It's Tuesday, plus World Book Day, St George’s Day, UN English Language Day and Shakespeare Day. Look for the Full Pink Moon tonight, and do check out the swapmeet in the meantime! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in L'Eau de L'Artisan, to vaguely recall the (somewhat swampy) pond in the park closest to my house.
Reminder: 4/26 is Frederick Law Olmsted's birthday. Wear a fragrance that connects to a public park you love, or wear something green (Olmstead liked greenery over showy flowers), or that evokes a Frederic Law Olmsted quote, or ?? Morning,
House twin with Robin, in Histoires d’Oranger. Love L’eau , too. I was out gardening until late last night-well, using a small chainsaw and axe so more like guerilla gardening- and it was so cold, and the moon was stunning. Must be the pink moon coming at us.
I look forward to reading what all you good smellin’ peeps are wearing 🙂
Your gardening adventure sounds great! I was sawing away yesterday too, but smaller jobs and by hand. It was just nicely cool here.
That does sound like guerilla gardening!
Hello.
Sotd is Dior Oud Ispahan.
Horrible weather continues. This morning the sky was dark as can be, rain so thick you couldn’t see through it and explosive thunderclaps that shook my windows. Forecast says 6 more days of this ahead.
Ugh! That is a lot of rainy days.
Wow, that sounds like monsoon weather.
I’m continuing the Jardin series with Le Jardin de Monsieur Li. Very citrusy.
Yum, I might wear that tomorrow.
I am giving Hermes Eau de Basilic Pourpre another chance. Nope. Not enough basil, not enough green.
The web design firm working on my new WordPress website finished all the back-end work and sent me a report. Now it is time for me to select a theme.
In the meantime, I updated my existing website. As some of you suggested, I moved my portrait to About page and put an AI generated image on the front page. I went with yellow and blue colors (Ukrainian flag) and images associated with translation, writing etc. What do you think?
https://ukrloctrans.netlify.app/
Glannys, my brother tested this for me and his assessment is the same as yours. I wanted to try it but I think it’s money saved, for me 🙂
Yeah, I think Robin mentioned she was disappointed, too.
Wow, I think your website looks very impressive! I like that cover image a lot!
Website looks great!!
I agree with the others, the website looks great!
Love your website!
It looks great, Glannys. I’m curious about translation in general. Is American spelling ( with a ‘z’) rather than U.K ( with a ‘s’) the industry standard/ norm? I know it is for most peer-reviewed journals so just curious. When you did work for Land River, for example, did you use American spelling or British?
I think it depends on a client. Usually they specify whether they want British English or American English. But a British or American translator would be able to answer your question better.
You see, the norm for professional translators is to translate only into one’s native language. I think it started with the UN recommendations, and now it is the industry standard (although exceptions are possible). I used to translate into English for internal use, so nothing for publications, customer literature etc. Obviously, in such cases nobody really cared whether I used British or American spelling or the mixture of both.
So for Land Rover, I translated from English to Ukrainian, not the other way back.
Thanks Glannys. Good luck with your work. It’s a great site.
Wonderful improvement.
It’s great, Glannys!
Sorry about all the bad news you got yesterday. I hope your week is getting better.
Thank you, Glannys.
The website looks good!
It looks great, Glannys, that cover image is very cool.
Your website looks great!
Thanks, everyone. Glad to hear you like the new image – I think the website needed a splash of color.
House twins
Looks great, Glannys! I love the image and colors. 🇺🇦
I agree, it looks fantastic! I really like how quickly my eye can move over the page. Just enough info without being too much or too busy. Also, I’m a big fan of the color blocking on the secondary pages. ✌🏼
Your website looks great! The blue and yellow add just the right amount of “pop” to your main page. The rest of the design is still clean and easy to navigate.
Dior Dune today. I tried to resist buying anymore vintage edt, (one partial bottle I got is a little off) but succumbed to a full-in-box 30ml. Success! It’s a 1994, and though the juice darkened, the scent is true. Perfect for a cool, Spring day or, for me, anytime.
