May is flying by! We're taking a brief rest break with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the last fragrance you had a dream about (or spotted in a book or movie?), whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I want the little shed structure in that photo for my back yard — adorable! We’re headed for mid-80 temperatures today, so I’m wearing Assam of India and thinking about making a jug of iced tea and sitting out under the umbrella … that still needs to be cleaned a bit more. Long story. Aaargh. Anyway, happy weekend everyone!
Happy weekend to you too, SheriG!
I love your fragrance today!
Me too!
Continuing Morocco with PdE Iskander. Surely ol’ Alex stepped foot in Morocco at some point?
Continues with Morocco too
I am still celebrating Morocco
I am in Amouage Journey Woman (thank you Swapmeet)
The fragrance’s spicy and woody (or is it leather?) undertones resonate with the markets of Marrakech, while its floral accents capture the beauty of Moroccan gardens. There is some dried fruit too.
I remember I had a dish there with beef and dried fruits, apricots, prunes, etc etc.
Thank to Kanuka for the article yesterday-Now I have so many books on my TBR list.
This morning I went early to a park nearby for their annual plant sale that benefits the park. Found some really nice plants, but realized I have no potting soil-and also-my balcony is a mess after winter.
.. & Happy Mother’s Day.
Kids have a surprise 🙂
Which book will you start with? They’re all so good.
I haven’t read her last book, Watch us Dance
I never read the Unbearable lightness of being. The forbidden Notebook sounds amazing
Where do I start 😂
My husband has hurt his back, which happens every so often, so I am caretaking him and my mother both this weekend. She, at least, is doing great.
So I’m going to make a spinach, sausage and egg frittata to feed everyone.
I put on Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure but it’s losing it’s oomph, so I will transition to Bond 9 Silver Factory for my incense needs.
Hope you all have a good weekend.
You smell great (on both counts)! Hope your husband feels better soon.
Thanks, me too!
here’s to your good caregiving, ringthing!
I’ll drink to that lol 🍷
Waving hello to Nurse Ringthing!
👋
So sorry to hear about your husband’s back. I hope your tasty frittata is just the thing to make everyone feel better😊
Let’s hope so, allo!
Speedy recovery wishes
Thanks ltsg
SSS Incense Pure losing its oomph? Uh oh. Better check my travel spray of it then!
I’m in the 2022 edp version of Kenzo Homme. Surprisingly good for a mainstream masculine.
My question is this: How do you recognize the scent of irises? Whenever I buy the cut flowers for my home, there’s no scent at all. So is it the root that’s used in perfume?
I love Iris Poudre. And the original Dior Homme (another favorite,) is supposed to have an iris note. But I couldn’t identify the iris in either one.
Thanks, folks!😊
Yes, it’s mostly the root. There are some irises that apparently have flowers that smell, but in perfumery the root is used.
Having grown up in a family funeral business and helping carry floral arrangements after school, I never want to smell:
carnations
iris spikes
gladiolas – especially
mums
and I never want to see babys breath. EVER.
Eep. That’s worse than my “growing up in the laundry business” and resulting intolerance for most musk notes. 🙂
Funny!
Interesting. As someone who sent too much time in funeral homes when I was 11, I never ever want to see or smell stargazer lilies ever again. They make me sick to my stomach. Mr. Ockeghem knows this but still brought home a bouquet recently that had one, and I threw it out immediately (rest of bouquet was lovely).
Stargazers are polarizing, aren’t they.
This would make for an interesting weekend poll — what scents or perfumes were you overexposed to (and how/why) and now cannot stand?
For me, an iris note is often a bit like paper, or dry cardboard. If that helps isolate the “feel” of iris in perfumery.
Thanks – I’ll see if I can detect that!
Some iris flowers have a scent but as Cazaubon noted it’s their root called rhyzome which is used in perfumery.
Iris notes can be hard to detect, since they’re easily overpowered by more assertive notes. You’re not alone in finding it difficult!
The dried rhizomes are referred to as orris, if that helps. 😉
Glad to know I’m not alone – now I’ve gotta find some dried rhizomes!
😀
https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20181008-orris-the-worlds-rarest-perfume-ingredient
This is a good article about iris/ orris
It can also have a slightly sweet-carrot scent.
Thanks, that’s a really interesting article!
I agree with Kanuka, a vegetal carroty smell but also powdery, dusty.
I love the smell of Bearded Irises (sometimes a grape note) but I’ve never smelled it in a perfume.
I’m with allo in loving the scent of Bearded Iris flowers! I occasionally see them in people’s yards as landscape plants. But the root of iris is what’s used in perfume. It can be a bit of a shapeshifter.
I have been meaning to try the current Kenzo Homme! I have a 90’s bottle of it in the super-detailed bamboo bottle and it dark and murky. Just so good!
Would love to try a 90s bottle! I’m really enjoying this current one – it’s not abrasive like so many mainstream masculines. I had the 2016 edp version, which was forgettable, but this 2022 reworking (by Quentin Bisch) is a lot of fun to wear.
