It’s Hump Day and National Chocolate Pudding Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking points in 4160Tuesdays Centrepiece.
Reminder: 6/28 is Henry VIII's birthday, and we're off to England. Wear a perfume that is named for a place in England, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to England, or that features a local ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello.
Sotd is Guerlain Iris Pallida 6.
I am obsessed with all things Ancient Egypt, always have been since I was a child. Currently, I am watching this fabulous episode from Nat Geo on youtube. If anyone’s interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uS4Ujf-lVWc&ab_channel=NationalGeographic
Thanks for the link!
I’m wearing Untitled L’Eau, another great hot weather scent.
It is too bad they only do the replica series now, I did not love Untitled but it seemed like a promising start.
I am wearing Rosa Moceniga, i couldn’t resist after reading the book about the lost rose from the past . I got a bottle from the discounters. It smells soo good, very different then any rose perfume I have, it has a vintage vibe. The bottle and packaging is beautiful too.
Hello! I’m in Nuits d’Hadrien and I love it. Have no idea why I don’t wear this more. I’m trying to organize my collection, and it’s tough going cause I’m not an organized person. But I checked and even if reincarnation happens I have enough for severral lifetimes, so think I’d better streamline, a bit 🙂
Ha, same here!
Today, another thing I bought in England: Mugler A*Men Ultra Zest in 2015 when it was brand new, at (I’m pretty sure) a Debenham’s (R.I.P.) in London, where I somehow got into a conversation with the salesman about the transportation system, specifically the railways, which the British love to complain about but which compared to Canadian rail is a miracle.
HA, just compare to Amtrak in the US! Anything else would be a miracle.
And Amtrak is almost non-existent once you get away from the Eastern Seaboard!
For the CP Jo Malone Orange Bitters
Off to the library 📚 later today in this heat
Reading “All Fours” – a lot to unpack in this book 📚
That book is on my to-read list. Please let us know your overall impressions when you’re finished.
It’s a lot to unpack !
In some ways – I am like 😮 but I can’t look away
I just googled the book you’re reading, because I really like your recommendations. Found a link to a Guardian review, and it references this book with Doris Lessing’s The Summer Before the Dark. I read the Lessing book once when I was 22 and huge tracts have stayed in my brain ever since. I’ll read this, too, and thanks for introducing me to something new 🙂
Here’s the link, in case you’re interested:
https://www.theguardian.com/books/article/2024/may/16/all-fours-by-miranda-july-review-larger-than-life
So far so good- but there are parts that make me feel uncomfortable- but I still can’t look away
Needing a lift today, so poked around in some older stuff, and found a solid of l’Occitane Eau d’Azur. Unexpectedly still soft, so I applied that on one arm (yolo). I generally prefer the solid to the spray – except the solid has no sillage, of course. Also, found a small (1 dram) bottle of DSH Tubereuse, which is nearly full, so I’m wearing a bit of that, too. I don’t collect mimosa or tuberose, but they function so well as olfactory sunshine. Glad to have them around.
Olfactory sunshine -love that!
Wearing what I imagine is a pretty obscure fragrance from 1955, “Flambeau,” by Fabergé. I sought out an old (very affordable) bottle on eBay, after reading what Barbara Herman had to say about it in her fabulous book, “Scent and Subversion.”
She wrote,
“Like a cross between Baghari (1950) and Intimate (1955,) but with more spice and fewer inhibitions, Flambeau (“Torch”) is a candied floral chypre/Oriental with facets of burnt sugar and a spicy, creamy-vanilla, gourmand drydown. Delicious.”
I was thoroughly intrigued, (though I don’t know Baghari or Intimate.) I don’t find it *quite* as sugary as she did, but her description is otherwise bang-on. To my admittedly FAR less experienced nose, it has olfactory echoes of Youth Dew.
It feels old-fashioned – maybe because it’s an unapologetically sweeping, abstract, Perfume with a capital P – but I’m more than okay with that. A great find, so thanks to Ms. Herman!😊
That was a fun book.
I did not love Baghari, at least the modern version, and sadly don’t appreciate Youth Dew, so I feel safe ignoring Flambeau. Do love the name and I am sure you smell great!
For the CP I’m continuing to break out the Jo Malone. I’m sorry.
