Happy Almost-Friday! It's also National DNA Day, World Penguin Day and Ella Fitzgerald’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Diptyque L'Ombre dans L'Eau, because allo wore it yesterday, and because it's a good match with the grounds of the National Mall (a favorite park as a child, when it was much less crowded than it is these days), particularly the Kathrine Dulin Folger Rose Garden administered by The Smithsonian.
Reminder: 4/26 is Frederick Law Olmsted's birthday. Wear a fragrance that connects to a public park you love, or wear something green (Olmstead liked greenery over showy flowers), or that evokes a Frederic Law Olmsted quote, or ?? Mugler day 4: B*Men, bright and rhubarbative, such fun.
I love your new word there!
Your invented word reminds me of the French word rebarbative, which means off-putting, but I’m sure you meant it in a complimentary way. 😉
It’s not invented! At least not by me. I guessed that the adjectival form was “rhubarbaceous”, but I looked it up and “rhubarbative” is the actual dictionary word that means “having the qualities of rhubarb”. Imagine my surprise!
Wow, I am beyond excited to learn this new word! It’s so perfect!
Wow, I am amazed.
A cousin is a huge rhubarb fan, in perfume and life in general, so she shares your rhubarbative taste…
As for rebarbative, the word make me think of cranky men sporting prickly beards.
LOL
“Rhubarbative” rolls off the tongue in such a fun way!
Hello.
Sotd is LVEB Iris Absolu. Got a compliment and the nice man asked if it was a rose perfume! It’s been quite a while since I had last been complimented on my perfume so I am happy. I did tell him what I was wearing.
I was mulling this over on Tuesday! I am still trying to get a sample but at Macy’s, getting a small sample is like asking the SA to give up their first-born loved child!
Really? Not at my Macy’s. They have the bottle out on the counter.
The bottle is out on the counter – I was looking for a sample.
Got it!
Always nice to get compliments on scent! I haven’t tried that one, got me curious now:)
I have it too, glad you received a nice compliment.
Hurray for a perfume compliment!
Un Jardin Sur Le Nil for me today.
Un Jardin twins!
Love this one, you smell great:)
I’m wearing Ninfeo Mio because it is very green and comes in a green bottle, was named after a famous Italian garden and is one of the few fragrances I actually enjoy when I’m not feeling great (nothing major, just the remnants of a migraine).
That’s one is on my list for this week, too. Hope you headache skedaddles soon!
It has gone!
Ninfeo Mio is a wonderful warm weather perfume.
I’m in Bucoliques de Provence, for the many, many parks in Provence. Reading about them on Wikipedia makes me wonder how there is room for anything BUT parks there! It also makes me want to go there and just breathe — surely the air is different there than anywhere else.
Provence is a magical place. The air is very dry, and it often smell of the garrigue. Bucoliques smells far tamer than the actual region but it is a lovely scent.
“Garrigue” is a word I just learned today while reading about the Provence region. And your description makes me want to go there even more!
One of my favorite L’Artisans..iirc, I think it was Robin who piqued my interest in trying it and glad I did. It’s lovely and happy that I got an FB. I heard that this is only sold at boutiques now or something..that it isn’t available like it used to be.
I feel very lucky, then, to have sprung for a FB while it was still available. I don’t wear it often, but I always enjoy it when I do.
Wearing Un Jardin en Méditerranée today and my, doesn’t it smell figgy and wonderful. Say it with me, why don’t I wear this more often?
My husband is cutting down a maple tree in the front yard. He’s doing a good job but I can’t watch, it makes me so nervous!
I loved Un jardin en Méditerranée, unfortunately both my bottles turned and I never repurchased.
Méditerranée is probably my favorite Jardin:) Very nice!
I found Un Jardin en Mediterranee fascinating when I tried it. A travel spray would be the perfect size for me, though.
Guerlain Liu. It is a floral perfume, but I have not worn it in a while, and I thought it has green notes. There is something green in the opening (from aldehydes, I think), but honestly not enough to call this a green perfume. So no points for me today, I guess.
House twins
House twins. I am sure that I have a decant running around somewhere.
Starting the day in “Halfeti Rose” from DSH. Have a great Thursday, everyone!
You too Daniel!
Inspired by Hajusuuri, I’m going to go with Synthetic Jungle today. Is it Friday yet? 🙂
LOL wish it was! My ice cream shop opens for the season tomorrow. 🙂
I hope they have your favorite flavor waiting for you!
Everyday is Friday afternoon! You smell wonderful!
Sipping chai and my in-laws are making me dosa this morning with lots of coconut chutney. Breakfast of champions.
Néroli Outrenoir is my SOTD
Starting to read Don’t look at me like that by Diana Athill
Wow, what a breakfast treat! And you’re smelling lovely.