I have the best memories of Dune, from about 1993. You smell divine, and I love the bottle, too.
One of my absolute favorites. You smell amazing.
Nice, very nice! I actually don’t really know the modern color. Mine are orangey.
Is the current Dune nothing like the vintage? Is it worth trying?
I’ve never tried Dune but it gets mentioned so often here that I’ve been very curious, yet I’m reluctant to chase the vintage, having never sniffed any version of it.
You smell wonderful,.Dune is one of my favorites.
Lucky you! I’ve been a tiny bit obsessed with finding another bottle of vintage Dune since my previous one went off. 😥 I never wore it when it came out, but somehow I discovered it. Now I’m besotted.
Dune is one of a kind. I can’t think of anything else that smells like it.
Day two of Mugler just for fun, and today it’s Angel Liqueur de Parfum 2013, a dark, boozy variation on the original, probably my favourite version (although if I had some of the original 1992 in perfect condition, that would take the prize: it’s really never been bettered).
Mugler perfumes *are* all about the fun! I was late to the party. Alien intrigued me and I wore it a few times. But Aura edt lured me in, and soon I could like and often love any and all. Have you ever tried Eau de Star?
Sure have! I got a bottle very cheaply, and it was fun while it lasted — Angel with the peppermint note from A*Men added and boosted, giving it a toothpastey quality — but over the course of a few years it turned from cerulean to a swampy brownish green, and the scent itself degraded accordingly, so in the end I had to chuck it.
I was a Mugler fan from day one: the original as soon as it was launched in Canada, ditto with A*Men, then flanker after flanker from both lines (seven in total), plus Alien and Aura.
You smell great today pyramus. I suspect I like LdP better than original Angel, but since I can’t go back to 92 today I can’t say for sure.
If I had a time machine, my collection would look *very* different.
Ditto!
Have you tried the cologne? I have a little bit of what I think is an older version, and it’s great in balmy weather.
Good morning! SOTD is FM Iris Poudre for a day in the office. As I’m taking the subways more often now for mandatory office days, I try keeping it low key.
I had an interesting time viewing archival lace pieces at The Met yesterday. My favorite was this bobbin lace piece made out of hair: https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/210096
You wouldn’t think it was human hair unless viewed up close. We didn’t get to touch it but the curators who have said that it does feel stiff, unlike thread.
Love your SOTD. Just curious — if allowed, would you touch a book bound with human skin? I believe Harvard has a few of these books and they have been removed from circulation.
Oof what a tough question. On one hand, I’d do it out of curiosity, but on the other, I wouldn’t want to unless we know for sure that the skin was donated by the person when they were alive and that they knew what it was going to be made into.
There’s a good book called Dark Archives: A Librarian’s Investigation into the Science and History of Books Bound in Human Skin. It talks about many of the issues surrounding this.
Interesting! I will look it up!
Nope! Not at all interested in that.
That lace is gorgeous!
It really is! Paper-thin and ethereal. It was meant to be a fan I believe.
Wow, what a piece! I cannot tell at all that it’s made from hair, granted the photo isn’t great. I knit lace, but it’s so rudimentary compared to bobbin lace. I’m in awe.
Knit lace is wonderful! I’m not there yet with my own knitting but hope to one day.
There are online classes offered by the Lace Museum if you ever want to learn bobbin lace. I have heard very good things about the beginner class, even the ones run virtually: https://thelacemuseum.org/virtual-education/
Thanks for the terrific link! I’d love to just take one of the courses on understanding lace.
You are wearing one of my favorite scents. I need to get a BUB of this.
Sometimes Jomashop has them for reduced prices 😉
Yes, I bought my other ones from them.
That bobbin lace is so intricate! I can’t believe it’s hair and not thread.
That bobbin lace is beautiful! And human hair can be surprisingly strong if it isn’t damaged.
Hello all!
