It's Almost-Friday and National Black Forest Cake Day. Birthdays: Maxim Gorky, Mario Vargas Llosa, Lady Gaga. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm commando at the moment, but my plan for later today is L'Artisan Parfumeur La Chasse aux Papillons.
Reminder: 3/29 is Astrud Gilberto's birthday. Wear Robert Piguet Fracas (her favorite) or wear a fragrance that fits her music, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Been super busy with the move, getting settled in, errands, stocking the fridge and reorienting myself, all with three hours jet lag and a significant weather change, so I’ve been quite tired. Taking a small breather today. I’m wearing LPRN No. 2.
Hope everything feels normal soon!
The jet lag is always tough, and because I left with less than 24 hours notice last year due to my mother’s death, the flat was a bit topsy turvy. But things are advancing bit by bit.
I hope you feel grounded and settled soon.
Thank you, I think in a week or two once I get a bunch of things done I will feel more comfortable.
I’m glad you made it safe and sound.
I’m glad you’re on the other side of your travels and settling in.
Glad you made it back home! I hope you feel a bit more rested after today.
Glad you get a rest!
Best of luck with the adjustment and getting comfortable!
Welcome back home! How’s Mila doing?
She’s a happy girl, we have been out chasing squirrels in the park. 🙂
Hello all!
I wore Vero Profumo Onda to bed last night and realized in the morning that today is Vero Kern’s birthday. So I’m continuing the celebration in some Mito parfum, perfect for spring. I was actually in my storage unit last night and cannot believe how much perfume I have. I have pulled together about 5 things for this weekend’s perfume swap though!
I’m very impromptu-like seeing Madonna tonight. I’m a bit shocked how relatively inexpensive the tickets are, so I asked a friend on Tuesday if she’d want to go. Just need to find some ear plugs before we go!
Have a great day everyone.
Oh wow! Have a great time!
Thank you!
What a wonderful smelling celebration!
You mentioning a swap makes has me thinking about our upcoming NST swapmeet. Do we know when in April the swapmeet begins? I look forward to it every year as it’s such a great opportunity to connect with NSTers and try new fragrances😊
Thanks! I didn’t know but I’m sure Robin has the date tucked around here somewhere.
Ha, no, I just have said April. I am terribly behind and will get that scheduled this weekend, along with the damage poll.
Agree, agree!
Enjoy!!
Thank you!
Good lord, you smell amazing.
I appreciate that! Mito might be my favorite of the extraits.
Have fun!
Thank you!
I hope it’s a fabulous show!
I’ve been looking up setlists for recent shows and it looks incredible!
Aww, happy birthday to Vero, she was a great perfumer and sweet lady. I got to meet her in Paris once, many years ago.
How lovely! She seemed like a true original, and I’m glad her work can live on still.
Exciting to see a live performance. Have a great time with your friend.
Great to find tickets that don’t cost an arm and a leg these days! Especially for an iconic artist.
Gloomy, rainy day out there. Ugh. But I’m in late-nineties EL Youth-Dew, so what do I care? The name hasn’t aged well (was it ever au courant? it must have been, surely), but the scent is spectacular.
One of my favourite perfumes ever. You smell absolutely fantastic!
Twinning with you today. I’m in the bath oil though, just a drop on each wrist. We smell fantastic!
That’s usually the way I wear YD too, the oil is fantastic.
I’m in Folavril, another Goutal favorite.
I have some Folavril left-maybe I’ll wear it this weekend. Was supposed to e a favourite of Madonna’s, too 🙂
What a beautiful picture, Robin!
Today I am wearing Margiela By the Fireplace and relaxing after finishing my first game localization testing job. It was interesting but also pretty hard – I needed to play a game, correct any linguistic issues in the text file grading them and also report any non-linguistic issues I found. I did linguistic quality assurance before, but not combined with game play.
The game is an interesting concept – it is designed to teach children about heatwaves and how to survive them.
That sounds like an interesting task and a useful game! What do you usually translate? (I seem to remember that you are a translator.)
