long-lasting: I could still smell it on me in the evening after a long day of walking around.
And what wonders I found today! A Lalique plate at an antique shop and a 2018 travel set of L’Homme Idéal Eau de Parfum (100 ml + 15 ml) in its original design with the taupe-coloured sides.
I have been wearing that scent a lot this summer. It lasts a long time on me too. You smell wonderful!
I am wearing La Grange du Parfumeur L’authentique that I got yesterday during my visit to the perfume farm . It was really great, the weather was nice, the gardens were beautiful, my favourite from all the perfumes I tried was l’authentique with orange blossom.
Did you buy some? Did they show how they make them?
I bought a 10 ml L’authentique. Unfortunately they didn’t show how they make it or their inspirations for the creations etc, we were a little disappointed in that aspect.
Ah, that does sound rather disappointing. But I’d love to see their gardens!
Thanks for the update on your trip to the perfume farm.

In other news, I stopped by the mall this afternoon. I had pre-ordered some items and they came in. I have to dig through my bags and put the stuff away! I also stopped by LUSH and look what I found 👀:

That bath bomb is so cute!
Your DSH perfume sounds wonderful!
Wearing from Atelier Grand Neroli from the fridge. The image above makes me think of my latest cross-stitch project, a book mark of a French farmhouse in a filed of lavender, an imaginary vacation home for me, sigh.
What a pretty thing to be working on.
It’s an imaginary vacation home for me too. 🙂
Wearing a sample of De Los Santos from Byredo. Was supposed to be flying out to meet family on the southeast coast early this morning but flight got delayed from the Crowdstrike debacle and the rebooking was going to be 2 days later. I was up at 2 AM rebooking on a different airline for tomorrow. Truthfully, isn’t so bad to be relaxing at home today, better than being at the airport.
I am trying to hold off on purchases until 2025 but I might cave for Ella K Musk K or one of my Day Three samples, maybe Escándalo.
Oh shoot!!! Europe is apparently a mess too but my sister managed to get from Geneva to Rome this morning.
Hope you enjoy your day of rest and good luck tomorrow!!
Oops, as soon as I posted that I realized I was already a day late. So hope you are where you are supposed to be 🙂
Good Morning
I am off to church this morning in Blackberry & Bay
Sipping cappuccino made at home, with soy milk.
Flipping through the paper and started a new book
Love Blackberry&bay!You smell fantastic!
Which Joe Malone is your favorite?
Blackberry and bay for sure!
Then Red Roses cologne, and the original Ginger Biscuit.Yours?
I like Mimosa & Cardamon
I have a sample of orange bitters that is interesting.
Black Berry and Bay is really good.
I will try Red Roses and the biscuit one if I find it
The JM Red Roses is really pretty.
I tried it today- I loved it
What book did you start reading?
Bride by Ali Hazelwood
And at the same time, the anxious generation
Those both sound good. Enjoy!
Quiet Sunday filled with new music(Cassandra Jenkins,Aurora…)
SOTD!Sol de janeiro Cheirosa 62 body spray topped up with Chergui.Aaand thunk on my 50ml Chergui!
Happy Sunday!
XO’s
Woo-hoo for the thunk!
Are you going to replace it?
As a certified perfumista, the bub is already in place!Lol!
I’ll let it rest a bit though, too many other lovelies that I have been neglecting!
That’s the best kind of Sunday!
It was!
And now it’s Monday and I meed to get up!🙈🙈
Just another Manic Monday!
SOTD is Chanel No 5 L’Eau.
Hope it was a good Sunday Kris!
It was Robin. Thanks.
Perfectly poised with No. 5 L’Eau!
Walking out the door to see the butterfly exhibit at Stan Hywet Hall. Wearing Worth Courtesan today. I was about to go with no 19 edp but Courtesan was starting to throw a fit about not being worn.
That exhibit looks so cool, hope it was.
My daughter renewed my Allure beauty box subscription for another year and yesterday I received the July box, which has a roll on of Malin+Goetz Dark Rum. It smells so good I’m already looking for a backup bottle. So that’s my sotd.
That was sweet of your daughter, and score…a love in the first box!
Yesterday I was in CSP Vanille Banane during the day. At bedtime I put on SL Datura Noir; I remember someone reviewed this and mentioned it’s really good when it’s hot out.
Were off to the beach; I’ll be hiding under the umbrella but at least we can go in the water. Going to be 40 celcius today. Made some garlicky hummus for our lunch. SOTD will be copius amounts of sunscreen.
Dang that’s hot!
Have a nice time at the beach!
Enjoy the beach!
Datura Noir is really beautiful
How was your beach day?