I’m wearing Musk Memento from their English antique shop collection which was inspired by an antique porcelain soap dish. Later I will wear Orange Peel from the Summer Fete collection from a few years ago which evokes English orange marmalade.
House twins
Looking like we are getting storms this afternoon and I am going to do a small Costco run today. Since it’s humid, I decided that no 19 edt would be a good idea for SOTD since I can’t find my bottle of Jicky edp.
Good choice! We’re getting rain this afternoon, but I’ve already popped on some Reve en Cuir instead.
For perfume today I had to venture from England over to France to get my dose of beachy fun with CSP Coco Figue. I don’t why on earth I traded my regular bottle but I’m so glad to have picked up the travel size. While it’s a pretty simple and linear fragrance, it just pushes all the right buttons to springboard me into a fun summer mood.
It (fig) always reminds me of when I worked for Hospice years ago. They had a large in-patient facility and there was a Franciscan priest (as a patient) there who loved figs. There just so happened to be a fig bush on the hospice grounds and when ripe we would pick him some fresh figs each day. I casually mentioned one day that the birds were having a good time raiding the bush, to which he replied we should put a net over the bush to tangle up and trap the birds and then kill them because they were a nuisance. Not ashamed to admit I never picked him another fig. Guess I know where I’m going! 🔥
I hear you on the cruel remark!
Fascinating read:
https://undina.com/2014/09/07/in-the-search-for-the-perfect-fig-take-2/
Well, you get a teachers tiara today. I had NO idea and currently am quite grossed out. I haven’t even gotten to the perfume part of the article yet! 😂 I’m sure I’ll get over the shock of learning that salient fact about fig fertilization, but in the meantime I’ll stick to wearing fig perfumes. Thanks for that link! I love learning weird facts like this ‘cause I’m a nerd…🤓
Weird as weird can be!
Wow. Good thing for me that I don’t like figs, not even the smell.
I love sweet figs. The ones I got two weeks ago had to be thrown out because they were tasteless 👅.
Well, I loved fig cookies until I read that. Thanks. 🤔
That seems particularly egregious coming from a FRANCISCAN!
Exactly!
Your last sentence made me laugh!🤣
Oh that is horrible. I came close to tears recently when a bird hit one of our large windows and died.
You can net trees to keep the birds out. My father had a small orchard and we would help him hoist a giant net over his sour cherry trees. He also build metal framed cages with netting around the blueberries. Every once in a while a bird would get in but overall the netting worked well.
Franciscan, as in Order of St. Francis? The animal saint? SMH.
You won’t be visiting Hades over your fig refusal.
No points for me this morning — I’m in ELDO Cologne, from the sample that was included in a discovery set acquired years ago. I like it, but there is an undefinably weird something about the “halo” it creates that’s annoying me. Usually I enjoy catching whiffs of a scent hovering around me, but for some reason this one feels slightly claustrophobic or something. 🤷
Ugh, sorry it is not working for you today!
Honoring wife #3, the “Tudor Rose” Jane Seymour, with a few spritzes of Rosewater from an old Crabtree & Evelyn bottle. Still fresh and light for a still toasty day. Hopefully storms later–we need the rain!
You smell great, Rosewater was such a good rose scent.
Hoping that you got some rain today!
SOTD = Francesca Bianchi Sticky Fingers
So good and I used my normal 8 sprays … still, it will last several lifetimes!

So, I may have mentioned getting a coupon from Seasons 52 with a free 1/2 soup 1/2 flatbread (or salad) deal. My plan was to get a “beverage”, an iced tea and leverage the coupon. I purposely showed the coupon before I even ordered so the person KNEW that I was using it. Besides the drinks which were full sized, I also got a full-sized version of the soup and the flatbread. I of course had to ask why I was getting the full size of everything and she said the coupon was only good for the individual half sizes and not for a meal. I just looked at her because SHE HAD MY COUPON AND KNEW I WAS USING IT! Anyway, long story short (ha! too late 🤣), I ended up getting a half flat bread. When the bill came, I was charged the correct amount. I gave her a good tip anyway since that was my plan to begin with. I hope she is happy. 🤷🏻♀️
Eight sprays of a Francesca Bianchi! Wow.
