It's Monday again, and the Monday after Daylight Savings to boot. Also, the 4th anniversary of the Covid pandemic, and there are 8 more days of winter to go. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm determined to take full points this week since I took none last week. I'm starting off with Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Banane.
Reminder: 3/15 will be Vanilla Friday...wear your bestest vanilla for spring (or fall, if you're in the southern hemisphere.) (This is a repeat from 2018, when we did it in January.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Cold, gray, and very windy day. I am keeping myself warm and cozy in Shalimar EdT for the CP.
I saw the first crocuses and daffodils in full bloom on my way to work early this morning. Spring is in the air! 🌻🌷🪻🌹
Coffee and a slice of gingerbread cake.
Happy Monday!
I have Sun here, I will send some your way!🌞
Your sun is almost here! It is partly sunny right now! 🌞
My daffodils are blooming! But it is cold here…
It is also very cold and super windy here today. Looking forward to temps in mid 60s for the rest of the week!
Envious of your crocuses and daffodils! No Spring flowers here yet.
I will be sending the Sun off on another trip later on this week. Supposedly there is snow in the forecast from Wednesday thru Friday.
I will send you some warm temperatures. We will be in the 60s with partly sunny skies and also rain on Thursday and Friday. It is still windy cold outside. I am glad I didn’t work outside today.
This is the time of year where one can see wild swings in temperatures from day to day in Colorado. It was 70 here yesterday.
Vanilla? All week? Don’t mind if I do! And to narrow it down even further, I’m only wearing things named “vanilla” or some variation thereof. Today it’s CSP Vanille Cannelle, a little too abrasive at the top, but with a spicy, creamy vanilla drydown.
Oh, that’s harder, I will not manage to have vanilla in the name all week I don’t think. But we are cousins today 🙂
I’m doing what you’re doing with wearing a perfume with vanilla or thereabouts in the name!
Hello.
Sotd is La Vie Est Belle Iris Absolu. Still very much like the original but just a little richer and more elegant.
Love vanilla and this week should be fun!
Plus points for today 🙂
You smell lovely, I have this one too, it’s Lillyjo who put it on my radar.
Well I won’t be doing the cp, since vanilla is my least favorite note, and I avoid vanilla as much as possible. I will be doing a full week of Nicolai fragrances, since I pulled my bag of Nicolai decants for this week. First up is Eau d”Ete.
Ugh then do skip it! You smell great today anyway.
You probably won’t be alone as I am not much of a vanilla person either. Of course, I do have a few fragrances that happen to have it as a note, but if it is not prominent, I can take it😉
Good mornin, all!
The week starts with Kenzo Jungle Homme – I love it, and wish it lasted longer on my skin.
Hosted an Oscar viewing party last night, which was a good way for me to enjoy the event – I was too busy to pay very close attention to the broadcast and all the commercials. (The only real gripe I had was the In Memoriam segment, which focused more on the singers and dancers than the departed.) My favorite film of the year, “Anatomy of a Fall,” won Best Original Screenplay, which it richly deserved. As much as I admire (winner) Emma Stone, I haven’t seen a performance as brilliant as Sandra Hüller’s in a very long time.
I agree, the dancers were too distracting from an important segment. And a lot of more famous names were just jumbled together in the end (they all deserve an on screen picture, but it’s only a 3.5 hour show).
Ryan Gosling’s performance was HILARIOUS though. What a way to infuse energy into a (let’s face it) somewhat tedious telecast.
I am glad your favorite film won. I’ve heard a lot about it, I’ll have to check it out.
I really loved Anatomy of a Fall, one of the best movies i watched lately!!
Yeah, I thought it was profoundly moving – the acting and the script were extraordinary. Best movie I’ve seen in a long time.
Anatomy of a Fall was such a twisty movie, and I loved the switches in languages. Apparently the dog in it is up for a dog Oscar award. Zone of Interest was an absolutely chilling performance from Huller. She’s great ( Toni Erdmann, makes you wince).
Haven’t yet seen “Zone of Interest,” but it’s on my list – I hear it’s really good.
I typically use the Oscars to help me plan movie choices for streaming in the coming year. “Anatomy of a Fall” sounds intriguing.
NST reviews on movies and books have guided me to some gems I would have missed otherwise.
It was always an aspiration when I was in my 20’s to have an Oscar viewing party but life took other directions and I think I passed my window for that.
