Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Welcome to April and happy April Fools Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès Un Jardin à Cythère.
Reminder: on 4/5 we're doing salt & pepper...wear a fragrance with salty notes, pepper notes, or both. (Thanks go to Calypso for the suggestion!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Yes, that is a purple Peep Bunny! [cropped] by Rhonda at flickr; some rights reserved.
Rabbit rabbit rabbit! I actually remembered it when I got up.
Salt & pepper week begins with one cautious spritz (it’s potent stuff) from the metallic hockey puck of YSL Nu EDP, which doesn’t smell especially peppery to me, but pepper’s in the list of notes and some people report a blast of it at the opening. Mostly it’s a strange spicy floral with incense, the obvious forebear of TF Black Orchid (which I also have). It’s not beautiful, exactly, but it’s fascinating, which is just as good.
Robin — Canadian supermarkets, as well-stocked as they are, don’t hold a candle to American ones. We used to drive across the border to Calais, Maine, and the supermarket there — not even a particularly big one — was just jaw-dropping, with so many versions of grocery products we didn’t have here, flankers upon flankers, and new things every time we went. So all we get is boring Peeps for Easter (I didn’t buy any this year btw).
I have Nu planned for this week, you described it perfectly.
I don’t love peeps as much as I love the idea, but I am sorry for your boring supermarkets.
Neither the US nor Canada can touch what the Japanese get in terms of fun candy though!
I live close to more Japanese grocery stores than anywhere else in California and yeah, we get it all!
Then you can probably get those cute Hiyoko chicks…they look more tempting than Peeps anyway! And come in a limited edition cherry blossom 🙂
And womens POCKY only.
cannot buy mens.
wouldn’t be right.
Women’s Pocky? Do tell, apsara!
Happy April, everyone! First fragrance of the month is from Andy Tauer: Une Rose Chyprée. Fruity, spicy, and sweet all at once – heady stuff.😊
Happy April Daniel!
Love this one! You smell great
Andy Tauer made some world class rose perfumes.
Wearing the perfume oil from tiny French brand aime. I like to wear oils like this when I don’t necessarily want to disturb others or have them smell me before they see me. This one is named Parfum de Peau and it is indeed a skin scent (Perfumer: Maia Lernout @ Takasago) composed of almond, freesia, *white musks, seringat (aka mock orange), vetiver, sandalwood, and ambroxan. I’ve been trying to figure out how this thing works – because no notes stick out – it’s an everything-all-at-once kind of affair – but have been unsuccessful. It just works and I have been charmed. It’s all I’ve worn for the last three weeks.
*I tend to shy away from white musks, because of The Body Shop associations, but have realized that not all white musks are created equal! 🙂
Well it is possible the EdP is less linear? Either way, it sounds like a perfect skin scent.
There is an edp but each tester bottle I’ve come across has been bone-dry, so I may never know for sure! I’d imagine the alcohol would ‘open’ it up and make everything more legible to the nose, eh? Meh. I clearly enjoy this version so I won’t be devastated if I never sample the edp.
I got the most recent Alkemia spring sample set, so I’m wearing The Greening Woods perfume oil.
Love the name!
I’m commando for physical therapy this morning and plan to wear Zoologist Civet when I get home, I have been craving it.
I’m trying not to worry about my weight. My doctor’s nurses talked to me about the need for extra calories and protein after surgery and I have been eating well but a lot, with no exercise except PT. I think it will even out once I can walk. Can’t wait to go on pleasant walks, it’s been a long time.
Hope PT is going well! How long away are pleasant walks, do you think?
Maybe 6 weeks? This week I’m making the transition to a cane instead of a walker.
Oh, cane is wonderful!!
PLEASE be careful now using a cane. I had a bad fall after the transition from walker to cane, and don’t know if it was because I was still unstable or I was too confident. I broke my wrist and crashed my head onto the floor, breaking my glasses and cutting my head badly. I do not mean to be Debby Downer, but just don’t want anyone else to go through what I did.