It was good. Spent lots of time in the water and on the floaties.
Waiting patiently for the promised cool-down in a few days.
I’m at the beach and wearing Moth. it’s a bit much in the heat so I might wash it off if it doesn’t settle down soon.
Hope it settled! and hope it was a lovely beach day.

Oh, nice surprise with your goodies!
ELDO Fils de Dieu today. Mmmm-mmmm good! 🙃
Yes it is 🙂
One of your “signature scents”!
I’m feeling much better today! Thank you to everyone who sent kind well wishes. They worked! Also, I pretty much slept for two-three solid days.
Don’t think I really lost my sense of taste or smell but I was just so stuffed up I couldn’t manage any appetite nor could I smell much at all. To celebrate today I put on some lavish sprays of SL L’Orpheline. For some reason even though it is incense and musk I think of it as a “cool” scent–cool and grey. It’s a bit like being in an underground crypt, but not a creepy one, rather an old, cool, comfortable place.
So glad! Do take it easy Calypso, keep resting.
Happy to hear you are feeling better!
Hot weekend here. SMN Acqua di Colonia yesterday and TDC Sel de Vetiver today.
I got my irrigation system set up for my back patio this weekend, so that’s good. But I realized that the leak I’ve seen every time I’ve installed the timer for vacation in the last few years isn’t from the connections on the timer, but from the handle. I can’t really leave the water on for four months and have it leaking the whole time…will see how long it takes for the strata to get a plumber here.
Got Kathleen Hanna’s autobiographt from the library a few days ago and have already finished it. Definitely takes me back to a time and a place in my life, for good and for bad, just as it is for her. So…a good book.
That’d be an “autobiography”…
Figuring out where that leak was coming from is a Good Thing, though. Can the handle be easily replaced?
Up and at it for Monday
Library later today
Layering some Jo Malone fragrances
two cappuccinos made at home to get moving!
I was dying for a latte today. I might need to break down and get an espresso machine.
The price for lattes etc in NYC are so expensive I think my machine paid for itself the first week of owning 🤣
I have a small manual one, apartment living you don’t have counter space
Oh I bet!
Whereas I probably drink about 1 or 2 a week? So if I had a machine I would just drink them more.
Corsica Furiosa for another blistering, sunny day. I’m applying waterproof mascara today since I’m headed into the grocery store and know I’ll be crying at the checkout. 😢💸💸💸
I’m going to make two small no-bake pumpkin cheesecakes as an offering to the Gods (and one to give a co-worker) to hurry along some fall weather. Egads, I’m sick of this heat.
I’m looking forward to fall too!
You’re well and truly in the furnace there.
Yesterday’s SOTD: No. 12 Bousval.
Today’s: Nectar Love
Weather: still warm, but not as bad as last week. Apparently lots of rain heading our way.
Sprinkly here today, unfortunately also very humid.
Weather, sunny with some clouds, around 25 C, with a light breeze. Pretty much perfect.
SOTD: Ninfeo Mio layered with the Caudalie fig body oil. The oil is brilliant by the way, even better than their old oil, and not just because of the scent, but it leaves skin hydrated and super soft.
Uh oh. You might have introduced a lemming.
Lemming
Mmm that sounds amazing!
SOTD is Zara Romance d’Iris by Jo Malone. The verdict is – I Love It!!!
That’s awesome, Kris!
Yay!🎉
Whoo hoo! Glad that this blind buy worked out for you.
What’s Romance d’Iris like?
To me it smells like a powdery iris/violet. I don’t really smell a lot of musk in it. It appears to be a little on the woody side to me. I find it to be beautiful and think it could be worn in any season and either day or night.
Wearing Mon Guerlain on another beautiful sunny day. I am so totally lacking motivation. I’ve been overscheduled for weeks and it’s getting to me. Just want to lie down and daydream.
I sympathise my current job is just slightly too demanding as well. So I have dreams of just staring out over meadows filled with summer flowers.
You smell great btw.
Thank you! Hope you get a break soon.
Sorry to hear that you are feeling so worn down cazaubon.
I’m wearing Frapin 1270. It does remarkably well in the heat.
I am following the discussion on Korean skin care but I have been using ROC, Paula’s Choice, and the Ordinary for so long I don’t know if I can change. Bought the sunscreen yesterday so we’ll see!
I have become mildly obsessed with gel nail products. I put the semi-cured sticker kind on my toes a month ago and they are still going strong, so I bought five more sets. Those should see me through until Christmas. I also tried some on my fingernails because I am bad at painting my own nails and I like them, too. I can have fancy patterns and not have to try to do them myself!