I don’t own any skanky FBs so par for the course 🤣.
Glad that you ended up using that coupon anyway.
SOTD is Zara Fleur de Patchouli. I am really enjoying this one and it could be worn in any season.
Glad to hear that Fleur de Patchouli is working out for you!
It’s thanks to you! What other one are you thinking about getting?
Parfait d’Ochidee. I’ve heard it favorably compared to a couple of other perfumes I like.
Oh, boy that one does sound good. You may be an enabler again. Did you decide against Vetiver Pamplemousse? I was kind of thinking about Fleur D’Organger too.
Last time I checked, the Vetiver Pamplemousse was still out of stock. I’m taking that as a sign it’s not meant to be.
https://tudortreasures.net/katherine-of-aragons-pomegranate-emblem/
I was going to work my way through all the wives of Henry VIII for the CP but I’ve been a bit slow…but , no matter! First wife , Katherine of Aragon , was symbolised by the pomegranate and there are beautiful depictions in carvings and jewellery, along with The rose of her husband. She had six children but only one, Mary, lived. Henry divorced her ( married 20-plus years) and she died when she was fifty. Pomegranate Noir at the moment.
Thank you for posting this! I spent a decent amount of time drooling over the descriptions of her garments.
I like the gold locket.
Very cool link. Thanks for posting it!
Hello everyone!
I’ve been sweating it out all morning, so just a light spray of Acqua di Parma Acqua Iris. I got this one one clearance awhile back and it was calling to me. Very citrusy on top with a smooth iris heart. Fades pretty nicely. If Iris Ukiyoe actually had an iris note, I think it would smell like this.
Only a few more days of my Statistics class; my final is oddly on the Saturday after July 4th. Only 5 more chapters of homework and a test left.
Have a great day everyone!
Good luck! Statistics was pretty much everyone’s nemesis when I took it. And I think, historically speaking, no one does cartwheels when they learn they have to have it for their degree. Will you be done with everything when this class is completed or do you still have more ahead of you? Seems like you have been kicking some scholastic a$$! RESPECT! (And a hat tip for your enduring stick-to-it and get-‘er-done attitude! 🎓
It’s not too scary in this format, but I’m deeply tired of teaching it to myself.
I still have quite a few classes before graduating, but I think I can do it in 3 semesters! One more summer class too (with lab!) Thank you for your encouragement.
Good luck with the rest of your class!
Thank you!
Woohoo! I should hate statistics but I actually enjoyed it. I took the course with a dear friend (☹️ God rest his soul) and the strangest thing was we used to sit up front and had a ritual of me pulling out my mirror, flashing him with it him and saying “scare yourself”.
How fun! It’s not bad subject matter, but it isn’t particularly interesting to me.
Hang in there! You’re almost done!
Thank you!
It is HOT today, so I am wearing a tiny dab of Child. However, I wish that I was wearing You or Someone Like You, so I guess that’s on deck for tomorrow.
The only thing I ever watch is soccer, and with the Euros and the Copa America happening simultaneously I am in serious screen overload! But (most of) the games have been exciting, and it’s a great way to hide out from the heat.
It is so hot I could happily watch soccer…
I’m continuing with my Ormond Jayne theme with Orris Noir. I bought this in London in 2015, a trip which is unbelievably over 9 years ago.
Ooo! Forgot about this house !
I will keep mine for Friday
I’m your house twin again today with OJ Woman. It’s my favorite of the line. Might have to do Orris Noir tomorrow because I do really like that one too. I bought the shower gel in it and loved it while it lasted.
Thanks for mentioning Ormond Jayne. I think I have some of their perfumes in The Sample Stash…
Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere
Will join you in Eau Premiere!
I’m wearing samples of Vilhelm today; Faces of Frances on one wrist and Sparkling Jo on the other. They are both nice scents, and I like how FoF is so restrained in its use of oud that it is much closer a gourmond than an OUD. I don’t see ever wanting more than these samples though.
Today’s tea is the last of my F&M’s Explorer’s Blend.
Good, have not tried either and that was enough information 🙂
Money saved!
It’s been hot today and I’ve been wearing Indochine. I recently “rediscovered” the PG’s. I still have a largish bag of samples of the line and this one was such a hit that I snagged a full bottle when I found one at a discount.
