It's Monday, International Waffle Day, and the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Birthdays today: Flannery O’Connor, Sarah Jessica Parker, Aretha Franklin. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am out of town, and commando to take a family member to a medical appointment. I'll be heading back home later today or tomorrow.
Reminder: 3/29 is Astrud Gilberto's birthday. Wear Robert Piguet Fracas (her favorite) or wear a fragrance that fits her music, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

International Waffle Day? Okay then! I’m not planning on eating any waffles, but I just sprayed on some Demeter Waffle Cone, now sadly discontinued but one of the first Demeters I ever bought, the EXACT smell of an ice-cream shop that bakes its own waffle cones — toasty grain, sugary vanilla, and hot butter, utterly delightful.
I guess they couldn’t keep waffle cone AND waffle? The line is so huge.
Day 3 of my incense week. Wearing Heeley Cardinal.
Happy Monday! 🌻
Oh, I love that scent! You smell great 🙂
Thank you, Carole! Cardinal is a great incense scent.
I just went back and read Robins’ review from 2006.
How did I miss this one being incense?
Sounds delicious.
I highly recommend trying it whenever you have a chance. It is one of my favorite incense scents.
Heeley Cardinal is wonderful!
It is! Once I finish my decant, I might think about getting a full bottle.
I really liked Cardinal too! Heeley has some great scents.
They do! My favorites from the line are Iris de Nuit, Sel Marin, and Menthe Fraiche.
I haven’t tried the mint one, but like Sel Marin and Iris de Nuit. Bubblegum Chic was fun, but I believe they changed the name to Jasmine OD. Blanc Poudre II is on my list to sample since it has rice powder and more vanilla than the original (which I could barely smell).
I have not sampled Blanc Poudre II yet, but I remember that I liked the original a lot. I love perfumes with a good rice note.
Bubblegum Chic did have that rather unfortunate name change. 🫤
I’m doing a week of Annick Goutal, and first up is Mandragore, from a decant. This is one of the few anise forward scents that I actually like.
My favourite house-I’m looking forward to reading your SOTD for the whole week 🙂
When I had a bottle I would keep it in the fridge for summer spritzing.
Hello.
Sotd is Amouage Guidance. This smells so good, it is rising up fast my to-buy list.
The weather is warming up unbelievably. It’s an unbearable 31.5C today. Broke some record I’m sure. This calls for ice cream!
Every weather calls for ice cream IMHO.
I’m wearing Aerin Mediterranean Honeysuckle Clementine eau de parfum. It’s still cold here, but I wanted to feel Springy.
Cold here too!
Hello all!
I got up super early to watch my friend’s dissertation defense over zoom; the time zones were not on my side. She did so well! I haven’t heard from her officially but I’m confident in her success.
I’m in Agar Ebene, which is lovely but very quiet on my skin.
Have a great day all!
You smell lovely — that is one of my favorite Hermessences. So unique.
It really is unique!
What was her thesis topic?
I did the Zoom thing with my nephew’s defense of his thesis! The Zoom session was effective because he was in a digital education curriculum.
It was about how cities deal with closures of military bases! It sounds interesting and I hope I can pick her brain about it next time she’s in town.
Congratulations to your nephew!
You’re a good friend Coumarin!
Aw, I try! She’s worked so hard on it, I’m glad she’s coming round the other side.
Congrats to your friend on getting thru her dissertation defense! So much work goes into that.
I cannot imagine how much work it takes, including working while researching!
Floris Night Scented Jasmine – pretty jasmine with green notes and violet leaf. Not a complicated or sophisticated scent, smells a bit like a functional product (think of a soap or body lotion in a luxury hotel), but it is lovely and cheerful.
I like a good smells like fancy soap scent. I bet you smell good!
I’m in L’eau d’Hiver. Repeating last week’s spring scents. We had snowflakes yesterday and rain this morning. This is spring in the Midwest.
I slept very well last night but strange strange dreams.
My gradtowngirl ended up getting a new laptop yesterday. Long story short, a repair would have cost almost as much as new with no guarantee to recover everything off the hardrive/ risk losing it all. It was a no brainer and all her stuff was transferred or in the cloud and she was up and running with the new one in a matter of minutes. Technology can be amazing. All’s well that ends well I guess. Especially when mom’s paying.😉😂
I love your SOTD, too, and we get the same sort of spring in Northeastern NS.