(I stocked up on a couple of bottles of Jungle Homme, which I love, lest they discontinue it.)
Ah, good to know it was reworked recently. The original smells like diving into the ocean at first light to me. Can’t wait to try the newer too.
Jungle Homme is fab, though the bottle is a bit of a headscratcher. I love the feminine too, or course.
Wearing Jasmin Bonheur on this gorgeous spring day!
Glad you’re getting some Spring weather!
Jasmin Bonheur is beautiful.
Today is my final day at work before vacation. I know it’s going to be a crazy day at work because tomorrow is Mother’s Day. Wearing Eau Premiere.
Smelling great to deal with people, Dawn.
I think I’ll join you in Eau Premiere tomorrow.
Enjoy your vakay!
I hope you get lots of rest for your vacation. 🙂
Have a great vacation!
Such sweet sleep last night. I am grateful for that.
Still foggy by water but will burn off by noon.
Am going to pull the trigger on a sample of Babycat today.
SOTD post shower will be Vietnamese Coffee. mmmmmmmm.
Your coffee sounds yummy

I had the most incredible evening last night. Around 7pm I went outside on the chance of seeing an Aurora and the whole sky was lit up, a vibrant green with shafts of pink-violet rising and falling from the southern horizon. I’m lucky to live 46 degrees South, and I can look south over the sea from up my hill with a good dark sky. I had never ever seen an Aurora like it. Usually there is just a faint glow and you need a camera to capture the colours but last night it was the whole sky, visible to the naked eye. Breath taking ( just like the photos). Later it clouded up. Can’t really match it with perfume as it was so monumental and breath taking.
I am envious of your sighting! I think there may be too much light pollution here in the city. I am thinking of taking a drive out of town tonight for a better chance.
Wow!
That is breathtaking! Apparently they were visible in my region, south of the Great Lakes, except I fell asleep in my chair early.
Amazing! Glad you got to witness such a beauty. I saw the Northern Lights once, driving at night on an interstate. Not super bright but definitely not a dull sighting either. Was fantastic to be able to see it.
I am so envious ov your aurora experience! I’ve never seen an aurora and was so sure this would be the opportunity, we had a crystal clear sky all afternoon, and it clouded over just as it got dark 🙁 .
How wonderful!
That is so beautiful – one day I hope to see the Aurora Borealis, or in your case, the Aurora Australis. I did not know that term!
Speechless with awe.
Fantastic pictures!
So glad you saw it! Was looking at pictures on the news this morning.
Trying to see it tonight here. (Last night we were at an orchestra concert downtown and didn’t have time to get somewhere to see it…should have just skipped the orchestra concert as it was a pandering disaster because the European “artistic director” thinks we’re ALL uncultured rubes here on the end of the Earth. Sigh. It’s time for sabbatical.) Hoping if we go to the beach we’ll see it tonight, even though Ockeghem Teen has an early call (9 a.m.) for her concert tomorrow.
I can remember that when I lived In Germany someone at a university party asked if I had ever heard of Bach (!). Of course I replied, ‘No, who is Bach?’ And then watched everyone squirm as the guy explained who he was to me. Pretty outrageous.
Ugh. Tho to be fair, when I studied in Germany the other North Americans in my program didn’t know classical music at all. I guess I can see where the stereotype comes from, and of course Germans are always very surprised that Mr. Ockeghem often knows more about their own music history (well, in his very narrow area) than they do.
Lucky you! It was directly over me but I saw nothing due to light pollution of a major urban center.
Thunked a bottle of Bois d’Iris today.
It’s one of my favorites, not sure if I will buy another bottle or try to explore a new iris love with a different scent.
https://www.instagram.com/p/C61jk4Fo76c/?igsh=b3NpdWtwdDg3cHlp
Gorgeous scent and photo!
Thanks
A favorite of mine. There are so many nice Iris scents out there so you may want to do a little exploring. As much as I love this one, I would have to say I like Splendiris and Iris Poudre better.
Splendiris is lovely and I have a bottle.
I remember enjoying Orris Tattoo from Parle Moi de Parfum.
Orris Tatto is very good as well.
I love Bois d’Iris, though I rarely reach for it. I tend to reach for Iris Silver Mist or No 18 over it.
Wearing my new bottle of Astier Villatte Eau Chic. Really nice. It opens with a fairly typical eau de cologne structure, and the petitgrain note is particularly nice. The drydown is lovely with a very soft tuberose humming in the background. I found it longer lasting than many eau de colognes, but of course it’s still not really an all day fragrance.
On a completely unrelated topic, can any of you New York City dwellers who like bagels tell me what a good quality bagel costs at your favorite shop/deli? Just the bagel without toppings. Just curious. I just paid $3/bagel at a little place here in Seattle. They are delicious, but it seemed a bit high? (Everything seems high here, though!)
