It's Hump Day, Anne Frank’s birthday, the World Day Against Child Labor, Superman Day and International Falafel Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: still on vacation, still in unscented lotion that I have doctored with sweet orange and ylang ylang oils.
Reminder: 6/14 will be Roulette Friday! Devise a game of chance to choose your fragrance of the day. Suggested by AnnieA.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing Escentric 01 from a discovery set. This one smells at first spray of pink peppercorns. I’m not sure how long it will last.
That one lasts all day on me, but I know some people get olfactory fatigue from iso e super.
My randomized choice for the day is SL Douce Amère, one of my favourites — warm and sweet but with a bitter edge that keeps it from cloying.
I always enjoyed that one. I think of it as one of his “sleeper” scents. Lovely, but often overlooked.
That’s a win!
Hello.
Sotd is Violette Volynka. I think I am wearing 9-10 sprays but it’s still surprisingly not cloying. Glad I bought the big bottle and not the 15ml.
Wow! It requires that many sprays?
I think one can be happy with less sprays but I am usually trigger-happy and used to heavier scents.
It is definitely a good one!
Vacation twins with Robin, I’m in Eau de Wisconsin. Yes, this is actually a perfume.
Omg people, the last 4 days have been a whirlwind!
Saturday was madtownteen’s hs graduation. The ceremony was good but the weather was not. 60 degrees and drizzly. It was just our immediate family plus grand parents so it worked out fine. A low key celebration at our house and she got to spend lots of time visiting with the grands, which was exactly why they came. Her t-shirt quilt was a hit. It was the last present she opened and as she did the surprise on her face and “what?! Wait, these are all my tshirts from when I was little!”
Sunday we headed over to the campus where she will attend college. We had the cutest little Airbnb for 2 nights just 4 blocks from campus.
Monday was a full day of orientation and registration. She got her ID and is all registered for classes.👍 We even got a sneak peek of her dorm. It’s the newest one on campus (with ac and carpet!) and she will be in a 3 person room with an attached bathroom that’s shared with another 3 person room.
Yesterday she and I headed north and I dropped her off at her summer camp job. Her big sister has been there since the beginning of the month and the two of them just happened to have been assigned rooms right across the hall from one another.🤣 I wish I could be a fly on the wall, the two of them are going to have so much fun. And get paid for it!
Now I’m at my parents house-who live just 10 minutes from camp- for the next 2 days for some much needed R&R. I was up early and drove into town for a latte. The sun was coming through the trees and it was just beautiful. Saw deer and a fox.
Yay to all of this! Enjoy your R&R.
I see next week is going to be a scorcher!
Thanks lillyjo! Yeah, I see that. Today it’s about 15 degrees cooler where I am than home and I’m okay with that. Not a fan of scorching heat.
Sounds like a great time. Relax and enjoy!
Thanks! I will.😊
Thanks for sharing your last four days, its all sounds great! Now I’m curious about Eau de Wisconsin. I’ve wanted Kerosene to do a Pure Michigan perfume for years.
Eau de Wisconsin is pretty good with notes of blackberry, violet and sandalwood.
Wow, that is a lot! It’s so nice your family has the wonderful closeness of including grandparents. Very fortunate too that the two girls can be near one another at camp. But. now I am wondering, how can six college girls share ONE bathroom? I sure hope it’s a big one with several sinks, at least?
Ha! You’ve asked the exact same question I did!
I’m guessing they’ll have to make some sort of schedule. There were 2 sinks but just one shower which I think may be the bigger issue. Luckily my daughters first class everyday is not until noon! Not sure how she managed that but at least she can avoid the morning rush to get ready.
That was my first thought! Do report on how that works out!
Thank you, I thought WHAT?? My first college dorm did not have a/c but we did have more bathroom time 🙂
Seems like that graduation day went very well in spite of the weather. Glad the quilt was a hit. Enjoy the stay with your parents.
Thank you Aurora!
Glad it all went so well.
Thanks Kanuka! Me too. It did take a fair amount of planning to pull everything off, but we did it!😀
sisters…daughters…lovely!