You smell fabulous!
I like the tea note in this one
After my workout I’ll be wearing Lancome Mille et Une Roses for the beautiful rose gardens in Portland, OR and Seattle, WA (and likely so many other cities as well).
I wish I had LTSG’s breakfast (above) but I’m having my usual bowl of oats with chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, apple and yogurt so I can’t really complain.
You smell wonderful!
Thanks! I do!
I sent you an email earlier in case you wonder who it is from😊
Just saw this, Kris, thanks. I will reply when I get home.
Passing you virtual chai and dosa
Yum – thank you!
I have wonderful memories of the Portland Rose Garden. It was part of a family vacation many moons ago. Some of those roses were the size of my head!!
It’s really beautiful!
Another day of “whatever I grab”. Today is Jeffrey Dame Musc Neutre. I like it.
Speaking of musk, has anyone tried Nicolai Poudre de Musc? I ordered something from Luckyscent and then had them throw in a sample of this Just curious on any thoughts. I have not had the best luck with this perfume house, but keep sampling 😊
I like Musc Neutre too.
It smells happy and clean.
Yes, it does though my guess is that it doesn’t project much.
Really like Poudre de Musc–am partial to floral/aldehyde combos.
Thanks for the information.
Wearing a homeopathic dose of Tobacco Honey, due to its nuclear strength. Going to Holt Renfrew this afternoon with another perfumista from Basenotes to check out the revamped Guerlain counter.
Report back!
I really love Tobacco Honey, you smell fantastic, have fun!
Oooh, please let us know. Enjoy!
Please report back!!
Very curious to hear about your explorations!
I’m wearing Melograno and buckling down to write my self-performance appraisal for work. Argh, a most dreaded annual task!
Yuck, my all-time least favourite faff (aka admin) part of my job, beating filing claims for professional development funds.
Bletch! Self performance appraisals suck.
Moving my grandmother to memory care today. I am expecting her to have a fit but she needs more care than what anyone can provide. Wearing Guerlain L’heure de Nuit today.
Sending thoughts your way, Heure d’Nuit is one of my favorites, you smell lovely
Good luck Dawn, she may end up liking it.
That’s always a difficult decision. I had trouble doing it with my mother, but it had to be done. I was fortunate that I had worked in that area for most of my life so knew about Alzheimer’s and dementia. Now I volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association to educate people regarding the disease. It is good to have supportive family members like you. Hugs to you.
My sister and I are both enrolled in studies for Lewy Body through Als.
It’s a little scary, but we are both doing tests later this summer to see if we have the gene.
I am reluctant to get the test to see if I have the Alzheimer’s gene. My grandma, her sisters and my mom all had Alzheimer’s so I probably will too. I don’t really want to know. All my affairs are in order so not sure the benefit. Glad you are doing the test since it apparently feels right for you and your sister.
Oh, my, I worry about this too and also avoid testing.
I’ve been through this, but fortunately, found a good place with nice caregivers, and by the time we moved my mom, she didn’t really mind or notice it any more. I hope your grandma can adjust fairly well. Lewy Body dementia is genuinely concerning.
We did with my dad, he was a danger to my mom and to himself.
Not easy, so try to rest easy with your decision.
That’s very difficult, but your grandmother will be safe and cared for.
My thoughts are with you, and I hope all goes well. We went through this with my grandfather 10 years ago. Never an easy decision.
Such a difficult decision to make for a loved one. Hugs to you, and I hope it works out.
I’m getting a lot of nature recently, Olmsted or no Olmsted! Took my chair down by the river at dusk last night and watched a deer parade on the other side as a huge herd came down to drink and gambol. T-Rex is so good, just sat right next to me watching them very attentively, but no barking or whining. Some amazing ombré striped lizards are all over racing around under the very dry duff. They’re about as long as my hand and a few more inches for the tail. Also got a text from my boss yesterday (who is already up in the campground area) that said they saw thee Big Horn sheep right by my campground! Can’t wait to see them!
As for perfume, I’m wearing SSS Forest walk which is wonderfully green, plus a whole lot more like some nice understated florals, wet moss, and a bit of loamy earth.
Cooler today (Thank gawd!) so we are off to hunt down some petroglyph’s and pictographs.
I admired TRex’s stays the other day on your Instagram. Speaking of which, I think you’ve changed the settings to private?
