Happy Almost-Friday and happy World Turtle Day! Author birthdays today: Carl Linnaeus, Margaret Fuller, Pär Lagerkvist, Scott O’Dell, Margaret Wise Brown. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a dab of Chanel Bois des Iles extrait for a day of chores and errands...that's the closest I'll get to a tiara.
Reminder: 5/24 is International Tiara Day aka Queen Victoria's birthday. Wear your perfume equivalent of a tiara.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows detail from Tiara and Case, ["Coral tiara by Phillips Brothers, ca. 1860-1870, in the form of a wreath of sprays and berries, with original case of simulated leather"], via Victoria and Albert Museum.
I bet you feel like a queen in Box of Eels, Robin!
I did more research on tiaras. Do you know that Van Cleef & Arpels made a lot of them?
The ones I liked especially:
A turquoise and diamond parure, Van Cleef & Arpels, 1960s** https://www.sothebys.com/en/digital-catalogues/power-image-royal-aristocratic-tiaras/a-turquoise-and-diamond-parure-van-cleef-arpels-1960s
Princess Charlene of Monaco’s Van Cleef and Arpels Ocean Tiara – https://thebeaumonde.org/princess-charlene-of-monacos-van-cleef-and-arpels-ocean-tiara/
Empress Farah Pahlavi’s parure (looks more like a crown to me, but the caption says “tiara”, and it is too gorgeous not to share) – https://www.vancleefarpels.com/mc/en/the-maison/articles/the-coronation-set-of-empress-farah-pahlavi.html
Princess Grace’s Van Cleef & Arpels Diamond Tiara (scroll down to see Julia Roberts and Lilly Collins wearing it; and I think for that golden dress Julia should go with 24 Faubourg) – https://royalwatcherblog.com/2022/09/14/princess-graces-van-cleef-arpels-diamond-tiara/
I think Ocean Tiara is my favorite, followed by the turquoise one. So instead of wearing a VC&A scent I picked BOIS 1920 Oltremare today (sea and blue color).
Which tiara did you like (if any)?
Ocean Tiara for sure:)
Thank you Glannys, the turquoise tiara.
That would be my pick too.
Great research! There’s a Van Cleef. & Arpels boutique at the corner of 57th and 5th (in NYC, of course) and I walked in feeling like a million bucks and walked away because they did not have perfumes in store!
Thanks. Well, it is a shame – although at least you saw some fancy jewelry.
The Ocean tiara, and I love the turquoise necklace with all the extra pendants and diamonds, but I didn’t like the turquoise tiara as much.
I would really like a picture of someone wearing that turquoise tiara. I am drawn to turquoise but would like to see how it actually looks on a person’s head.
I agree with Omega: Princess Charlene’s Ocean Tiara for the win.
They are all quite unique.
I bet you smell great Robin, I’ve not tried the extrait.
I’m in Labotanista 002 from a Beautypie sample which is really a 5 ml decant. They describe this one as a fresh floral green scent with notes of hyacinth, eucalyptus and musk. I’m getting a Herbal Essence from the 1970’s vibe. Remember that original green shampoo?
Was too busy to comment yesterday, but we had a big storm come through Tuesday night. Tornado sirens, thunderstorm sirens and we lost power at 8:30pm for almost 12 hours. Lots of down trees and power lines all over the city. Luckily none in our yard, but a few houses down a huge tree landed on someone’s Prius. The city even called off school yesterday. The news last night said thousands were still without power so we were lucky to get it back when we did. We were talking over dinner last night that it really makes one realize how reliant we are on our first world luxuries of power, running water and internet.
Mr Blue Sky is back today.😎🤘
Oh, that’s a scary storm. Glad to hear none of your trees came down.
Thanks Vee. We spent some time hunkered down in our basement. I’m glad we didn’t lose any trees too! We have a big one in the backyard that makes me nervous every time we have big winds. If it ever goes it’s gonna take our garage with it.😬
Glad you are ok, those storms sound scary! Stay safe! 🌹
Thanks Omega! It was a little scary, the sky sure looked ominous. Fortunately it came through when it did when we were all safely home. And together.☺️
I’m glad you were ok! That sounds like a scary storm.