I don’t know if I can change either. I have used Clinique products for years. Now that I am getting older, I am always open to anything that can reduce wrinkles 😊
Paula’s choice has excellent products. I’ve been a fan and a user since I was in my 20’s. If you’re happy with your products and results, no reason to change. PC has an excellent SPF 50 with skincare ingredients here:
https://www.paulaschoice.com/resist-skin-restoring-moisturizer-with-spf-50/797.html
It was my HG for years, but I ran out months ago and started looking for a tinted SPF so I can get a 2 for 1 product and I haven’t really found anything other than CeraVe tinted SPF 30, but I like a higher SPF. Anyway, all this to say that two days after trying the beauty of Josean sunscreen, I developed a breakout. Not sure if this is the culprit as I bought a bunch of SPF’s and tested them all over my face the day they arrived.
For those interested, I would look for reputable derm MD’s who review Korean skincare. Many are reticent because of lack of peer reviewed studies, but some do recommend and confirm efficacy of non-USA developed skincare. Most will tell you the mechanism of action and why it works well (ingredients, manufacturing process, etc…)
I seem to remember that European sun screens (and a lot of Asian ones for that matter) are better than American ones because some really good sun filters are not allowed in the US.
There are some interesting posts on skin care on Bois de Jasmin. They might be useful. I don’t read there very often these days, but she had some interesting thoughts on skin care and sun screen.
My own skin care “regime” consists of Paula’s Choice, The Ordinary (or Deciem perhaps, as I use some Niod and Hylamide products as well) and several French pharmacy brands. I’m often tempted to try new things but, I’m mostly really pleased with my regular products that seem to work quite well.
From what I understand there has been no advances/changes in sun protection here in the US since the 90’s…I really like the Ordinary’s Squalane facial oil and Glycolic acid. One of my great anticipations when I get to France in October is having some free time to just mosey around and look at all the French pharmacy offerings…💸💸💸
I figure if it ain’t broke, no need to fix it re: skincare.
Exactly!
You smell fabulous. I cherish my Frapin 1270. Great bottle too!
SOTD = The Harmonist Royal Earth
Powdery, earthy iris! 🤍
No pic today. Instead, I offer you – ta da – beefless ground beef.
https://www.instagram.com/p/C9vMu7Exfgk/?igsh=ZDRvYWQ4ZHgwOWxw
I think fake ground beef would be a better description. Your perfume sounds wonderful!
SMH at “Beefless Ground Beef”.
Gross. ( the “food” not the perfume!)
I’ve been following the Korean skincare discussion with some interest. However, my routine is minimal, and I seem to have found products that work exactly as intended on me, except for something to get rid of a few pesky dark spots. So I am sticking with my surefire items.
Had some super scary weather here over the weekend. An extremely severe thunderstorm rolled thru the Front Range on Saturday evening. I haven’t seen rain and wind like that since Superstorm Sandy hit New Jersey. A nasty addition to the near-hurricane conditions was about 30 minutes of hail. The I-25 interchange near me was under 6 inches of water at one point. And Teflon kitty was hiding behind the couch while all this was going on. 🙀
Fortunately, I didn’t have any property damage. Do. Not. Want!
SOTD = L’Eau de Chloe EdT. It’s the perfect summer rose perfume for me. Lemon, pink roses, and a lightweight, clean patchouli base. So pretty! 🌹😻
That storm sounds scary!
Your sotd though sounds very nice!
I was staying away from all the windows, just in case.
Today’s SOTD was enabled by NST quite a while back. Unfortunately it was d/c’ed fairly quickly.
Wow! Sorry about the weather
Thanks LTSG. Fortunately, stuff like that doesn’t happen very often.
Hope you get a break from the summer muggies soon.
Glad you and Teflon kitty are safe.
Your perfume sounds very nice. Too bad it is discontinued.
Thanks Kris!
L’Eau de Chloe came out back in 2012, so it was a while ago.
Histoire d’Orangers for me today. I’ve fallen hard for Orange Blossom.
There are some wonderful Orange Blossom perfumes out there!
Have you tried the Orange Flower soliflore from Jeffrey Dame?
I don’t think I have tried it but I need to. Thanks for the reminder!
It’s on the clean and soapy side for me.
I’m thunking my travel spray of Angeliques sous la pluie tonight at work. I’ve been hoarding the last sprays for quite some time. It’s beautiful.
Is it a good thunk, or a “sorry to be losing this” thunk?
If I could replace it at a decent price, I would. It’s nice though to be using up something too.
Hot days in Los Angeles. Dzongkha’s flinty herbal veil is keeping me cool.