Oh Calypso, I remember what you went through, it
must have been awful. I am trying to be very careful of falling.
I just transitioned from walker to cane yesterday, and I feel so much more normal! Hoping there are many pleasant — and safe — walks in the near future for you!
For you as well, Isabella!
Civet is a great scent.
You will be taking those walks in no time.
Go get ‘em, girl! 🏃🏻♀️
Yay for making progress!
Hello friends-
Over the weekend I came back from Grenada in the Caribbean. Very nice break. Happy Easter to those you celebrate.
I finished Lady Tams Circle of Women
SOTD Songes by Goutal
Oh, we went to Grenada 3 times, I am jealous!
I loved your photos on Instagram and wondered where you were. And, your kids are so cute!
How lovely for all.
R, you smell wonderful!
I’m wearing Eau de Protection, my most favourite rose fragrance.
IMHO you smell much better than me today Dusan 🙂
I like Cythere ok but I don’t love it.
Cythere was a slow burner for me, and I’ve found I like it best in warm weather.
One of my favorite roses too. You are smelling great!
Definitely one of my favorite roses! You smell fabulous.
Eau de Protection is a wonderful dark rose perfume.
Kris, Daniel & Jalapeno:
To me, Rossy’s rose is in the same vein as FM Rose Tonnere and SL La Fille de Berlin. Do you like these, too?
Actually, I love both of those. Might as well throw in Portrait of a Lady too😊 That is my favorite.
Oh yes, Portrait is a stunner!
I haven’t tried FM Rose Tonnere, but SL La Fille de Berlin is quite a beauty. So is POAL.
I’m also a big fan of the OG Agent Provocateur.
IIRC, Rose Tonnere was originally called Une Rose, but have no idea whether any reformulation happened when they changed the name.
Agent Provocateur is a great rose chypre, I agree!
I remembered to rabbit only because I came here to NST before speaking any other words, or even shifting positions in bed this morning. Thanks for the timely reminder! SOTM is Cape Heartache which is mingling very nicely with the lingering traces of Feu Secret on my shirt cuffs. Happy April everybody!
Perfect then! I forgot, again!
Aww, I love the Peep ears and perspective of the header photo! So adorable, makes me want to bite those ears right off! What 🐰
I’m trailing the lingering traces of ELDO Fils de Dieu this morning. The longevity of this particular perfume is pretty fantastic, at least on my skin. Plus, it’s just so comforting. I loved cream of wheat on cold mornings when I was a kid and this reminds me of that for some reason.
Opened my email this morning to see auto offers from all over the country. Within 24-48 hours, you supply your credentials and 2 references, and you are automatically hired. No interview, no background check (which I find quite alarming) and you can work anywhere. If you want a job, be a nurse. They’re quite desperate to hire you…😳
The peep pic is darling!
My sis gets those emails daily, also.
I’m always getting them from different agencies and facilities, but there has always been a process to it. The turn around has never been 24-48 hours, because background checks take forever and every new contract requires a new one. I’m worried about the recent “nurses” who “graduated” from an “accredited” nursing program but really, never did. There were 3 institutions in south Florida (of course it’s Florida!) that recently got busted and their graduate nurses have been working in every conceivable capacity, but never really had the education/training/clinical time. Is was basically a “bought” college education. I think this could become more and more common because there is such a dearth of nurses willing to work at the bedside. Scary, in my opinion.
I hate to say it because I loved my years in nursing, but I am very happy to be retired. I do have to admit, it was weird letting my license lapse last year.
My sister has retired twice. And came back for Covid and has not stopped. She keeps renewing everything.
She’s a champion, for sure! Once I hang up my hat I will be done, done, done..