Thanks ringthing!
I’m glad you are safe! I was wondering when I saw the Orange swath on the map.
Thanks lillyjo! Yeah, that radar was scary looking, and it just kept getting closer and closer. Did you get storms?
I didn’t get anything severe.
Tomorrow night might be a different story.
I’m glad you are all fine!
Thanks springpansy!
Glad you are ok. We are expecting some tonight, but I guess it is that time of year.
Thanks Kris, yeah, it is that time of year. They showed a tornado count map on the news last night for the country and it’s scary how many there have been already!😨
Yikes. Scary times! Glad to hear that you and yours are OK.
Thanks Jalapeno!
Hello.
Sotd is No.5 edp.
Interesting fact: In Japan, the most prized grade of coral is Chiaka (meaning: Blood-red). The shade is a gorgeous saturated red, literally like fresh blood. Maybe the same preference goes for the whole gemologist community around the world, I’m not sure.
Cool! I love reading interesting facts like that.
I was thinking of Chanel No. 5 for tomorrow. This is something a person with a tiara would wear.
Agree:)
The Splitmeet seems slower than usual. I’m curious — Did anyone plan to split something but then decided it was so good they didn’t want to part with any of it? 😁 And if so, what was it?
I’m still anosmatic with hay fever, so I’m living vicarious through your all’s SOTD.
Drinking a pretty pink hibiscus tea on a rainy gray day.
I agree that it seems slower. I thought someone would split Comete! Maybe we’re all just busy with spring stuff.
I considered hosting a split, but decided I just wasn’t up for the time involved right now (I know at least one other NST friend felt the same). So I didn’t buy the bottle I was thinking of. But I would enjoy hosting another one at some point. I hope the splitmeets will continue!
There are so many places to swap and split now, it might be time for us to retire the splitmeet…
Oh, I hope not. I have a much higher level of trust in the NST community than in others. You have fostered a wonderful, cozy pocket of the internet, Robin.
I’m with Vee and springpansy. I wonder if the fall one will pick back up again, so I hope you’ll consider posting at least one more.
Fine, we’ll give it one more shot 🙂
No fancy diadem for me today, though the spritzes of “French Lover” I’m wearing would be perfectly appropriate were I “tiara adjacent.”
Gloomy morning here in Los Angeles. I know I’ll miss these cool, cloudy days come scorching September, but I could really use some sun and warmth.
Happy Thursday, everyone.
Hope you get sun soon Daniel!
Hello!
Sunny with a bit of haze here, I bet there’s a wildfire somewhere. But mostly clear.
Enjoying a cream soda float before errands:)
Wearing Amouage Sunshine.
Hope everyone has a lovely day! 🙂
I copied you in Amouage Memoir yesterday, but didn’t have time to comment. Amouage works for CP because…. Omani royalty! 😁
You’re smelling great for an afternoon of errands!
Thanks! Goth Day twins! I love Memoir:)
House twins with you today!
Wow, that coral tiara is amazing. My mother has a branch coral necklace that she bought in Italy in the 60s that I secretly covet.
I won’t be around tomorrow so for the CP I am wearing Shalimar, which I always think of as the Queen!
I had the coolest thing happen to me yesterday, just incredible. I have a good friend who had extensive foot surgery 3 months after my extensive foot surgery in ’21 and we have talked about feet a lot! I mentioned in a recent conversation that I need to have my feet measured, because surgery and weight loss have changed things. So my friend asked me to meet her for a surprise and allow about an hour and since she’s a lot of fun I said yes. I seriously didn’t know what was going to happen, then she took me into our really nice locally owned shoe store and I thought I was just going to get my feet measured and she said no, I’m buying you some pretty shoes. She then said that we always do the practical thing and buy practical shoes but she found pretty shoes that fit her orthopedic feet and she wanted me to have the same experience. You guys, she bought me THREE pairs of gorgeous shoes – I’ve never bought 3 pairs of really good shoes at one time. She sternly reprimanded me when she thought I was looking at prices but without my glasses I can’t read them lol. She said it was a combo of their business flourishing, our wedding anniversary, and celebrating my weight loss.