I am going for full vanilla points as well.
Today I finished my sample of Guerlain Shalimar Souffle de Parfum. This is actually good for spring and summer – light, airy, almost aquatic vanilla. Not on my favorite vanilla list, but I am enjoying it today.
We will rack ’em up this week Glannys!
Oooh! I will wear that tomorrow, you smell great !!!
I received my bottle as a gift years ago during a perfume event with Sylvaine Delacourte in Montreal. These were the days!!
I miss our Guerlain boutique, it was so wonderful.
Later this week it is going to cool down so I may have to take my Shalimar MI back out and wear it. At least then I can participate in the vanilla theme.
Today it’s cold and ridiculously windy (like Perfume Lover’s weather), so I am going to step out tonite with Coco Mademoiselle and some red lippy. Need some cheer? Reach for Chanel.
Yesterday I was leaving the house and a giant flock of cedar waxwings were hanging out in a nearby tree and kept swooping in to grab the leftover berries on our berry bush next to our stoop. There were maybe 20 of them, and they didn’t seem too fazed (or were too hungry to care about) by the strange human staring at them. They must’ve been hungry from flying up all this way from their winter quarters. I mean, they were attacking that berry bush. Glad I could feed ’em. And then later on at work we were deluged with lunch guests. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar but can’t help but wonder….
They are such cool birds and I love watching them in frenzy berry eating mode!
Cedar waxwings are pretty, I love to watch them.
I love cedar waxwings and I love that you could think about them during your lunch rush!
Today for vanilla week I am wearing Shalimar Mexique. I saw none of the movies nominated for Academy Awards this year so I didn’t watch much of the show. I guess I will have to see “Oppenheimer” but probably not until it shows up on a streaming service I have.
Don’t feel bad. I haven’t seen any of them either. In fact, I could not even tell you the last time I went to a movie theater. I am guessing about 15 years ago.
I haven’t been in a movie theatre since 2016 or 2017. I remember being shocked at the ticket prices back then.
I went for soothing comfort this morning in Ancient Resins body oil. We’re meeting with the contractors this afternoon to see if the latest info from our insurance people is adequate, and maybe, just maybe, our water damage repairs will be able to recommence soon. All fingers and toes crossed.
Good luck to you!! You smell great!
Thanks!
Good luck to you! What a pain.
Good luck! 🍀
Good luck! Hope they have everything they need.
Fingers and paws crossed here!
I’m twinning with Robin in CSP Vanilla Banane, at least until I get in the shower, then who knows?
I didn’t see the Academy Awards last night but did note some winners on YouTube. I haven’t been to a legit movie theater in years. I can’t even imaging the cost of a movie, popcorn, and a soda these days. If and when they stream for free, I will watch but pretty sure by them I will have forgotten. I’m so glad Cillian Murphy won best actor! I’ve been watching him for years, way before Peaky Blinders, and the man is just a Class Act all the way- dedicating his Oscar to the “peacekeepers.” Plus, he’s from Cork, so there’s that! 🙂
Happy Monday!
Hey twin! I did not see a single movie last year, and possibly not the year before either! In fact cannot remember the last time I was in a movie theater but it was probably pre-covid.
One of these days maybe I will watch Oppenheimer on streaming, who knows.
I did go see Oppenheimer on the day it opened, which meant that the Megaplex where I went was also premiering “Barbie” and the audience was full of women and girls wearing pink. It was just such a fun event that I’m glad I did it. Oppenheimer is meant in part to be seen on the big screen with the right sound equipment and I wanted to get the full experience. It was really MUCH TOO LOUD and there were a lot of such complaints when it came out. Still, some of the visuals were pretty incredible to see that way. And yes, Cillian Murphy is a fantastic actor and amazing in that role. I had actually seen him in 28 Days Later when it came out, and thought he was good there, but I had no recognition that it was the same actor until I read about him later.
CP points should be easy for me this week. I seem to have lots of fragrances with vanilla as one of the main players. Wearing Encens Suave this morning—a really great blend of incense and vanilla (also coffee but I don’t get much of that—a bit more would have been lovely).
You smell great! Love that one.
I am wearing Nishane Ani, one of my favourite vanillas.
Did you all see the Osmotheque exhibit at Excsense Italy about the history of perfume?