You know, it’s been rather shocking to me because I’ve almost always worked acute care. I did a 5 year stint in ICU and then got so burned out, I quit and was in a work from home position with an insurance company. I did that for four years before jumping back into bedside to travel. Unbelievable changes, and then Covid, and it’s actually worse now as far as staffing and contention between management and staff. Bedside has irrevocably changed, patients are more ill and the impact of drug and alcohol abuse cannot be overstated. I used to love to go to work, had so many great experiences with other nurses, so many absolutely hilarious scenarios, and worked with some amazing physicians. But this will be my last rodeo. 🤠 When the FTC starts investigating hospital corporations because of their “strip and flip” practices, it’s time to go. Enjoy your retirement and I hope your recent trip to NC for family time was wonderful!
Oh, I do love retirement and I keep my foot in the door by volunteering at the Alzheimer’s Association and a drug and alcohol treatment center. I don’t need my license, but can still do volunteer work in two areas close to my heart.
Oh, and we had a great time in NC. Thanks for mentioning it.
Fils de Dieu is great in cooler weather. I find all kinds of nuances in it that I don’t notice when the temps are warmer.
Sampling Lazy Lop from d. grayi so I’ve got both pepper and rabbits covered
I think it’s going to be a big week for The Different Company for me. I’ve got both salt and pepper covered with their perfumes. I’ll kick it off this morning with Rose Poivrée.
Beautiful day today, and 2/3 of my house has a stat holiday (but I do not, since I’m in the private sector). Note to companies: Please do not rebrand on April 1. One of my colleagues forwarded me an email today from one of the partners I manage that says they’re rebranding as of today. My contact at the partner said not one word about this two weeks ago (it’s not our strongest partnership, but still, a rebrand means I have to tell the sales staff that the name has changed, change all our materials, etc.). I think the rebrand actually is real, but the thought definitely went through my head that it could be an April Fools joke.
I’ve tried a couple from TDC that I’ve enjoyed, I think one was Oriental Lounge? One of many houses I really haven’t explored in any depth and probably never will because I have TOO much already. Yeah, any big decisions and/or changes on April 1 seems a bit suspicious…🤨
Everything I have from them (2 FBs) dates from 2010 or so. One I am fanatical about (Sel de vetiver). Rose Poivrée is interesting but not a “love”. Interestingly, that’s the J-C Ellena one, while Sel de Vetiver is Celine Ellena.
I have those two also; I will pull them out this week.
I haven’t worn SdV in ages, but it’s wonderful… and discontinued I’m sure.
Any major business decision coming out on April ! is going to get some serious side eye, for sure.
Yeah, and my contact at the partner has still not responded to my inquiry on the rebrand. They can’t really hold it against us if we feature their old branding on our website for the next couple weeks while I get them to tell me about it and then get the changes approved by legal.
Also, I should have said, I remembered my rabbits 2x today and I have extras for anyone who needs them.
I am in Blenheim Bouquet – a citrus scent with the black pepper note.
We are having an unusually warm weather for late March/early April. 25 C (77 F)! I was wearing a t-shirt and sandals yesterday and today, but I do not feel mentally ready for summer. That’s why I am glad the temperatures are expected to drop on Wednesday.
Is that one in the Penhaligon’s line up? I think I may have sampled it a long while back. Stay well, and safe. These winter temps are ominous to me…
Yes, Penhaligon’s.
I like when it is a bit cooler in April. It should get back to 15-17 C soon, which is a comfortable April temperature for me. I do not like sudden transitions between warm and cold.
I like Blenheim Bouquet. I don’t pull out my Penhaligon’s sample set nearly enough.
Wow! That’s even warmer than the temps I’ve seen here. 70 degrees F was crazy enough; I can’t imagine getting close to 80 this early in the year.
Happy April Fools! I am too jaded to be fooled anymore, but I remember fondly the days when you could fill an Oreo with toothpaste and go around telling people it’s the new mint flavor….
No smelly water for me yet, having a bit of a headache so I might go commando today, boo.