I go to Kossars and a bagel with cream cheese is 4.50
If I had added plain cream cheese, it would have been $4 and if it was scallion or something like that, it would have been $5.
It’s pretty expensive- but I live on the island of Manhattan- where everything is 💰
Looks like that’s about the going rate here in Portland too, for reasonably authentic bagels.
And after reading the Smitten Kitchen’s bagel recipe, I’m convinced that $3 each is a bargain — what a lot of work!
Yes, I made bagels recently from NYT instructions. It was fun, but it’s not gonna happen often. Lots of work. I kneaded them for 15 minutes!
I’ve seen that recipe too, and it’s a hard no from me as well! 🥯
I have no idea what a decent bagel is going for in my current location.
As a New York kid, I used to lay awake at night in Teheran and wish for a bagel and a schmear.
Pizza cravings were even worse.
You are getting ripped off! $1.50 here in Montréal.
I walked by a chain bagel place at an airport the other day and a bagel with spread was over 6.00! My favorite place here I think is up to 1.50, but I tend to go late enough that they’ll throw in an extra one (I’m a rye guy, or pumpernickel, which are almost never gone!)
I’m in Carolina Herrera Carolina Herrera for a big wave of well-mannered tuberose. The sprayer has gone wonky on my old bottle, but I decanted some with a big syringe so I am set for a while. While the weather is nice I will do some outdoor chores, and I have a couple of calls out to contractors about replacing the patio cover. It’s 30 years old, the supports are rusted away, and it leaks.
Seeing your avatar now reminds me of ridiculous amounts of olives (and selfies!). Good luck with your chores.
I got a kick out of the olive story, too! You smell wonderful, and I had to do the same thing with my old bottle of CH, except mine would pump into a travel spray.
Hello all!
Went with Mohur today, since I had brunch with my perfume-sensitive mother. She likes it but she and I have VERY different tastes. Luckily I switched her to Twilly (I won’t say from what but it’s a darling for everyone but me) a few years ago which she gets great compliments on.
All my grades are in, and I passed it all. I might retake Calculus 3 because it hurt my GPA, and I think I can do better with a different professor. In the mean time, I’m off for a few weeks!
Have a great day everyone.
Congrats on the grades! Enjoy your time off!
I can’t wait!
Huge congratulations!
Thank you!
Congratulations on the results of all your hard work. Enjoy your break, you have earned it!
Thank you!
Yay, now get some rest.
I’m way ahead of you! 😉
Yippee!
😀
Great job! Enjoy some R&R:)
Thank you!
Congratulations!
🙂
What a great feeling! Enjoy some time off.
Thank you! Been a lazy lazy weekend so far.
Whoo hoo on your academic success! Enjoy the break, you’ve more than earned it.
Thank you!
Oh yay.
🙂
Congratulations! And yes, we’re finding with Ockeghem Teen (though I knew this from personal experience) a good math teacher can make a huge difference.
Yes, and as nice as this professor was, I needed more than reading the text book. Luckily there are so many resources online, but it makes for double work.
Congratulations! 🌟
Thanks!
Congratulations!
Thank you!
Yay! Congrats!
I remember visiting the Château de Chenonceau in June 2012. The wisteria was in full bloom in the Jardin de Diane at the time and I just couldn’t quite make myself leave to visit the next site on my programme.
The place was quite stunning as it was, but the addition of that scent made for a truly magical experience. If you ever decide to just visit one single Loire château, I highly recommend Chenonceau.
I love wisteria. I have probably said here before that my biggest regret about our house is that we did not put wisteria in as soon as we bought it…it would be perfect by now.
That was the first thing I planted when I moved in 2003. It’s magnificent now.
You can start now, Robin.
I will not be in this house that long.
I did put in a fringe tree right away, and it is gorgeous now.
It really is lovely. My friends just bought a house and I’m trying to get them to plant wisteria (and others!)
Posting and running on a GORGEOUS day! Divine Vanille. ✌🏼
*Waves* Glad you’re in the moment 🙂
*Waving back* 👋🏼
Happy to hear that you got a break in the weather!
What a difference a day (or two) makes! Beautiful sunshine and hardly a cloud. I talked to another host today and she got shots of the AB last night. Weirdly, they didn’t see anything with the naked eye and were randomly taking sky shots and the AB showed up in the photos! So weird, very faint, but also very weird.
Hope today is just as gorgeous!
Hello!
Chanel 1957
Have a wonderful Saturday! 🌹
you too! you smell great

Lemony pastry 😍😍😍😋😋😋

And I am particularly proud of this caturday post:
https://www.instagram.com/p/C61gVnSuXs6/?igsh=MWJpdDl1ZWgyMjgxMQ==
This part is for comments back for some of the questions that were asked:
– I have several Zara fragrances besides Leather Jardin: Man Silver and a trio of tobacco fragrances
– I like red bottles but the funky psychedelic colors of Lush body products are a little too much for me regardless of the scent
Is the no-buy still on? Or did that go out the window?