They recreated some of the old perfumes for this exhibit. I wish I was there to see and smell, it looked amazing!!
Have a great week!
We really need a group tour of the Osmotheque 🙂
I went to Aire, a bath house for some r & r
I love vanilla. I mostly think of Shera as the vanilla queen on NST.
Will report back with my SOTD.
That sounds lovely!
It’s cold and dark but a good view of Scorpius (Manaia ki te Rangi ) this morning. In Maori legend this was the fish hook that was used to catch the North Island of NZ and it’s easy to spot in the sky down here. Wearing Daim Blond, a good autumn scent, and nicely introspective without being gloomy.
You smell wonderful. I bet the night sky is stunning in NZ with so little light pollution. I look forward to my trip to the Gaspé peninsula every year to enjoy the dark starlit skies.
I have a ton of vanilla but didn’t read before selecting my sotd, which is LPRN Absolue over cherry almond lotion. Will definitely be on CP for the rest of the week.
Betcha anything the LPRN has vanilla even if it isn’t a listed note.
I took out all my spring/summer perfumes yesterday since it is going to be in the 60’s the first part of this week. It may be a little premature, but I can always dig out my others if I need to. Anyway, today I chose Rose Elixir by Montale. It says in Fragrantica that there is vanilla, but I don’t smell it. I think it smells almost identical to the OG Miss Dior Cherie. I miss that one, so it is a good fit for me.
Sometimes I smell vanilla in the dry down, although not Rose Elixir by Montale since I haven’t sniffed that one. Montale bottles scare me.
Really? I love them and have been wanting one for years. I just can’t find a scent that really hits me hard.
They are like stormtroopers … I shudder 😱
It’s the little dangle thing that gets me. I love and I’m not ashamed. 🤣
Seriously??? They aren’t scary, but they are weird. I can’t say I really like them either as they are in a tin like container, and you really can’t tell how much is in there as they are very lightweight.
I don’t mind the Montale bottles. When we were young kids, my sister had Rive Gauche so I like a tin atomizer; it had a good sprayer!
Commando today because things just feel too tough for fragrance. My son came down with a cold over the weekend and if I catch it, they’ll cancel my surgery, and the incredibly elaborate spinning-plates-construction support network I’ve built and rebuilt and re-rebuilt in order to get through this as a single mother in a rural area who won’t be able to drive for a month will come smash crashing down. I’m beyond exhausted, body and spirits.
Oh dear, that sounds precarious. How long till the surgery?
Hang in there, it will sort itself out, somehow.
Hope you don’t catch that cold.
Good luck with staying well, Isabella. I hope all of your plans will stay in place!
Fingers crossed for you!
Sending you strength Isabella.
Oy! Thinking of you and hope all things work out!
Hugs (from a safe distance)! Hope you dodge that cold.
Oh gracious, Isabella. Wishing for you that it all works out.
Keeping my fingers crossed that you dodge that cold and your elaborate logistical planning unfolds like a graceful ballet
I have plenty of vanilla options for this CP, which is why I’m starting off this week in L ‘Esprit Libre which has no vanilla at all.
I want to thank everyone for their well wishes! I believe we were moderately successful, but it remains tricky.
Marriages especially long lasting ones can be complicated and growing old is not at all easy.
Moderately successful is better than some alternatives. Hope things continue in the direction you feel best serves them.
Thanks Deva, it could have been a whole lot worse.
At least you were together and ended up being at least moderately successful.
I recently read an article in the New York Times about having the conversation. Note: usual rules apply about being able to read this.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/08/well/live/end-of-life-planning.html
Thank you!!
“Moderately successful” sounds like there’s room for hope with the situation. 🤞
Well, good. Sounds like it went as well as you could expect. Hope there continues to be movement in the right direction.
I’ve not been keen on too much vanilla in a perfume, and still don’t like vanillas that are too sweet, but it seems my tastes have changed a bit over the years and I’m enjoying things that I’m sure I wouldn’t have in the past.
I have limited choices for the next couple of days, but I had already planned to wear Tobacco Vanille before I saw the CP.
Then you already have your points, skip the rest of it if you like 🙂
Since a couple people mentioned Shalimar, I am in Shalimar edp as well.
I am going to wear Shalimar one time this week!