☺️ they will be like you and your sister apsara, friends for life. Like peas of a pod those two.
Congratulations to MTT *and* you! What a great family time, and I (just a leeeetle) lump in my throat reading about the t-shirt quilt.
Aw, thanks MB! I got just a little lump in my throat when she opened it.😉
Love everything in this post! 🥰
☺️
So cool, that t shirt quilt. I get pangs of nostalgia hearing about kids going off to college. Just so exciting to think of the new phase of life – but also stressful, I know. Glad everything went well.
I was born in Wisconsin when my parents were grad students. I don’t remember it much, sadly. I last traveled there more than 10 years ago. Would like to go again.
Thanks!
Wow, small world. I’m guessing grad school at the UW? That’s practically in our back yard. I’ve lived in Wisconsin all my life. I’m biased, but I think it’s beautiful here.☺️
I am so glad all went well, and that she loved the quilt! Such a great idea.
Thanks Robin!
I’m in the very long lived Shalimar Body Crème from bedtime last night. One of the many great things about this body crème is that tonight when I crawl in bed again, my sheets will smell wonderful, even if I don’t reapply. Don’t know that I’ll apply anything on top today because the crème gives off a perfect small bubble of scent. I’m working in the gatehouse today for a few hours and don’t want to gas anyone out.
On my second cup of joe, watching T-Rex stalk some very oblivious prairie dogs babies. The Osprey baby I saw last week with its fuzzy little head popped out of the nest will soon be learning to fly and hunt and then the baby prairie dogs will have to wise up… or die. ☠️
I am a fan of fancy, enduring perfume body products for just that reason.
Another favorite is the Bronze Goddess Body Crème. It’s equally as scented, long lasting, and moisturizing. 😍
Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find that anywhere anymore.
I once had the Shalimar shower gel. It was absolutely dreamy.
Oh, that sounds wonderful! If they had a whole line of products-shampoo, conditioner, etc., I know I’d buy them all. I’ll have to look for the shower gel when I next peruse fragrancenet…💸💸💸
In JM Oat and Cornflower. My roulette game might be waving my hand over the decant&small bottle section of my collection, since I often don’t know what is what anyway.
That’s a nice perfume. I liked that series.
I am wearing SMN Iris, this is the most beautiful Iris for me, i am happy i got a bottle in Italy.
Back at work yesterday and today, the weather feels like autumn weather, looking forward to summer!!
I assume it is the newer Iris then? That packaging is so lovely.
It is going to be in the 90’s today so I went with Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream and Bronze Goddess Nuit perfume.
The bbw Vacation Vibes smells very similar to the Bum Bum cream. I got the mini spray.
Interesting. I was not even aware of Vacation Vibes. I guess I missed that one along the way.
It’s pretty new.
How funny! I consider the Bum Bum Cream to be a winter pick-me-up.
Actually, I just was going to try it for a lotion and this gal I ran into at Sephora said she wears it all the time because it doesn’t interfere with any perfume. Some people think it is kind of a suntan lotion so I use a coconut body wash from BBW, then Bum Bum lotion on my legs and then the Bronze Goddess Nuit. It all seems to come together.
Each time I have used the Bum Bum Cream, it’s been a sweet gourmand fragrance. I don’t think I could handle it in warm or hot weather.
Wearing an unhealthy amount of Lyric today. Probably doing an errand or two today.
Can’t imagine an unhealthy amount of Lyric – it’s gorgeous.
I mean to say, you smell fabulous!
The weather has been unseasonably cool here so I’m wearing Narcisse Noir to cheer myself up, I love this moody leathery odd floral. It smells truly old.
You smell fabulous, I hope Narcisse Noir is doing the job of cheering you up.
Wearing “Love Kills,” a citrusy, musky rose from Masque Milano. (The SA at Scent Bar was raving about it; he was right.😊)
Plus, great name.
Absolutely.
Our lovely cool weather is gone, here comes the heat! Wearing No 5 L’Eau, at this rate I will be draining my bottle by the end of the summer.
I will drain my second bottle by the end of this summer.
It reminds me of wearing linen, a blue linen dress.