Feeling pretty good in some Une Fleur de Cassie today. It might be a bit strong for the heat but it was chilly last night. Sometimes you can’t stop a craving.
I seamed together the body of the summer tee I’m knitting and it’s about 5″ shorter than my preference! (Damn being tall 🥲) Luckily it fits perfectly width-wise. The pattern calls for ribbing on the bottom but 5″ of it might be a bit extreme and would overwhelm the pattern. I’m mulling over my options in my head while I work the sleeves.
Have a great day everyone!
Coumarin, congrats on your summer tee. You could do a simple crochet border or pick up stitches and do an eyelet or ruffly bottom.
Thank you! I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. That’s a good idea, though I’m much less confident with a hook. I’ll have to poke around and see what inspiration I can dig up online.
When I saw the photo on IG I thought it looked a bit short, and I thought maybe cropped shirts are back in style? 😃 I hope you’re able to find a way to “un-crop” it. It looks like a lovely soft yarn. 🧶
Somehow, “un-crop” as a word looks and sounds wrong 🤣
Cropped is VERY in these days. My friends say I should keep it as is, but I’m not really into exposing my belly button unless there is water involved.
Ha! Even if water is involved I’m not exposing mine as a public service. 😆
Right there with ya, Deva.
Feeling very hairy-chested in Bijan For Men.😊 My bottle is from the late 80s, and it’s in great shape.
That’s a fun one! Though I admit I tend to wear the feminine more.
I need to try the feminine!
You should! It’s an orange blossom bomb with spices and incense.
Bet that smells good! I always liked the women’s and have a soft spot for the distinctive pacifier bottle.
I’m wearing SL Cuir Mauresque from the tall black tippy bottle. All my samples and decants were from the older rectangular bottles and think the formula was changed when they went with the new (kinda not new at this point) packaging. It’s lost all its “ROAR!” Now it simply “meows.” So sad. I still like, just not as much. 💔
Tea of the day is steaming coffee. We’ve made it to a bit cooler weather and there’s nothing better than that first cup of coffee on a cold morning.
In other unimportant news, I was “reading” a book last night where one of the main characters is “hypernosmic,” which I thought interesting.
I have the “ROAR” version of CM, so much so that one spray is more than enough. If you want some, let me know, I will never get through this bottle.
Thanks very much for the offer, but I think I just continue with my watered down version and continue to complain about it…😉
Inspired by Deva yesterday, I’m in Corsica Furiosa today and loving every greeny blast. If this scent was a cocktail, I’d drink it every day!
Me too! 🍹
I am packing up the swapmeet stuff and found a sample of Oriza L. Legrand Empire des Indes, so I poured it on. It’s very nice but quite soft, I think I would like it more if it were punchier.
I will have to do some research for the CP this week, green notes aren’t my thing but I love parks and people’s quotes, so I am sure to find something.
OK, I need advice. What is a suitable high school graduation gift these days? It’s for my great nephew, I’ve never met him, and he’s joining the Air Force in September.
money.
cold hard cash.
OK–how much?
Well, I guess it depends on your finances.
I like to give and get crispy one hundred dollar bills, but I am giving more than I am getting these days.
A Pilot watch. Something traditionally associated with flying that no one else will think of and will last forever. There are really good ( cheap ) options from Citizen, Timex, Seiko, Hamilton. Quartz is fine ( less hassle, cheaper) automatic or manual wind is cooler.
https://orient-watch.com/Collections/ORIENT/Sports/ORIENT%3A-Mechanical-Sports-Watch/p/RA-AC0H02N
This is under $200 and is a good brand, and size and mechanical.
Thanks! I have an Orient mechanical and love it. What a good idea.
SOTD = Scent Trunk by Maya Njie Tree Moss
It’s tree moss so earthy green!