Indochine is fantastic!
Hello!
Happy Wed, joining Barqs in Eau Premiere soon.
Really liking chai tea lately with a bit
splash of milk. So more Twinings. Also stocked up on Bengal Spice, one of my favorites, by CS. It’s the perfect tea for cooler weather idk why I am craving so much spice lately haha. But I want lots of spicy food too! Lol.
Hugs to everyone! 🌹
Hugs back Omega!
❤️
Chai tea would make a great base for bubble tea! 😋
Been hearing occasional rumbles of thunder for about half an hour now. There were thunderstorms in this afternoon’s forecast, so I am glad that I finished my errands and got home before they blew up.
Much cooler here today, at 91 for a high. Temps are going to hover around that for a few days now. Hoping for a couple of nice rains to help with the dry, dry and more dry.
SOTD = commando, but wearing Vanilla Vibezzz body butter on the usual spots again. And plenty of sunscreen! 😎
I was tempted by the Josie Maran Topless Tangerine body butter the other day.
It’s 79 here, I will try and reverse the wind your way!
No no, send it here please!
I have the Josie Maran Topless Tangerine body butter but haven’t tried it yet.
Don’t worry about sending your weather this way; it will cool down here soon enough. 😉
I’ll have to put out the garbage! It rained and if it had stopped I will do it tonight!
Hope the weather gives you a break so that you can take out your trash!
Wore 4160 Tuesdays New York ’55 today. It’s mostly worn off so I will reapply something at bedtime.
We’ve had rain for most of the day; it temporarily stopped and now we’re having a thunderstorm. Almost entirely unheard of here. It’s fantastic, I really miss having them.
I temporarily stopped my Lush Kitchen subscription. So many shower gels, soaps and scrubs to last me. Plus bath bombs! I organized the products by type just to get a better handle on what I have. Have to start a nightly bath ritual for the next while to get through some of it.
Do you watch Thomas from Ouch 110? He shows his Lush subscription box. It does seem like a lot to get through. I have a goal of getting through 2 Bath and Body Works shower gel and lotions this summer.
I’m jealous about you rarely getting thunderstorms.
Yes, I love Ouch 110! He’s fantastic! He seems to power through stuff very quickly. Plus his fragrance reviews are excellent.
I grew up in an area that would get storms all the time so I sure miss them. My dad especially loved to watch them on the front step. I think this could be part of why I’m kind of a weather nerd 🤓!
I’m a bit of a weather nerd too, but I am also a scaredy cat!
Thunderstorm twins today! Glad that I was safely inside for mine, though. The wind kicked up during mine.
Hi twin! Nice to have the rain today (for both of us).
For sure! Could definitely use more here.
Late but here.
I have worry on my brain lately.
My sotd is Dame BFMV.
I’m wildly spraying “Worry Be Gone” for you. It’s a foolproof treatment for “Worry on the Brain.”
Thank you allo!🤗
It smells great!
I hope your worries go away!
Thank you hajusuuri!
Sending you some Teflon kitty lap snuggles to soothe away your worry.
I am somehow not able to get my mind around much that pertains to Henry VIII but so far this week I’ve been wearing Chypre Mousse, Popeline Blanche and ELdO Charogne. What a crazy mix.
I will be partially on track this Friday with a fragrance recently muled to me from London…😎🇬🇧
Excited to find out what you are wearing Friday!
I figure any rose perfumes will work, since the Tudor Rose was the symbol of that dynasty…
Hoping that I’m understanding the week’s challenge, I’m diving headlong into what’s become a favored house: Perfumer H. Yesterday was a dousing of Gold in light of the heat, and today I sprayed the rest of my sample of Smoke. I’m trying to figure out what it reminds me of, because it’s rose and incense is definitely haunting. I absolutely love it from beginning to end (and I normally avoid rose), but the sillage is practically nil. No Perfumer H fragrance wafts galore, but my favorites move in and out of my awareness on the breeze (or fan), as I wish this one did.
Thank you for reminding me about Perfumer H! Rhubarb might make a showing tomorrow😊
I will be very interested to hear a review, as I’ve not been able to acquire a sample of that one. 🙂