National Falafel Day! I know what I’m having for dinner. 😋
Random SotD is PG Peau d’Ambre. A big dose of my nemesis, frankincense. So, total fail for me. Will try my luck again later.
Robin, are you at your favorite beach, by chance? Your scented lotion sounds perfect for a beachy vacation. Hope it’s been fabu!
Sorry you got stuck with a nemesis note in your SOTD!
Thanks! This is a risky CP, lol!
No, although I was there for a quick weekend trip earlier in the month with my sister.
This is a complicated working vacation and at the moment I am at the Greenbrier, leaving tomorrow though. Did get a nice sulfur bath & sauna yesterday 🙂
Yay for spa treatments! I wrote a longer reply yesterday, but I guess I forgot to press “post comment.” 🫤
I’m still enjoying the scents from my Arquiste floral discovery set. I really recommend trying these if you’re interested: I got five nice-sized samples for $40 (plus they added a newer one for free), and then you get a $40 credit toward purchase of a FB. After giving them all thorough testing, I decided on Flor y Canto, and ordered it last night! They are all really beautiful fragrances so it was a tough decision. I also liked L’Or de Louis a lot but it was $40 more, presumably to cover the 24K gold leaf in the product, which to me is nonsense. Flor y Canto fills a hole in my collection, by being a white floral that is extremely subtle with a lot of depth. It has subtly dark underlying notes, which I eventually determined is due (I think) to the inclusion of marigold as a note. Or else it’s the copal incense–but I have no idea what that actually smells like. This is my third Arquiste, along with Anima Dulcis (purchased quite a while back) and Indigo Smoke (purchased last year); I love those and feel sure I’ll love the new one too.
On the news front, my a/c has been floundering, not something you want in 90+ weather, so I’ve got a repairman coming later today. Wish us luck! (My three level house has two different units, and fortunately the upstairs one where my bedroom is works fine.)
Calypso, I have a reply to your post which due to my stupidity ended up further down as a separate comment.
I might have to try that discovery set.
🍀
I think copal resin can be a bit like pine resin, so copal incense might be Smokey / earthy/ pine? Sounds good. And I love marigold.
I hope your mother is doing well.
Thank you. She’s not eating well and they’re changing some of her medications and monitoring her.
Gosh, sounds like it is one step at a time. Sending love to you. I can imagine how tough this is after all you’ve been through recently.
🍀🍀🍀! Hope your A/C is fixed by now!
Ailing AC twins with you, limping along for now, hoping for a back order part. Texas summer with no AC is no bueno.
Fingers crossed for your a/c!!
I’m enjoying Eau Sauvage this morning.
A wonderful classic.
Indeed it is! I often wonder which new/recent releases will ultimately shake out as classics in another 20 or 30 years. Maybe none, since nothing “new” stays in production very long anymore?
Good question! Maybe the current formulation of the current classics (the name will live on)? You smell cool and collected!
Diptyque’s L’Eau Trois for me today, matches the cool overcast weather perfectly. From a swapmeet decant (thank you, swapper!) What a revelation this must have been in 1975 when it came out. Wish I’d discovered it then but it was not on my mother’s shelf of classic French perfumes that I constantly raided, and my local drugstore definitely did not carry niche scents. Coty Sweet Earth and Charlie were what I bought when I had pocket money & I’d huff the Bonnie Bell Lipsmackers in those fat colorful cylinders.
You smell fabulous!
And I totally remember the Bonnie Bell Lipsmackers!!!
Hey it’s your L’Eau Trois I’m wearing, Allo! Love it! Thanks for introducing me to this one.
I remember those Bonne Bell Lipsmackers, too!
Dr Pepper!
YES!!
FyC purchase twins, it’s a beautiful scent, I had wanted it for twelve years! Yes, Arquiste is underrated.
Oh good!
I was shopping for special cards for birthdays and went to Kuhl-Linscomb, which also has an excellent perfume section. I sprayed on two I hadn’t tried, Nanban and Misfit, and also like those very much. I’m in trouble now! Nanban with its spicy pepper is especially appealing!