Also – excellent Caturday post! 😀
It was no buy / low buy and we know how disciplined I am. Still better than the past few years, so there’s that 🤫
Good job doing better then!
Sounds like my “low-buy.” Nothing unsniffed dampens my purchasing, personally.
I didn’t know you were on a no buy. I must have missed that 🤣
Or maybe I got it wrong!
It was no buy / low buy. Soaps don’t count, do they? 🤣
Nope, soaps don’t count. Should they?
Nor candles, right?
Soaps absolutely do not count. 🙂
I’m trying to get motivated on a cold Sunday morning, but struggling to get off the couch. At least my clothes I smell fabulous in last night’s L’Astre, a recent Le Galion purchase.
A day on the couch once in awhile never hurt anybody 🙂
I am agreeing from my couch.
Frozen raspberry and yogurt smoothie
It a lovely 21C spring day, I ran errands all morning while wearing Bois Farine, can still detect it but as a skin scent and tonight I am in My Burberry Black parfum.
Love Bois Farine:)
It was so lovely on this day and more persistent than I first thought.
Enjoying fresh raspberries today as a late afternoon snack.
Yum, there are some here too but it’s early days.
Local raspberries are still a ways off here.
Calling all L’Artisan Voleur de Roses wearers out there! I spritzed some VdR for the first time and I’m trying to decide if the top notes are off or if it’s the scent itself.
It could be that I’m smelling the Geranium top note because overall, the fragrance keeps evolving from the top and there seems to be a consistent threat throughout. Hope this makes some sense to some of you Voleur wearers out there🌹
I did not like it when I first wore it and gave up on it. I’m probably the only one who thinks it smells like a dank wet basement.
No funky topnotes for me with Voleur de Roses. All I got was patchouli. And I was not upset about that in the slightest. 😊
Is this a bottle that had previously been spray and then left untouched for a while? This happened with my VdR, the perfume in the tube oxidized and went bad. I sprayed a few times to clear the bad juice and then it was fine.
If it’s a first spray, does it evolve and improve after time? I find the first few minutes can be difficult but the drydown is worth it. Probably the geranium note.
I think you’re right. It does evolve consistently throughout, unlike other perfumes I’ve had where the top notes are definitely off because they’re so distinctly different from the rest of the fragrance. And the geranium note is distinct.
As a side note, a friend surprised me with tickets to an art/fragrance event last night where Antonia Kohl, the owner of Ministry of Scent in SF and Mauricio Garcia of Herbcraft Perfumery were there to help us create our own fragrance. Antonia’s brother is involved in a performance art group in Seattle and she came to support/participate in a fundraiser.
I brought my bottle of Voleur and asked her to smell it. She said she hadn’t smelled it in a long time but that it smelled good to her😊
Wow! I bet that was a lot of fun.
It was! I never would have known about it unless my friend, who is involved in the local art scene had told me about it.
How cool is that! Glad you got a pro to weigh in on your perfume question.
My kind sister spied a vintage mini of Dolce Vita for $2 and nabbed it for me. That reminded me of my bottle so I’m smelling spicy-sweet, and of course rather ’90’s with that little bit of screechy-something I find in DV. Does anyone else get that? Maybe the cinnamon and wood? I am enjoying it all the same.
Oh score!
I’ve been having an extremely slow and lazy Saturday and indulging in my latest K-drama obsession, The King: Eternal Monarch, which is gloriously weird and romantic and gorgeous, with a ridiculously complicated plot that involves counterpart worlds and a few people who can travel between them…. It’s not at all my usual cup of tea but has caught my attention because of how beautifully it’s done.
My SOTD is Amoureuse by Perfumes DelRae, because yesterday Coumarin posted about acquiring one of their scents for a song. I am a silver fox today! Or should I say, silver vixen. 😉
On another front, I’m going to go visit my mother tomorrow for Mother’s Day, of course, and am being hit by this first significant holiday without my brother: now I’m the only one to be helping her celebrate. I know from past losses that each of these holidays will be hard, but somehow this one just seems especially unfair. On the plus side, due to her dementia, she does not know anything about his death, and it is a blessing, though a sad one. I will be picking up some flowers and maybe some other small token for her tomorrow morning.
I hope you have a nice visit with your Mom tomorrow.
That is hard Calypso…wishing you strength. Hope the visit goes well.
I’m so sorry. It’s hard to get through these milestones. Mother’s Day has always been a tough holiday for me, and I can’t imagine it without my sibling to help me through. But there is some blessing in dementia and in living in the past, as hard as it is for those of us still here in the present.
You will do your best, this I know.
Hugs.
I’m glad your mom isn’t really aware of the loss, although it is difficult for you. Hugs.
Very understandable feelings, hope you will still have a good visit with your mother
Hugs!
I hope your visit went well and there were good moments and not just sadness. Sending love.
Holidays are so difficult during these times. Hope you had a nice visit with your mother.
Chilling out and relaxing while Teflon kitty sits on my lap.