I had dinner at an Indonesian place with a friend last night. It’s actually a grocery with a side business of hot food buffet. I’m a Scoville Scale wimp and asked the proprietress to describe everything. I ended up with plain white rice (there were 4 types!), a chicken skewer and a fried vegetable patty – no heat at all! We ended up eating outside because 1) it was nice out and 2) I did not want to sit inside a makeshift bar counter that can only fit 2 people. Other than the less than ideal dining room situation, the food was excellent. There’s a more extensive menu that I will have to peruse and order ahead. It was my first time to have Indonesian food. We’ll be back!
Yum, I love Indonesian food!
I’d love to try Indonesian food! Never had it.
A glorious spring day here, wearing Tonka Imperiale.
You smell great!!
Glad the sun is shining. Enjoy it.
Gorgeous scent. Do you have a fav from this collection?
So many – I am a Guerlain fan in general. Spiritueuse Double Vanille, Cuir Beluga, Bois d’Arménie and Tonka Impériale are my favorites from this particular line (Art et Matière).
I tried Neroli Plein Sud and the Jasmin one, also I tried Tobacco Honey recently… None of them made me want to purchase a FB but your SOTD is really worthy!
I really liked Myrrhe et Delires and bummed when it was disco’d.
Cuir Beluga is also a fave, Rose Barbare is nice too. I would definitely like an fb of Tobacco Honey 🐝 🍯. It’s very yummy:)
Yay for Spring having sprung!
It looks like my eldest nephew got into some kind of trouble at school last night but I will know exactly when my sister calls later on. I just arrived at work today, albeit grudgingly. Wearing Coco Mademoiselle today.
Uh oh!! Hope it is not too dire.
I don’t believe I have much for the CP this week so I will wear whatever I grab. Today it is La Douceur di Siam by Dusita that I received from one of my generous NSTers. It is a beautiful tropical rose, if there is such a thing.
A tropical rose?? Sounds great! I think I have your SOTD in The Sample Stash somewhere…
https://www.museothyssen.org/en/collection/artists/chase-william-merritt/park-path
I’m looking at Central Park paintings and starting with this one by William Merrit Chase of a nurse and child, in a quiet spot. I like the contrast of the rock wall with the soft green trees and grass. A shady , quiet space in which to rest and am matching with Chypre Mousse for the damp stone and shadiness.
I used to work near the part of the park where that was painted. You smell great in Chypre Mousse!
Nice pairing!
I am going with trees in a park for the CP. Today I’m wearing Jo Malone Silver Birch & Lavender to smell like a birch tree.
“One could do worse than be a swinger of birches.” ~ Robert Frost from the poem Birches.
Lovely!
Un Jardin à Cythère for volenteering today at the library
The book More I finished reading is trash. Don’t bother to read it!
I love this book review! It gets right to the point. 👍
LOL!
And I am not sure about this Hermes cologne.
Any others have tried this?
I think Robin may have tried it?
I do not love it! With a few notable exceptions I do not love Christine Nagel.
Nomenclature Minted today, both for green and for Central Park (I walked through Central Park on my NYC trip last year when I bought this bottle).
So frustrated by this car search. We decided to try for a new car but there’s no inventory; our broker said today that a lot of the dealerships aren’t even taking orders. He found us a RAV4 yesterday and drove to the dealership to test it, but in the time it took him to get there they sold it to another broker who wasn’t even there for it, but saw it and knew it was a hot commodity. Grrr. And he found a Highlander coming off lease this weekend but told us there’s likely to be a bidding war. Sigh.
Oh dear, hope you find your perfect car.
Here’s hoping for less drama going forward. It seems like getting a car is almost tantamount to buying a house.
I suppose the automobile market is different Canada vs. US. When I had my oil change (2-3 months ago IIRC), I wandered into the showroom. If I was willing to pay, not even a premium, I could have bought a new car. Fortunately, my car’s mileage is still very low and I am looking for a hybrid which Subaru does not offer which means you’re either all in or all out.
The U.S. market may be different but part of the problem is that we want a hybrid and we want a Toyota / Lexus (preferably Toyota), and they seem to be very much in demand.