So glad the information could be retrieved – nice if the bill isn’t too too much.
Me too! Happily, it is deifinitely Hiver over here.
Glad to hear gradtowngirl’s data was recoverable. It seems that computers don’t last nearly as long as they used to.
Winter showed up here, too.
Money well spent, for sure.
Guerlain SDV from a manufacturer’s spray sample. Still raining…geez! 🌧️
Did you manage to find a good spot to park for the night?
You’re smelling great!
They won’t let me park at the hospital so I was going to cancel my contract but ran into one of the security guards here when I went out on lunch to take the dog out. He is in a van and gave me a couple of locations outside of city limits, so I’ll try that. It’s only for 5 weeks, so I’ll give it a whirl unless the police come knocking. If that happens I’ll have to cancel and leave, so we shall see. Never had a problem like this until my last two contracts. Maybe another sign from the universe it’s time to be done with this chapter in my work life. Thanks for asking. 🙂
Yikes, how stressful! At least you found a helpful man with some suggestions, I hope they work out.
Gosh, good luck Deva.
SOTM is Feu Secret because someone here mentioned incense scents over the weekend. It feels like an old friend. Will be commando after a shower for a Pilates session later on. And it looks like my impulse buy of a Fzotic soap will arrive in today’s mail — yay!
Feu Secret is definitely a friendly fragrance😊
Mine arrived today! I may use it as the current soap I have is on its last sliver.
Does it smell delicious?
Starting off the week with a bang in Fracas and continuing with tuberose fragrances.
Yay Fracas!
Last evening was the Fumerie swap. I took Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit, Bois 1920 Classic, Tauer Golestan, Hermes Eau de Merveilles, and Mancera Wild Cherry. Swapped all except Ginger Biscuit, and I was surprised it didn’t go. Surprisingly the Wild Cherry was the first one to be grabbed! 4 oz of loud cherry in a tacky gold pleather bag.
I came home with 4160 Tuesdays Tyger, Tyger; Jean Desprez Revolution a Versaille; PdE Cuir Ottoman, and Guerlain Insolence, my first violet scent. It was more organized than the early swaps were, and people were limited to bringing only 5 scents. Still, with 25 participants there was plenty of choice and no duplicate bottles. Today I’m wearing Revolution a Versaille.
Yes, it’s still raining here, and I will go to the gym today as I renewed my membership last month and haven’t gone yet.
I finished Kristen Hannah’s The Women yesterday. It made me cry, mostly out of frustration at how military women were, and still are, treated as if their contributions aren’t important.
pretty much.
I am on CD no 3.
Hate to say it, but not just military women….the more I learn the clearer it becomes…who runs the world, girls!
I think that goes for all women, not just military women.
On fragrance youtube Mancera is pretty popular and Ginger Biscuit got a bad rap for its longevity. ( which fragrance youtube find very important) maybe the swappers listen to a lot of ” influencers”
Could be, I was the oldest person there!
Wow, you got some good ones. I’m envious because it sounds so fun. I wonder though why you swapped the Eau des Merveilles? Don’t you like it?
I bought it very early in my perfume explorations and later discovered I don’t really like things with amber-heavy notes. I hadn’t worn it in years.
What is your SOTD like?
Oh, how fun! You’re lucky to be local to Fumerie. Was there a specific swap process, or you all just show up with your bottles and work it out amongst yourselves? Kind of Fumerie to organize and host!
Ah, very nice. You got some good ones, foxbins.
I’m in Guerlain Cologne Imperial, because I’m in close contact with a lot of people today. One provincial office I have to go into has a ton of signs- No scents is good sense. I object on every level-including the use of English lol. I assume they don’t mean me 🙂
Yeah, one end of my floor at work used to have huge signs up about no scent. But…now there aren’t many people in the office and no one has assigned desks, so I can get away with whatever I want when I go in! 🙂
Sounds like nonscents to me
good one, Kanuka!
🤣🤣🤣
Ha! Agree.
Excellent.
Always seems like a futile effort to ban scents when almost any bath/hand/cleaning liquid is scented
Lyric for me today, just because.
I just got an email notifying me that I get 3 1-month gift subscriptions to Luca Turin’s new Substack for being a subscriber. If anyone’s interested in giving it a try, send me a message at L sl O u FF m in the land of looking out. Subscribers get access to his reviews.