Yes, I think Nanban is one of their bestsellers, the good thing is that there is no risk it will be discontinued.
This one sounds like something I would love!
In an almost randomly selected travel spray which contains a Tobacco Vanille type oil. It has become very syrupy-looking but still smells good but probably should finish it this year. Tonight I am in Jasmins Marzipane which smells wonderful as usual, I have two secondhand bottles, 15 and 30ml, I should be careful though not to wear too often and run out because on the Lancôme uk website 100ml bottles are £180 which seems rather excessive, mind you it really is a lovely, natural-smelling jasmine.
The U.S website discontinued JM and most of the other Maison line, unfortunately.
Most of the others seem discontinued here too, it must be very popular in Europe, I was interested in Lavande Trianon too but that one is gone for good.
jasmin + marzipan is such a wow combo that some other perfumer needs to come up with a similar one soon. It would be very popular.
IMHO marzipan + anything, really.
Ah, so true.
The Lancome Maison line didn’t hang around for very long, did it?
Not long at all, they didn’t act like Chanel and Dior to have a permanent more exclusive line.
My version of roulette is to shut my eyes and point to a spot on a map of the world, and then pick a scent associated with that country. Of course I cheated when I landed on the south Atlantic, changing the rules to best of three. But no peeking! On third attempt got close enough to France to wear Paris ( actually in the water, west of France). Great game! Freezing wind here for the past few days, instant ice cream headache. And the worst of winter is still to come. Porridge weather.
You are wearing one of my best loved perfumes! And I just love your randomisation process.
I just hunted out our old globe which I will spin tomorrow
Excellent!
I love your game of chance, excellent! We are going to have to establish the Kanuka Prize for Most Creative Application of Community Project 🙂
My beloved Randomizer selected Vero Profumo Mito for my Sotd.
This is such a complex green/floral fragrance and unlike anything in my collection. The dangers of sampling!
PSA – I noticed that TRNP is having a sale starting Friday. I’ve heard about these fragrances but don’t know them. Anyone have any favorites from the line?
I believe Embers is an especially well-done scent. I haven’t tried any from the line, but I think cazaubon has and enjoys this one.
Smurfygurly (from YT) has a few of TRNP scents as well. Not sure if you’ve watched any of her videos, but she gives very thoughtful reviews.
Thank you, Gail! I’ll look at her reviews.
I’m in the same situation as you. Heard about TRNP fragrances, but never tried any.
Maybe hajusuuri has tried some?
My randomizer is closing my eyes and grabbing from the perfume drawer, so today I’m in White Cube, which is good for a cool-ish day. I drove across the city and back three times yesterday, and I’m looking forward to only doing it twice today before having to do three times again tomorrow. This thing with having the kid to school by 7 a.m. and then having to be at band and symphony concerts until 9 p.m. is wearing me down. Just have to make it until Friday.
You smell wonderful! I need to wear that again!
I’m wearing Le Galion’s Sortilège today. I had hit on a simple random system, I have all my perfumes listed in a spreadsheet and I was going to ask my beloved to pick a number. Before I got very far in my explanation, he said Sortilège – that’s one perfume name he knows well, I chose it for one of his characters in Diablo 4 🙂
Perfect!
First super hot summer day here–took my walk before lunch, then did errands and now am settling into Rear Window on TCM.
Wishing I had some Cristalle, but am skeptical of trying the current iteration. In Goutal Neroli instead.
Smart idea to get outside early!
Rear Window, excellent! It would go with Cristalle, too.
Vietnamese Coffee is the SOTD.
Already bought a bub when it came back in stock.
I had no idea falafals had their own day!
I was trying to imagine a felafal perfume!
Cumin?
I just love falafel and have in fact planned to eat at a Syrian/Lebanese restaurant tomorrow.
My scents of the day were Sweet Redemption for daytime and a sample labelled “Que sais-je” (Patou) that does not smell like my bottle of Que sais-je. Perfume never fails to surprise me.
Spent the day on a glorious hike around the Roche de Solutré and Vergisson. I’m completely knackered but, boy was it worth it. Vineyards as far as the eye could see, and I could even get a glimpse of the Jura in the distance.