Last night’s Aurora Borealis WAS strong enough to be seen even in the Denver metro area. But I didn’t see it myself. I should have at least gone outside and taken a look, light pollution or no. There are plenty of pics on Colorado news sites. I will go outside tonight and take a look, since the solar storm lasts for more than one day. Hope there won’t be a bunch of clouds out.
SOTD = Zara Leather Jardin. On me, there is plenty of leather and almost no jardin. It’s easily unisex/genderless. Nothing at all like No. 19 to my nose. Linear scent thus far; I don’t notice any evolution. It does fade after the initial blast. The bottle is a nice heavy one, and I think it’s cute. So maybe hajusuuri and I can split the difference and call it cugly? The atomizer sprays a fine, even mist. And the cap has a magnetic closure. All in all, it’s a bona fide steal for the price if you like leather scents.
There is a Vetiver Pamplemousse perfume on the Zara site that may totally be up Robin’s alley… I was sorely tempted when I saw it!
Do you know what time we can look for it? I checked at 10 last night but didn’t see anything. Which could have been light pollution, of course.
Some websites I have checked are saying between 10pm and 2am. Most of them are mentioning between midnight and 2am.
Now I have to figure out whether I can get myself up at that time to check!
🥴😴
Another hint I have seen is to use your cellphone to take a picture of the sky. The camera can capture aurorae that the human eye can’t see.
Oh, it doesn’t sound like Leather Jardin was a like for you. I know there were some that were talking about obtaining a BUB so I am sure you could get rid of it if you want. I am wearing it today and get quite a bit of grapefruit. I like it, but don’t think I need another bottle as I don’t see myself wearing it as often as some others I have in my rotation.
I do like Leather Jardin. But it was not at all what I was expecting.
Oh, good.
It sounds like you do like Leather Jardin!
I don’t think Aurora Borealis was visible in these here parts but of course there’s plenty of coverage in the news.
I saw a couple news stories about people seeing the Aurora Borealis in North Jersey last night.
I am giving the clouds here the stink eye.
Inspired by Deva’s wearing of Coeur du Désert, I did a comparison of LADDM and Coeur du Désert today. Fortunately for my wallet, I prefer LADDM. It’s an interesting comparison, because they’re SO close and both beautiful, but there’s a stone / earth dimension to the early drydown in LADDM that’s not there in Coeur du Désert, and also Coeur du Désert goes sweet too early on me. I could see an FB of Coeur du Désert someday, but then, I have a 10-year-old bottle of LADDM (probably older) that I wear frequently and I’m still not even 1/4 into it (probably because one spray works for me), so probably not.
I love both versions and have a FB of both. LADDM is sometimes smells a little harsh on me so I wear the other.
Woke up this morning wearing PdE Musc Tonkin (applied last night before bed) from my little sample that I “re-found” when I did my most recent perfume declutter. It has aged extremely well and of course, now I want a bottle. I’ve always liked it but now, there is soft watercolor petals cushioned on the silky warm fur of, oh I don’t know…maybe ermine?
I really wished I aged the same as this parfum. Really stunning.
Just finishing sanitizing my tanks and then headed to the campground. I’ll miss seeing what you all are wearing on the daily, but will pop in occasionally as connectivity permits.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! Bi-pedal, tripod, quadruped, finned…it doesn’t matter. You’re taking care of and loving any of the above is a beautiful thing!
I thought I was aging pretty well. Then the pandemic happened. I swear it aged me ten years. I can’t even look in the mirror.
I turned 71 a few days ago.
One big lesson was what my eyes look out at, rather than what I see in the mirror.
I don’t remember to do this all the time, but I’m getting better at it.
That’s a good lesson to remember. Thank you apsara.
Ditto here – I look at pictures of me from 2019 and I look ten years older now, at least.
Cazaubon, I will be honest and say that the shutdown and all that came with it killed something in me. I aged from the inside out.
Same here!
I have to agree. It sapped my joie de vivre.
Sad but true.
I’ve had the same experience.
Have a great camping adventure Deva! I will look forward to you popping in!
I was horrified at the picture on my latest driver’s license. I looked at least ten years older than my actual age in it. Pandemic, plus other 💩.
I look great in my last picture which was 2017, I think. They let us go like 8 years here. Next picture will be something else!
My driver’s license pics went downhill the minute they stopped letting me wear my glasses.

This is for your Sad but True comment, but we ran out of room 🤘
Happy Sunday!
It’s beautiful here but the morning began at 40F and is supposed to hit 75 this afternoon. That’s a big range imo.
Wearing the original Prada Intense from a little decant. I’m watching my decants more closely so I can use them before they evaporate.
Enjoy your day however you spend it.
It really is gorgeous out!
Happy Mother’s Day ringthing ⚘️🌷
Same to you, lillyjo.
Happy Mothers Day to all Mothers. I am still in Eau Premiere because I am being a little lazy. We don’t know exactly what we want to do today. After my shower, I will wear Chergui. I found a bottle behind my nightstand. Who knows how it got there.