Also reporting back that I am very satisfied with my Luckyscent purchases of the Fer a Cheval All Purpose Cleaner and Almond hand soap! Both smell lovely, and clean very well. The spray cuts through grease better than most I’ve used, and smells pleasant like old fashioned soap.
https://www.luckyscent.com/brand/893/fer-a-cheval
Many years ago, my brother pulled an April Fool’s prank with chocolate Ex-Lax on someone he did not much care for.
I think that’s part of the reason why it isn’t made anymore…
Good morning from a beautiful April morning to start the month.
We have granddaughter turning 15 today, so the rabbits were remembered early.
I think many sprays of Vietnamese Coffee are in order for the day.
I fell for this one and purchased a bottle at Luckyscent.
The others in the collection, not so much.
Wrote to the fellowship group and said, hey, its been two weeks, the cohort starts in three weeks and I have not heard either way.
Even if I wasn’t selected, please let me know. And with that, I move forward.
I have a finite amount of time on this earth and not going to waste it waiting.
Going to see my sister in one week, got the luggage out, did more de cluttering, have bags of stuff by door, electronics to recycle, eBay stuff to mail, groceries to buy.
Even used my treadmill last night. I mean, it’s sitting there, duh.
I’m still crossing my fingers for you until you tell me not to. Do you think agism is a factor? I know I ran into this myself about 12 years ago when I applied for a local contract back home. I was 47 at the time, a good weight from biking daily, and was still dying my hair dark brown. I also have a big fat baby face. The reason I ask is because the interviewer was probably 5-7 years younger than me, rotund, and barely able to lumber down the hallway but said to me, “ Well, this is a very fast paced unit. We need young energetic staff. Are you sure you can keep up?” 🫠 If they are interviewing you via zoom, or have access to your DOB, they are probably doing this, consciously or unconsciously. I’ve noticed more and more bias since I let my hair go au natural, too. If this is the case, they’re so stooopid (said is my best childish voice) because they are dismissing all your hard earned years of experience and it’s their loss, which I know doesn’t help the bank account in the slightest. I hope you have a lovely visit with your sister and your granddaughter has a splendid birthday. I always love packing for a trip, so uplifting! Keep your chin up! 🧳
I so want to believe this is all not true, but…I don’t publish my DOB, obviously, but two years ago I got a bunch of LinkedIn direct messages telling me I was facing age discrimination and needed services to help with an early retirement. (They were a year early as I’d skipped a grade as a kid which made my university grad year make me look like I was 50.)
I do hope you’re much younger than I am. Though if you’re much closer to my age, I also know for sure that you’re better able to manage / more qualified for the whole fellowship thing than so many more of your peers.
I’m wearing a sample Luckyscent included with my Bombay Bling–Universal Flowering, Lilac No. 4. I’ve never heard of Universal Flowering but they apparently have a whole line of scents. This one starts as a green, fresh lilac but then adds an edge of cumin. It’s interesting but not as pretty as my very-loved Desarmant.
April already! No rabbits because I didn’t remember them until I landed here, and I’d already talked to the cats. It’s okay, I am lucky enough without them.
Yeah, I never get rabbits either because my wake-up call is usually a paw tap-tap-tapping my head, which leads to belly rubs and baby talk. She DOES sport rabbit-like ears, so maybe that counts..? After you mentioned BB a while back I went to LS to see if it was still available. I love my travel size of Trayee and thought she might need company, but alas all gone…🙃
As usual, I totally forgot the rabbits.
Although I already miss the grandkids, I am glad to get back to my perfume collection. I had to have my Shalimar MI today. I know-big surprise🤣
You smell wonderful! You can have one of my 🐇 sets. I usually do four and I am keeping one.
Thank you. I know you always have extra😉
Welcome back!
Thank you my dear.
I l
Oops, sorry for the comment fail above. Ugh.
I love the photo, Robin! And I loathe Peeps.
Remembered my rabbits when I woke up at 3:30 — whispered to myself. SOTD is HdP 1804; I don’t smell salt or people and have not checked the notes list, but I needed a hit of sunshine today, and that got the bill.
“Salt or PEPPER.” I may need a bigger phone.