Sounds wonderful. Love the Jura too
Is your bottle of Que sais-je vintage? Or the sample?
Neither is.
Falafels! Craving them now. I think my errands tomorrow will have to include a stop at the international deli where they usually have them. Mr. Mossy was raised on rather plain (but his mother was a great cook) farm-style cooking. My parents were foodies. When I first said I was ordering falafels, he said with a show of mock-concern: “feel awfuls!?!” But he liked them very much and we still laugh about that. Summer weather is here and I got out my bottle of Ibiza Hippie. I thought I was going to thunk last Summer, but it looks like I still have some fruity-musky fun ahead.
Feel awfuls! That’s fantastic. Thanks for the laugh!
Falafels are tasty, but now I’m craving some gyros!
I wore a few random today. I started out in Bobby Brown Beach oil. I’m nearly done that bottle too. I find that oils don’t make me feel so clammy on hot days. I then added numerous sprays of Guerlain AA Pampelune for the day.
My bottle of Livre Blanc did arrive today! I was just thrilled it showed up. I did a quick spray on a tester strip once it arrived; seems like a wonderful scent, not too much. Can’t wait to try it out on skin!
Glad that your perfume showed up!
Thank you! Me too.. I was glad to see they updated the tracking this morning.
Glad it showed up. Report back after you try it on skin.
Thanks lillyjo! I will.
Glad it showed up. I am curious what you think. I put some on last night and for some reason it didn’t sit right with me this time. I really want to know your impressions. In the beginning I loved it and now I am not sure.
Oh interesting! I hope it’s a temporary blip. I’ll try it soon and report back.
Sounds good. If you love it and I keep having issues with it, I will give you my bottle.
HOT here today. Got up to 97 this afternoon. 🔥🔥🔥🌡️🌡️🌡️
I had an early morning because my brother had an endoscopy scheduled. The good news and the bad news were the same: nothing significant found. So more tests are in my brother’s future. He was really hoping for a solid answer as to what is going on.
SOTD = commando, except for Dionis’ Verbena & Cream lotion on my shins. Too hot for perfume today! 🥵🥵🥵
That’s getting into crazy hot territory!
I hope your brother gets some answers soon.
Yeah. We both want to know WTH is going on.
Got another 97 degree day on tap for tomorrow, then it “cools off” to the low 80’s for Friday. Which is actually what temps should be at for this time of year.
Wow, 97! That’s nuts! I hope your brother gets some answers soon. It’s so frustrating not knowing.
I could tell that he was NOT happy when the doctor said they didn’t see anything of significance.
Oh, darn. That news is frustrating. Well, I hope they will continue to try to find out what the problem is and get it resolved. I don’t know what his symptoms are, but hope he isn’t in too much discomfort.
He’s had a complete blood panel, where his primary care doc found he was low on ferritin. That was before his colonoscopy and the endoscopy.
Now the question is: why?
Oh man that is too hot! 🥵 I hope you didn’t have to go out for very long stretches at a time.
I got back before the true heat of the day came blazing thru. Glad I did my groceries earlier in the week. Phew!
Sorry no answers for your brother yet, Jalapeno, that’s stressful.
Thanks Robin. It has been, especially since his issues have been around for at least a couple of years. We both thought it might have been the stress of caring for our Mom. But there’s something else going on.
Hope another test will solve your brother’s health issue.
97 is terribly hot for June, hope it’s dry heat at least.
It is quite dry here! I think yesterday the humidity was 15 percent?
It still amazes me that it’s so dry here and yet Kansas is very humid. And Kansas is one of the next states over to the east.
I’m working tonight and wearing Hypnotic Poison eau Sucrete. It smells so pretty, but I don’t like it as much as the original.
It got to about 85 degrees today but storm’s are coming to cool us back down for a day or two.
I’m looking forward to my day off tomorrow.
85 is pretty nice for summer weather!
Enjoy your day off tomorrow.
Enjoy your day tomorrow! I’ve never heard of your sotd; off to check it out.