I’m curious, how are you finding his substack writing so far?
I’ve been liking it. It’s very much him — direct, to the point, and he doesn’t have a lot of tolerance for the crap, but he’ll celebrate the achievements. His reviews, which are what you have to pay for, are to the point — a bit longer than in the guides, but not much, so very readable.
Dark mornings now and I wake up about three hours before dawn so lots of time to watch the moon. We’re still in summer time but I think the clocks change in two weeks so the mornings will be a bit lighter. It was windy yesterday and I found myself in a swirl of autumn leaves as I left the supermarket. Wearing Chypre Mousse for a nice peaceful start to the day.
Kanuka I don’t think I have ever asked why you get up so early? If that’s not too personal a question, ignore me if you like, I am just curious, being generally an anti-morning person.
I’ll have to have a think about the CP, but meanwhile 24 Faubourg is never wrong 🙂
🙂
Just in from getting fresh Botox. My favorite kind of appointment.
Day three for Vietnamese Coffee. Thought I would test the tea fragrance, but this one is calling my name.
Emailed the recruiting team for the executive fellowship role feedback/ update.
My final interview was a week ago and they say they expect the agency to respond in three business days.
No response yet, although no response is a response.
I put away my heater I keep by my desk a few days ago and wow it’s really chilly here in LA, pulled it back out again.
I’ve still got my fingers crossed for you. 🤞🏼
thank you Deva.
Maybe its a chapter close here, also.
I’ll wear Fracas on Friday, and the rest of the week I’ll wear perfumes that haven’t been worn in over a year. I’m starting off with Black Perfecto EDP, the one that has “Eau Florale” at the end of the name. I bought a travel spray unsniffed early last year from FragranceNet and my initial thought when I’d tried it was I’d probably end up swapping it away. Now after trying it again (more than a year later), I still feel that way. It’s nice but not something I need.
I’m in for a very busy week. Tonight we’re going out to dinner with my cousin who is visiting, plus my aunt and uncle. Tomorrow and Thursday we’re going to concerts! I’ve taken Friday off and plan to start working late Wed morning so I can sleep in a bit. We usually do nothing during the weeknights so we’ll see how this all goes haha.
I need to get that one out, too. I’m a LPRN BP fan.
Pretty sure that I will have some perfume bottles needing new homes as I unpack The Perfume Stash.
Feeling the Spring today. In Chloe Vanilla Panifolia, which seems like a green vanilla to me. I gave my nose some points because at least two Fragrantica reviewers said they smelled green, though the listed notes seem different. I think what I’m smelling as green may be what is intended to be woody notes via isoeugenol. I have yet to be able to identify iso with confidence, though.
I can only confidently identify ambroxan.
From a mile away!😬
IIRC, Aurora had mentioned your SOTD recently.
I saw some reviews that said this was such a lovely fragrance, so I had intense FOMO since I believe it’s discontinued? If so, it’s probably one I can now safely remove from my “holy grail” search based on comments here.
Hello! Chanel 1957 today. I wore Bois Farine (sample from tulipani) over the weekend because I was craving almonds. My Luckyscent order arrived as well! Enjoying my new almond scented hand soap ^^
Have you ever tried L’Occitane’s Almond Shower Oil? Smells great!
Oh yes!! I haven’t had a bottle in awhile..how could I forget about that gem
Too many scented lovely things? 😉
Enjoy Bois Farine! I miss when L’Artisan would make quirkier scents like this.
Me too!
Friday will be easy and the rest of the week I will just wear what I feel like.
Today’s choice is Belles Rives. A gorgeous iris.
Gorgeous iris is always good, right?
SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio Equestrian
Love it with apple, woody resins and a little bit of leather. I wore it because deva wore it a few days ago! Deva, last I saw Laurie was enjoying her dog, but that was over a year ago.

I just came back from a Trader Joe’s run and this food should last me a good while. I have other foods of course but my freezer was looking kinda emptyish… My find of the day is a box of organic couscous at $1.79 each, no tax. I had been haunting the couscous section at Wegmans to no avail so ended up buying 2 boxes from Whole Foods. Anyway, I am all set for couscous! The previous time I went I got the chicken pot pie calypso recommended; it tasted great and I had it for 2 meals. Any TJ recommendations?
TJ’s used to have some freeze dried fruit which was some of the best I’ve tasted. Especially the raspberries and strawberries.