Just to be clear, I was in a foot/ankle brace for 3 years prior to my surgery and I only owned 3 pairs of shoes until now.
Thanks for reading if you got all the way through, I really wanted to write about this experience.
How wonderful! And now you must wear them and enjoy. 😀
Wow, that whole thing is amazing — what a great friend! I had foot surgeries way back when I was a teenager (the dark ages, foot-surgery-wise) to address bunions and was in the hospital (gasp — yes, they used to keep foot surgery patients in the hospital!) for a week, then walking casts for 6 or 7 weeks, followed by “orthopedic shoes” (read: men’s wingtips) for another month. Left foot actually was cured; right foot not so much, but it was better than before. I of course thought the whole thing took forever, but compared to what you’ve been through, my experience was hardly a blip.
To go through all that as a teenager must have been especially rough!
That’s wonderful about your friend treating you to the shoes!
As someone with bad feet, good shoes are worth gold! ( good friends too!)
Absolutely. When I was still working, it was on my feet and I invested in good shoes. My feet would be worse if I hadn’t.
What a thoughtful and generous friend you have there! Thanks for sharing this fun experience.
What a good friend!
And congratulations on your new shoes!!
Thank you aspara!
I loved your story.
Wow! That is super.
What a wonderful friend!
Reading this, I can feel your excitement about the shoes, the end of surgery, and your wonderful friendship radiating through your words! 😄
Very true Vee 😊
That’s a great experience! May I ask which brands you looked at.
I must have tried on 20 pairs….my friend kept finding ones to try and the shoe guy was picking things out too. The brands I got are Aetrex, Ara and Remonte.
Thank you for sharing your lovely story!
Very uplifting story! Thanks for sharing.
Hey, that is even better than a tiara for sure! What a wonderful friend. I hope you will wear them all in happiness.
I am very late to the party tonight since I spent over 12 hours today dealing with my jury duty, but reading his has put such a huge broad smile on my face tonight–I’m just delighted! It’s a great story and what a wonderful friend. I say this as someone who has experienced so many hip and knee and leg problems and feel very confined to often drab but practical comfortable footwear. A glamorous yet wearable shoe is a miracle! I’m so happy for you! Thanks for sharing.
Aww that is a fantastic thing for your friend to do! Enjoy your shoes!
Last night I kept putting on different pairs, just admiring them lol
Parle Moi de Parfum Milky Musk today. Way off the CP, but I have a plan for tomorrow.
Going for Salt & Straw ice cream this afternoon with a couple of lovely elderly neighbor ladies (I’m driving) and looking forward to our outing. Meanwhile, yoga and then finish reorganizing after the camping trip last weekend.
How sweet! I am sure the ladies will enjoy!
Your afternoon plans sounded lovely! How was the ice cream?
How nice!!
Basking in Under My Skin this morning and thinking about baking. Found a recipe for no-knead bread that gets baked in Pyrex bowls, and the video makes it look so easy. We shall see. 🙂
Sounds like my kind of bread making!
What Omega said! Please let us know how it comes out.
I made that bread recipe! I thought it made excellent toast, but was too damp for sandwiches. It has a very yeasty flavor.
Packing to leave for Wyoming next Tuesday, so I have all these things I should split, since I no longer wear them, but no time to think about it. If anyone has noticed me mentioning something they found interesting, let me know, and when I return to Michigan over the Father’s Day Weekend, we can work out some trades, or maybe simplify my life and just give you the thing that stood out to you that I can no longer wear. I had no idea retirement would be so hectic. I don’t know how I ever got anything done when I was still working…..oh, wait, now remember, I pretty much didn’t. 🙂
Have a wonderful turtle day, everyone. The turtles are crossing the road in front of our place heading to the big lake 1/4 miles to the east of us. Have only picked up one so far, They get half way across the hot pavement, and have to take a little rest, poor things.
Safe travels to Wyoming!
Wearing Lou Lou this morning, which is a bit too creamy to be a tiara scent which I’d think is more sparkling.
You know, I won’t even tell you what I thought I read of the last word…
Lou Lou is so great.
And I head into the Memorial Day weekend without a single job offer.
Post shower lots and lots of Rien.
I’m sorry apsara. I really hope the right job comes along soon for you.