I actually think it would be easier to buy a house right now, with high rates keeping people out of the market and new restrictions on sales to foreigners. I mean, it’s still crazy here (always is), but I think it’s flattened a bit.
But yeah, apparently the Highlander is 3 years old and has fairly high mileage, and so the listed price is decent. But the broker expects the bidding war to push the price up very close to the cost of a new car. Ugh.
Sounds ugly! The Subaru Solterra is a partnership with Toyota although it is fully electric.
A good friend of mine just bought a Solterra, very nice car. But yes, fully electric.
Ugh. Buying a car is such a pain, especially if what you want is either: a hot commodity, or something that nobody makes anymore.
Apple and yogurt smoothie
For Jalapeno, these Gala apples are still in season here, can you switch to pears maybe
Prada Infusion de Mandarine, such a treat, zingy and a non-annoying, well-judged sweetness from oppoponax if memory serves. Tonight vintage Aromatics Elixir.
Prada Infusion de Mandarine is a very good one. I don’t know what it is but the ones that came out more recently were nothing to write home about. They were Gingembre, Vanille and Ylang.
Ah yes, I seem to recall Lillyjo and you were not very impressed with the latest trio.
Aurora, you won’t believe this, but I found more of my favorite apples today while grocery shopping! 🍎 So in addition to Sugar Bee apples, I have blood oranges, mandarin oranges, blood oranges, a couple of grapefruit hybrids, and some kumquats. 🍊🍊🍊 Citrus fruits are definitely in season here…
Guess I was really excited about those blood oranges, since I mentioned them twice, LOL!
😄 What a bounty of fruit.
Wearing Balenciaga Paris for the green and violet combo that’s perfect in Spring.
That one is really nice.
Seconding Kris!
Balenciaga Paris had a gorgeous bottle, too.
I’m wearing wearing Le Sillage Blanc from Dusita. It’s a green leather that sometimes tends towards overcooked vegetables to my nose, but usually not – I’ll see how it goes today 🙂 .
That does not sound appealing, hope it played nicely today!
I chose Paloma Picasso today, I’ve been craving that bitter green edge.
It’s pouring rain here – nice April rain without fear of sleet and ice. Feeling really glad that winter is over.
You and me both!!
I’m wearing SL De Profundis which works in my mind for green and gardening and parks all at once. Walking home from my exercise class, I stopped to talk to an older man (probably in his 80s) out gardening. He was very excited to tell me about the seeds he had planted. It was a lovely conversation.
Love bonding over gardening 🙂
I bonded with a younger man the other day over the Northern flicker that was pecking at someone’s siding. 🙂 It is lovely to have those moments of connection.
I went with Pacifica French Lilac since the lilacs are blooming here right now. It’s a lovely, warm sunny day!
ooh, I’m jealous. My lilacs are still green. I’ve been patiently waiting for them to bloom out, but it feels like they are taking forever this year.
you smell lovely today!
I think they bloom too early here. In Seattle, the last few years we’ve had some unseasonably warm temps in Feb and/or March that I think trigger some plants to bloom early. Our temps are supposed to go back to the 50s with lots of rain for many days starting Thursday, so the enjoyment of the lilacs will be especially short lived.
And thank you!
Also envious of your lilacs! Haven’t found any near me yet. But I am keeping an eye out for them in my wanderings. Some parks in the area used to have lilac bushes as part of their landscaping, so I know they can grow here.
Good idea to keep your eye out! I only wish that all the lilacs I saw were accessible. Some of them grow too high in the tree to get my nose on.
How nice! Ours won’t bloom for another 3 weeks yet.
My goods news is that the tiny lilac sapling I planted last spring survived and is putting out buds! I am overjoyed, being Ms. Black Thumb over here.
Aww, I’m so glad your lilac survived!
Sotd is Diptyque Eau Capitale
I really need to sample your sotd.
Trying Delta of Venus today…wonderful citrus and green fruitiness so far!