But it’s been several years since I’ve been to Trader Joe’s.
I have to reintroduce fruits to my diet. I did two weeks ago and then I got sick of 🍓.
I have yet to go to my local TJ.
Hopefully it is not because of cost because you may be surprised at some of the pricing.
I don’t even know the cost. It’s just that it always seems super busy and it has minimal parking.
Parking is terrible at every Trader Joe’s that I have been to.
There are 2 within 12 miles of me and I’ve stopped going to one of them because of parking.
I’m glad you liked the pot pie, and yes, it’s big.
More TJ recommendations: frozen food Korean scallion pancakes; Indian meals especially veg korma; frozen Chinese orange chicken–delicious!–you must either cook it in a frying pan or oven but it’s worth it; excellent TJ brie cheese; and they often have big beautiful white cauliflower heads for only about $2.00. Not to mention nice buys on wine, if you drink it–and their wine person is always eager to offer recommendations on, e.g., a nice New Zealand Sauvignon blanc or a good dry rose.
Great recommendations! I saw the orange chicken but didn’t get it – will do so next time.
My TJ’s does not have wine on offer but there is one I believe further south.
Oh thanks for the Laurie update! I think of her much more than anyone would imagine. I hope she continues to enjoy her doggo! 🐶❤️
Yesterday was indeed a rainy day that shifted into snow and blizzard conditions in the evening. After all was said and done, I ended up with about 2.5 inches of the white stuff. Most of it is gone now, even though temperatures have been right around the freezing mark this afternoon.
SOTD = Vera Wang Lovestruck EdP. This would be my budget suggestion for Delta of Venus. The two perfumes are siblings, but not twins. Delta of Venus has more projection while Lovestruck is a skin scent on me.
I almost blind bought Lovestruck a few times. I always liked the original Vera Wang.
I tried it back when it came out, and have a rollerball. I wanted a 30mL bottle, but that never happened. The guava note is pretty much front and center.
Oy! What a turn of weather events!
And it was exactly what the local meteorologists predicted would happen.
By the end of the week, temps should be back in the upper 60’s and sunny. Welcome to March in Colorado!
Tired tonight at work and am looking forward to a day off tomorrow. I have a lot of housework to do.
I’m wearing V&R Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid for the heck of it.
I think I have a mini of FB Ruby Orchid in The Perfume Stash. I reorganized a bunch of perfume stuff over the weekend, and started grouping my full bottles together by house.
Oh oh, go to TJ’s tomorrow! Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the best time to go.
I wore Monoscent G today. Really low key but I did get reminders of it all day. Really similar to Kiehl’s Musk. Boosted my mood and that is what I needed.
Technically on vacation now but I had so many leftover work tasks to do that I decided to bunch most of them up and kill one whole day, topping it off with 2 hour meeting. Ugh! There are a a few straggler tasks left I will have to work in
Wow, that is very ugh for the first day of vacation!
I enjoyed my gluttonous birthday weekend. I had a lovely sushi dinner and many yummy baked treats including tiramisu and my favorite passion fruit berry cake. Thanks for all the birthday wishes last week!
Back to the grind this week, although my coworkers did take me out to lunch today. I’m commando but plan on squeezing in many cooler-weather scents this week before it gets too warm to wear them.
All the foods you ate sound yummy! Happy belated birthday!
Sounds like you had an awesome birthday weekend!
Happy belated birthday! 🎂
Happy belated birthday!
Happy belated birthday! All your food choices sound delicious.
Chiming in with Reglisse Noire as my sotd. It’s such a fun fragrance; glad I pulled this out today.
Long work day again. Commando until evening, now I’m doing a side by side of the new White Linen Legacy and the current (I assume) OG White Linen formulation.
Legacy: In the background there’s a hint of the Dread Wood Note. Just a hint. But it’s there, wouldn’t buy it. A Fragrantica commenter observed the same thing and hazarded Ambroxan. Maybe. I still need to confirm that’s what I hate. Anyway, it’s more muted than the current OG formula, as expected.
Non-legacy: Much stronger, sharper, more “vintage” vibes, aldehydes and citrus top notes more prominent.
I guess I can see the relationship between these two. Don’t care for either of them, though I understand the current WL formula is not a great reflection of its past (at least from what I’ve read, never sampled before).
I don’t think this Legacy collection will still be with us in 5 years.