Smelling people can lead to olfactory trauma, trust me. 🙄
I did the rabbits at Stupid O’Clock this morning, too.
That photo cracked me up!
So did salt or people!
Forgot the rabbits. Wishing everyone a calm and fragrant April.
Went with vintage Metal this morning, since I was thinking of de-accessioning my bottle and figured I should confirm it was time for it to go. But it is fab and just right for early spring, so it will stay.
Ha, so much for that!
Sampling Lineage today, it has notes of Sichuan and Peruvian pepper and a salty marine thing. It gets compared to Copal Azur, which I own, and luckily I like Copal MUCH more.
I had a nice and chill Easter weekend. I saw some family, ate chocolate, and did a lot of cooking. A family member gave us her air fryer, and I was excited to start experimenting. My husband talked me into cooking pork belly, and it was good but way too oily. I will search up less greasy food ideas this week!
Everytime I see air fryer, my heart skips a beat!
The cut of meat meat makes a difference. I like air frying fish, lean pork, some vegetables (brussel sprouts, asparagus).
I came across a fun recipe for air fried baby corn! The fresh type, not the canned type.
Fish sounds intimidating, but I’m willing to try if it’s been hajusuuri approved!
I’m a recent air fryer convert, too! Love the convenience and speed! Favorites are roasted seasoned root vegetables. Salmon is outstanding, and really any kind of meat. If you haven’t already gotten some parchment liners, highly recommend those because clean up is a breeze, especially after fatty foods/meats.
I rabbited too late, but said them anyway. Ashoka is my fragrance of the day. Going to dinner with former boss tonight and looking forward to it.
Hope it is a fun dinner springpansy!
I’m in Reglisse Noire today. Yesterday we had a more relaxed Easter with lasagne, a huge salad and a lovely angel food cake.
It was also a birthday celebration for my father-in-law. His birthday is today, yes he’s the April Fool’s baby! He’s a terrific guy and always up for some kind of fun. One of his favorite candies is Allsorts, so the licorice note is perfect for the day.
Happy Birthday to your FiL!
Love Reglisse Noire!
Angel food cake used to be my favorite for birthday cakes!
Yesterday I unwrapped my ham and it had a very unappealing color to it. I pitched it and defrosted some pork chops. ( my holiday cooking woes never end, lol)
For my late work night I am wearing TM Over the Musk, which is also what I wore yesterday.
Oh but you cooked something, an achievement in itself.
I try! The potatoes were very good.
Very unappealing color?? Was it green?
I had a cheesesteak for my Easter dinner. Costco had some really tasty (but small) ones in the frozen foods section.
It was a weird brown. It just wasn’t right.
Sounds like freezer burn.
We slept in this morning, we’d changed the alarm for the long weekend and forgot to reset it. Ah well, I don’t have to get to work for a set time, but I will feel a bit behind myself for a while.
I haven’t yet checked for salt and pepper fragrances, I know I don’t have any with salt, but I do have some pepper.
Meanwhile, I’m wearing Fille en Aiguilles.
I know that “late start” feeling, but it’s good to sleep in every so often.
Frozen mango, the juice of a lemon and yogurt smoothie
Noa today and tonight Réminiscence Héliotrope, a firm favorite.
Heliotrope notes make me think of Spring, as does Narcissus.
Me too, it is because of the almond nuances present in lilac too, narcissus is early spring’s favorite messenger🌾
SOTD = Chanel No.5 Eau Premiere EDP
Nice! It’s a greeny No.5! 💚

I went to Warby Parker and picked up my free solar eclipse glasses. I got there around 11:45 and there was a stack left … not sure how many that was but I was VERY surprised when she asked me how many I wanted so I just said two. I still have to read the instructions but I can’t imagine it would be really complex! I let the SAs at Lush and at Nordstrom know about it. We won’t get a full eclipse but definitely something.