Yes, I translate, edit, and review others’ translations. Initially, I worked mostly with automotive texts, but gradually, I’ve expanded into the IT field, including gaming. Over the last two months, I’ve translated sections of a car manual, terms for an automotive glossary, portions of a printer manual, descriptions for a game store, and, finally, this game localization task. I like the variety.
Wow! That information could save lives. Impressive!
This!
Hello.
Sotd is Lost Cherry.
Packing for my trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia tomorrow. Flight’s at 12:30 so my lunch will be subpar and overpriced airport food. Doesn’t matter since KL has loads of great eats. I will be there for 10 days! So excited.
Your trip sounds wonderful! Have a good time and eat lots of good stuff.
Wow – exciting. Have a great time!
Have a wonderful time!
I once got a fortune from a coolie that said “An adventure awaits in Kuala Lampur”. Maybe it was your fortune?
Have a great trip!
Bon voyage!
Oh, I would love to go to KL and Penang. I hope you have a wonderful time.
I love Penang.
Have a lovely trip!!
How exotic! Hope you have a wonderful time.
Have a fantastic trip.
Safe travels, this sounds very exciting. You seem familiar with KL.
Have a great vacation!
Safe travels, and have a great time!
Enjoy!
I am in one spritz of Maison Margiela Replica Bubble Bath for work today. PSA: The Jo Malone sample set of all four new spring limited releases for the Scented Mementos collection is on their US website. It is called the Brit Discovery Collection in a green box and free shipping. You have to type the words Brit Discovery into their search box on their site to find it right now, because I don’t think it’s officially launched yet it seems. I don’t have a store around me to try them, so I got one.
This is a link to cut and paste the Jo Malone sample set, if it works:
https://www.jomalone.com/product/26322/125979/gift-sets/brit-discovery-collection?size=4×1.5ml
Link to story about collection:
https://www.jomalone.com/our-stories/scented-mementos
… and I ordered earlier today! You get an enabler’s pin!
Thanks, I picked one up too.
Someone let us know what that collection is like when you get it, please!
Testing out EL Legacy Azuree. Maybe not full bottle worthy but interesting. Very dry and herbal.
Beautiful dry sunny day and I am letting the dew dry before I head out to do some more yard work.
Zephyr2, on the EL website they have travel sizes.
This one’s my favorite of the Legacy Collection. Very similar to vintage Aramis, (which is another favorite of mine,) but a little softer. You smell great!
Maybe I was partly anosmic to Legacy Azuree. It was rather quiet on me.
I’m color-coordinated today — wearing a purple and black striped top, black yoga pants and purple socks, my coffee mug is the same purple as my shirt, and SOTM is Armani Cuir Améthyste. Contractor coming over sometime today to talk paint! Someday I’ll have a laundry room again!
YAY for laundry rooms!
Indeed! 😆
Good luck today. Hope the end is in sight for your repairs
Well, late April for the last of the work. Can I see that far? Yes, if I squint hard and use my imagination. 😂
Hope you and the contractor picked a durable paint for the laundry room!
I’m wearing my sample of Mugler Suprafloral which I got with a bunch of other Mugler Les Exceptions samples when I bought some perfume in Wevelgem.
I like it well enough, but I remember only really falling for Oriental Express, and I never bothered to buy a bottle of that. Still, it’s good to wear something different.
It’s pretty, if not strikingly original
Supra Floral or Oriental Express?
I remember really liking all of them when I tried them in the shop, but being considerably less smitten after further attempts.
Oriental Express was my favorite too.
It’s still raining. Today I’m wearing Hiram Green Philtre. I still get a big snootful of clove in the opening, but it passes pretty quickly into carnation, and the drydown is lovely.
I’m in Vivacious today…did you ever try it? Curious about the difference, since they’re both carnation-forward.
I have not tried Vivacious, but I love carnation, so I’ll put it on the sample list. Thanks!
Philtre didn’t love me.
So I bought a full bottle of Vietnamese Coffee instead.
Wearing Clinique Happy today and gearing up for a long shift at work today. I will see if I have a decant of Fracas but if not, I will wear Narcotic V. I keep wanting to call Narcotic V Necrotic V for some reason.