Apple and yogurt smoothie
Started with an oil on my hands, I think a dupe but not sure what was the inspiration, I couldn’t tell, possibly has vanilla and almost thunked, I want to re-purpose the travel spray. Then I spent the day in Hermès Rose Amazone and tonight it’s A*Men Pure Malt.
I have never repurposed a perfume container. How do you make it pristine clean?
Soaking in alcohol.
I’m in 4160 Tuesdays New York 1955. There is vanilla in the base, so I’ll claim partial points today.
Take all the points you like, we have no rules!
Dang, forgot vanilla.
Had one interview already this morning and two more to go today.
SOTD is Shanghai Lily. Love this one so.
Started yesterday with spilling a full mug of coffee all over my desk.
Laptop, papers all wet.
Jumped into save mode.
The rest of the day went the same.
GRRRRRRR
Wish me luck!
Final Fellowship interview next Monday.
🍀
Sending you good luck wishes! 🤞🏼☘️
Big lucky wishes coming your way!
Good luck on your upcoming interview!
Good luck! 🍀
Here’s hoping for job success! Oy, that coffee spill!
oye!!
Good luck on the fellowship interviews, Apsara, and stay unflappable! You have a lot on your mind.
Ack! on that coffee spill! 😖
Best of luck with all those interviews! 🍀🍀🍀🌈
Good luck!
Luck and more luck to you!
🍀🍀🍀
Today I’m back in Coty L’Origan, but in a different, and later, incarnation. It’s “Mist,” and judging from the bottle and its typeface, I would guess from the 50’s. It’s misty, all right, and a lot more spicy than the older version I have, which I believe is an extrait. I will either go back to the previous version or something else entirely later on. This one is definitely getting voted off the island.
I managed to miss the Oscars last night. I was so focused on beginning my Great Perfume Sweep that I forgot all about it. I think I saw 1.5 movies on the list. Loved Oppenheimer, but I could only make it halfway through Killers of the Blossom Moon. One good thing about streaming – you don’t have to worry about disturbing anyone when you walk out, lol!
Do you mean Killers of the Flower Moon? Just curious why you only watched half of it. I haven’t seen any of them, and maybe won’t, but like to hear why someone didn’t like a movie.
Oh yeah, got the name wrong. Well, for a movie to be that long, it’s got to hold my attention, and this one didn’t. I think Scorsese was being self-indulgent with his drawn-out scenes between DeNiro and DiCaprio. 🥱
Gotcha!
I’m not a huge vanilla fan, but have been picking up a couple more vanilla-forward bottles in recent years. Today is Lush Turmeric Latte, for a cold, sad, rainy Monday.
This was probably the first year in a few that I’ve seen more than one or two of the movies in contention. I loved “Past Lives”, and I thought “Barbie” was fun. (I’m iffier on “Maestro”.) Mr. Ockeghem keeps making noise about watching “Oppenheimer”, so we’ll get there someday, probably. I was glad to see “The Boy and the Heron” win for animation. However, what is it with the Oscars starting at 4 p.m.? Maybe it was the lost hour yesterday, but it felt so early.
I loved Past Lives, too!
You smell so good.
Past Lives is so good. Mr. Vee and I watched it weeks ago and we are still actively talking about it (usually we just talk about them for only a day or two)
Adding my love for Past Lives here too! It was kinda perfect.
In Nez 1+1 Ambre à Levres for the lipstick vibe and some vanilla for the cp💄
Perfect then!
SOTD = Tauerville Vanilla Flash
So good! Vanilla! This week, I’ll be wearing perfumes with vanilla and vanilla-esque names.

Do we have any dream interpreters here? On Friday night, my dream consisted of visiting a friend’s house, bigger than her real one, but it has a post office inside, a room with a bigger than king-sized bed and a long rectangular skinny swimming pool with dirty pond-green water. Thoughts?
Wish I could figure out some of the weird dreams that I’ve been having lately!
So, no help with your scenario. Sorry.
No worries. I mentioned the dream to the friend and she was just as interested in the interpretation. I may still have my Dream book although methinks a post office inside the house may not be common.
Hmm… interesting. I would say that you suspect not everything appears as it seems in her life.
Also you smell great!
You may be right!
For the CP, L by Lolita Lempicka. That’s the one in the sea-treasure bottle. Sadly, my partial bottle is starting to turn, but it does still have the nice dry down. Looking forward to everyone’s choices! In other news, our college town is on Spring break, and it has been as quiet as a Sunday afternoon all day!
