Happy Hump Day and happy Siblings Day! Birthdays: Omar Sharif, Paul Theroux and Annie Lamott. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking points in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Eau Cerise.
Reminder: 4/12 is National Licorice Day. You know what to do!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Licorice day three, and I’m in my beloved old standby, SP Fourreau Noir. (I love it so much I have both the bell jar and the Vapo Tout Noir, just to be on the safe side.) The notes say nothing about black licorice but I trust my nose.
Always trust your nose 🙂
I’m in a mini of Mirto di Panarea, from Acqua di Parma. Citrusy and aromatic, right up my alley.
The Blu Mediterraneo line is so good, you smell summery.
I love Mirto di Panarea. You smell fantastic.
Eid Mubarak for those who celebrate.
I am wearing Iris Ganache and wondering why Guerlain discontinued this scent
Tea is Imperial Earl Grey by Mariage Freres
I missed it again! Mea culpa.
Hello.
Sotd is Nahema.
Got to have my passport renewed and I live so far away from the embassy I do not look forward to the trip. It’s 1 and a half hours away. Probably shorter if I drive there but not going to risk getting lost and missing my appointment. Thank goodness for music and headphones to keep me entertained!
House Twins
You smelled amazing today.
I’m in Gypsy Water from my mini which is getting close to thunking. Probably one more wear.
Today and the past 2 days have been absolutely gorgeous! Sun, blue skies and temps in the 60s. I love it! Getting out for my lunch time walk has been the highlight of my day.🌞 I finally put my down parka away, hopefully for good!
Enjoy the weather!
Can you describe Gypsy Water?
Gorgeous here too! I tempted fate by putting the snow shovel out in the back shed.
Hello all!
Extrait week continues with Parfum d’Hermes parfum, in such an elegant bottle. I do have to say, I strangely prefer the EdT of this one but the parfum is so luxurious. I haven’t really planned out this week, but I was looking for an extrait with licorice. I think the best I can do is one with anise. Partial points?
We got a line of storms at around 4AM last night. The thunder was so loud it was setting off a car alarm. Jicky was so brave; he barely woke up! I got right back to bed but still a little extra sleepy today.
Have a great day all!
Don’t you smell good! If I had to choose my favourite scent of all time it would probably be Parfum d’Hermès extrait — the EDT is tremendous but there’s just something incredibly plush and enveloping about the parfum. Luxurious is exactly the right word.
I adore both, but I just can’t get enough of the sillage and dry down of the EdT. It would make my short list as well.
I’m counting anise. It’s all just whatever perfume houses want to say are the notes anyway, so who knows if it’s truly “licorice.”
True enough! 😁
Yay for Jicky being unfazed by those storms!
He’s pretty chill, luckily!
It’s a cold bright sunny day here-what a relief from grey rainy days. Plus there was hail last night.
I’m in Bigarade Concentree – probably wearing too much-just felt too exuberant this morning, and kept spritzing.
Hope everyone’s day is good!
It’s nice to wear something that simply says, “Wheeee!”
lol you’re right!
That’s a “Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart” fragrance. You smell fab!
I love that song-thanks, Daniel 🙂
Love that
me too, shelleyw 🙂
Wishing you a wonderful day, so nice to hear joy.
Thank you, AnniePerfumes – hope your day is great 🙂
Glad to hear that you are seeing the sun, finally!
Wearing a sample of Claus Porto Aqua Vetiver (aka 1). While I bought the sample set locally, I have no idea whether the full bottles are as well, but I am tempted to get a travel size at the very least.
I love the CP soaps, but they’re really hard to get.
Sotd is Olympic Orchids Osafume w/its lovely anise and star anise opening notes.
Have not tried that one…sounds nice.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone mention that as a SOTD before.
Gorgeous, sunny morning. Spritzing “Eau de Pamplemousse Rose” with abandon.
the name of it alone sounds great
The Hermès colognes are so elegant.
Daniel, I love that cologne, and I really love the colour of the bottle. You smell great!
Thanks, Carole! Such uplifting stuff.😊
I am wearing Patou 1000, smells heavenly. I was able to find an edt bottle and it smells amazing. I don’t think it has anise, for tomorrow i will try to find a perfume with anise note.
Such a classic. You smell amazing!
I love that scent, Hera-I get all the notes at different times-eucalyptus, violet, and that jasmine which is to die for.
I’m a fan too, I have modern EDP and vintage EDT, quite different.
please tell me more, i am curious about vintage.
I’ve always found the edp a little bit bottom-heavy so to speak, in that the drydown arrives quite early in the development, the vintage edt feels much more harmonious, I can smell the florals and the fruit longer and its drydown feels more nuanced, it’s also longer-lasting.
Thank you.
Home from my workout and going to shower and then put on Ava Luxe Madeline (from way back in my MakeupAlley days) for the cp. From Fragrantica: Top notes are Spicy Notes and Brandy; middle notes are Milk, Licorice and Fig; base notes are Bourbon Vanilla, Amber and Precious Woods. It’s more of a Christmas fragrance, but I’m still enjoying it today.