Ew. 😉
If I were to wear it, it would be called Neurotic V. 🤣
😄
😀
🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha, brain autocorrect!
😃You guys made me smile.
As horrifying as it sounds, “Necrotic V” would be an excellent Halloween perfume.
Wearring VCA Bois d’Iris in anticipation of another work meeting. Looking forward to the long weekend.
Such a pretty scent. I ought to wear it again some time.
Happy Thursday, all!
Today I’m wearing Gentleman Givenchy Eau de Parfum. For a modern, mainstream fragrance marketed toward men, it’s pretty darn good.
The Givenchy for men were so good. My brother used to wear Monsieur de Givenchy back in the eighties.
I LOVE the original Monsieur de Givenchy – so classic and classy. It becomes a skin scent on me after a few minutes, but it’s wonderful while it lasts.😊
I agree about Givenchy making great scents for men. Their Vetyver from the Les Mythiques series was outstanding.
I’ve been hoping to be able to sniff Faux Semblant from their new, expensive line at some point. Have you tried it, Daniel? (or anyone?)
Thanks for the heads up, Ann – I haven’t heard of it. Sounds like I need to find a sample.😊
Company in the HTF quest, yes! I think Robin posted it here a while ago under the “new” heading.
Day 6 of incense in Donna Karan Black Cashmere.
Dark, cold, and rainy day. I went to a doctor’s appointment early in the morning and after I ran some errands. I am relaxing now watching TV, and I will head to church for Holy Thursday mass later this afternoon. Coffee and a falafel salad for lunch.
Happy Thursday! 🌻
Jealous of your lunch again!
Me too!😋
😊
😀
Love that one. A masterpiece. Really best for cold days here
A beauty sadly discontinued. I regret not getting a BUB.
We were errands twins today! 😉
Still in Prada Infusion d’Iris — just an insanely busy week, long days, high stress, and this one is easy to wear.
I hope you can have a relaxing time over the long we.
I should give that a re-sniff the next time I see it.
Rain here too. I’m commando because I’m going to the mall and want to try the new Lush scent Alina if they have it. The reviews are so love/hate on their website that I’m curious how bad it could be. If they don’t have it in stock I’ll spritz something else from a sample bottle.
Looking forward to your thoughts on Alina!
Any luck at your LUSH store?
Continuing my tuberose journey today in Carnal Flower. I have had this in some form since it was released but have only recently re-discovered it. What a beauty!
I might actually wear it tomorrow. It didn’t start out as my favourite tuberose but these days I think I like it best of all the tuberose fragrances I own. Have you ever tried the body oil? It’s maybe an even better way to experience the scent.
I haven’t but it’s probably amazing.
It’s Good Friday here so it will be a quiet day. I don’t know what the situation is in US but shops aren’t allowed to trade on Good Friday or Easter Sunday , the only exception being petrol stations, cafes, and the small corner dairy ( the place where you can buy milk and bread). Supermarkets, drugstores, shops are all closed.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/books/2023/08/25/mother-tongue-jenni-nuttall-etymology/
I’m reading an interesting book called Mother Tongue , a history of the words used to describe women, women’s anatomy etc. It’s fascinating.
Wearing CDG Daphne which has tuberose but feels a bit much for a pre-breakfast choice.
Language shapes our thinking which then shapes our language (I think).
The subject reminds me of a book written by a Dutch psychologist on the ideas and language concerning pregnancy through the ages. I don’t think it has been translated though.
There are only 2 days of no in-person shopping – Christmas Day and Easter Sunday.
Some businesses here in the States are closed on Thanksgiving as well as Easter and Christmas.
Good Friday is not really observed as a business holiday, though. Some government offices are closed. But mail will be delivered.