Thanks, she’s had quite a few fails recently, but when the Urge to Herd (or the urge to snap a mouse’s neck) comes over her, it’s really tough for her to remember her commands! Generally, she’s pretty good though. I changed my setting back to public. I was messing around and forgot to switch it back. I’m getting ready to dump a crap ton of petroglyphs on IG! Very successful this morning and I bought a very extensive book in the gift shop about the petroglyphs and pictographs in the Uinta Basin area, so I’m planning on trying to identify which era the ones I photoed came from because I’m a dork! 🤓
I very much admired both the lizard with the very long tail and the large herd of deer on your Insta.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😃 This evening I’m taking my binoculars riverside to see what I can see. I wish I had a decent camera so I could get better photos and videos…
Maybe those lizards you saw were skinks? I’d see them on rare occasions in SE Idaho and northern Utah.
It was a Western Whiptail. Apparently juveniles have a blue tail. I’d love to see one!
https://www.summitpost.org/western-whiptail-juvenile/359088
OMG, I remember those! Very sleek and quick little guys.
Sahara Noir from a mini, regret not getting an fb of this one:/
Don’t hate me, I have a bottle😀, the good thing is it’s so potent your mini might last a good while.
Haha, no hate from me, glad you got one! Yes, my mini has lasted a while! 🙂
Wish I would have tried Sahara Noir while it was around.
I’m in Sur le Nil.
I think I have decided that I don’t love this one and it may get voted off the island. I went through a decant quickly, so ordered a bottle and I hardly ever reach for it.
It’s absolutely gorgeous and sunny out today. I’m working by an east facing window so I’m trying to soak up all the rays I can because the next three days are supposed to rain. My days off.☹️
Oh, figures it will rain through your days off!! Sorry madtowngirl.
Went for Coudray Iris Rose, the scent is delightful but Coudray’s packaging is rubbish, the caps crack, the atomiser heads get broken, I have 3 bottles and only 1 atomiser head works. Tonight it’s Fragonard Grain de Soleil, a comfort scent for me, but don’t wear it in summer in spite of the name, it’s too rich.
Wow, that is terrible packaging! It sounds even worse than the original Omnia bottles. Those didn’t spray worth a d@mn.
Isn’t it, oh yes, Omnia bottle, no good, I have it only because the scent is worth it.
SOTD = Jo Malone Forest Moss Cologne
Nice! Out of sight, out of mind.

What’s up with companies changing names of perfumes? I’m sure there are more examples but for just Frederic Malle, there are two examples: Synthetic Jungle (2021) to now Synthetic Nature (2024) and Une Rose (2003) to now Rose Tonnerre (2021), supposedly without any reformulation between 2003 and 2021. I thought there were rules about naming perfumes but of course we’ll never know the true reason for the change unless someone knows for sure.
Estee Lauder can do what it wants with the names to appeal to the audience. And right now that is China and their duty free stores.
SOTD from the vault – JM Black Veteyver Cafe.
Oh, I haven’t smelled that one for years. I loved it.
So true!
Changing names gets to be a bit confusing sometimes, Guerlain ppl told me recently that the Fève Gourmande is just the the same as Gourmand Coquin, just a different name. I was like oh, this does smell familiar some! Lol.
I do think Guerlain is the worst in this regard…and in their case, seems more like trying to fool consumers into thinking things are new and special.
I’ve heard that those two name changes were due to copyright issues. But that doesn’t make much sense to me, you would think the legal team would have checked these things beforehand. So, who knows!
Pretty bottle today! That color reminds me of Gucci Memoire d’une Odeur.
No CP for me today, but Coco Noir, which I quite like. I saw it this morning as I was tidying up my shelves and it said: “wear me!” Beautiful day today here. Mr. Mossy and I will take the year’s first walk to our favorite Mexican restaurant tonight. It will be a little cool, but I always enjoy the walk home in the dusk.
I love that one and use it along with the body cream. I tend to wear it in the cooler months.
Which version of Coco Noir do you have, EdP or parfum?
Edp, and I really should try the body cream and the parfum one of these days.
It’s pouring rain here and I am just getting around to putting on perfume. I had an emergency dental appointment this morning after I discovered two areas of decay, and then the dentist found another one when I was in the chair. Now I have a prescription toothpaste and mouthwash to use every evening. Getting older is not easy. SOTD is Grandiflora Boronia. I used to make a boronia scented soap when I was soapmaking, and I have to say that the soap fragrance oil I used smells better than the Grandiflora. Too bad.
I still have items available at the Swapmeet!
I am sorry about your dental woes. I’ve been going through them too and need another visit soon to get the final fixes done on a new crown (it had to be reshaped in the lab). I like the Boronia but haven’t every smelled any other boronia products, so have nothing to compare it to. I’m so behind I have not visited the Swapmeet yet but I should go look!
Emergency dental appointment – oh no! My sympathies.
Ew, emergency dental appointments are painful in more ways than one. Hope that your wallet didn’t take too much of a hit.