MUA days!
You smell amazing and I think I could happily live in your perfume palace.🥰
That sounds delicious.
It was much colder here (29F last night) than where I’ve been, but the sun is shining like a demon and it’s going to be a lovely day. Didn’t fall asleep until after 4am and while I was planning on heading out to the No Phone Zone, I think I’ll sit here one more night and try to get the old body and brain back online. 🤪
I’ve nothing to fit the CP that I’m aware of, but I’m also not going to research that statement to make sure it’s accurate. While dithering over my box of chocolates today I decided to go with Fate because it’s been a while. She’s big, bountiful, and bodacious! She’s no Jo Malone, being very outspoken and not a bit ladylike. She’s just too much, in every way. If she were a performer, she’d be a hysterically raucous drag Queen, unapologetic and absolutely lovable. Arms spread wide, bosom heaving, makeup expertly blended, false lashes sweeping up to the hairline, teetering on 5” heels, she’s waiting for a huge hug and you just need to give it up. All she wants is love, and today I’m giving it to her! What a Queen! 👑
Smell well, y’all!
A great description, I’ve always been afraid of the cumin in fate so I’m not familiar with its glory.
I saw your story yesterday and am so sorry. Speechless at the horrible treatment you received.
Fate is a bold, beautiful scent and I bet you wear it well.
Fate is marvelous stuff! I could picture Dame Edna wearing it.
After wearing Desarmant from a sample yesterday, I’m back in Beachwalk.
Bought some wax melts yesterday as we wandered here among some gift shops. Two are kind of beachy, one of which has thyme. The other ones are more floral and are soy lotion candle melts.
Wondering what seafood is in store for today. We do have some fresh crab cakes to cook as well as some clams casino we bought at a local fish market. Along with delicious key lime pie. This trip is becoming all about food…
Nothing wrong with a trip all about such delicious delights!
The melts sound nice. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Crab cakes, yay!
Crab cakes and key lime pie? I will be over.
Clams casino and crab cakes? Delish!!
Wearing Epic today. Yesterday, it was in the 70’s and sunny and today it’s in the lower 60’s and cloudy. We are expecting some thunderstorms tomorrow.
We’ve got rain on the docket too…
It’s sunny and warm and I am going outside before the rain comes back tomorrow. I’m wearing Shanghai Lily.
Enjoy it while you can foxbins!
I’m wearing Orchidée Vanille from another sample. I remember it as a very nice floral vanilla, I think my sample hasn’t aged particularly well, but fortunately I emptied it today.
I spent the day in a manner that can best be described as foraging. I’ve always wondered why, but there seems to be an abundance of jam makers in this region so I stocked up on those, got me some honey and a bottle of a truly wonderful elderflower/elderberry liqueur (turning fruit into liqueur and eau-de-vie is very much a tradition here, and they sell some great stuff).
I finished my day with a short hike of about an hour and a half in the Vosges. No daffodils today, but loads of fruit trees in full bloom.
Sounds idyllic.
I had plenty of Vanille and no Orchidee when I sampled that one.
Frederick Malle Iris Poudre, from an adorable 7ml mini I got from ebay.
I’d given this a few sniffs here and there years ago, and decided it wasn’t for me. Then I was at Nordstroms a few weeks ago, thought “what the heck” and tried it on skin. Immediate love.
The fragrance journey is long and often surprising – I never turn down a sniff of something just in case it hits different this time 😀
Same with Iris Poudre.
Gotta love that journey.
This has happened to me too, some perfumes are instant love, others require acquaintance.
This is one of my favorites so I know you smell wonderful!
It is lovely and elegant. Reminds me of what I wish Chanel Misia would be, which i badly wanted to like but was too much for me.
I think I will be good to go with Iris Poudre!
I was hoping for that with Misia too. I liked it, but just wasn’t quite what I wanted.
The Perfume Road can be a long, strange trip for sure.
Apple and yogurt smoothie and carrot cake for dessert.
I can’t imagine an apple in that smoothie. My blender is older than me and bananas are my only go-to.
What perfume is tickling your fancy?
Time to upgrade blender?😉
Adding it was EL Jasmine White Moss which falls between Cristalle edt and EDP and tonight Terry de Gunzburg Rouge Nocturne, a favorite rose patchouli scent.
Just answered my question, lol.
😀
Those EL Private Collection perfumes were lovely.
Yes, maybe the last interesting EL until the new legacy line. I also have Amber Ylang Ylang.
Getting excited for my Lasik tomorrow!
SotD was a thunked sample of Moonlight Patchouli from VC&A.
Good luck! I had it done years ago and loved it. Now my eyes are getting older so reverting back a little, but vision is still better than it used to be.
Good luck, Lucasi! I’m sure it will all go well. One coworker had it, and loved the effect.
Good luck! I hope it’s everything you expect it to be!
Best of luck! 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Good luck!
Siblings Day? Robin, they hate me. I need some strong stuff for this. Goddess just arrived yesterday, its perfect for this.