So lucky!
Happy Mother’s Day to the mothers out there.
It is going to be a warm one in South Dakota today – around 85 degrees so decided on Bronze Goddess Nuit. Though I am not fond of the original Bronze Goddess, I do like this one. Probably because it is a little more floral.
I tried the new one recently ( I can’t remember the name) I liked it.
The new one is Flora Verde. A lot of people seem to like it, but I can’t say that I did.
I will keep an eye out for BG Nuit the next time I’m at a department store.
Happy Mother’s day to all the Mom’s. I was supposed to have tonight off, but switched with a lady who really wanted it off.
My daughter was ungrounded yesterday so we went to the mall. I tried the new Killian Sun Goddess. It’s very nice. Similar to Soliel Blanc. It is not $300.00 nice. I also tested the new Alien Hyperscense. I actually liked it for about a half an hour, when it smelled like powdery Alien. Then it just turned into chemical smell, which I can still smell after showering.
My brother is having a tumor removed from his brain tomorrow. I stopped by to see him this morning and fought back bursting into tears. We are all very worried. It’s a very long surgery and will leave him deaf in one ear and a hearing aid in the other.
My sotd is Tendre Poison.
Oh dear, I am sending positive vibes for your brother. May it go as well as possible. Hugs.
Thank you!
I’m sorry, lillyjo. That’s so scary. Sending healing spritzes and hugs your way💗
Thanks allo. It is really scary because so much of the outcome is uncertain.
Your family is being hit hard with medical issues, hope the surgery is a complete success.
Thank you Aurora. Knock on wood for good health the rest of the year.
I will keep your brother in my prayers, Lillyjo. Hugs.
Thank you!
Oh lillyjo, I am so sorry. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts.
Thank you apsara.
I hope the surgery goes well, Lillyjo , and you get some hopeful news. Sending you a hug
Thank you Kanuka.
Oh lillyjo, I’m so sorry to hear about your brother. I hope for the best possible outcome. You will be in my thoughts.
Thank you ringthing.
I am so sorry about your brother, lillyjo. Good luck with the operation.
Thank you Glannys.
Money saved on your sniffing expedition with your daughter. Did the two of you make it to LUSH?
Hoping for the very best outcome with your brother’s surgery. Sending you thoughts of strength and healing. Hugs, dear friend.
Thank you Jalapeno.
I did get to Lush, and they didn’t have that shower tub gel yet.
Figures!
Sending prayers your way. I hope it goes smoothly and your brother has a good outcome/recovery.
Thank you Kris.
I am praying for your family and especially your brother.
Thank you hajusuuri. It is much appreciated.
Oh my goodness, that sounds like a very scary type of surgery to go through, both for the patient and for those around him like you. I join others in sending my very best wishes that it will go as well as possible, and that your brother will have a good recovery.
I’m so sorry to hear that, lillyjo. I am sending virtual hugs to you all and asking the universe to join in. ❤️
I hope all goes well (or has gone well if it’s over now). Thinking of you and your brother.
I’m wearing Rose Ardoise and cuddling with my puppy girl. First mother’s day without my mom. It’s been a hard week.
I’m sorry cazaubon. I am sending you Hugs❤️
Thanks lillyjo. 🙂
Oh, so sorry Cazaubon, may good memories help you on this day.
They definitely do! I was making a pie yesterday and remembered all the fun we had baking together.
Sending comforting hugs, Cazaubon! 🌻
Same to you, I know you are missing your mom too.
That’s really tough. I hope you had a good day, nevertheless.
It’s been a tough week but I’m grateful for the 58 years we had together.
I’m sorry for your hard week, and I’m glad you have a puppy to cuddle. Hugs.
Thank you❤️
Been a rough week for me as well.
Glad that you have Mila keeping you company.
Same to you with Teflon kitty. It’s been a rough few years for both of us, hasn’t it? Here’s to some smoother sailing going forward.
The first holidays are so hard. Thinking of you today.
Thank you Kris.
Hugs to you, cazaubon.
Thank you hajusuuri.
Very sorry ((((cazaubon))))🌹
Thank you Omega. My husband received your package btw.
It sucks, cazaubon. I lost my mom 12 years ago. I can’t say it gets better but you get a bit used to it. It still hurts. Sending you good wishes.
I’m so sorry, cazaubon. I hope you got comfort from your pup and, as Aurora said, happy memories of your mother. ❤️
Happy Mother’s Day! 🌹
Remembering my mother today in Dana Tabu, her signature scent.
Like Cazaubon, it is the first Mother’s Day without my mom, and it is very, very hard. My youngest sister and I went to church and to the cemetery early in the morning and back home. We decided not to gather together today since we are all very emotional. Instead, we will have brunch next Saturday with my aunt. I am relaxing for the rest of the day, watching TV and making pasta for dinner tonight. I need a quiet day.
Hugs to you pl67 ❤️
Thank you, Lillyjo!