Such a drag apsara. I wish I had a job I could give you.
Rosa de la Patagonia
Hope it was a good day ltsg!
When I think of tiara I think of royalty and when I think of royalty I think of purple robes. So, with all that said, I decided on purple juice. In Dusita Splendiris today. How is that for trying to fit the CP into my SOTD?
I say extra points! 🙂
Oh, good 😊
I like your creative approach!
I had to think of something since I decided this morning that was what I was putting on today😊
Iris itself would also work for the royalty angle.
I am wearing Side Effect from the Swapmeet today. Loads more incense than I expected, not a bad thing.
It’s usually a good thing in my book 🙂
Wearing Courtesan today. My mother loved her birthday dinner at Pier W. That wine selection was insanely huge and the food was good. We don’t go to expensive restaurants often. I will admit that the creme brulees were massive. It could have easily been for 2 people.
Glad to hear that the birthday dinner was a hit!
Oh good!!
I feel regal in Myrrhe Impériale 🙂
Perfect!!
SOTD = Lush Confetti
Chanel No.19 smell-alike, in a sense. Love it! 💜💚

I am going to dinner tonight at one of my favorite restaurants in New Brunswick. It is called Salt and I am looking forward to catching up with a bunch of friends! For once I will not, although I am itching to do so, check out the menu. I think it will be the same with new specials. OK, I’ll stop thinking about it now.
I was thinking of you this morning when I spritzed your beloved No. 19. What a classic!
Chanel No. 19 smell-alike, you say? Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Enjoy your dinnertime get-together!
Have a great time!
Thanks to a generous nster I am wearing Phlur Phloria today. It’s a musky floral to me.
It’s a beautiful day out, and I am working the day shift. The last few days have been very busy, probably due to people preparing for the Holiday weekend.
Hope that you are home now relaxing lillyjo.
Just got home!
Very busy today. Counting the hours for the day to be over.
Wearing Masque Milano L’Attesa
Happy almost Friday!🌻
Happy Almost Friday to you!
Thank you, Jalapeno! 🌷
You smell beautiful!
Thank you, Lillyjo! 🌻
I went with OJ Champaca today just because. Still really busy with work, but I hope there’s a little more breathing room next week.
🤞that next week is less busy for you!
I was just informed that Ambra Di Luna is discontinued, after I asked about it. Oof that is my favorite from Monegal. 😬 💔. Lol coincidentally, Heartbreak Hotel is playing rn lol.
I don’t know the perfume but that is a great song!
My brother asked me to go over to this place this afternoon so he could change the oil and check all the fluids in my car. Can’t beat the service or the price, LOL!
Summer weather here with temps in the low 80’s this afternoon.
SOTD = Amouage Epic for Women, plus Dionis Verbena and Cream lotion on my shins. The Amouage doesn’t fit a tiara vibe; it’s more like velvet robes trimmed with fur. It smolders, while a tiara scent would sparkle.
You definitely can’t beat that kind of service!
We are weather twins today!
All he asked is that I pay him back for the oil he purchased, plus a bit of cash for his time. I picked up the oil filter myself, since I had the information on what kind I needed.
And the afternoon weather front moved thru right around 3 or 4.
It’s a great smolder, you described it perfectly.
I bet it’s nice to be near your brother.
Thanks ringthing. It has been good for both of us to be nearby, I think.
Have not tried Epic, but it sounds like something I might be interested in.
I’d say Epic for Women is definitely worth sampling if you can find it. It has lots of incense plus a bit of wood and some florals. A hint of smoke, too.
Fragrantica mentioned cumin, but I didn’t notice any. YMMV.
Perfect. I will just wear Tiara by the House of Sillage. One of my favorites from this underrated house.
I have ordered a new (I always have a full and unboxed one that I will never open. Maybe 50 years from now when I am 80 something if God lets me live until then) bottle of Swan Princess by the Vagabond Prince. I have been wearing it every day. It’s my Holy Grail and always has been. I have also been wearing The Enchanted Forest but I don’t have much left in my bottle. And it seems it has been sold out on the website for a long time. Bottles on the net cost upwards $350. Does anyone else know what is happening?