Such a pity, I will check my bottle too. Enjoy the calmness.
Yay for quiet!
I remember hearing several years ago that L by Lolita Lempicka had a tendency to turn.
I’m totally out of compliance today in vintage Jolie Madame, because I decanted some for a swap and had to spray myself silly as well. Hello old friend, it’s been way too long. You are a beauty from a bygone age. Violets and leather folded seamlessly into a grand dame of a perfume, who would have thunk that would fly, and how did Balmain do it?
One of my absolute favourites, you smell fabulous.
Ah thank you Hera. And now I shall swan off to the dog park, poop bags in hand. Ah Jolie Madame, you deserve better but there are no dress balls on my horizon, only the rubber chew ones.
😄 You and me both.
Your description of Jolie Madame sounds wonderful.
It’s really unusual, Jalapeno, and I can’t think of current frags that mix leather and violets like that. The leather is not harsh, it’s like a polished well-worn saddle. The violets are not powdery or sweet or particularly green, just on the nose (heh) garden violet. I don’t really get anything else besides those two notes but perhaps a light chypre base, maybe some oakmoss?
I’ve been wearing this one quite a bit lately. Your descriptions are spot-on! It’s like wearing velvet.
I dunno, it seems like a baller flex to wear something that grand to the dog park 😎
I’m not familiar with it, but from your description no doubt you smell amazing!
Vanilla! Victoria’s Secret Garden Vanilla. The OG.
It smells exactly like Guerlain’s Spiriteuse Double Vanille.
I could do this CP all year! Robin-break out the Whiff of Wafflecone. It’ll count!
VS had some great fragrance back in the day.
Ah, good call! I might layer that with Vanilj too.
My first vanilla perfume of the week is Seven Veils from Byredo, sadly discontinued. I think it’s a good spring vanilla because one of its primary notes is carrot seed. 😃 I have one more wearing left of this decant, but I did recently buy a couple samples off eBay. I hate that with Byredo’s huge lineup they got rid of this one.
The best one’s seem to always get discontinued.
Too true.
Posting late, even for me! I’m still dragging from the time change.
Pretty sure I have some vanilla scents amongst all the samples, decants and full bottles. Time to go exploring.
BTW, it seems The Body Shop has closed down all of its US stores as of March 4. Wonder if that means ULTA won’t be carrying their products anymore?
SOTD = commando, except for a Chai Tea lotion on my shins. Yep, I thunked the Boyfriend Body Creme over the weekend! It smelled wonderful right to the very end.
I was in Ulta yesterday. TBS section had been way marked down and was almost empty.
Last I heard, TBS had reformulated their body butters a year or two ago, and they weren’t as good as they previously had been.
So it goes.
Oh my gosh that will be so many stores! Seems like every other mall has a TBS.
I miss their 90s products — the jewel-toned glycerin bar soaps, kiwi lip balm, banana conditioner, and the viennese chalk face wash. I teared up in the store when they told me it was discontinued. It was the only thing that seems to help my teenage acne!
Yes Vee!!! 1990s Body Shop products were sooo good. I’m very sad to hear that they are closing their shops, though TBH I haven’t been inside one for years. I still have some of their wonderful perfume oils. I think they have quite a cult following.
As for Jolie Madame at the dog park, no one would notice it except the dogs themselves, I’m afraid.
I saw that … I had no clue until I saw the store shuttered. That said, I enjoyed perusing the place and buying bits. I may have told this story before: A while back before my perfumista days, I bought strawberry oil thinking that it would be hypo-allergenic. It wasn’t.
The 4th anniversary of the pandemic and it seems like it’s been a lifetime. I hold my pre-pandemic memories very dear.
I wore Fenty edp today and received a perfume compliment ( from a coworker who said ” your perfume smells good”)
I also realized that I am missing my bottle of Oud Bouquet. I know it’s here somewhere, but where?
Today is also the 13th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
I can easily wear versions of vanilla all week.
Wearing Commodity Gold which to me is like a dry piece of wood with a dab of vanilla.
It was super sunny today after a mostly gray weekend, so I leaned into it and tried a sample of TDC Bergamote. It reminded me a lot of the AA Bergamote Calabria, but less sweet and calmer, somehow. Like if the TDC was a bergamote sun tea and the AABC was a bergamote seltzer