For the cp, I’m in Birch in Acacia by Scents of Wood. This is lovely and easy to wear, lightly spiced woods but not a typical woody perfume to me. It’s kinda hard to describe but very soothing.
Your SOTD sounds very intriguing! Would you call it a wood pudding?
It is really intriguing. It’s sorta kinda wood pudding but a bit more mineral or savory feel to the wood and definitely doesn’t read as sweet gourmand. Definitely worth sampling.
In Eris Green Spell for the CP.
Happy Thursday! 🌻
👍 my SOTD for tomorrow, I think. You smell wonderful.
Thank you, Hajusuuri! It is one of my favorite green scents.
Aha! I have found another fan of Green Spell here at NST! I knew that allo and hajusuuri loved it.
Joining the club! I love green scents, and Green Spell is amazing!
Yes!
I’ve taken the day off so that I get a long weekend after our Anzac national holiday yesterday. It’s a glorious sunny autumn morning, and we went out early for breakfast.
I’m planning a day of doing things that I’ve been meaning to do for ages, and I’m starting with taking some clothes to a charity shop.
I’m accompanying all this with Noir de Noir.
One of my Facebook friends has been in New Zealand touring recently and went to a wedding of one of his friends in the Bay of Isles (?) yesterday, and to Waitangi park. His pictures of that area were so beautiful!
Bay of Islands 🙂 . It’s a beautiful area, I haven’t been up that way in a long time.
I hope your Facebook friend visits the south of the South Island, Central Otago and Fiordland are the best parts of the county in my opinion.
Smelling great in Noir de Noir!
I’m late to the party but for the CP today I am wearing LOTS of L’Artisan Premier Figueir Extreme. It is probably the most green and juicy scent I own and I’ve got a big bottle of it–ought to wear it more often.
For my new Mediterranean diet menu for dinner tonight I am making a broccoli frittata with some bits of smoked salmon and topping of parmesan. It also includes some green peas. I’m eager to give this a try.
Is this a new cookbook?
No, it was an online program I signed up for. But if you want a recipe I mention, I’ll be happy to share it with you.
No points for me today in beloved Caleche. I needed something quick because I overslept this morning…
And you smelled marvelous!
Just popping in quickly – SotD is Diptyque Fleur d’Oranger in honor of our wedding 26 years ago today. We got married in a garden setting in California, and it was the first time I had ever seen orange blossoms growing *outside!* 😄
Happy Anniversary, Ann!
Thank you!
Congratulations! Yes, orange trees in bloom are lovely, but I still have yet to see them in bloom except in pictures.
Thanks, and I hope you will see them in person some day!
Happy Anniversary! 🥂
Thank you!
Congratulations on the anniversary!
Aww, thanks!
Happy Anniversary!
Thank you!
Happy Anniversary, and may you have many more!
Thanks so much!
Happy Anniversary!! What an accomplishment!
I’ll say! 😂 No really, thank you.
The happiest of anniversaries to you and yours, Ann!
Thank you so much!
What a lovely wedding memory!
🤗
Today was a birdwatching bonanza for me! No penguins, but I did see a bald eagle flying when I was on my way to Costco. And then later on in the afternoon, I spotted a pelican flying over my apartment complex. I didn’t realize they were up here in Colorado! Both birds were seen close to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Vrain_State_Park
SOTD = commando, except for Dionis Verbena and Cream lotion. Was in a hurry to get things done and forgot perfume.
I’m a fan of Pelicans. They’re such crazy looking and diving birds.
I definitely did a double take when I saw that one earlier today. Can’t mistake that face for anything else!
And why is there no pelican emoji??
Totally!
PdE Yuzu Fou! I haven’t worn this recently and was drawn to its greeny goodness today.
Perfect.
Today I wore Ultimate Beach Day by Clean. It has not been a good day regarding my daughter and the school. I go back for another meeting Monday morning.
I’m feeling rather deflated tonight.
I’m so sorry, Lillyjo. I’m hoping you and the school can come to some kind of arrangement about what will be best for your daughter. I’m sending you a hug.
Thank you foxbins. That means a lot.
So sorry to hear 🌹, hope it goes better next time
Sending more hugs and hopes for a positive outcome on Monday🌸
I’m so sorry, lillyjo. That must be hard on you both. Perhaps you can put it aside long enough to get a good night’s sleep tonight, and you will feel better tomorrow. Sending hugs. 💕
Thank you AnnE. That’s my plan. I will be going to bed soon.
Aw, really sorry lillyjo. Hope the next meeting goes better.
Such a bummer to hear this. Hang in there, amiga! I know that you are doing your best for your kids.
Sending more hugs.