I hope you enjoy those glasses and whatever you can make out of the eclipse. I was lucky enough to be in the path of totality back in 2017 and it was so cool! Really, made me feel so small and so big at the same time. Kind of like going to a solemn, reverent midnight mass for me.
Thanks for the heads up on Warby Parker having eclipse glasses.
Your belated lucky cat pic was so cute!
I’m twins with Tulipani in Lineage, which was my Christmas gift to myself and which prompted my suggestion of the salt and pepper CP. I absolutely love the opening with the STRONG pepper note. Sadly, the dry down is not as good. Tulipani compares it to Copal Azur, which I must now try.
Thank you, sincerely, to all who expressed sympathy and support over my brother’s awful cancer diagnosis. I do appreciate it so much. We have been in shock and I’m barely sleeping, then when I do I have bizarre dreams. They have returned to Michigan and I will be arranging to go up there soon. There is so much practical stuff to get done and a lot to deal with day-to-day. It’s almost a relief to have these small duties.
Hi scent twin! I had no idea Lineage inspired this CP, I just happened to receive a sample of it this past week. I would love to send you a sample of Copal Azur. let me poke around to see if I have your email address.
Glad you’ll be able to go & see them–hope you have a trusted
cat-minder.
I didn’t comment yesterday, but so sad to hear about your brother. I hope he has good support at his home location, and is as comfortable and pain free as possible.
I will chime in with Deva as I didn’t do any comments this weekend. I too hope there is good for support for him. We know that he has you for sure. There are also very good people that work in the hospice and palliative area that can be very supportive and helpful with many of the needs your brother and family may need.
Glad you will be able to go to Michigan, and I know what you mean about small duties. I’m sure you will be a help to your SIL.
I remembered my rabbits and the new month dawned mild and sunny and blue here. Being stalked by a migraine — not bad yet, but it’s prowling around — so I went low-scent today with just a bit of Huile Prodigieuse after my morning shower.
Ugh, hope you can head it off Isabella!
I never rabbit, because I never remember, because I never heard about this superstition until I came to NST. Regional and family history differences are so interesting!
It’s mid-afternoon for me and I just dabbed on some Lune Feline from a recent sample. Unintentionally CP compliant with red pepper top notes. I am SUCH a sucker for cardamom. It makes me want to buy almost immediately. I need try this side by side with Maya Njie Vanilj, another lovely cardamom and vanilla combo. IIRC that one is a bit more brisk and woodsy.
I had never heard of it either! But now it’s a tradition, plus it’s a tradition that I almost never remember to say it first thing 🙂
Starting off the week and the CP with a new perfume from Scent Trunk called Starlight Sesame. I bought a few travel sprays during their 25% sale last week. Starlight Sesame is very nice and includes a black pepper note. I think all 3 of the travel sprays I bought are keepers. The other two are Truffle and Saffron.
I’m not a big fan of pepper but I really like saffron.
I don’t like an obvious or persistent black pepper note at all. I’m so glad that it appears in plenty of perfumes I have as a supporting note that I can handle. And I couldn’t really smell it in the Starlight Sesame I wore today.
Scent Trunk’s Saffron is a nice one! I tested it Saturday night and will report back more after a full wearing.
🐇🐇🐇!
Had a bout of mixed rain and snow falling late this afternoon. Mother Nature seems to have gotten in on April Fool’s Day.
SOTD = commando, except for The Body Shop British Rose body butter on my shins.
Is your body butter in the older plastic packaging or the newer metal one? I’ve noticed a big change in formula when I bought the metal container butters.
It’s the older stuff. I got it when ULTA was closing out their stock of that. I also have some of the older body yogurt.
Read reviews of the newer stuff and decided to skip it.
Smart.
We had rain, snow and sleet this morning. Looks like a warm up for the rest of the week.
Sleet? Yuck. No bueno.
It’s supposed to warm up here for the rest of the week too.
I saw Colorado had thundersnow the other day. We get that sometimes.
I saw that on the local news. It was up in the mountains.
Just regular thunderstorms for me here on the plains.