I had a weird perfume dream last night. I was on my way somewhere in a mall or an airport and glanced to my left and saw a bunch of glass fronted stores, one having a couple of perfume bottles displayed in the window. I recognized the shape and color of the bottle enough to think to my dream self, “ Oh, those are the perfumes I’ve been wanting try!” I was not close enough to read the label or know exactly which perfume it was, more just recognized shape and color of the bottle. Anyway, I was not strolling along but walking to some destination like I had an appointment and couldn’t dawdle or I would be late. As I walked by the store I made a mental note to come back and go in the store to check out those perfumes. And that’s the end of the dream…
As far as real life perfume, I cannot let Vero Kern’s birthday (thanks coumarin!) go by without celebrating her, so I’m in generous sprays of Onda VdE.
You smell fabulous! I’ve had a very similar dream, not remembering anything specific but the excitement.
Maybe perfume was standing in for something else?
Passage d’ Enfer today, just cause I love it.
I see Dyptique has a new fragrance out. It sounds kind of great, EDP only so am thinking about the hair mist. Eau Rihla.
What does anyone who has used a hair mist for a fragrance think about them?
I have never bought one.
PdE is great stuff!
You smell great, never tried hairmist.
I’ve wondered about hair mists, too, but yet to try them.
I was gifted the Ilio hair mist, and I love it. I spray my hair and also wrists. I can smell it all day.
oh, well thats good news.
I have the Eau Rose hair mist and I like it a lot! Don’t regret buying it even though it was way too expensive.
Have never tried a hair mist, so can’t help you there.
Passage d’Enfer is beautiful!
Sampling today, in Neandertal Us. I’m getting a strong rubber note, which doesn’t bother me in the least, along with smoke. I should be well into the drydown but I’m not yet getting many of the other notes.
This morning is a brief reprieve from the rain, which is nice. I’m trying to get a whole bunch of loose ends tied up w/r/t taxes in North America and potentially in Europe, and then Ockeghem Teen’s camp is doing 2.5 hours of parent presentations this afternoon, which seems like a LONG time for 11 kids to present. I’ve got to get on top of the Easter cooking today, too…have to get eggs and red cabbage for dye and a ham, etc.
Good luck with the cooking.
I took my ham out of the freezer this morning. It’s small so should thaw in time.
In anticipation of tomorrow’s day of Fracas, SotD is a tuberose more to my taste, Poison edt. Beautiful day here; I’m ramping up the gardening/yard work. Time to clean up and look forward to my usual Thursday night at our favorite Mexican restaurant. Off to read comments. I hope everyone with holiday preparations this week is ahead of the game!
Is your Poison EdT vintage? I know you love your vintage bottles!
Naw, I think it’s 2000 or so. It has the real-deal smell, but not the massive sillage. I do have an esprit de parfum with a bit more “umph.” Yes I love my vintage bottles 🙂
Day one of our four day Easter holiday – yay! It’s a cool morning, but the sun is shining, so it’s a nice day to look at from inside.
I’m yet to think of a perfume really suitable for the CP, all I know about Astrud is The Girl from Ipanema. That came out in the early 1960s, so I’ve been wearing perfumes I think of as classic. I might wear Jolie Madame post-shower to continue that theme.
That’s a perfectly valid way to approach the cp!
Lower temp 11C and windy showers, we have a name for them in French, giboulées de mars, so typical weather for March.
I chose YSL Y, an oldish not quite vintage bottle from Fragrancenet, maybe 15 years old, it smelled so perfect I was wondering why I bother to wear other things than chypres, tonight for something completely different, Angel Men on the box as this bottle is vintage, always loved that men version, so friendly and cuddly, it’s so dispiriting that L’Oreal completely ignores the men line, I wear the TM men line, Pure Malt and Pure Tonka.
I was just thinking yesterday that I wish I had more Chypre perfumes. Do you have a top 3?
I think Miss Dior, Rochas Femme and for a modern chypre AdP Profumo, my most worn chypre but for a top five also Jean-Louis Scherrer, Diorella and not far behind Liz Earle No 9, and Y, oh, and Quartz de Molyneux and the modern chypre Miss Dior le parfum and Halston is fantastic too, so many in fact.
Thanks Aurora! I have been thinking about re-purchasing Halston lately.