That’s such a nice tribute to your mother. Sending love
Thank you, Kanuka.
Hugs to you. I’m having a quiet day at home too.
Thank you, Cazaubon.
So glad that you get some down time after your work schedule the last few weeks. Hugs to you, pl67.
Thank you, Ringthing.
More hugs, PL67.
Thank you, Jalapeno.
Hugs to you perfumelover67. I remember that first year with all the holidays without my mother. It is so hard. I don’t know if it gets easier with time, but the pain seems to lessen a bit.
Thank you, Kris. All first holidays have been very hard for us so far. I hope time makes the pain more bearable.
Sending you some hugs, pl67. I’m glad to hear you’re taking it easy today, be kind to yourself!
Thank you, Tulipani.
Hugs to you, perfumelover67.
Thank you, Hajusuuri.
I’m so sorry for your loss, pl67. I like the way you’ve chosen to honour her memory. Take care.
Thank you, Carole.
I hope you did have a restful day yesterday. Sending hugs!
Thank you, AnnE.
sending hugs and thoughts your way 🌹
Thank you, Omega.
My husband is in Jakarta and sent a photo of a perfume shop that is crammed floor to ceiling with plastic litre bottles of perfume dupes. The shop was huge and there was a shelf of “Tom Ford” all with “no brand” ( black on white) labelling. They decant into smaller bottles for purchase. From the photo all the customers were men. He sent the photo after his visit and said he chose four perfumes. I’m really interested to find out which ones, and to smell them, though I probably won’t have the originals to compare.
I have being testing the samples Gaynor sent me and am trying Harvest Mouse. I think it’s pretty but doesn’t have as much personality as I’d like. Maybe more of a dormouse?
I agree about Harvest Mouse. The opening is pleasant but it fades away quickly.
Intrigued about which four perfume dupes your husband chose!
Wow, wonder what he chose! What an amazing experience.
I like Harvest Mouse but I wish it had heartier grain notes.
Jakarta! That sounds incredibly exotic to me, and always makes me think of The Year of Living Dangerously. Wishing safe travels home for your DH! How nice that he brings you perfume home. Do report after you’ve tried them.
Had some really impressive thunderstorms roll thru late this morning. Teflon kitty was nowhere to be seen. She usually is up for a snuggle on the bed…
Missing my Mom this Mother’s Day.
SOTD = commando.
((((Jalapeno)))) 🌹 I am sorry, sending comforting thoughts ❤️
Thank you Omega.
Hope you can stay somewhat cool-ish later on this week.
Hugs to you Jalepeno.
Thanks Kris.
More hugs from me❤️
Thank you lillyjo. I can’t believe that it will be 3 years this August.
Gosh, I can’t believe it either.
You’ve really had a rough 3 years.
Hugs and love, Jalapeno.🌻
Thanks perfumelover 67.
Sending you a hug, Jalapeno. I hope Teflon kitty gives you some snuggles tonight!
Thank you tulipani. Teflon kitty was a lapcat earlier this evening. So she got the memo. 🐈😻
Hugs to you jalapeño.
Thanks hajusuuri.
Sending you hugs.
Thank you cazaubon. Hugs back!
More hugs! The pain will become less sharp as time passes.
Thanks AnnE. I don’t recall Mother’s Day 2023 being so sad. I figure I will have ups and downs on holidays for quite a while.
Perhaps you’re right. But I hope it does get easier for you.
I’m sorry, Jalapeño. I hope your week improves. Fragrant hugs.
Thank you ringthing. Feeling better today after a decent night’s sleep.
Commando today
Was able to get some things done today despite me not feelin up for it lol.
In the 90s here..soon triple digits..then hibernation
lolol. Gets too hot to go out much.
Shower then maybe some Youth Dew powder puffs:)
Have a wonderful Sunday! 🌹
Hey, I have a commando twin today! Didn’t expect that. 😉
😊
That reminds me that I have Youth Dew powder if I can find it. It’s lovely.
Nice:) Scented powders are great. I was thinking Lush should make a Rose Jam powder, I would be all over that lol.
This article about perfume gathering and the role of jasmine in India might be of interest (you can read a certain number of articles for free on this site): https://www.townandcountrymag.com/style/beauty-products/a60472448/jasmine-trail-journey-perfume-history/
I am struck re-reading this page by how fraught the holiday of Mother’s Day is. It is a mixed day for me because I both have and do not have my own mother, but at least I can see her and hug her. She was not at all well or “with it” when I visited yesterday. There were some other family members like me there in the dining room visiting our loved ones in Memory Care and we all shared this kind of sad limbo state of experience. It is important though to show you care. My mother can only eat pureed food now and so I fed her the entire meal one spoonful at a time. It was tedious yet touching. I don’t know if she will still be around for another year’s celebration.
Hugs to you. It is indeed a fraught holiday, especially when you get to our age.
Calypso, I know how you feel. Both of my parents “disappeared” before they were actually gone. It sounds as if your mom is well-cared for and content. Hugs to you!