And about to call the vet. Max just threw up again. Of course, he wants to play ball still.
Yay Goddess – so pretty and I was pleasantly surprised at its longevity!
Good luck with the barfing.
Another Goddess fan!
The barfing turned into a vet visit tomorrow. An all day affair with testing up the wazoo.
Poor fellah.
Your siblings hate you? Ugh. Pile on the Goddess then!
Absolutely. Goddess is piled.
Gotta wish them well. This sort of family dynamic tends to repeat itself. I’ve already seen it with one of my sister’s kids.
I’m sorry AnniePerfumes. But you have plenty of perfumista sisters here 🙂
Uh oh. Hope your pup’s appointment gives you some answers, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
Sorry you have *That* kind of family.
Hope Max will be well soon, and gives you a break from cleaning up.
SOTD is Ferre Eau de Parfum. Another favorite of mine from a generous NSTer. Reminds of FM Iris Poudre, but a different pretty.
Kris, I love Ferre, too. I bought mine at winners years ago-it was there for so long I felt sorry for it. The same perfumeur made both-aren’t they like cousins-beautiful variations on a similar theme?
Yes, I agree Carole. I love both of them.
According to the notes list on Fragrantica, I have no perfumes with licorice notes and very little with anise. That’s much as I expected for the main notes, but I was sure there would be something lurking.
I’m wearing Gold Heart from Map of the Heart.
Then you are free to wear what you want…not a bad thing!
Smelling amazing in Rose Chérie today. 🌹
Love that one! Smelling beautiful.
Oh, that’s a beaut.
Taking a break from the CP – wearing YSL Paris Premieres Roses. Pretty, but does not live up to Paris name, in my opinion, although it definitely has its DNA. It is just too fleeting. Need to re-test it again later.
I remember that one!
SOTD = Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire EDP
Love! My first licorice (ok, anise, close enough) of the week. I’ve had this for a while, bought at Marshall’s.

I’ve had a drink called Raki which is brandy with anise. It was cloudy white and … never again … it just about burned a trail down my throat and into my stomach. 😝
For your reading pleasure, especially those who use a dishwasher. I don’t except when I’m at my brother’s.
https://www.wsj.com/lifestyle/travel/fights-switching-seats-fees-2041c6ed?st=yn93x7qidhr47bf&reflink=article_copyURL_share
Ooooooooof. Your experience with Raki sounds like the one I had with Jagermeister.
I will never again touch it. Yuck!
Jägermeister? Blast from the past!
I touched it many times.
The first and only time I ever consumed it, I was in my late 40’s. Not quite the typical demographic for that beverage.
Try a homebrew fireball.
You can feel the Everclear ripping your flesh out of your esophagus through your intestines.
Drink up!
I love Raki, but I understand completely your experience, it feels that way for the first time.
Sorry to hear about your experience. I’ve never had it, but honestly that sounds right up my alley. I love anise-flavored anything!
I’m doing last week’s CP today, since someone mentioned Florabellio last week and it’s a sunny day. Plus it makes me think of Germany since I bought it on the last sabbatical.
I have a sneaking suspicion that a box containing Bois des Iles Extrait just arrived at my house. I am judging from a) sending a link to Mr. Ockeghem when he asked what I want for my birthday last weekend; b) being told that it’s “none of my beeswax” when I was trying to figure out why we had a FedEx delivery notice yesterday and why we had been texted delivery status by FedEx on the home phone; and c) Mr. Ockeghem running to the door when the delivery person came. 🙂
Aren’t you lucky? Well, enjoy it.
Exciting!
Ooooo, please report back!
Today I’m in Jo Malone Vanilla & Anise. Very easy to wear but not boring (to my nose). I didn’t end up wearing any perfume yesterday. Just one of those days where I was focused on work and dealing with intermittent headaches so thought I’d take it easy on myself. Today is my Friday, and I’m so excited to have a long weekend.
Good call to skip perfume if you were dealing with headaches the other day.
Yay for a long weekend…hope that is the end of the headaches.
Today is Siblings Day? Guess I will be texting my brother that info a little later on. 😉
Sort of cloudy and definitely windy here today. I even got rained on for a little bit by a brief and very localized shower this afternoon. It was done by the time I drove across the parking lot of Target. 🌦️☂️
SOTD = back in vintage Cabochard.
Oy on your weather. Do Colorado-ans (I just made that up) use umbrelllas formsudden downpours? I only ask because my brother said that you can always tell who’s from Oregon (no umbrella!) versus not.
“Coloradans” (actual name for the folks here) sometimes use umbrellas. But this shower was so light and so short-lived that if I’d had one with me, the rain probably would have stopped by the time I deployed it.
Colorado weather is fickle AF.
And “Coloradoan” was once used, long ago!
How was Target?
Some of the Target stores out here are freaking ginormous! Easily 3x the size of the biggest ones in NJ.
I went to a store a few towns away to get something from the DvF collection, since my local store didn’t have it in my size anymore.