Mitsouko I have to be in the mood for.
I have a decant of Mitsouko and so far it doesn’t feel like me. I keep trying though.
I spotted my unopened bottle of Quartz Molyneux when I was sorting thru perfumes last weekend. Soon I think it will be a good time to bring that one out.
Oh yes, Quartz is perfect for spring, I recall that you had not opened it.
Opening Day of Baseball!
Go Tigers!
Sotd is Cafe Tuberosa. 🌞
Enjoy the baseball and I bet you smell great.
Thanks!
I just love the sounds of baseball. ( I usually listen on the radio)
Same here; and, Go Reds! You smell wonderful!
Woot woot! ⚾️ 🐯
We won! Woo-hoo!
I forgot all about that one! One of the few tubs that I liked. 🙂
I love it!
So how’d your team do?
They won!
w00t w00t w00t!
SOTD = Van Cleef & Arpels Rose Rouge
🩷! It’s a sweet, fruity, lightly spicy gourmand rose.

In other news, Peacock streaming has the more ads than Amazon Prime! In any case, I kept seeing ads for Little Caesar’s Crazy Puffs and I got enabled – food pin for 🦚? Anyway, I decided to place an order for delivery since the nearest Little Caesars was 10 miles away and with basically local roads, it would take me almost half an hour. I got three 4-packs at $3.99 each ($11.97 total). Add to it Sales Tax, Delivery (Door Dash), Small Order Fee, Service Fee and a $3 tip, the whole thing came out to a whopping $23.43, almost double the food cost! Was it worth it? I say YES because they were tasty and filling. Just imagine a cheese and/or pepperoni 🍕but without the unwieldy box. I ate 4 puffs last night, 2 for breakfast this morning and will eat 2 more for breakfast tomorrow. I froze the rest and will eat that for another meal!
I’ll rant about HSBC tomorrow…
You smell great, I have it too but forget to wear it. Enjoy the Crazy puffs.
Those VC&A bottles are so nice! They feel good in the hand, too.
I really enjoy Rose Rouge and like most of what Julien Rasquinet creates (the ones I can afford, at least).
Accidentally just posted on Wednesday’s poll, so now posting correctly:
Eris Parfums Mxxxxxxxxx today. OK, it’s only Mxxx. But it’s so good!
We’ve been watching Northern Exposure (didn’t ever see it the first time around) and really enjoying it. It’s so funky with lots of topics that can be discussed at a deeper level. Is anyone else watching?
You smell diviiiiiiiiiiine!
I am watching it! I did watch it the first time and adored it, and now puzzled…I like it ok but am not nearly as enthralled, and don’t like the same characters I used to like. I can’t decide if it has not aged well or if I have not aged well 🙂
A dreary, rainy day here, too. Instead of tuberose, I’ve gone tropical in PMC Ylang Ylang Nosy Be. I wore it partly to counteract today’s gloom, but I need to put on more. How much more? Depends on whether I want to sleep on my own tonight or not. 😁
I will try to send some sun your way! 🌞🌞🌞
Thank you, Jalapeno!
Productive day today, plus I did a bit of exploring. I discovered where one of the afternoon traffic jams is, ha! But that information may come in handy later. One never knows.
SOTD = back in Vera Wang Lovestruck. It is absurdly cheerful with that guava top note. Kind of a perfume distant relation to AS Saturday.
It’s always good to know the traffic situation and any alternative route.
It was a bit of a shock, because that area used to be rather undeveloped. Not anymore!
Glad you had a good day with *exploring.* Random thought: do you have high altitude baking requirements where you are? I remember the first time I “surprised” my sister’s family on a visit to Salt Lake City by baking some cookies according to my usual recipe!
I haven’t baked anything yet, but I do remember having to make altitude adjustments for baking when I last lived in Colorado.
I have been reminded that water boils at 202 degrees F where I am at by more than one source. So that means I use less time in the microwave to boil water than I did at sea level. It takes 3 minutes to boil 2 cups of water instead of 3 minutes, 30 seconds. Important info if I am having a Cup O’Noodles!