My mother and grandmother had the same disease and now I go around teaching about it as a volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association. Unfortunately, it is a very hard disease to watch, and I know exactly how you feel, but you are doing the right thing. Just being there for her is all that really matters. Lots of hugs/love is what counts💗
That’s impressive you are now a volunteer educator! I wonder, have you yourself considered getting tested for Alzheimer’s? I wonder about that in my own case. Maybe I don’t want to know. I know from my reading that it can be important just to be there and to love, hug, kiss, and touch the affected person, because they can sense your care. So I try to do that. And thanks to all of you who commented here. AnnE: Yes, we’re very fortunate that the place we found has excellent, patient, and attentive caregivers. It makes such a difference.
I have decided not to get tested. I am 65 and my husband and I have all our affairs in order, so I don’t feel there is any big advantage of me knowing. If you have the deterministic gene, which is rare, that means you have 100% chance of getting Alzheimer’s. If you have the risk gene, it just means you are at risk for it, but will not necessarily get it. With both my mother and my grandmother having it, I am afraid I may have the deterministic gene and I frankly would rather not find out. Who knows. It was not on my father’s side. My background as a gerontological nurse helps me with educating others and it is one way for me to help out a little.
Ach. That was a tough visit indeed. Hugs, Calypso.
Wearing Mitsouko edp on this quiet overcast day.
Great scent!
Mitsouko is gorgeous.
Another beautiful day, even though it’s Monday.
I’m wearing Chanel Allure edt, and my CP tie-in is that I’m baking peach cobbler with lemon zest in the glaze.
Your baking project made my mouth water! 😋
I worded that incorrectly, sadly there’s no actual cobbler being baked. It was just what I was imagining when I tried to tie Allure to baking.
Aw, that’s a shame.
You know I finally was able to smell the edt ( I’ve only known the edp) I think I like it better. I still have to try the sensuelle version.
Sensuelle is nice, along the lines of a more upbeat Coco to my nose.
Today’s plans are to head to the local zoo. I am trying to get a couple people moving if they want to go. I am debating on either Courtesan or no 19 since it is going to be near 80 degrees out. I am leaning towards Courtesan.
Have fun at the zoo!
Monday morning and I’m in Mediterraneo. Lovely stuff, on a lovely morning. Our sprinklers came on for the first time this year, so summer (true summer) must be just around the corner!
Enjoy your lovely day and scent! It’s my favorite of the line. ☀️
Wearing some Eau de Magnolia on a somewhat cool day. Was just hearing about M. Malle stepping away from his company, and am wondering whether I should proactively buy a backup bottle.
I thought the same thing when I heard that a few weeks ago, but someone mentioned the scents will probably be around for quite a while. I hope so.
Might be time to get a travel spray of POAL while I still see those around.
I can’t remember if you like Iris Poudre, but they have small ones of those as well. I guess they may be considered travel sprays. I think they are closer to about an ounce though now when I think about it.
Nordie’s has POAL in a 10mL format, which is the perfect size. But I’ve seen a lot of reviews saying it’s been reformulated.
Oh, no. Really?
Yep. A fair amount of grousing that the current perfume is not as strong as it was previously.
Which means that a sniff test is in order.
Good to know, I will have to see whether there are any Malles that I cannot live without.
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDT
Love this EDT, but, you know, EDP is my first 💚!

No. 19 is so soothing in any iteration. Perfect for Mondays.
It’s perfect everyday!
It’s a chilly morning here, but looking very promising for a sunny day. I’m wearing Ashoka from Neela Vermeire.
Hope you got that sun Gaynor!
Hello!
Chanel Paris-Riveria
Hugs to everyone 🌹
Riviera* lol
Hugs Omega!
Been wearing this T-shirt for the past couple of days. I think it suits my mood: https://www.meowingtons.com/collections/apparel/products/life-is-tough-but-so-are-you-cat-t-shirt
Switched up the scented lotion today to Dionis Verbena & Cream. It kind of smells like a citronella candle. I should see if it helps keep bugs away. 🐛🦟🦟🪰🪰🦗🐜🪲
Temps are expected to be in the upper 70’s for a couple of days, then another cool/cold front comes thru. Not quite back to the weather roller coaster, but plenty of yoyo-ing temperatures for a while.
SOTD = commando again.
Great t-shirt! Enjoy your pleasant weather when you get it.
Thanks! It’s been a little unsettled here recently. I’ve been joking with my brother about the daily 3pm shower and/or thunderstorm.
Cute t-shirt!
I like the Dionis hand creams. I usually only use the unscented.
I found a multipack of Dionis hand creams in the travel size at Costco last year. Been trying out the various scents this year. It may say hand cream, but it works just fine on shins, too.
I should get that t-shirt.
If you do, be aware that their T-shirts run long.
Love the shirt:)
Lol also this funny

Estee Lauder Beautiful Magnolia Intense
Ooh they have an intense version? I really liked the original