You smell wonderful!
Second that!
Hiya scent twin!
Guerlain Apres l’Ondee and a cup of calendula tea.
lovely! tea and perfume
SOTD is Love Blossom. I wouldn’t call it green although there are hints of it. But it works for the CP with its pink blossoms, like park in bloom on a spring day.
Ah, I think that’s the first report I’ve seen, thanks!
My phone interview went well!
But that does not mean anything.
SOTD is Oud Palao, chilly here most of the day. This is in no way a complaint.
Glad it went well — fingers crossed! But yeah, always hard to tell at that stage.
🤞
In a sample of Trudon Aphelie and taking a CP point for the ivy note on blast in the opening. I wish it stayed longer but the rose elbows it out of center stage after the first half hour.
I’m at the office for my monthly team meeting today, so my tea today has been mostly tea bags of Tazo Joy, but started with a mystery cup. I had a tea bag in a zip lock baggie at the bottom of my lunch sack. It was Harney & Sons and was a black tea, but I have no idea what flavor. It was tasty. I think it may have been an extra from one of our swap or splitmeets, so thank you everyone who has ever sent me H&S tea!
NSTers have sent me some really great teas in the past, too.
I think our appreciation of the subtleties of scents translates well into appreciation of the subtleties of teas. NSTers are people who pay attention! 😃
We should petition Robin for a tea swap here sometime! At the moment, I am drinking Clippership Baymen’s Blend. 😉
Oh, yay!
I would love a tea Swapmeet
I would do it, but I don’t know if we have enough tea drinkers?? There are tea boards that do them all the time.
Would definitely be down for a tea swap
I didn’t think of that, thanks!
Wearing No. 19 Poudre today and claiming a cp point.
I really like No. 19 Poudre, and think there would be room in a perfume collection for both it and No. 19. 😇
Poudre is a nice one!
Love Poudre.
Unsettled weather here today. Glad that I got Teflon kitty’s special raw food kibbles and some groceries before the clouds rolled in. I hate unloading in the rain. Found some late season blood oranges in the produce dept., so quite pleased about that.
For hajusuuri: I got my A/C fixed yesterday! Sure enough, back in March when the initial problem was noticed, I was put on a list for work to be done. The guy showed up around lunchtime. And the issue was pretty much what I had figured out. No coolant.
SOTD = Eris Delta of Venus, from The Sample Stash and springpansy. It’s working really nicely with today’s cooler, damp weather.
I am also a fan of blood oranges
If I can find them for a reasonable price, they are coming home with me. So tasty!!
If today was unsettled here, I may have worn Unsettled!
It is so good that your A/C was fixed.
Yeah. Glad that it was taken care of before it got stupid hot here.
Unsettled weather here. The next town south just had a tornado warning. Ugh.
Unsettled weather twins is what I meant to say. Ugh again.
Yikes! Nothing like that here. Just enough rain to mess up the windshield.
I am wearing the remnants of Ex Nihilo Viper Green which I tested at Saks today. Does not live up to its name. It’s got plenty of floral notes, the green pretty much disappears in about 10 minutes, and the entire thing is just a whisp after half an hour. And all for only $400. 😅
I also tested the new releases from Bruno Cucinelli. Another yawn. I had been very interested in the men’s version, and it was nice enough, but not the least bit interesting.
It’s rather irritating to see an awesome perfume name being used for a vet of “Meh”.
Argh! “VAT”, not “vet”.
I agree.
Yep!
Twins (copycat) with Robin in LAP L’Eau de L’Artisan.
Hey twin!! Nice to see it get 2 mentions in one day, it is so rarely mentioned.
Hello:)
Currently smell of Rose Jam 🌹
Hello.
You smell great.
Thank you!
Yum.
Late but wore Angel’s Share.
I wasn’t supposed to work today but I got called in. It threw my whole day off.
Boo to getting called in last minute!
A big fat PHOOEY to being called in at the 11th hour!
